Yeah, I'm 100% for due process. I'm saying, even if nothing happened, it's strange that Starocci, Cael, or PSU Athletics haven't said, "hey nothing happened" or at least, "we take the safety of our atheletes seriously and are looking into it"5 points

Giving new meaning to French Kiss is this story from The Athletic: "The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has cleared French Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus of an anti-doping rule violation after judges accepted the contamination was due to kissing her former partner. Following an in-person hearing at headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland in March, CAS issued a verdict Monday saying its judges accepted Thibus’ contamination was due to kissing her then-partner over a period of nine days who had been consuming ostarine without her knowledge, dismissing an appeal made by WADA which sought a four-year ban for the French athlete." CAS clearly gives extra points for creativity and originality leaving me to think Aaron Brooks wasn't trying hard enough.3 points

One of the claims is provable. Bartlett would have to be an idiot to say there's a group chat with nonconsensual athlete nudes posted in it. If that was made up out of thin air, everyone in the group chat could prove him wrong. But I guess stranger things have happened.2 points
-
Now what idiot started this trend in wrestling forums? Do they think by charging wrestlers and fans a fee to participate in an online forum is going to grow the sport? Just another example of pizz poor management in a sport that desperately needs building talent to grow wrestling. Those in place now are frail and weak at a time when wrestling talent out high school is at its peak.2 points

Let me throw an alternative interpretation out there. It is only odd if what Beau and Syd Bartlett said happened did happen. But what if none of it did? What if the reason Starocci was not caught on camera with the stolen items is because he did not steal them? What if they were never stolen? What if Bartlett made that up? I understand that there are a lot of other reasons he would not be on camera with the items even if he did steal them, but we have to consider that one possible reason is that there was nothing stolen. Starocci is not likeable at all. Bartlett is very likeable. We want to believe Bartlett. But what if he is making this stuff up? I admit that given what we have all seen of Starocci's behavior it is not hard to believe everything Bartlett said happened did happen. But what if it didn't? Might that also explain why the university has said nothing too? I had a high school chemistry teacher who told a long rambling story (like this post) about someone who had been lied about going to anyone who would listen to explain their innocence, but it only created more doubt. The point of her story was to say, "your friends don't need it, and your enemies won't believe it" and IT is an explanation. Now I am not saying nothing happened, or that Starocci is innocent of anything. But I am saying we need to leave room for doubt. There is a great book by Chuck Klosterman called "But What If We're Wrong: Thinking About The Present As If It Were The Past" that explores the idea that even what we are certain of today is the truth, we may come to find in the future was not.2 points

Let's look at the arguments when the 14th amendment was being drafted. https://mylegalwriting.com/2025/01/22/repost-birthright-citizenship-and-the-fourteenth-amendment/ Of particular importance to the Fourteenth Amendment’s citizenship clause was the phrase “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” which limited citizenship to children whose parents owed allegiance to the United States. Mere birth within the United States was not enough, since this would extend the privileges and immunities of citizenship even to the children of visiting diplomats or other persons having no kinship with our country. Senator Jacob Merritt Howard, who introduced the amendment for debate, explained as follows: This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. Another way of phrasing the function of the “citizenship clause” was provided by then-Senator Reverdy Johnson, who observed: Now, all this amendment provides is, that all persons born in the United States and not subject to some foreign power – for that, no doubt, is the meaning of the committee who have brought the matter before us – shall be considered as citizens of the United States. . . . The Supreme Court also took note of the limited reach of the “citizenship clause” as follows: The phrase, “subject to its jurisdiction” was intended to exclude from its operation children of ministers, consuls, and citizens or subjects of foreign States born within the United States. Slaughter-House Cases, 83 U.S. at 73. So the understanding at the time the amendment became and amendment, it was that children of foreigners that were born in the US were not citizens by the 14th Amendment. The clause which states, "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, meant that non citizens having a child in the US did not make the child a citizen. This was part of the original arguments and understanding at the time. This coincides with Trumps EO regarding birthright citizenship. It seems clear that this is what the framers of the amendment understood. mspart2 points

Wrong champy camp. But the point still remains, Starocci is still out there teaching at camps and repping PSU wrestling, which is a little odd.2 points

The story seems to have been spiked at least for now. Stuff like this spreads quickly through the mainstream & sports media, but there hasn't been very much about it in the news. Starocci was also at the Camp of Champs clinic last week. Dunno if Bartlett (I assume not) or Lovett or anyone else was there. Not even a statement from PSU Athletics denying or that they're even investigating the charges. The quietness is kinda strange2 points

Because it would open the door to their own implications. You agreed with it above, the things they would rather have happen than risk their own individual power.2 points

They aren’t going to be released for a very long time. It’s similar to what Trump said to Joe Rogan regarding opening some of the JFK files, against his people’s wishes, before stopping. Too many people still alive that would be harshly implicated. There’s been a number of administrations, both R and D, since Epstein was very first charged. That information is not going to come out for a long time.2 points

I haven't heard any more news but the evidence seems clear from transfers and coaching hires. Most prominent benefactors from the closure in a personnel sense: Kent State The Golden Flashes hired Josh Moore from Cleveland State as their new head coach and siphoned off four wrestlers from the Vikings. Cleveland State departures that I have seen confirmed are as follows: 125: Ruben Lorenzana (Kent State) 133: Nick Molchak (Kent State), Peyton Costa (Clarion) 141: Ethan Mitchell (Glenville State) 149: Dylan Layton (Rider), Andrew Parish (Findlay), Connor Saylor (Gannon) 157: Reese Stephen (Kent State) 165: Tate Geiser (Edinboro), Connor Holm (Glenville State) 184: Steven Duffy (Kent State) 197: Xander Myers (Ohio State) 285: Mason Cover (CSU Bakersfield) ------------------------------ Separately thought we should honor the All Americans from Cleveland State wrestling past: Dan Carcelli - 4th place - 142 lbs - 1996 David Zahoransky - 8th place - 142 lbs - 1986, 1988 John Ciotoi - 3rd place - 134 lbs - 1979 Tobey Matney - 5th place - 158 lbs - 1979 Tom Cavanaugh - 2nd place - 150 lbs - 1973 Tony DeGiovanni 5th place - 134 lbs - 1972, 6th place - 134 lbs 1973 Frank Yoo - 3rd place - 142 lbs - 1972 Paul Azzaniti - 6th place - Unlimited - 1971 Lee Barylski - 5th place - 142 lbs - 1970 Boldfaced above indicates a division one all-american. When celebrities publicly support Gaza, even if they mean well and are trying to stand up for innocent people, it often ends up helping the wrong side — especially the terrorists in charge. Yes, ordinary people and children in Gaza have suffered a lot, especially from Israeli attacks. But here’s the thing: their own rulers, like Hamas, have done even more damage to them. These groups provoke violence, then hide among civilians, so that when retaliation happens, it’s the people — not the militants — who pay the price. When someone like Pep Guardiola speaks out for Gaza, it sends a signal. And regimes like Iran’s use it for propaganda. They show their people, “Look! Even famous Westerners are against Israel, so our policies must be right!” It strengthens their grip on power and manipulates public opinion. That’s why I think celebrities should be more careful. If you don’t understand the local power dynamics — who’s actually in control, who’s using civilians as shields — then your support might unintentionally empower the oppressors, not the oppressed. It’s not about staying silent — it’s about doing your homework before you speak.1 point

In this case, it's odd regardless. They're running a Christian wrestling camp for children and inviting a guy who was very recently accused of sexual misconduct by four different people. That's odd.1 point

Is CARA still a thing in NCAA sports? It's pretty hard for coaches to require athletes to come in and practice or train at this time of year. I know a coach can "allow" kids to come in during the offseason for "voluntary" practice sessions, wink-wink nudge-nudge, but punishing them for not showing up is a little bit out of bounds. Like I get the hypothesis that Iowa might've been looking for any excuse to let Gabe go, but attendance seems like a shaky reason, esp for a program that allowed an assistant coach's kid to skip out on a mandatory compliance meeting not so long ago.1 point

While I think your point about "psycho" behavior being subjective is valid. The point about bad behavior and straight up morally reprehensible behaviors being ignored because they're a "good" coach or wrestler shouldn't be ignored. but your point about appearances is valid. The longer I've been around the more I've noticed a trend of, irascible "mean" coaches running much more clean programs and actually cutting or disciplining bad behavior. The more preachier, "virtuous" I see a coach/program being, the more I find out about them doing the opposite. Not alway, but a trend1 point

Last week, the coaching carousel continued to turn as two-time NCAA finalist Sammy Sasso was hired by Lehigh and two-time national champion Teyon Ware took over at Northern Colorado. With Ware moving on, Oklahoma will have an opening on their staff. That vacancy should garner plenty of interest with a relatively new coaching staff and a talented, young Sooners team. In addition to the Oklahoma opening, there are still plenty of good opportunities from an assistant standpoint. We also have one head coaching vacancy with Campbell’s job open. Now that we’ve gotten some movement, I think the coaching carousel will only pick up steam. Also, we’re less than a week away from action getting underway in Fargo. Fargo provides an excellent opportunity for networking, so some coaching deals could be struck in the FargoDome (or perhaps the Bison Turf). it's not ad hominen ffs. there's plenty of substance in there. you poptarts aren't thinking this through and want to be outraged. Brooks stated what the Christian beliefs are. Muslims state what Islamic beliefs are. if it's an atrocity, what do you say for yourselves when you scoff at the existence of any higher power? are you telling all muslims and christians they're full of sh!t? wow. what an affront! Muslims: "Muhammed is the true prophet!" Wokesters: "well, that's their belief" Christians: "Jesus is the one true prophet!" Wokesters: "that is an affront to muslims!" Wokesters: "All religion is contrived. simply hogwash" you haven't thought this all the way through, brainiacs. i can't believe you just offended believers of all faiths. how dare you.1 point

you guys have the same energy/hate for the many muslims that say, essentially, the same thing as Brooks but in reverse? the bottom line is that's what they believe. i find it funny that the same class of people that scream inclusion and acceptance vilify people for their words. and in this instance, selectively. did i like the comment? no. do i like when others subjugate my beliefs? no. but to each, their own. it harms me none.1 point
