  5. Yaz will come back next year either at 92 or 97. It's very possible it turns out that way. Even if it is at 92, Firouzpour is a miserable guy to wrestle against.

  10. There's definitely something off with how WS ranked greyshirts from Cornell. Joy is #218 and Cerchio is #188, basically near dead last, despite good seasons where they beat a bunch of top 100 D1 guys. I think it's because they don't get "credit" for last years D1 wins as they were competing for the non-D1 Spartan Combat RTC. It shows Joy as 29-1 but only 3-0 in "real" matches against people in his division. Basically he only gets "credit", and I think therefore ranking credit, for those 3 matches against unattached people who were in high school or not on any team. Cerchio was 0-0 Don't know how it works deep down but it seems like they'd be ranked a ton higher based on last years matches if they "redshirted" for Cornell instead of Spartan Combat.

  11. My family had sushi last evening to celebrate my daughter’s return from a 30 day camp, and an advance on my birthday. I share a birthday with the nation… Today I will play some Metallica pinball and continue enjoying the day with family. I will probably do some mechanical work with my daughter on her jeep before the evening… something I enjoy. Keep talking about cheese… maybe I can try something similar.

  12. Too bad they couldn't figure out how to correctly rank Ivy greyshirt freshmen. For instance, at 149 Jaxon Joy (who went 29-1 last year) pinned Hibler. At 165 Louis Cerchio (who went 29-6) beat Myers and majored Taylor.

  13. Happy Independence Day!!! block party every year. lots of great people. lots of great food. We have a special Star Spangled Banner singer every year around 830 and start the big fireworks just before dark. parachutes and firecrackers for the kids before dark. a few bottle rocket and roman candle fights for the adults... sometimes... depends on how many libations sparklers after the show for the kids.

  14. Coming from Muslims or not (and I'm sure you know all of them) Brooks' comment is horrendous. I am a Lutheran (as far from the far right loonies as you can get). It is disheartening how Brooks comments (and the thinking of the far right Christians) denigrate the Christian religion. Acceptance, love, treat others they way you want to be treated... all that stuff, is lost in the verbage Brooks and his fellow right wing Christians use and live by.

  16. I will try to clear this up: Someone asked why Brooks is considered to be an ahole BigRed made the billion Muslims remark as an example of why people would not like Brooks. Many Muslims and non-Muslims did not like the Muhammad comment, and also don't like his general preachy quality (especially when coupled with his mess-ups and criticizing other religions). Willie thought he was saying the hate is coming from Muslims, when they make small population of American wrestling fans, which would make no sense. To me, BigRed appears to be using the Muhammad comment as an example of how Brooks rubs many people (of all religions) the wrong way, which is why some people would consider him to be an ahole or hate on him. Either of you can correct me if I am misunderstanding your perspective.

  17. It's summer and going outside during the day is not a thing here. So here's several, well thought out reasons why a zombie apocalypse would be doomed to fail. If we're to believe that zombies are the undead, they are basically decaying meat sacks that are mobile. This doesn't make them immune from hazards or conditions. Like the weather. Because zombies would presumably lack the protection we have as living people, they would decay extremely quickly and dry out in extreme heat or would freeze and break down in extreme cold at a cellular level. Zombies also can't recover from damage. If one of their legs rots or breaks off they are much less mobile. Or if other things rot or break down, they have no way to fix it. Then there's humans. We're the apex predators of the world, and not because we are especially tough or anything, we have technology and have hunted animals to extinction. In order to feed/reproduce zombies have to go heads up with humans every time. It would be like if you wanted to eat you had to fight a tiger without weapons. That and biting people is a pretty bad way of spreading a disease, because it wouldn't take long to figure out who it is and shoot them in the head. Then there's nature. Besides humans, there are tons of dangerous animals out there who would love an all you can eat buffet walking towards them. And not just things like bears and wolves, tons of insects that wouldn't be impeded by defenses the living have would eat away at zombies. Also physical barriers. Zombies aren't the most self aware, so naturally occurring hazards like steep cliffs, rivers, lakes and other hazards would cull them. Getting into urban areas have similar hazards too, which brings me sort of full circle.... Humans are absurdly good at killing things. In this country alone we have several million members of the military, all of whom have at least basic marksmanship training. Then we also have several million law enforcement officers, them civilians who are hunters or own guns. Now imagine what would happen if we declared unlicensed open season on zombies? We'd be lucky if there were any left after lunch. We also have tons of weapons that if we decided not to send soldiers out to pick them off one by one, we have missiles, mortars, bombs, combat aircraft, etc that could kill hundreds at a time if they were clustered together. So this is why I think zombies wouldn't be a problem.

  22. Thanks for that. Just saw Azarpira beat Bazri to make worlds team, I really have high hopes for Azarpira medalling this year at worlds but it will be tough. I'm just surprised it was such a close match (3-0). Is Bazri really that good or did Azarpira wrestle poorly? Bazri seems to have quite a lot of support within Iranian wrestling circles like Goleij and Babaei but I never considered him to be a contender for a worlds spot. I know he is a junior silver medalist but he is 27 and hasn't really impressed apart from that. It doesn't look good for Azarpira imo especially 2 months out of worlds.

  23. I haven't heard this interview, but I would think it highly more likely that a Christian chanting "walk on water" would be referring to Peter and not Jesus. When Peter kept his eyes on Jesus he was able to walk on the water. When he started looking at the waves and wind he lost his faith and began to sink. In that context I would think "walk on water" is shorthand for keeping your eyes on Jesus and not fearing the "wind and waves" of your current trial. See Matthew 14:22-33

  32. No. Every professed christian thinks christ is the only path to salvation. Despite it being an odd time to blurt it out, his statement was tautological, and no thinking muslim would be offended by it. Again the outrage is political in nature, not religious.

  37. If the U.S. really wants to take meaningful action to pressure the Islamic Republic, it should identify all Iranians who have previously collaborated with the regime — as well as their children who are now living in the U.S. — and kick them out of the country, hard. Some of them might be speaking out against the regime now, but only because it serves their own interests. That shouldn’t be the measure. Anyone who was even for a moment a cog in that machine of repression and killing should be deported straight back to Iran. It wouldn’t even be hard — the FBI and other U.S. security agencies are more than capable of identifying them. That’s what real sanctions look like — not punishing ordinary citizens, who actually oppose the regime.

  38. My apologies for wrongly thinking you were defending what you originally wrote, when it was BAC who wondered where all the hate came from. Everything I wrote still stands if you correct the references to you. You don't think that Muslims would take offense at Brooks' calling the Prophet Mohammed a false prophet? And you still think that was just a "quip?"
    1 point
  39. No it wasn't. It was in response to you wondering why so many think he's an a-hole.

  40. Here's your post to which I replied. Note that the word "hate" doesn't appear in your post, but there's another descriptor that appears a couple of times. I highlighted it for your convenience. I have to say that your use of the word "quip" to describe Brooks' insult of the Prophet Mohammed and his followers to be, uh, interesting.

  41. Adam Arkhiev who lost to Khorramdel last year at u20's had a very good Russian nats. He was beating Abasghadzi in the second. Seemed to get tired because of the physicality but it is a very good gauge about where Khorramdel could be. Abasghadzi lost to ibgragimov but both guys feel like bronze medal threats to me at 65kg.

  43. Power dynamics always trump claims of consensual. The SOU situation will also be painted as consensual by the accused (assuming they accept the relationship at all). It’ll be the only credible claim considering evidence like texts etc.

  44. I've heard things but it doesn't sound like the Moorman thing will get out because it's mutually assured destruction. King doesn't want to sully their reputation and if they did they'd have to throw him under the bus. Unless Caitlyn hadn't spoken up, it's doubtful many people would have known what happened at Southern Oregon, so a highly successful coach like Moorman leaving suddenly with no warning to end up coaching at a club team definitely isn't a good look since that is exactly what happened at Southern Oregon. As far as what Perry did/is still doing, even though the other person was of age, or multiple people, that is still a violation the same way the situation at Southern Oregon was. Add in that it caused numerous problems because it was a badly kept secret, and made the environment so toxic nobody wanted to be there anymore. It should be pretty telling that he's trying to become a real estate agent now and nobody anywhere wants him as a coach.

  46. Look at all the people making excuses for a guy who tested positive twice in less than a year...
    1 point
  47. Which one? I think most of this is pretty common knowledge. Perry was shacking up with one of the wrestlers he was coaching, while being married and that relationship poisoned a whole program and made things very difficult, and caused pretty much everyone to leave and cratered an RTC program. I can only guess at what Moorman did to get himself removed even if he did resign to coach club wrestling in Texas. The situation at Southern Oregon is pretty open, considering the victim went public and called out her abuser who quit before she could be fired and left the team on their own. This is just scratching the surface.

  48. The alleged victim has made a statement on their FB feed. It’s public. the university has removed the entire coaching staff from the online roster of that particular year. One of those assistants is either a victim too or complicit according to the victims statement. The accused is posted scripture now after a year since being fired. Fired right after being the first woman to HC a team to a championship

  49. Two years younger than "freshman phenom" Josh Barr!! Freshman Barr is actually older than his junior teammate Levi Haines. Barr certainly earned his last name because he is old enough to legally enter a bar as a freshman. He is a very religious young man, so doubtful he partakes in the same libations as fellow Michagander Braeden Davis.
