Davis has as many NCAA titles, twice as many career wins and twice as many B1G Titles. Plus, Davis had an Olympic Silver during college. All this while competing in fewer seasons than Lee.6 points

Next time we need to elect a Speaker let's hold it in CHA in front of 14k hawkeye wrestling fans. Guarantee they'd be done and out of there inside 3 hours.3 points

Should have been. Went ride outs instead. Although many folks were looking for the ball grab.3 points

1. I didn't make this thread. 2. I'm not outraged. 3. I'm talking about athlete safety, particularly at the middle and high school level. 4. Chill.2 points

If Lee stays healthy and gets his matches in, they will need a special cleaning crew to scrub the remains of his opponents off the mats in Tulsa.2 points

I'm firmly in the 'safety of the athlete comes first' camp. At least at middle/high school levels, I'd much rather see moves that have a higher chance to go sideways and hurt an athlete go away. Preempting all of the "maybe a different sport..." wannabee tough guy responses, my daughter never runs punishment moves like this and she's done OK.2 points

What if, we make a rule where you can’t touch the opponent below the waist? And your legs can’t be used to block theirs. Maybe we call that a ‘foul’ if you do use your legs against theirs or touch below the waist. Thoughts? Feels like the sport may be a bit different then. Perhaps we come up with a new name. I’m thinking something heavily European maybe?2 points

I'm surprised Gym Jordan didn't get in on the wrestling action on the floor of Congress ... though, on second thought, he apparently enjoys being a voyeur more. The most famous incident of aggression in Congress, of course, is the caning of Sumner in the Senate chamber (1856). If they had gone to a 16th vote last week for the Speaker, maybe we would have seen something like this happen to Matt Gaetz.2 points

I think McCarthy's tenure as speaker will be very short. Giving the Chaos Caucus the Motion to Vacate the Speaker implies they'll threaten him with it at every opportunity, either explicitly or implicitly. This would be like giving that psycho dad control over your dual lineup or season tournament schedule.2 points

I thought the same thing. In particular there was a moment where dean put his knee between Braxton's back and the knee. There was nothing that could be done except rip his leg apart. This is 100% intentional and should be illegal.2 points

Someone I’m close to reffed a girls dual and there was 4 matches. They probably need to do 1 division for everyone at first excluding NAIA1 point

that was not even close to same kerkvliet. it's a disingenuous comparison. the gable match happened 2 years and 30 lbs later. the better comparison is when Amos, after wrestling 220 and building his rep for 2 years, cut down to 92 kg for cadet trials. He took 4th in Greco and 3rd in Freestyle. 3 losses to much lower ranked wrestlers. Was supposed to see Ferrari in the finals for one of the most hyped matches of the season. Didn't even make it there. Why? Because grown up 195 is much tougher than 220. His entire style is built of athleticism and power and he's no longer the most athletic and powerful. i have a far from perfect record on recruits, but i was always low on amos on the old board. he's like a poor man's jacob warner. dominant in high school, but comes way back to earth when better athletes get access to better coaching. warner is more technical/savvy and a lot better at winning tough, low scoring matches though.1 point

I’m surprised to see so much support for a rule change. What injury has taken place that would justify rules that have worked for decades? Is pain-avoidance really reason enough to abolish a move, even where injury risk is low and it has been part of the sport for countless years without incident? I disagree it is a “punishment move.” If that is all it is, it would be stalling. I also disagree it works only if your opponent succumbs to the pain. Like a power half, an effective bow and arrow is about leverage and technique. The pain is a little extra encouragement, but better wrestlers can resist that. The move works if done properly because, pain aside, they have no choice. True, if done poorly it can seem like your are just torquing on the opponent, but the novel likely won’t work unless the other guy is a fish. A bow and arrow is infrequently seen because few do it well. Eric Guerrero was very effective with it internationally, Zain and Max are more recent effective practitioners, and I think it is very unfair to say they are somehow using brutish tactics. If other wrestlers were as good with it as they are, they’d use it too. All that said, it is always fair to discuss this at the margins — eg what angle merits a stoppage, when you move the ankle after posting it, etc. We can always refine and improve. Rule differences between HS and NCAA, and UWW for that matter, always merit reexamination. But to those advocating abolition because it is “cruel” or a “punishment” and nothing else, I’m sorry, but I couldn’t disagree more.1 point

Dude, You replied to my post with that diatribe without mentioning anyone else. Who the ***duck duck goose** else should I be thinking that's aimed at unless you specify?1 point

You know what I mean. Like having both boots in and running a power half against someone pinned to the mat with no way to turn. These are moves designed to inflict punishment.1 point

You will have to use Trackwrestling if you want to see anything on women's college wrestling. That is usually just results, but there is the occasional story. Our best Buckeye friend @MPhillipswas correct when he said "NCAA emerging sport." That is code for we are not going to be covering this until it is an official sport. Currently the women's college wrestling market is flooded. There are too many teams that have less than 20 wrestlers and yes they have 10 weight classes too. If we see more big schools like Iowa add a women's program, it might be the death of women's D3 wrestling.1 point

Jesus...this was NOT easy to get through. Yeah, I'm done pal. I'm in my 30s, I wrestled for 20 years. I don't need to pick another sport. I think I can still have an opinion on a move. What I can't do it decipher some of this nonsense and respond to it. No scenario was made up. You inferred it was SO outrageous that a kid could get hurt that in your wealth of experience..."I gave reffed for about 5 years…" you've NEVER seen anyone hurt from it. You still had to stop it. Oh and then apparently there were those other times; Huh...so all these times you've had to stop the bow and arrow, but it's NO different than any other move and there's no danger. And if a kid looks hurt...well, then he MUST be faking it! I made up a scenario? Huh...and what scenario did I "make up?" What did I post that didn't come DIRECTLY from you? Please by all means, post where I lied?1 point

Comparing either to Lee is crazy. Also, Byrd previously beat Ramos before getting launched at NCAAs. Oh and who finished higher while you’re taking potshots… Byrd or Ramos? Hint: Purdue hasn’t had an AA in how many years?1 point

gonna toot my own horn here and say i was all over this a few years ago. he's a tweener and built a lot of hype in high school by throwing much less athletic 220's around at fargo. the few times he made the cut to 195, he looked like a mid level recruit. he's not overly skilled and he loses his athleticism advantage down at 197. i think he'd be better served trying to wrestle up at heavyweight going forward, but i highly doubt he'll ever be elite. the debate about him v. ferrari was always a joke. ferrari was a far superior prospect.1 point

Could make for some good drama. Down by 12 with 7 seconds left, throw opponent to their back with a wicked headlock...... In the same vein, should people be allowed to completely finish their PED cycle before testing?1 point

I always like watching someone new to coaching yelling the whole "just stand up" - granted at times you get the kid who is just laying there, but generally if it was that easy they would get up I've really stopped yelling during most matches and do the majority of tweaks between periods or any downtime (injury/blood/etc..) - honestly I think giving looks of approval and affirming what they are doing is working and providing small pointers is better than just yelling crap the entire time1 point
