I'm not sure how much you have watched Zepeda wrestle. . .when Zepeda is in shape and motivated, he is capable of beating anyone in this age group. I look at this as a quality win for Stanich, regardless of the score.4 points

Yeah 65 is an actual mess in terms of predicting who is going to win it every year. I think it also has do to with the fact that the vast majority of countries can field top level guys at that weight class. Compare that to 57 or 125 where the number of elite guys is far less purely due to genetics. It is very unlikely you will find an elite 125 from Japan or an elite 57 from Iran because of that. I also think there is a lot of parity because its pretty much impossible to prep for 8-10 high level guys for a worlds/olympics. Olympics last year had Muszukaev, Dudaev, Amouzad, Retherford, Kiyooka, Rivera, Aliyev, Ochir, Akmataliev and Tevanyan. More than half of the guys in the bracket were world/olympic medalists. That's just stupid depth. So a little under performance in one match can cost you a medal. I think this is where the Russian guys benefit the most because of how nuts their brackets are domestically they are used to it so they better navigate through. Whereas in Iran and US there isn't as much depth domestically so our guys aren't as used to these sort of brackets.3 points

We are talking about "foreign nationals who live without official authorization in a country of which they are not a citizen." Many of these nationals are documented but they do not reside here legally. Illegal immigrant is a more accurate term than undocumented immigrant. An alien is any individual who is not a U.S. citizen or U.S. national. We are referring to aliens residing in the country illegally, hence the appropriate term 'illegal alien.' Take your love of ever changing neutral terminology and shove it up the exhaust manifold of your posterior sitting region. Don't be a bigot against truthful terms.3 points

1. This post is in very poor taste, but also demonstrates how people are attacked for speaking out or reporting against sex crimes 2. My understanding was that her site was clothed and she was more than happy to take peoples money for it. However, you'd probably know better than me.2 points

That's the thing about 65 - it is widely considered the toughest bracket annually, has the most consistent turnover on domestic teams due to athlete peak on an annual basis, and because the margins are so tight due to high-level talent each year you could wrestle the bracket ten times and have at least 4 different champions and 20 different medalists. Parity example: 2021 Yianni got rocked by Tevanyan who proceeded to lose next round to someone who lost next round, both went home without repechage; in 2022 Yianni beat Tevanyan round 1 and went on to silver while Tevanyan lost R2 repechage; 2023 Yianni didn't even make the US team and Tevanyan went on to win bronze. Turnover example: From 2021-2023 there were 101 participants at 65kg worlds/olympics): 61 wrestlers represented their country one time during that span, 22 made their national team twice, and 18 made their national team three times; none made it all 4 times (recognizing that there was disparity at 21 worlds since it was a mickey mouse tourney immediately following Tokyo olympics) Exactly two wrestlers had multiple medals across those four tourneys: Musukaev and Bajrang. The point is 65 is so tight that it's a crapshoot at best.2 points

The term illegal alien is used to factually describe what they are...they came across the border or are here ILLEGALLY, and they are not from the US hence they are an ALIEN to our country. You and others can make up in your heads a million ways why that is offensive or how it "hurts" people but facts are facts and they don't care about feelings. Also, you can make up terms like "privilege" or call me names all you want but it doesn't change any of the facts.2 points

Firstly, no it isn’t. It’s a semantic question that doesn’t address the topic. secondly, for the same reason we stop using slurs for all other groups. It’s dehumanizing. Making it easier to treat them as ‘less than’. Unless that is your goal. To propose solutions to a problem without having the burden of thinking of them as similar to you in anyway. It tells us how unserious you are in addressing the issue. Tells us that you intend to treat them with as little compassion and empathy as possible. Flexing your privilege for no other reason than because you can. If that is the case, it makes you a monster. If not, you’re just a bigot. *not saying that you think or feel this way. But how insisting on using those terms might say about you.2 points

Mostly crappy AI posts so far. They'll get better. If any of you don't realize this is already the world we're living in. Time to wake up. We're here. Trust No One. (And in Trump's case, trust him even less. He's the largest support of this, he is a mush brain and doesn't understand it a bit, but he enjoys the money he's getting paid to support it.)1 point

Not a random thread - based on observations. The AI posts are starting to become more frequent. They stick out because they are so poorly done right now... but as they get better, they won't stick out as much. They will get better. A lot better. That is inevitable. At some point, probably sooner than later, they won't stick out at all. I created the thread as a kind of public service announcement. Some folks don't need it here, some folks do. If you prefer to dig your head into the sand and not deal with reality - maybe you've been hitting that cough medicine.1 point

Gonna have to post a list of each one? They all may have different meanings or reasons1 point

The counter example is Coleman Scott for Oklahoma State at 133 lbs (4x AA) and Scott Coleman for Iowa State at heavyweight (2xAA). Both wrestled at the same time. Unfortunately, no head-to-head matchups. So not so much a battle against ones self as a battle against your mirror image?1 point

I was also referring to the 8-8 criteria win over Zepeda that I referenced earlier. Admittedly, the OP backed off a little, but that's where the "win is a win" sentiment was initially expressed. I had made the point that it might be a little early to talk about Stanich being a contender when he is squeaking out a win over a high school wrestler who may not be a starter at NC State this year (but I'm really hoping pans out over the long run).1 point

Yeah... being that Blaze is the only one who made ANY offensive attacks in that match, I think he'll be just fine going forward. It was 2-1 and Blaze was down... all on shot clocks, despite Blaze making the offensive effort. He was pushing him out, made a reaching shot and Mendez got behind. The match was weak on Mendez's part. Blaze was the considerably smaller guy and he couldn't capitalize.1 point

To bring more facts to the discussion: Just looked at the Ticketmaster schematic. Over 3000 seats sold and they just opened up 2 more sections totaling about 450. Only about 100 of those 3000 sold are up for resale on their site. Don't know how many could be up for sale elsewhere, but probably not many. Anyway, hard to imagine last-minute and walk-up sales won't take that 3000 number quite a bit higher. (Because they're opening new sections as needed in the 15,000-capacity arena; it means most of those several thousand tickets have been sold to real people, not ticket merchants that can't make any money in this situation.) Should be a decent crowd.1 point

Totally agree with the first half of your post. Kinda agree with the 2nd part. However, I'll trust Trump with the country over that open border, brain dead puppet or the queen of cackling any day...1 point
