A lot on the list that will impact the tournament but scanning for where any potential Cornell grad transfers ended up, I saw that Ben Shvartzman is at the University of Chicago! Wow. Congrats to him on finding his way to a lineup and a school where not a single person on the Cornell forum can say something smug about.

I can't stand the esthetics of RAF - it tries to package freestyle like MMA or WWE and it makes it impossible for me to watch anything but the matches after the fact. I went to the Philly event and the heat from the intro-fire blasts hit the entire gym like a wave. Plus a lot of trying to make fetch happen with ex-MMA names like Urijah Faber with some wrestling background. There's some audience for it, obviously, but it's pretty tedious outside of the matches themselves.

Greg was a small 125 and he was usually injured to boot. He kept getting hurt or sick in practice and was never able to train and bulk up in tandem. damn shame in light of what could have been.

joy was either hurt or mentally broken. it seems like sour grapes but there was scramble at the end of the second period and joy was grimacing in a way that seemed like almost crying. he was hit for stalling, to close the score to 7-2 and valencia and the stanford staff smelled blood in the water. valencia came out in the third attacking like a demon and joy was helpless. unclear what had happened but he was up 7-2 but mentally and physically broken. The Gaj match was strange because it looked like he was about to secure a takedown but Gaj did a great job to get into a scramble and put Joy in neutral danger for 3+4. As I was typing this, Shapiro took a MFF in the 7th place match which was pretty much what I expected. He seemed off yesterday from the first match where, up 13-0+rt he ignored his corner that was asking him to cut and get one more takedown. Looked like he was trying to conserve energy the whole tournament, a terrible sign when the level of competition goes up. The Ruiz matches against Wask and Kharchla were a nightmare of poor tactical preparation and finishing. In the Kharchla match, Ruiz started the third down one point and ~20 seconds of RT The corner was telling Ruiz to cut and I guess Ruiz thought he stood a better chance of a turn or a rideout as a fallback. That didn't work out at all. Cornella - Hardy went about as well as could be expected and tbh by the end of that one, Cornella had more juice. Strength > speed gave Hardy the early lead but Cornella nearly pulled that one out. Against Nogle, not much to say. Great second period ride from Nogle including a great turn. That NF4 put Cornella in catchup mode. The entire tournament was a frustrating exercise in finishing. I can't count the number of successful single leg attacks that were turned into nothing at best and counter offense more often. Watching this tournament as a Cornell fan ranked slightly behind colonoscopy prep.

well, spladle, it's a hard tournament! nothing comes easy for the 11 seed. Obviously I liked it better before Van Dee lost to Farber but 28-13 is a pretty good path to the 8/9 blood round for the hardware for an 11. Obviously that's chalk but I like Ferrara more than you do to begin with. LGR.

We'll see! I don't like his chances against Ayala but I do like his backside draw if he gets the expected path to the blood round - he'd face whoever Forrest beats in the QF.

#11 Ferrara dodged a bullet. Redding, up 2-1, on top with RT over 1:00, got hit with locked hands at the same time his ankle got borked. Have to rewatch to see how it happened but i think it got trapped under the rolling bodies. He got taped up but had no juice. Ferrara escaped after the restart for the lead then a TD and rideout (of a clearly wincing Redding) for the W. Everyone else looked great, though Ruiz gave up a leg to Cael Valencia a couple of times without conceding the points. Valencia hit the wall in the third and Ruiz started playing catch and release for the tech.

oh hmm i don't think he did for the QF - maybe he did for the consolation match to preserve his eligibility but i don't think he could if he failed the protocol @SetonHallPirate has Zerban on the blotter but idk if that means he's DQd from at-large eligibility

I'm only watching intermittently while waiting for the ILT on Sunday but in the 157 semis, the 12 seed from Morgan State (Charles, who had already pulled two upsets to reach the semis) got tossed on his head OOB by the 1 seed, was awarded a point for misconduct, then failed the concussion protocol... advancing him to the finals at a 2-bid weight.

he won his first round match - i don't think this is a suriano situation by rule.

no offense intended but did it look like a real injury in the first match or precautionary withdrawal because he's got an at-large locked up.

imo the physical action is clearly a toss (casual, with a little flick to make it spin), it happened while he had one foot in the circle, and it was an absolutely awful call. ]at least one cornell wrestler did something much more egregious against either brown or harvard and i held my breath. it was a casual "putting my gear near the bench" toss from a lot closer to the center of the mat before turning around for the handshake, nothing remotely out of line, but i was absolutely worried the ref was going to do something stupid.

if you tap out before getting pinned your coach should bench you. tapouts are so you don't get physically injured in a sport where the rules allow a guy to yank your arm out of its socket, not so you don't get embarrassed in front of your mom.

Yianni spent a lot of time under the knife as well. It's a risk these guys are all willing to take. I don't know how much tighter you can ref the action without totally bailing out the guy who gave up a leg in the first place. For every "the ref should have blown the whistle sooner" there are already a dozen accusations that a guy yelped to get a whistle to avoid giving up two like they are soccer players.

Was horrified by this result until I saw (a) the margin of victory was due to a closing seconds TD and (b) Ziegler had a solid record at 125 and it's only up at 133 filling in for Crookham that his record got ugly.

I think SHP was saying that they ID'd the car but that is not automatically being driven by the person it's registered to. But ... yeah probably enough for a warrant with just a general description of the driver as a giant slab.

They probably don't put an interstate alert out for a moving violation but i'm not surprised that a felony gets treated a little more seriously. They don't have the cops working in shifts to find the guy if they don't consider him an immediate threat but if he gets, say, a speeding ticket, the next cop will handle the arrest. At first I thought this was crazy, but since he bonded out he may go to (or already went to) Texas and report in so that he doesn't make the trip in a police transport. Depends on whether his Nebraska bond conditions make him stay in the state. At first I was surprised he waived extradition, but if he agreed to be extradited (from what I've seen) nobody is in a real hurry to do you a favor and send you over. You can sit in jail for weeks waiting to be transported even though you'll probably be bonded out shortly after you arrive. No, all that phrasing suggests (imo) is they turned the siren on and he floored it instead of pulling over. The police stopped chasing in a rare consideration of public safety in the face of disrespect.

i would be stunned if Fernandez actually replaces Joy in the lineup. It is more likely to me that Fernandez going to the Scuffle was his swan song / thank you for taking 149 the last two years and handling it well.
