WKN and SocraTease -- Good discussion and beneficial to anyone interested in wrestlers being honored. When I first came up with the concept back in 1994, I sat down with Dan Hodge (my first book was "Two Guys Named Dan" in 1976 and we became very good friends) and told him of my plans to create something similar to the Heisman Trophy, to draw more media attention and to give college wrestlers something extra to shoot for. Dan endorsed the idea and said if I named it after him, he would like pinning to be an essential part. In 1956, Dan won three national titles (collegiate, freestyle and Greco-Roman) in two weeks time by pinning all 13 foes. I quickly agreed that pinning would be a main factor. But since then, Bryan Van Kley (who bought WIN from me many years ago) and I have tried to "keep up with the times" by including dominance to mean techs and majors, as well as pins. And we consult with many former coaches and leaders of the sport who are on the voting committee and try to listen to what fans are saying (WKN and JB, in particular) and some of my longtime friends who have been involved with the sport for over half a century. Bryan and I are proud that over 20,000 fans vote on line each year and that all the colleges that have a winner play it up big, both at the annual wrestling banquet and at a football game in the fall, often with 70,000 fans in attendance. And we greatly appreciate our sponsor Asics. The goal was always to make wrestling more visible and to honor those who excel at Mankind's Oldest Sport. -- Mike Chapman5 points

The fact that this dual isn't mandatory and both schools still schedule it is awesome. Low bar, i know.4 points

Fun watching when you don't have a dog in the fight. Thanks to OSU (central) and Hawkeyes for doing this every year.3 points

For LEHIGH, Josh Humphreys wasn't too shabby: ALSO... the Ciasulli brothers (Matt & Seth) were pretty devastating as well. D33 points

Some of the possible semifinals at NCAAs might prove be more exciting than the finals. Perhaps it could be like football, where the matchups before the Super Bowl are more competitive or interesting than the final game. Hendrickson vs. Kerkviliet Haines vs. Hamiti or KOT Barraclough vs. Caliendo Buchanan/Barr/Ferarri (some combination) -------------- Bartlett/Mendez/Alirez (some combination) Keckheison vs. McEnally Shapiro/Kasak/Teemer (some combination) Van Ness vs. Lovett (redux) Robinson/Figueroa/Ramos (some combination)2 points

Plott losing in OT is the only unexpected match on either side. Every other match was a clear favorite clearly winning.2 points

Parco Iowa vs Young OkSt Big freaking cheerleader squad out for the Hawkeyes. Parco controlling head. Young playing edge. Young seems to be trying more. Reshot Parco. Nothing. 30 sec to go. Young generally backing. Second - Y down. Mat return. Parco doing nothing on top. Anyone notice a pattern. Top wrestler doing *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*. No REAL attempt to turn. Young on bottom flat. Gets called for stalling. Parco parallel. Young on belly. Second stall. Ridden out. 1-0 Parco. 3rd. P down. Out. 2-0. RT nearly locked. Parco not impressing. Ranked third??? Young attempts a whizzer / hip throw but no go. TD Parco. Releases. Young backs away smartly with 5 sec left. 7-1 Parco.2 points

You do realize you have called a lot of good posters "haters" lately? This lost any sting a long time ago. Some advice here. Talk wrestling with folks. They all dont hate your team.2 points

That, PSU exhaustion or even boredom with their greatness. Right, but you were basically arguing that there's an assumption any would have won #5 had they been given the chance. I was just pointing out...I don't know if that's true in an admittedly disingenuous argument by showing some of their margin of victories. If Lee wins a title the year before the Ramos loss and that was HIS 5th year or in this case, his prospective 5th year, we'd all say he'd obviously have won. Nobody in that weight could have touched him. Dan Gable... Also, why this is all hypothetical as Parker Keckheisen absolutely CAN beat Starocci. I think there'd be 4-5 bigger upsets in the last decade than PK beating Cstarr.1 point

Who is Ono rolling with in the PSU room? I assume Ono made plans to train at PSU to be near Cael & Casey, and maybe practice with Gilman. But Gilman's gone and Cael, Casey, and Nick are busy with the college season. I'm not sure what he's getting out of training at Penn State that he doesn't get in Japan, aside from maybe getting some folkstyley feels and dodging projectiles coming his way. I think Fix and Ono would be a pretty good match too, mostly because RBY's style is closer to Ono's and it would be interesting to see if it helps him to gameplan against zippy guys who work from space. As for the match, Ono is a boss, but Spencer can win by owning the center of the mat, getting Ono called for passivity, and forcing him to engage. The counterattacks and scrambles will be fireworks both ways.1 point

I replied on the other thread… GAME ON! Sunday sounds good for the draft. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

Not much work involved. Pay the entry fee, show up for the draft, and I do the rest. The hardest part of the whole thing is determining a draft time that is agreeable for 15 people. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

Carter is an awesome wrestler! styles only determine a popularity contest. Winning % has a numerical factor that speaks for itself. there is quite a bit of CSDS in the population.1 point

55.5 is just a ton of points to cover. Not impossible, but you would need a minimum of 6 pins which is hard to do in any dual.1 point

My money says that Taylor promised to not throw any chairs at refs or let his wrestlers kick challenge bricks on the biggest stage.1 point

If Taylor is recruiting him, he must have the skills. or he doesn’t want coaches running around flipping refs off or throwing their shoes.1 point
