In high school I was a straight A student. With the freedom to sleep in, skip classes, and drink beer, boy did I regress. But, I digress...what was the topic?

Like most kids that age, college is the first time, for many, that they are free from the shackles of parents oversight/discipline. I would imagine that a certain percentage of high achieving high schoolers, both academically and athletically owe some of their success to the efforts of their parents. Coaches CAN fill that role for a lot of kids, but not all. Lots of life distractions on college campuses and some adapt better than others. Those intangibles can be tough to sniff out during the recruiting process, and coaches place various levels of importance on them. I don’t believe there are any appreciable differences between the top 20 or so programs in their approach to this issue. Some kids will remain focused and get better, a few will lose focus for various reasons and stagnate. DI wrestling is HARD, and hard times don’t build character, they reveal it.

Is it too early to start a preview of this? Is anyone here attending in person? Chattanooga is only 3 hours from me here in the beautiful mountains of WNC, so I’ll be there. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it, far better for fans than Midlands or Vegas. UTC is a charming campus town within walking distance of the arena, which doesn’t have a bad seat in the house.

Imagine doing all this, risking your rep over trying to force a kid to stay at your institution. And not even like some crazy high level kid! And a kid you literally just brought somebody in to wrestle their weight! What a needlessly self-inflicted wound.

I've played for about 40+ years. Off and on. Playing more now than when the kids were at home. I did some home recordings that came out ok. But I am not that good, just like in wrestling. I love wrestling, but never made it to state. Almost did as a sophomore in HS, got Russian Flu as a Junior that took me out, and hyper-extended my elbow as a senior. As a result of the last, I was able to complete my Eagle Scout project and finished that all up. So some good came out of it. Both mishaps occurred in Dec or Jan Jan and States were Feb. Now I think I would have gone as a Senior for sure, and might have placed but even so, my wrestling career was not stellar. But I was a volunteer wrestling coach to HS's wherever I've lived for about 40 years. So there is something that really gets to me about wrestling. Same with guitar. I wish I was good, but I am not. But I now have the equipment I have wanted. Les Paul guitar, speaker cabinet and amplifier head. I have fun with it still. Learning new stuff keeps it all fresh. I am improving all the time but progress is not quick. I am a great fan of David Gilmour, who does not play fast (I cannot) but says so much with what he puts out there. Thanks for asking. mspart

This seems bizarre to me. I think it was one of the best fact-based responses in the history of Twitter. But the questions! Why would Bono leave himself so open? Why would he tweet one paragraph and not the other (more relevant) paragraphs? Does he need somebody in the legal department to read these for him? Now, I hate Nebraska and Wisconsin equally--they are both just awful--but I also think Burwick is a really good wrestler, and he would be an immediate upgrade for the cornhuskers, and unless Bono recruits a P4P top twenty kid at 133, Burwick is gonna beat Wisconsin every year. Just so it's clear: I loathe both Wisconsin and Nebraska. My suggestions for resolving the dispute in order of likelihood: Duel, dual, wrestle-off between Burroughs and Howe, ball grab (circa the Metcalf era of freestyle), Trade Burwick for Boo, a bushel of corn, and a walk-on to be named later, get pissed off about being showed up online and not sign anything ever, sign the dang thing.

I'm guessing you live someplace warm. Training for Boston in the cold, snowy, dark midwest is awful. To train for a 2:50 here is rare. Either way, best of luck to you. Maybe post your bib, it'd be fun to follow. My training group had us doing enough hills to prepare for the "no, downhill is not easy at all" realization. But still not enough for Newton (is there ever?) I bonked and penguin'ed my way from Heartbreak to finish in 3:40'ish. Was brutal.

Wouldn't have predicted that one right. I'd forgotten that Jack Wagner transferred from UNI to NC. I'd guess going down to 125 isn't easy for him.

Yeah, I don't see this happening. Major universities don't seem to be adding programs.

App St is good, and John Mark is a great coach. Hell they have a great staff, Ian Miller was one of the best, and then throw in a Patterson for the light weights. I could not believe how many people it showed up to a home dual, there looked like 30 people in the stands. Again, go to an APP ST home dual, it is standing room only. To me, NC kids faded, as they went into the later periods. Coleman looks like he is defeated, and at one point App St kids are out of their seats yelling etc...while NC kids, showed not a whole lot of emotion. Obviously, the big match was the Miller kid being Lautt, again, NC kid faded late in the periods. I think 125 starting off with a fall was big also. Great dual, fun to watch for sure.

Just for good measure, the individuals in question are: Boo Dryden, Cale Davidson (both starters at Nebraska) and Michael Spangler (backup for Indiana)

USAW's attempts to "market" the sport are feeble at best. You can't do much marketing if you don't have a single marketing person on staff.

I see the problem differently. Wrestling's biggest failure comes from the failure at youth retention. Basketball, baseball and football seem to have been able to build multi-generational interest. Your dad played football and so did your friends' dads, so they all come to watch the football game. We don't seem to build wrestling the same way where I come from.

The nebraska statements are far from rumors

Funny how Burwick, his dad, Nebraska and wrestling media are all saying the same thing, but Wisconsin has been silent other than some vague comment. Yet, people still want to defend Wisconsin with lots of "if's" and "Maybe's".
