John is not the one that makes that happen. Mark Perry, Sr. is.2 points

• The prevailing word is that John is done at the end of the season. There was a lot of speculation that he was waiting for Tulsa's NCAAs before retiring. Of course there were a lot of other theories over the years. But right now, all indications are that he's done at the end of the year. • The advent/development of the portal is not a deterrent to the OK State job; it's an asset. OKST will be hunters for transfers, not the hunted.2 points

At the very least Wisconsin was deceitful in their statement a while back that they support him gaining eligibility and did everything they can do. Obviously, there is room for interpretation in what they would be signing. To suggest they could face sanctions for doing so is one of the most idiotic takes ever. At they very worst Wisconsin is being completely disgraceful. Either way it is bad look for them.2 points

Draft Kings has a future on Nickal at +1200 to be champ on Dec 31, 2023. The toughest part may not be ability but scheduling/climbing the ladder in short time since his next fight isn’t until March. But just like Gable at the Olympics, now is the time to take the action on the wrestler before Vegas catches up.1 point

Midlands caught us all with our guard down. It's just two days away. You can get an idea what's about to go down at these two links: 125-157 165-285 Here's a fun sample: A DAY IN HISTORY Mariah Carey topped the charts with Don't Forget About Us. At the box office, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was number one in 3,853 theaters nationwide. Top video games were Age of Empires III, Call of Duty 2 and World of Warcraft. It was December 30, 2005. On that same day, the #2-ranked ILLINI won their third consecutive Midlands title with placewinners Alex Tirapelle (1st), Pete Friedl (1st), Mike Poeta (2nd), Tyrone Byrd (2nd), Donny Reynolds (6th), and Troy Tirapelle (7th). Kyle Ott didn't even make the trip. By the time the ILLINI held up that Midlands team trophy in 2005, The Matrix was already 6 years, 8 months and 29 days old:1 point

Hodge once crushed the trunk of an apple tree with his bare hand. He then realized if he kept it up there wouldn't be any apples so he resorted to crushing apples with his bare hand. And now you know the rest of the story.1 point

... that rumor isn't true. It was actually "Cluck Norris" a chicken that had a chiseled jaw and rough beard. Weird for a chicken, but he was a weird chicken to be sure. He did run away from Dan... mostly because he was a chicken.1 point

Hodge was once in the same bar as Cuck Norris. Chuck took one look at Dan and ran away.1 point

I am sorry you didn't' figure out that "Oregon State's not a power 5...that's funny" was sarcastic (s). I am pretty sure 95% of the people who followed the conversation knew it was sarcasm (NOT s) - is that how you do that? Just trying to make it easy. Furthermore, if you did not know, I am an Oregon State fan and I am aware they are in the Pac 12 (s) - Is that the correct symbol for a "little" sarcasm?1 point

Not that anyone cares, as I realize this has been beat to death already, but here's my handful of thoughts on the topic. Its sort of a mixed verdict. 1. Wisconsin/Bono's public statements on the topic are misleading -- at best. Wisconsin is being disingenuous when its athletics department issues a statement saying they are actively working with the Nebraska to support his "immediate eligibility," and when Coach Bono sends out a tweet suggesting that the NPO option isn't available. The original statement had a grain of truth insofar as they supported his appeal to the NCAA based on lack of awareness of the deadline, but implies support of his NPO efforts which is untrue. And Bono's tweet was straight up untrue. 2. Wisconsin's hesitance to sign the NPO form is defensible. My annoyance with Wisconsin's duplicity notwithstanding, I don't think its fair to criticize Wisconsin for not signing the NPO, since Wisconsin would have to certify Burwick "was no longer given an opportunity to participate." Though I can see why a lay person might think that it "counts" that Burwick was recruited over and lost his starting spot, that's not what those terms actually mean, according to NCAA definitions. Per NCAA by-law 14.02.9, "participate" means the "student-athlete either practices in a sport (see Bylaw 17.02.1) or competes in a sport, as defined in Bylaw 17.02.8," (https://web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/search/bylawView?id=8787), and those latter definitions make clear that they have nothing to do with whether you're a starter or on scholarship. If I were Wisconsin's GC, I wouldn't let them sign the form as-is (without explanation). 3. Manning isn't helping. I get his passion to defend a student-athlete, but saying the "statement they put out was the biggest fraud I’ve ever seen,” as quoted in Hamilton's article on Flo, is definitely not the right approach. Yes, its misleading, but it has enough truth to not be called "fraud," and that sort of accusation is counterproductive. (From the Flo interview, I think Manning realizes he sort of stepped in it.) 4. Wisconsin should sign the form with explanation. What I would advise Wisconsin to do if they asked me is to sign the form, and to check the box saying he didn't have an opportunity to participate, but to put an asterisk by the latter box -- and to add an explanatory sentence or two at the bottom. Say Burwick wasn't forbidden from being on the team but did have his spot jeopardized by a transfer student brought at his weight without his knowledge, after the transfer deadline -- and that Wisconsin supports him not losing his eligibility. That's honest, and if the NCAA still says no, that's on them, not Wisconsin. Anyone who still criticizes Wisconsin after that (e.g. saying that they shouldn't had given the explanation/asterisk) is basically saying Wisconsin is morally obliged to lie to the NCAA -- and I'm sorry, but F anyone who says that. 5. The NCAA rule needs to change. If an athlete wants to transfer to a new school after a given deadline, and the original school has zero objection to their doing so, they ought not lose a year of eligibility. Period. I'm fine with the NCAA requiring the original school's consent if the transfer is after a certain deadline, but who is the NCAA to forbid the original school from granting consent? The idea that the NCAA should be telling athletes they lose a year of eligibility even when both schools consent is preposterous.1 point

With Barr, Sealey, Ryder and Kasak coming in, and Starocci/Brooks having at least one more year left after this one, someone is going to be taking a GS/OTC + RS before cracking the lineup. Maybe several people. Or someone is going to be riding the bench while using a year of eligibility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Well, if you have Haines, Facundo, Starocci, and whomever else at 165/174,you have at least three high recruits/studs for two spots. You have a limited number of redshirts between these guys. You want to maximize their years of eligibility. I don't care if you say it is a "real' log jam, you need to manage these things.1 point

What it shows is that 159-0 will likely never be duplicated. One reason is you likely won't ever see a guy wrestle 159 NCAA matches again. The other is it is almost impossible to not have an off day, get caught by something, or someone just being better that day. Most would agree that Spencer Lee has been one of if not the most dominant wrestler in recent years and he has 5 losses. It is truly amazing to go your entire career without losing. It is hard enough to do it for a season.1 point

LOL @ thinking Pendleton or any coach wouldn't leave Oregon State in a heartbeat for OSU or any other big time job. Oregon State is a nice stepping stone for a new coach to cut his teeth, that's all Pendleton is doing right now until he makes the jump to a top program (whether OSU or elsewhere)1 point

"Definitely a better job" for who? Everyone? I disagree,- there are a lot of people this would not be a "better" job for... but it doesn't really matter because Pendleton put an end to the speculation and will be busy with another program for awhile.1 point

I know it's not collegiate, and I was looking for some Belaglozov bodylocks in competition to add to the Christmas thread where I mentioned bodylocks to a fall/pin. Before I could get that far, I found this "gem". An example of my good friend/team mate Sergei Belaglozov showing a few of his skills on his feet and par tierre. Enjoy!! Appreciate the optimism that we are gonna witness history , but spencer has wrestled twice maybe in 12 months and yianni already lost one match and went to OT in another and seems like he’s over the whole college/ folk style thing , I believe that if yianni didn’t have a chance at being a 4xer he wouldn’t have even come back this year combine that with a very hungry and pretty deep weight guess we ll see how it goes ….. fun fact about Dan hodge sometime in the early 80s he ran into a group of recon marines in a bar/ restaurant type place while on vacation , a few of the guys wrestled themselves, so they knew who he was and went and talked to him , shook his hand, but the biggest of the group was a guy about 6’4 270 pounds , he instantly challenged hodge to a wrestling match , hodge laughed it off and said no but the guy persisted and eventually later on hodge agrees but tells the guy he’s not going to hold back , long story short they wrestled for about 10 seconds and hodge doubled him so hard the guy chipped his elbow on the ground and broke 2 ribs and instantly gave up , add insult to injury the big guy got disciplined by the marines for what they considered an injury sustained in a bar fight1 point

Could you quote me accurately and responsibly please.... my quote was "Funny how some people think a coach has nothing to do with the transfer eligibility.... NOT " a coach has nothing to do with transfer eligibility." That's a complete twisting of my actual quote. And to be clear... I don't care what you "believe" , "don't believe" or what "appears" to be ... Wrestlers have sat due to a coach/pogram not releasing them.1 point

I'm guessing his 6 likes on the subject are people from this board....not much support for Bono in the responses. Funny how some people think a coach has nothing to do with the transfer eligibility.1 point

The second post in the stupid things THAT ARE WRESTLING RELATED involves that trip to wrestlestat.com. I wanted to see who the Final Bosses are. IMAR was the very definition of a Final Boss. If you beat him, you won everything. If he beat you, you would have to start all over again. Brooks and Starocci have only three and two losses each, respectively, so will they end up as Final Bosses? Spencer Lee has five losses, but there were extenuating circumstances. Most importantly, in the NCAA tournament, he has been a final boss. In looking at Starocci's upcoming matches, he has a bit of cakewalk: Fish, fish, fish, fish, Ethan Smith, Donnell Washington, fish, fish, fish. Should we be on "Final Boss Watch" for his matches with Smith and Washington?1 point

Again, it's gross to debate semantics as you literally take away a part of the young man's very limited asset: his collegiate wrestling ability. Once his college wrestling career is over, Chris Bono will still be coaching, and the AD will still be ADing, but this kid will not get another shot to compete in college wrestling. Saying he has an opportunity to compete in a weight where they literally brought an experienced All American into the weight requires such mental gymnastics, I can't believe we're even doing it. Kyle Burwick has no opportunity to wrestle for Wisconsin this season. They preferred Taylor LaMont. He is now wrestling for him. And now they are stopping him from competing elsewhere.1 point

I do sometimes find the “grow the sport comments”. As if. Parent: hey little Johnny. Wanna go out for wrestling this year? 7 year old Johnny: Nah. I think I’ll play soccer. parent: interesting. Why? Johnny: I don’t like the conference tournament deciding who goes to NCAAs. It’s not fair. Now if they had a regional qualifier. I would totally be in.1 point

Can you just post it? Few, if anyone, here remembers what you were banned for (It was before me, so I don't know), so just post it. Might I recommend not continually bringing up the old bans? This is a new home, no need to keep dredging that up. I don't think it matters to anyone. So, what's your proposal?1 point

Let the dude wrestle. This clearly doesn’t come off as a case of someone transferring to avoid discipline (think former Oregon QB and donkey Jeremiah Masoli) and even though they are giving out free years like candy these days, the lifespan of a college wrestling career is pretty limited. I don’t care WHO is at fault, but let the dude compete. I don’t even care what the “rule” is here. Let the dude compete. What is the end result? Maybe a dual win and maybe the difference between 4th and 5th in the Big Ten tournament?1 point

This seems bizarre to me. I think it was one of the best fact-based responses in the history of Twitter. But the questions! Why would Bono leave himself so open? Why would he tweet one paragraph and not the other (more relevant) paragraphs? Does he need somebody in the legal department to read these for him? Did Snyder create a Deep-Fake verified Bono account to set up Bono? Can Bono read English? Now, I hate Nebraska and Wisconsin equally--they are both just awful--but I also think Burwick is a really good wrestler, and he would be an immediate upgrade for the cornhuskers, and unless Bono recruits a P4P top twenty kid at 133, Burwick is gonna beat Wisconsin every year. Just so it's clear: I loathe both Wisconsin and Nebraska. My suggestions for resolving the dispute in order of likelihood: Duel, dual, wrestle-off between Burroughs and Howe, ball grab (circa the Metcalf era of freestyle), Trade Burwick for Boo, a bushel of corn, and a walk-on to be named later, get pissed off about being showed up online and not sign anything ever, sign the dang thing.1 point
