  2. I think AJ's always been religious. The only thing that's changed recently is he no longer believes that he's God.

  7. If Ryan gets canned before Bono, I will riot. The entire state of Wisconsin is putting out the best in-state talent EVER and he is the reason why they won't go there.

  9. It was nice of you to prove @VakAttack's point. Iowa gets dragged over the coals for bringing in outside talent along with just about everything else they do (sometimes by myself, admittedly). But meanwhile PSU brings flips Jayden James, brings in a world champion in Ono, and now Rocco Welsh within 4 days of each other and I haven't heard much if any criticism about their lack of loyalty to the wrestlers that committed to them. A lot of rocks being thrown from the glass house.

  11. Im not nick...but i pulled this from another forum.. This board seems very split up on keeping Tom around or not. This deserves its own thread The damage that has been caused is not repairable under this staff. Nationally we are becoming a joke at developing and it’s hurting us recruiting. Iowa and Penn state boards think it’s comical. The number one recruiting class ever tied for fifth place at ncaas( only bc steveson lost) with only one all American from that class, after being at the program for three years. Top overall recruit paddy 0-2, top 5 recruit kharchla 0-2, top 15 recruit Rotogotzke 0-2, Feldman got noticeably worst. Cannon got the best draw possible and didn’t place. So development is becoming a concern and people are taking notice. Tom Ryan inability to adapt. Has got zero transfer portal guys while every other major program has got handfuls. If you can’t keep up with the times then it’s time to go. On top of that you lose one of your best kids to a team that doesn’t even need him. Rocco’s decesion was not financial. Why would Penn state offer a huge amount of money to Welsh? Ryder may be just as good as him. Rocco doesn’t bonus anyone and his best win is Ed Ruth who he is 1-2 against. Why in any world would Penn state unload a stack of cash for him? Mcennelly is the guy you go after if anyone. I don’t see him losing again honestly. Tom is also getting a reputation as a crybaby. Every time something goes wrong or against them he immediately picks up the phone and gets the quickest interview to Flo. Transfer portal, nil, bad calls in matches, what originally happened with Rocco welsh. He has done interviews on all these things complaining about them. No other coach does that. Then he screamed at the Rutgers kid that he was a coward when he was clearly injured and defaulted out. Don’t get me started on how bad his brick throwing in matches has gotten either. Tom is becoming almost unhinged and a loose cannon. Well if Tom leaves how do you know we can get a better coach? Easy answer it is one of the best paying jobs in all of wrestling. Number four exactly. The top three jobs aren’t opening up anytime soon. A job like this only comes around once every 10 years. Snyder, Burroughs, Dake, Lee. If any of these guys ever wanted to get into coaching this would be the biggest payday they could get for the foreseeable future. While a guy like Schwab has done great I think you need a youth movement to really attract the recruits like David Taylor did. Not to mention Ohio state has a world class facility. So we have two choices put new life and energy into this program soon or let it slowly fizzle into a team that won’t be in the top 10 anymore. While our days of winning national titles are over with Ohio state can still be much more competitive with the right leadership. EDIT: Now theres rumors of Feldman leaving too.

  12. It’s too over the top to be real imo. Felt cartoonish. He is kissing azzes in the form of praising psu. I don’t believe that for a sec. He is selling that he is “sellable” and wants a jersey shore nil bag….. and he will get one in all likelihood from someone. I remember in a management class in business school. You can change who you are in the short term. In the long term you will always go back to the real you.

  13. The problem is that the courts seem to be repeatedly ruling in favor of "athletes rights." "Athletes rights" are not conducive to parity. The NCAA and most member schools preferred the old way, but there is not much that can be done at this point...

  14. Wow all this without Penn State taking any active steps! Crazy. Just pure love of State College.

  15. The worst was his challenge in a match they were winning, and the challenge resulted in losing points and eventually losing the match. That might have been the most active negative I've ever seen from a coach in a wrestling match. If he just skips work that day Cannon beats Fish.

  18. Iowa and Michigan get bad raps for always having transfers, and they often do, but for the most part their transfers are grad transfers or guys that hit the portal when their coaches left (Franek & Caliendo leaving NDSU because Kish took the OU job, for example). Penn State still holds the title for most obvious poaching job in all of college wrestling, after Minnesota coached Aaron Nagao up to a great season and a 5th place finish, followed by being offered hundreds of thousands to transfer at that very NCAA tournament by some booster, and jumping ship. PSU doesn’t do it as often, but are the most blatant poachers out there when there’s someone they want. Call me bitter because he was poached from my team, idc. It’s still what happened. 20. It's like theynfelt Taylor make a slight move and then just grabbed Ono, flipped James, and poached Welch (over one of their big guns). Insane.

  22. "Is the NCAA under any obligation to provide a level playing field..." it was. and it did. until a bunch of bone-headed nancies cried that players participating in an optional activity while getting free effing everything were being exploited. so a bunch of freedom fighting lawyers took them to the supreme court. and now you got what you got. bunch of absolute idiots.

  24. I asked a similar question earlier about post-college success of “PSU room guys.” I was honestly curious. I can’t think of any guys that weren’t consistent starters at PSU, did not transfer out and then had post-college international success. So I’m more just arguing that claiming “these guys care more about Olympic medals than NCAA ones” hasn’t really worked out for guys that couldn’t start at PSU but didn’t leave. I could certainly see the Barraclaugh route however become more frequent. Spend 2-3 years at PSU to get as good as you can be, then go elsewhere for your last year or two so you can get on the podium and as @Dogbone said, potentially parlay that into a coaching job if that’s what they’re interested in.

  26. US Open is our WTT qualifier and I don't think Ono will be changing his athletic nationality. He can compete in the Bill Farrell.

  27. NCAA athletes have wanted to be treated like pros through all of this... get paid, unionize, etc. If that is the route, then the NCAA should be able to act as the NFL in this scenario and enact things similar to rookie contracts, salary caps and competitive balance.

  28. There's no point to prove here, and I'm certainly not trying to get into any manipulative word games. The only point is that each of these kids is their own individual kid, with their own ideas and aspirations and what is going on inside their head and heart, all of which you and I and 99% of others on this board have absolutely no idea of. If you go back and actually look at what I said without trying to be argumentative, it may be a little clearer: people are wondering how Penn State is able to stack these kids in a room when they could be AA's elsewhere; the language, and philosophy, and culture that comes out of that room....both coaches and kids....is that it is about more and bigger than the NCAA's, in competition and in life. Which led to my post that you had an issue with....maybe we should acknowledge there may be some truth to that. It is not up to you or I to decide what is best for the lives of kids we don't know. It may make you feel better in your own brain, but it is no factor in the matter.

  29. Like six months ago people were saying what a great coach and mentor Ryan was after getting Sammy Sasso back on the mat. Then tOSU finishes in the top 5 (2nd behind the big 3) and a bunch of folks start freaking out. Fans need to take a deep breath.

  30. It seems like Logan has done well with Mendez. Not sure about other lightweights (McCrone, Bouz, Cannon). Similar to Iowa, programs like tOSU really do need to build up their RTCs. Anyone who can convince a pair like Dake and Snyder to move their training grounds is going to benefit big time. However, inserting these guys directly into a major coaching role doesn't seem like the right move. Burroughs might be the exception.

  31. PSU fans really bending themselves in a pretzel trying to distinguish Iowa's poaching from their own. Deal was done before he entered the portal = poaching. "No babe, its not cheating because she threw herself at me, what I am supposed to do, tell her I like me situation at home, not possible"

  32. But instead of guns they are using brief cases full of money. 5 years ago, you couldn't take a meal, 10-dollar bill or free t-shirt without violating NCAA rules.

  33. They tried with Parker Keckeisen after his Brooks loss in the finals, as well. He stayed loyal to UNI, so they went with Truax.

  35. holy guacamole. You leave the boards for an entire day and look what happens. Anyways, if Rocco and Ryder are both at PSU, that makes the "path" to the championship finals that much easier, right? Which also means potentially less points to be had by other teams. What if Kale's grand plan is less about getting 10 individual champions and more about getting everyone else to zero? Oh, the calamity!

  37. Your chart does show how over seeded everyone is compared to the BIG. A lot of that is thanks to conference placement being a factor. With the rosters being set to 30, Penn State could only field 3 teams so the worst conference placement would be 3rd, leading Penn State to be over seeded. Penn State might win three team trophies but would be performing worse than seed so Penn State would be a disappointment causing fewer blue chips to want to go there, leading to Penn State winning the team title by only 30 points or so most years. Penn State only conference = the eventual downfall of Penn State wrestling.

  40. I have a friend in the Bahraini embassy who says PSU is working on a student visa. No idea who that is for.

  41. I think the point is. Posters give Iowa and Michigan a ton of grief about the portal and paying athletes. The jokes about bobs bags of cash are plentiful. Psu gets 0 grief and is doing it just as much if not more.

  42. I'd say Hamiti to Okie St for most blatant, but Nagao was obvious. The most insulting part to our intelligence was people online pretending it was Iowa offering hundreds of thousands and PSU basically offering a gift card to TJ Maxx.

  43. The only person who has mentioned Iowa is you , not me. Look, this is a classic Lance Armstrong situation. Everybody else is cheating, talking to kids, trying to poach, EXCEPT Penn State. They're dominating the other dirty poachers while also not actually even paying that much money or poaching at all, just like great American hero Lance Amrstrong dominated the dirties sport in the world clean as a whistle. ...because he's potentially an upgrade. He's a national finalist. Honestly the lengths people will go to to just give them the benefit of the doubt...

  44. 1) I think Ryder is here to stay because I think he has more international dreams and believes PSU is the best place for him to succeed which he’s probably right 2) My school just f*****g blocked flowrestling and I’m pissed 3) I think I’m one of the only ppl in my school that uses Flo but I’m pretty sure I spent so much time on it that they blocked it 4) Idk just wanted 4
