True story - OF was originally created as an outlet for content creators to directly monetize their work via subscription-based free market environment. It just so happened to be taken over by the world's oldest profession. So if anything, it sounds as if she was using it for what it was actually created for.3 points

I know there is no chance, but a lineup of Bassett-Kannon Webster-Melvin Miller-Braeden Scoles at Illinois would be nails. Poeta would teach the slick stuff and if AOC sticks around he has one of, if not the, best front-head series in the country for short offense/defense wins matches. Those four could seriously push each other to a murderers' row of national champs.3 points

If you're asking whether or not one article, written by a website that I have no background knowledge of whether or not it's a credible source, is going to make me decide that someone is guilty of a crime that they haven't even been charged with yet, is my morality system, then yes. If Starocci is charged with the alleged crime, and convicted, then my morality system will tell me that he wasn't a good guy.3 points

I'm guessing that the university is waiting for an inquiry or inquiries, by the university, the police, and/or more news organizations, to be completed before it says anything or allows any of its employees to say anything. If the inquiries finish and disciplinary action is taken or a story written, then I'd expect statements in response. If they finish and nothing comes of it, not sure whether they'd respond. It's a tough situation. The likeability gap you mention between Starocci and Bartlett factors into it, but I think the thing that makes it really difficult is that it seems like the big drivers of this are Ms. Bartlett and Starocci, both of whom are at best are undignified and at worst toxic people. Mix that together and include sex issues in the equation and it's going to get very ugly. This topic thread is about Cael, and he's caught somewhere in the middle of all this. It's possible he acted by the book on everything he knew about but is hamstrung by university policy right now in terms of commenting. It's also possible that given his lack of enthusiasm for publicity he's happy to let one student paper story blow over without engaging. And it's also possible his program has become dysfunctional. Syd seems to be noxious and not someone I'd care to spend a minute with, let alone be associated with in any way (while recognizing that I simply do not understand a lot of what makes that generation tick), but it's people like that who are often the only ones who can blow the top off an organization that has gotten out of control. We really can't know based on the public record if that describes Penn State and Cael. His 4x champ has been popped twice for PEDs (please don't tell me that this NLWC athlete is not relevant to a discussion about the PSU coach, that's wrong for a lot of reasons) and his 5x champ seems to have been a renowned jerk and possibly a criminal. Not good looks but there's not enough info to know if those are the tips of two massive icebergs that implicate program-wide issues, or just a couple of floating hazards without much below them.3 points

At the very least, mediocre middle weights isn't true, anymore - depending on your definition of a middle weight. They have beaten us at 74 KG, 86 KG, and 97 KG within the last two years.3 points

In regard to the Clippers! The way I look at it has to do with perspective...I have no problem holding someone responsible for what they may have done and said in the 70's, but only by the societal norms of the 70's, not by current standards. People that were not racist at heart did and said things in the 70's that by today's societal norms would sound and seem very racist...heck watch movies from the 70's, 80's, and even the 90's and based on today's societal norms one would be like sheesh, that seems really racist; however, at the time it did not. Anyway, didn't mean to harp on the 70's thing, but I guess it is all about perspective. As I have said repeatedly, I personally don't like Trump's personality, he is brash, rude, and very arrogant; however, I am able to not look at him through a constant negative lens and perspective that some, like you, have and do. And that is fine to have one's own perspective, but I just don't like when people use that 100% negative perspective of someone to twist and turn things into claims about the person that I personally have never witness or heard the man say that I would consider "racist"...and the "proof" that some try to use is either them playing mental gymnastics to make crazy leaps , or they are using things done/said in the past and applying today's societal norms to it that when said and done at the time was not considered "racist". Anyway, just my perspective on things...everyone is entitled to their own.2 points

Governance is boring, but crucial to a society that wants to function at a high level. Trouble is American political rhetoric has become so heated that nobody can have a normal conversation about these common interests. How can you talk about the very boring but very important topics of road maintenance, park hours, water treatment practices, social programs etc when the Evil Other Side is actively trying to ruin the country forever? Our congresspeople have completely duped the public into thinking they're some kind of saviors, when the data itself shows that there's not much difference between Republican and Democrat administrations. By and large the economy grows, the debt grows, unemployment goes up and down, etc. It's a shame because if enough folks stopped fighting these emotional imaginary battles then they could pressure the electeds to fight real battles like paying off the national debt, combatting predatory healthcare practices, keeping inflation and cost of living down, ensuring cybersecurity, deterring WWIII, etc Anyways thats my soapbox lol2 points

I love this idea personally. A couple other names to consider would be Scott Green & Donnie Vinson. Yes, I know Vinson just took over at Buffalo a year or so ago, and is doing a great job recruiting/building there, and I know Green seems excited about working with Nickerson. But, Binghamton is both of their alma maters and that means something to a lot of people. Other names: Nic Bedelyon (I know he applied and was a finalist for Kent State HC job), Ramos???, Hayden Hidlay (gets him a HC job closer to home).2 points

Giving new meaning to French Kiss is this story from The Athletic: "The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has cleared French Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus of an anti-doping rule violation after judges accepted the contamination was due to kissing her former partner. Following an in-person hearing at headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland in March, CAS issued a verdict Monday saying its judges accepted Thibus’ contamination was due to kissing her then-partner over a period of nine days who had been consuming ostarine without her knowledge, dismissing an appeal made by WADA which sought a four-year ban for the French athlete." CAS clearly gives extra points for creativity and originality leaving me to think Aaron Brooks wasn't trying hard enough.2 points

When celebrities publicly support Gaza, even if they mean well and are trying to stand up for innocent people, it often ends up helping the wrong side — especially the terrorists in charge. Yes, ordinary people and children in Gaza have suffered a lot, especially from Israeli attacks. But here’s the thing: their own rulers, like Hamas, have done even more damage to them. These groups provoke violence, then hide among civilians, so that when retaliation happens, it’s the people — not the militants — who pay the price. When someone like Pep Guardiola speaks out for Gaza, it sends a signal. And regimes like Iran’s use it for propaganda. They show their people, “Look! Even famous Westerners are against Israel, so our policies must be right!” It strengthens their grip on power and manipulates public opinion. That’s why I think celebrities should be more careful. If you don’t understand the local power dynamics — who’s actually in control, who’s using civilians as shields — then your support might unintentionally empower the oppressors, not the oppressed. It’s not about staying silent — it’s about doing your homework before you speak.2 points

Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress, testified under oath during Donald Trump's 2024 criminal trial regarding an alleged sexual encounter in 2006. While she provided detailed accounts of the encounter and the subsequent $130,000 payment she received in 2016 to remain silent, there is no indication from her testimony that she admitted to engaging in prostitution. Daniels has consistently described the encounter as consensual and has not characterized it as a transactional exchange for sex. The payment she received was part of a non-disclosure agreement, not compensation for sexual services. abcnews.go.com+10apnews.com+10lemonde.fr+10 In summary, Stormy Daniels did not admit to prostitution under oath. Her testimony focused on the alleged affair and the hush money payment, without any admission of engaging in prostitution.1 point

In this case, it's odd regardless. They're running a Christian wrestling camp for children and inviting a guy who was very recently accused of sexual misconduct by four different people. That's odd.1 point

Interesting, hadn’t seen that. And of course in addition to the radio silence from the staff, there has also been radio silence from the team and alumni (to my knowledge at least) since the article came out. Mark Hall made sure to make it known that he wasn’t the one interviewed, but didn’t comment on the allegations.1 point

Either trump is a liar who is covering up for a pedophile, or maybe there isn't some crazy worldwide conspiracy related to this case. Maybe Epstein was exactly who we have known he was for a decade, which is a sick/evil individual who was helped to avoid jail by officials in Florida. What makes more sense: a worldwide cospiracy that Biden and Trump are both behind? Or a rich person using his money and influence to get out of prison?1 point

While I think your point about "psycho" behavior being subjective is valid. The point about bad behavior and straight up morally reprehensible behaviors being ignored because they're a "good" coach or wrestler shouldn't be ignored. but your point about appearances is valid. The longer I've been around the more I've noticed a trend of, irascible "mean" coaches running much more clean programs and actually cutting or disciplining bad behavior. The more preachier, "virtuous" I see a coach/program being, the more I find out about them doing the opposite. Not alway, but a trend1 point
-
No but stop protecting people because they are a good coach or wrestler. People ignored Perry and his antics. It happens at all levels too. I know one highly regarded youth coach who was a complete psycho and I'm actually surprised he was allowed around children at all with his behavior. But a lot of his kids won so him being like that meant if you didn't want to be belittled and been subjected to his mood swings and erratic behavior, then you just weren't tough enough. That is more the norm than it isn't.1 point

Worth mentioning that Vincent Robinson wasn't on many people's radars at this time last year and won a title. I expect Cody Merrill to win a title at some point. I think Beric Jordan is an AA threat next year. Other guys I like are Charlie Millard and Pierson Manville.1 point

In wrestling we are particularly given to holding up certain figures in borderline religious, certainly cult-like ways. The wrestling community doesn’t know what to do if it doesn’t have somebody to bow to as the next “gable”. This (apparently, I’m just hearing about most of this stuff this week) leads to narrow, myopic, and uncritical or highly unobjective lenses being applied to lots of situations. Sex-related and abuse-related topics all bursting forth at once smacks very much of a broader issue of a lack of accountability or standards maintenance as a community.1 point
-
This is the most tired and trite of simultaneously defeatest and enabling comments you can make. It’s a wrestling specific issue in that this is a wrestling forum and we are talking about wrestling, and we care about the continued health and safety of the sport, and all athletes therein. The excessively physical nature of the sport needn’t be expounded upon, but respecting and protecting the physical wellbeing of your opponents is a fundamental tenet of the sport in a way that is extremely rare in sport. I’m pretty sure that is self-evident though.1 point

They’re all *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*ty, sex-based or sex-adjacent issues of power dynamics, all of which got covered up, swept under the rug, or otherwise ignored or minimized by other responsible adults, oftentimes for years even decades. The issue is that many of the people who were committing these acts, hiding these messes, or sidestepping responsibility for being a responsible adult are people who have been lionized as a considerable part of modern wrestling lore. That is all the same issue, and it is not a small one. The fact that in the span of a month Snyder’s situation went from “oh nooo bad bad bad” to “[shoulder shrug] eh, not much to write home about all things considered” is the big whiplash aspect of this.1 point
