So far this morning we are just in between bands, which is a good storm for 30-60 minutes, then clears up...rinse and repeat. Peak weather for me will be between 2-5pm. There have been a couple tornadoes in the area this morning and expecting some more. Decided yesterday to leave the bbq area in place, may end up regretting that decision....3 points

Center is a couple hours passed, but as you can see have a day or more of gusts and lots of rain ahead. Should make landfall in a couple hours just southeast of Florida State, going to cause a whole lot of problems, and on into Georgia. It’s going to wreak some havoc well past Atlanta, and broadened out. She is a doozy. It stayed far enough west it wasn’t too bad in my neighborhood but some areas around town got serious flooding and a couple tornadoes. Tornadoes still a watch through tomorrow night. JJ Chavez (Cornell) went 0-1 freshman year, 0-0 his sophomore year, and 23-6 his junior year, finishing 7th at NCAAs. Didn't wrestle his senior year. (if you want to see what a GR specialist can do, watch the end of his match against Buffalo (listen to the Buffalo crowd briefly yell in anticipation):2 points

Oklahoma was close in 1982. They had three individual champions and a runner-up. "Dr. Death" Steve Williams lost in the heavyweight title match to Bruce Baumgardner 4 - 2. The Schultz brothers and Andre Metzger claimed titles for the Sooners. However, the Sooners finished 3rd in the team standings that year behind Iowa and Iowa State.2 points

Yeah, I remember being a little kid at the State Tournament with a cousin. I had another Cousin Wrestling. This was back when you could go down to the floor, with no security. And anyway, my older cousin is warming up, he's got the guy who...I believe won the State Title the year before and he's on Deck or in the Hole. Hood up, old school walkman. Me and my Cousin chose that time to go up to him to ask...I don't recall the question, but it was one of those REALLY annoying kid questions. Not quite who'd win Superman or Batman, but it was a question without a real answer, but I remember the look he gave us, and he tried to be nice and said something like, "guys...I gotta get ready here, I'll talk later." Anyway...that's are more the types of Questions it feels like Jimmy is asking. The difference is, I think I stopped hounding people and asking those stupid questions when I was ~8 years old, but Jimmy, well, he found intermat forums. So he gets to stay 8 forever.2 points

That isn't what he's doing at all. He was commenting on different generations of wrestlers...2 points

This was sarcastic. Bull was the #1 seed at NCAAs three times (one was the cancelled 2020 tournament), and never made the Finals. Iowa fans said he got screwed by the seeding (facing tough opponents in quarters, etc). For example, he faced Mekhi Lewis in the quarters in 2019. Lewis was the 2018 Junior World Champ and #8 seed at NCAAs.2 points

Winning worlds is actually more difficult than winning the Olympics (at least at Olympic weight classes). The Olympics is thought of as having more prestige simply because it has a much wider audience. Aside from more medals, what JB has on Smith is that he won a number of golds in era of only six weight classes (Smith had ten) and after the fall of the USSR. Of course, winning six straight has an undeniable appeal. At the end of the day, GOAT talk is fun but doesn't mean much in reality. Wrestling a chain reaction, a constantly evolving endeavor. If someone inspires you by their work ethic and by their grit and by their performances, that's really all the sport can offer fans.2 points

Imagine if the Ministry of Truth was controlled Republicans with the power to act on these survey results. 59% of Republican voters favor home confinement for individuals who support climate change policies, except for emergencies. 55% of Republican voters support fines for individuals who speak on the impacts of climate change. 48% of Republican voters think governments should fine or imprison individuals who publicly support climate change science. 47% of Republican favor a government tracking program for those who support climate change policy. 29% of Republican voters support temporarily removing custody from parents who support climate change. Note: these statements do not reflect actual Republican views but are a fictional scenario for illustrative purposes. Change the wording from Republicans to Democrats, and from climate change to Covid, and you have real facts. (survey) All the 'reputable news' outlets would follow the official narrative, with no public debate allowed.2 points

Thank you. Seeming to turn out we got pretty lucky right where I’m at. Kept falling in those little gaps you see in the circulation. Whole lot of flooding and tornadoes pretty close to me but we made out good in my neighborhood. Frankly, I’ll take it, haven’t been on the good side of luck when it comes to natural forces in a bit!1 point

Two medicals that he left on the table. We will never know because we only got to see him compete through his Soph season of eligibility.1 point

I would predict Mesenbrink by MD even if Sasso was 100%. Sasso’s game worked great at 149 because he was absolutely huge for the weight. He was taller and longer than everyone he wrestled. He won’t have that advantage over Mesenbrink. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

What's interesting is Marinelli only made the semi-finals once, and that was when he was the 5th seed.1 point
-
Yes, but the tournament was not wrestled in 2020. I fixed the wording.1 point
-
While Marinelli was seeded first three times, one of those times was 2020. So he only wrestled two tournaments where he was the top seed. I found two guys who were #1 seeds three times and failed to win. Larry Zilverberg from 1974 to 1976, and Daton Fix in 2019, 2021, and 2024. There is a possibility I am missing someone as I looked at AA finishes vs seed. So, like Marinelli in 2021, if someone was a #1 seed and failed to even AA, then I missed him.1 point

Little further back but would Brock Lesnar count?1 point

Yeah, if you do that though...every one of the greatest Wrestlers is in the last 10-15 years(maybe 20). You go back and watch the Peterson's for example. Great Wrestlers, but the style and the way they Wrestled, they'd be destroyed today. They scored so much with those diving doubles where they got ahold of the legs and then worked their way up. Just no shot that's working against a Brooks or DT or even Mark Hall. The balance between how dominant you were vs how far the sport has come is why I don't think there's a right answer here(though some wrong answers). I assumed we were talking about greatest American's as I thought it was pretty widely assumed that Saitiev and Medved were the two GOATs all time(though I think Sadulaev is personally).1 point

His questions consistently have an English Class Homework vibe to me. “Now that you have watched Les Miserable, discuss what impacts may be found in related circumstances in pre-unification Hawkeye country. Draw upon your prior knowledge to find parallels between Spencer Lee and Penn State” etc etc lol. I always wonder why he’s asking the question and what he does with the answers. Writing a book? Falling asleep? Who knows.1 point

I don't want a different browser just for this site, using same browser across three platforms. Its crazy that these ads take away functions from the forum. I'd look for a new ad approach. It is very frustrating.1 point
