  1. Coach Robie exenmplifying the VT motto “This is Home”.

  2. Hope both men have successful surgeries. Prayers up. The Latona's have been a part of VT wrestling for nearly a decade. Everyone knows Sam, but his older brother Dom started wrestling at VT in 2016. The Brothers have always been hard working, humble and selfless. Sam sacrificed a couple years with a severe cut to help VT get the best lineup on the mat. Nice to see the family receive a wonderful gift from Coach Robie. VT Wrestling Tweet

  7. Coach Robie is a great guy!!! Being a former Hokie wrestler and just finishing my 28th year of coaching in Virginia, I have been able to have some great conversations with him. Been fortunate enough to have coached two kids who wrestled for him and he was inducted to the National Hall of Fame the same night as my father. He is a very genuine person, and a straight shooter. The Hokies may never win a team national title, but there is not any other person I would want to lead us in Blacksburg. This is an unbelievably selfless act and resonates with me what a tremendous person Coach Robie is.

  10. I haven't seen or heard a word from Aaron Pico since he started fighting in Bellator. On the other hand, I can't get away from seeing Bo Nickal content. I am not going to root for an arrogant prick just because he comes from the same sport I like. He's a clown and maybe he'll be more tolerable now that he can't pretend like he'd beat anyone in the world if given the chance. The UFC has coddled him and selected opponents to help him build his reputation and anticipation of his future match-ups, and he got booed in his last fight for being so boring, and then just got embarrassed in this fight.

  16. These guys don't know what they're talking about. The only reason Dana didn't sign Ben during his prime is because his style was boring. Ben was the #1 fighter in the world outside of the UFC for years before he retired, and then came back after his prime with a bum hip. Anyone that is arguing for Bo has no knowledge of how the MMA world works. This match-up was supposed to be a stepping stone for Bo, not his first MMA loss. The fact that he did lose just proves how much growth he needs to be a legitimate contender in the UFC. It's not like it was a freak knockout or a weird submission. He was simply bested by someone who displayed a far better foundation of MMA skills than himself.

  22. I think as long as he's following the rules and isn't protesting anything, he is probably going to be ok? I know we're trying to steer away from politics but I just have to point out the absolute absurdity of this comment- "following the rules and isn't protecting..." is an unbelievable thing to say from someone that I assume is proud to be an American and would seemingly be a person in a crowd chanting "U-S-A, U-S-A! The right to free speech and ability to protest is one of the most quintessential American things to do. The fact this comment was so casually stated is frighteningly disappointing and disturbing. The unconscious brainwashing has really taken its toll to the point someone would claim protesting is not following the rules when it is a citizens constitutional right to do so.

  23. I think this chart sums up the impact of the NCAA's decision to take away a year of eligibility from the 2016 high school graduating class (approximately) and transfer it to the 2017 and beyond classes (approximately) in college wrestling. Using Willie's Big Board data, out to his top 100 ranked recruits I show the number of All-American honors won by each high school graduating class. Notes: The 2016 graduating class was poised to become the most decorated of the era before the NCAA decided to cancel the 2020 tournament. As it stands, without their final year of eligibility they were only 1 AA behind 2014, equal with 2015, and 5 AA's ahead of 2013. The 2017 - 2019 classes effectively received an extra redshirt allowing them to complete their careers a year older than they would have otherwise. While not all took advantage of the extra year, enough did that is shows up in the data. Curiously, the 2020 class, the direct beneficiaries of the fifth year, did little with it. While 40 of the 100 still have remaining eligibility, only 11 of the 40 have AA'd in the past. The class of 2020 is likely to finish with 50 - 55 AA's. The class of 2021 is a bloodbath. With only 16 total AA's from 9 wrestlers among the top 100 through four years, it is not looking good. The story can be told by its top 2 ranked high schoolers. Paddy Gallagher and Alex Facundo have zero AA's between them. While Facundo still has two years left (3? who really knows for sure at this point?) and Gallagher still has one, even if they AA out it will be historically low.

  24. The NCAA lost a ton of money in 2020 from not having March Madness basketball. The NCAA couldn't afford to lose out on football revenue and basketball revenue in the 2020-2021 school year, but they realized there would be reluctance on the part of athletes to waste a year of eligibility if the season did not happen or was cancelled midway through. They countered this by assuring athletes that participating in 2020-2021 would not harm their eligibility, ensuring that most athletes would agree to play and that the NCAA would get their normal revenue streams. (Don't forget that in the 2020-2021 school year, it didn't seem to be guaranteed that a full season could go off without a hitch)

  28. Again, Trump did not say he does not have to follow the Constitution. He was asked about Due Process for Abrego and he was saying he was not clear on that particular matter. He is leaving that up to the attorneys responsible for that. If you are going to insist that Trump said he does not have to follow the Constitution, then you are simply willfully being ignorant of the context of the conversation that was had, and quite literally knowingly acting ignorant because this has been explained a number of times. It is not logical to pursue that line because you know the context in which this whole thing was said, similar to my example about Africans. You won't understand because you don't want to. You want to take everything out of context and say see, he wants to be a dictator, he wants to be Hitler. It ain't working guys. It just shows how pathetic your reasoning ability and overall outlook is. Try being reasonable, it works most of the time. mspart

  29. The discussion was regarding deporting illegal aliens. When the question of the constitution came up this is the context and why he responded that if they had to do millions of jury hearings, that would be too expensive. KRISTEN WELKER: Your secretary of state says everyone who’s here, citizens and non-citizens, deserve due process. Do you agree, Mr. President? PRES. DONALD TRUMP: I don’t know. I’m not, I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know. KRISTEN WELKER: Well, the Fifth Amendment says as much. PRES. DONALD TRUMP: I don’t know. It seems — it might say that, but if you’re talking about that, then we’d have to have a million or 2 million or 3 million trials. We have thousands of people that are some murderers and some drug dealers and some of the worst people on Earth. KRISTEN WELKER: But is — PRES. DONALD TRUMP: Some of the worst, most dangerous people on Earth. And I was elected to get them the hell out of here and the courts are holding me from doing it. KRISTEN WELKER: But even given those numbers that you’re talking about, don’t you need to uphold the Constitution of the United States as president? PRES. DONALD TRUMP: I don’t know. I have to respond by saying, again, I have brilliant lawyers that work for me, and they are going to obviously follow what the Supreme Court said. What you said is not what I heard the Supreme Court said. They have a different interpretation. The question was about due process and the constitutional guarantee of due process. Due process does not mean a jury trial in the case of immigration. An immigration judge stating the illegal needs to be deported is due process. It's best to understand things based on context. The context is due process in deporting illegals. The context is not the Constitution which everyone is trying to make this. The next question is why is the press and the left willing to die on the Abrego hill? If he does come back, he will just be deported again. The conditions of his "stay in the US for free card" are not the same as they were in 2019 and he could easily be deported with those details brought before an immigration judge. The man was transporting illegals using his boss's car with no license to drive. And the boss is in jail for transporting illegals. Put 2 and 2 together folks on Abrego. But the questioning that has everyone all jittery was all about the treatment of illegal aliens. You'll notice that no one is talking about the child citizens who were deported anymore. Because it was a non story. Mom was being deported and wanted her children to come with her. Period, end of story. No apologies for not investigating more and figuring that out on their own, the press is completely out of control on their non investigative approach to reporting news. This is very much the case. Take a quote out of context and run with it to show the Pres does not feel he has to follow the Constitution in any case whatsoever. mspart

  35. Aaron actually recently signed with the UFC other than dislocating his shoulder against Jeremey Kennedy he has been on a tear, and I think he has a good shot of winning a belt. He is truly a complete fighter just may have chin issues and sort of got throw to the wolves when he was too green. My gauge on Bo which could probably be completely off base is that he is not pushing himself in training. He spends most of his time in happy valley likely training with the same guys that probably are not as good as him and then does the last few weeks of camp in florida which at that point I doubt they are giving him guys that can beat him so that his confidence is not shot. I know he trains with Johnny eblen which is great but thats a style that is probably fairly comfortable for him and who's to say how hard Eblen goes. As for RDR he held two belts in one for a reason he is very good and had a great gameplan he was constantly moving forward and throwing knees up the middle which probably made Bo apprehensive about lowering his level. The two most concerning things were seeing Bo get stuck underneath and have terrible body language to getting hit. You can be as good as you want but if you can't take getting hit you are not going to make it very far.
