  1. Good for the sport to see Kentucky wrestling having some success, Spencer Moore & Stephen Little looking to have great tournaments and Bellarmine will be the first Kentucky school at the ncaa tournament since the early 80’s I believe.

  2. Having watched and now gone many times, I think the session rank is pretty clear, but I'll hear from others. 1. Session 4 (Semi/blood round) 2. Session 6 (Finals) 3. Session 3 (Quarterfinals) 4. Session 2 (Round 2) 5. Session 5 (Medal matches) 6. Session 1 (Session 1)

  3. There is NO doubt the Semi's/Blood round are the best, however --- the excitement of getting to the arena on Thursday morning for the 1st session is by far higher than any other round!

  7. I rarely watch ESPN these days because of the outlandish hosts/personalities they have, but I greatly appreciate the coverage they give the sport every year during Championship weekend; including battling against March Madness.

  9. Neil Erisman. As a freshman in high school, he was already a force at 145lbs. My alma mater had a successful senior wrestle Neil at a tournament. After watching Neil's first match, I was surprised at his skill and thought Neil could beat our kid... but... strength against a senior?... Neil was in complete control and pinned our senior like he didn’t belong on the mat. Who is this kid? 20 years later he is coaching Little Rock into something legit. The team is making noise where people least expect it. Kudos to Erisman and the team!

  10. Gable and it is not close. Snyder took a loss to coon as a senior. Had to come back late and beat gwiz. Steveson would be a really bad matchup for Snyder I think.

  11. Starocci - nobody should get 5 changes to win the national championship when there are only 4 years of actual eligibility for most everyone else. it is happening but I don't have to like it. mspart

  12. My advice: Coat your stomach with a cheesesteak and 4 ibuprofen before you go to bed Friday night/Saturday morning. It's not going to get you up for Session 5, but it should help with the hangover.

  13. A+ on the use of balderdash (F- on spelling). Balderdash holds a special place in my heart. I was doing an interview and I was about to say "bullshiit". The B was locked and loaded, and half way down the barrel, when I though better of swearing and I with an awkward hitch I said "balderdash". The next day, a writer I have always loved picked up the quote while also using my name in his article. I can now die a happy man. And I am convinced it was for the arcane word choice.

  14. All rounds are excellent, but it may vary based on who your primary team/wrestlers interests. For top 10 programs with returning AA's the quarters on may be the "best." For fans of teams building to get AA's and some NCAA wins, day one has as much or near as much of the interest and excitement. For fans of teams with no finalists, finals may not hold quite the same level of interest.

  17. Like setting up the beginning of your adult life with a financial windfall in return for doing something you have trained your entire life for and in all likelihood will come to an immediate end the fourth weekend of March? Oh the humanity. Clutching my pearls thinking of all the young adults who simply want the ability to pay off their student loans and save for home prices that are completely out of reach for an entire generation entering a workforce that is wholly not hiring recent graduates with no work experience. /insert right hand wanking motion and dismissive eye roll

  18. Babylon Bee: Federal Judge Orders Astronauts Be Returned To Space Station U.S. — A district judge has issued a ruling saying Trump lacked the Constitutional authority to pick up two astronauts who have been stranded at the International Space Station for several months. SpaceX has been ordered to return the astronauts immediately. "I will not stand by while Donald Trump abuses his power like a dictator," said Judge Earl Flanders in his ruling. "Trump has no authority to pick up these astronauts, and I can say that because I'm a federal judge, and no one is allowed to argue with me, and everyone has to do what I say." Eyewitnesses say the judge then donned a Keffiyeh and spray painted a Cybertruck while screaming "Black Lives Matter." Sources in Washington say Trump plans to brazenly ignore the lawful order and bring the astronauts home anyway. "This is just the kind of wanton lawlessness we should expect from a dictator who is literally Hitler," said one legal analyst. The SpaceX craft docked at the ISS on Sunday and was preparing for the return journey to Earth when the orders stopped the process short. "Please bring us home, I just want a cheeseburger and a nap in a horizontal bed," said one of the crew. At publishing time, Trump was polling at 100% approval among the stranded astronaut demographic. https://babylonbee.com/news/judge-orders-astronauts-be-returned-to-space-station

  19. There’s a lot of negativity this time of year. So let’s use this thread as an opportunity to say something genuinely nice about a program you cheer against, or are tempted to cheer against. (I have nothing to add because I am happy for all athletes.)

  21. Taye Ghidiali is a prime example of this, and from his own mouth, Scotti Sentes was the one that encouraged him to transfer so that he could be in a better training / financial situation rather than staying at Cambell. Who knows how much he'll be getting for his year at Michigan, but it's certainly going to be helpful in setting up his life after collegiate wrestling is over. Taye had nothing but loving words to say about Scotti and his time at Cambell, and mentioned how important Scotti will be in his life going forward. It's not about an athlete turning on their program, but undeniable beneficial opportunities that can come to athletes to transfer in todays college landscape.

  24. I have followed this pretty close.... from what I have read... Brennan believed he had a medical redshirt coming in 2021...however the NCAA did not give out redshirts that year because is was a free year. That's why Starocci and others are getting 5 post seasons. If Brennan had wrestled 2021 his 5th post season would have been last year. The NCAA either grants the redshirt or it does not. Humphries was declined for the exact same reason - no med shirts in 2021 since it was a free year. A wrestling stat service (nameless) reached out to LR this season about Brennan being ineligible. Somehow he wrestled all season, without confirmation from the NCAA that he was eligible. If he had been eligible by the NCAA this would not be an issue right now and they not have had to apply for a waiver. LR fans have said that Brennan was deemed eligible twice over the season - was that by the NCAA or by LR? The NCAA only grants the shirt once - why do you have to keep checking? WHat I believe has happened (which could come out as wrong later) - is that the LR compliance department deemed him eligible, but the NCAA did not. How the LR coaches and compliance department could assume and carry on business as usual without confirmation of med shirt year from the NCAA is baffling. If the NCAA did grant it, it would be against their own policy (Humphries) and we would not be in this situation of having to review it and submit a waiver. If LR said they did receive that confirmation, then how did they get it and Humphries did not and why are they still having to submit a waiver. To me all signs point toward a LR compliance misunderstanding and mishandling of the situation. But like I said, I could be wrong, but nothing adds up. If he is deemed eligible, we may see a lawsuit from guys like Humphrey and probably others who used a med shirt during the free year. Another year for those guys is another year of NIL earnings and possibly finishing a masters program. IF he is deemed ineligible, then obviously this is a huge mark on the LR compliance and a very unfortunate situation for the program, Brennan and his family. This would also make him ineligible the whole year...now it's another can of worms with LR defeating Oregon State by 4 points for the team title at the Pac12. Also, the only way to go here would be to give the 2nd place pac 12 wrestler the allocation since the Pac12 is guaranteed and allocation. If they give it to the alternate, then you have taken the allocation from the Pac12. Obviously the longer this goes the more likely they don't do anything.

  27. Everyone here knows that I am the biggest Carter Starocci fan so I really only wish him the best but I think it would be really funny to watch pond scum Mineo and the PSU faithful try and defend him after he forfeits out of the tournament, leaves Philly, and writes some boulderdash on twitter.

  28. Do you think Gable has a better gas tank than Snyder? The only college heavy of my lifetime that I think could compete with Gable would be prime Stephen Neal. Size, athleticism, gas tank.
    2 points
  29. Snyder was a tweener who used a combination of athletic ability, IQ, gas tank (compared to other NCAA heavies) and technique to make his (lack of) size an advantage. Gable is arguably better in all these areas and 50-60 lbs. heavier. Gable destroys Snyder in their college primes.

  37. Oh, and the correct answer is "Carter Starocci". A combination of reasons: I don't like the 5x national champ thing, I don't like his abject refusal to say anything nice about any of his competitors, along with his twitter fingers s--t talking, and finally (this has nothing to do with Starocci) Parker Keckeisen represents everything good about the sport and it'd be great to see him finish on top again.

  42. I find it pretty disappointing that Cael basically disregarded any acknowledgement for a former athlete that has been the most notable wrestler of all of the greats during Cael's tenure. I don't expect him to hand over his playbook of how to build a college program, but he could have at least said a number of things that would have come off a lot better. It really just sounded like "David Taylor left PSU and so we don't even say his name around here anymore." If that's actually how Cael's changed his relationship with an athlete that spent 15 years with him, that is really disappointing. I would hope he'd be happy for Taylor stepping into his own program, and just see him as respected competition, not a turncoat.
