Yes, it's true... Folks here are calling out other fans for not cheering the way they think they should be cheering. Some kind of crazy going on here.4 points

Looks like he hurt his knee against yahya thomas yesterday and had to injury default out of the match. Hope he is ok, the guy is so much fun to watch.3 points

That's interesting, I disagree. Even though PSU is obviously the gold standard right now, Iowa is still the most hated, at least partially because they seem to strive for it, lol.3 points

I think you saw underdogs doing what they could to keep it close and the referee allowing them to not wrestle. Barlett, for instance, wanted no part of an offensive attempt against Woods. He squared up and defended all the way to a loss. Could have been dinged several times for stalling. Brands did nothing against Starocci. If the referee was so inclined, he could have stalled him out, yet he only got hit once, I believe. Perhaps the referee decided that he wasn't going to decided the outcome. This dual reminded me (again) that stalling is the most inconsistently called rule in the sport. Also, one of these guys is actually going to stick Spencer Lee with that cradle. That's twice in the last couple of weeks he's found himself inches away from being stuck.3 points

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner So who won? No, not Penn State. Who cares about that? I mean who won the all important dual score guessing contest? Q: What does @BobDole wear? Boxers? or Briefs? A: Depends If we count correct number of match winners then the answer is a tie between @Mr. PeanutButter and @Holtfan. Both were a perfect 10 for 10. Can't get much better than that. Or Can You? Guessing the winners is only half the battle. You have to get the bonus points right, too. Here we have a tie, too. The Told Ya So Award for the lowest absolute error goes to @Barracuda141 and @PortaJohn. They both got the PSU total spot on and were within spitting distance of the Iowa total. A group of six ( @BerniePragle, @fishbane, @Le duke, @Mr. PeanutButter, @Pish, and Pyle) get the Woulda Coulda Shoulda Award for near misses. Somehow @Jimmy Cinnabon got 9 of 10 correct, but still had the next to last score error. Keep up the good work.3 points

I understand. That is according to the current rules interpretation. All they have to add to the rule book is "improve position" and "work for the fall."3 points

Micah was being polite. I, for one, appreciated that. If he was being bluntly honest, he'd say "Easy choice, no money in wrestling. NFL is where the money is."3 points

Even though they lost the dual I think Iowa showed well and should be happy. 1. Spencer is gonna dominate his way to #4. 2. Woods looks like a finalist again. 3. Murin looks like a high AA. 4. Siebrecht looks like a AA contender if Haines is one. 5. Kennedy was never in danger vs #5 Facundo. Kennedy will AA. 6. Brands was right there with Starocci. 7. PSU showed they are pretty overrated with Barlett and Van Ness. I will be stunned if either of them AAs in March.2 points

Wasn’t OSU one of the trend setters of the “poaching environment” by getting Mocco away from Iowa?2 points

It was nice to see guys getting after it and trying to score points.2 points

The VA Tech / Pitt ref did a nice job calling mat stalling and being vocal with wrestlers. “You’re head is staying on the mat” ”Same position too long” ”Not working to improve” Etc.2 points

I found it ironic that the "yell stalling every two second Hawkey's" were the ones stalling in almost every match. People can try and put lipstick on this pig, but Iowa stalled to keep this dual close...PSU clearly is the better team...period. Lee is my favorite person to watch wrestle and even he shouldn't let that match go to tech fall to a backup of a backup. Brands stalled to a close decision...and while the score may have been "close" he was NEVER close to winning that thing and stalled the whole time...so did about 3 other Iowa wrestlers. What I noticed having watched a lot of college wrestling, including Iowa, is they wrestled last night not to lose as opposed to wrestling to win, which I have never seen an Iowa team do before...well except in the NCAA tournament.2 points

For me it was exciting in the moment. The lack of takedowns meant so many matches were in the balance to the very end. But after individual matches I was disappointed with the lack of offense. PSU did not get so much as a takedown in 5 matches. Iowa failed to get a takedown in 8 matches. And 3 matches were won without either team getting a takedown. Only the first 2 matches had any kind of offense (I am not including 184 because it was such a mismatch).2 points

Not sure if the distinction matters, but "psu hatred" is almost always just "hatred" of obnoxious psu fans. The haters often want to root for some psu guys, but psu fans make that impossible.1 point

Regardless of how it ends up and who owns the state, the dual will be legit with at least 3 but hopefully more like 5 key matchups.1 point

I'm surprised this topic got as much traction as it has. I didn't expect a standing ovation and don't care that it didn't take place. The handful of meek boo's that were audible at match start also don't bother me.1 point

Really? Lets go weight by weight: 125: Vespa took his shot early, but it was over shortly afte that, so I wouldn't put any boredom on this match. 133: Teske's fault here. 141: Woods didn't do a whole lot the last half of the match, but it was still mroe than Bartlett did, and Woods had the lead, plus Woods had all the action in the first half. 149: Similar to Woods, Murin was the one attacking in the end with the lead, so I would put this on Van Ness 157: Probably the most even match in terms of action, scrambles (generated off Haines shots) and Siebrecht looking for something big. I didn't find this match boring, so nothing for me here. 165: Kennedy doing almost all the work here, other than one nice duck attempt by Facundo. 174: Neither guy did much, but Nelson did less, I would go 60-40 for Nelson causing the boringness here; Starocci could have tried more. 184: Not boring so much as one sided. Rhodes was giving an effort, but obviously no shot. 197: Kill me now, awful to watch. 50/50. HWT: Cass couldn't do much in the first half, Kerk didn't do anything in the third. The ride was....well, I've said I'm going to stop bitching about it, ti's just not going to get called. So I don't agree with your 75-25 number, but to each their own.1 point

To be honest, if they switched from folk to free next season, I think PSU would be even more dominant than they are under folkstyle rules. Look at how many members of the US senior freestyle team are from the NLWC. Now compare how many are from the HWC.1 point

The decline really took off when the dean Heil rule was passed and a 2x national champ failed to even make the podium as a senior.1 point

Why would people expect Lee to get a standing O? I am a huge Lee fan, but I wouldn't have gave a standing O to Lee but rather to the backup of the backup who didn't get pinned.1 point

I grew up in Huntsville, AL. That's where I remember 18.9 cents a gallon. Normally it was 21.9 cents. I don't remember getting any kind of toy or anything. You are one lucky one Mike. mspart1 point

Mike and I share different opinions and beliefs on the non-wrestling forums. But at the end of the day, we are all part of the same wrestling community. We support each other and pay it forward to the next generation of wrestlers. For example, Eric Akin sold me his wrestling mats at a significant discount for my son. I gave those mats to a new youth wrestler last year. I mentioned that my daughter started wrestling this year to Mike, and Mike sent wrestling swag and provided feedback on her wrestling. My daughter laughed when I told her I bicker with a World Champ's father, and he had a surprise for her. My daughter quickly fell in love with the sport, and DP is easily her favorite wrestler. At worlds, I was impressed with Dom's ability to finish shots and her no-panic defense discipline in winning close matches. From watching interviews/clips... Dom seems happy, confident, and well-supported. Kudos to Mike and her. How very different this is from another father/son combo that used to be on this forum. It's great to have MP on the forum, his support for women's wrestling, and his pride in his daughter's accomplishments. Good job, Mike, and let's go, DP!1 point

That's a lot of asterisks! Current top guys: 125 Lee 24 * 133 RBY 24 * 141 AlLIREZ (Class of 2019) ? 149 Yianni 23* 157 Robb Class of 2018? 165 O'TOOLE 21 174 Starocci was 22 over the summer ??? Wonder when his birthday is? 184 Brooks 23 197 Dean Class of 1987***** 285 Mason Parris 23** So of the #1s only O'Toole will be definitely be under 23 by this years nationals. Maybe Robb (but probably not), maybe Starocci, maybe Alirez. It isn't going to get much better in the next couple of years. Then we have the crop of 17 year old high school freshmen coming up in a few years, too.1 point

You'd be hard-pressed to find many 17 or 18 year olds in college wrestling when most are nearly 19 when they graduate high school1 point
