The DOJ describes our President as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory," and that "it would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him.” Seems like a great opportunity for anyone over the age of 80 to pursue a life of crime.3 points

There is no dichotomy here. Owning a gun and being pro life are not mutually exclusive. If you are pro life you are not using that gun to end lives unless your own or someone else's life is being imminently threatened. I see no conundrum here at all. I think that being pro life means protecting the innocent. Be it abortion, crime, etc. Who's life am I "pro" for? My own, that of my family, then friends, then strangers who have their life in peril because of a perp. The perp does not get consideration since he is willing to destroy an innocent life. I do not carry a gun. I have not found that this is necessary for me just yet. But I would not be opposed to carrying a gun if society gets to the point where I am feeling in danger. I have never shot anyone. I would most likely have a hard time doing so but would to save a family member for sure. mspart3 points

It needs pointed out that Biden has been lying about this too. You can own a cannon. And a tank. And a machine gun and artillery too. It’ll require a background check and a lot of money, but there are people around the country that have them. There used to be a place around here that you could spend your time, and money, firing all sorts of military weapons that were privately owned.2 points

I'll just repeat what I said before, because I hadnt thought of it before but think I'm on to something...the whole "russian" affect of Yianni's stance and style might be the problem. He'd commented in college that he could beat guys but not "break" them like Gabe Dean was doing, and it seemed like a lot of that is down to the Gabe's fakes and hand fighting got a lot more reactions out of his opponents, i don't think Yianni is ever gonna handfight like that, but he could get a lot better reactions our of opponents if he switched his stance up...2 points

I thought this was an interesting viewpoint from a TV writer: https://imightbewrong.substack.com/p/in-hell-i-will-be-forced-to-assign?utm_source=publication-search Of course, there’s also this: If a writer thinks “There are gay couples in real life, so I’m going to make one of the two couples on my show gay,” and every writer does that, then suddenly half the couples on TV will be gay. And on the one hand: Fine with me, I don’t demand that TV demographics perfectly match the real world. On the other hand: The actual share of same-sex households in the US is 1.44 percent. I don’t think there’s a fix for this; I don’t recommend that the Writers Guild create Gay Character Permits and hand them out at the beginning of pilot season. I think that the “fix” is for viewers to understand that writers are trying to craft realistic scenarios, but we’re operating in the dark, and many of us are also writing while high, so please try to cut us some slack.2 points

Can any of you ISU fans give me some insight on what's going on with these two weights? I'm not an ISU guy but I do like watching Casey Swiderski, admire his motor! He's a true Hammer and its strange not seeing him in the pre-season rankings. Looks like they have bumped up Anthony Echemendia at 149 in place of Swiderski. Does anyone have any news that I'm not aware of ??1 point

The Big 12 is in preliminary talks to take an $800 million to $1 billion investment from a private equity fund in exchange for 15% - 20% ownership of the conference, according to The Athletic. The Big 12 is also considering selling naming rights. Allstate is considered the front runner, making the potential future name of the conference the Allstate 12. It is believed the naming rights could sell for nine figures. If it happens (still an if at this point, but doesn't it feel inevitable?) it will set up some interesting conflicts. On the one hand, you have more money. Hurray. Wrestling is saved. On the other hand, you have a new partner, who cares not at all for things like the educational mission of the member schools or money losing sports like not-football/basketball. Uh oh. That the money moves from the conference to the schools and the schools get to decide how to use it, presumably takes care of the second scenario, but no one is better at creatively structuring contracts than private equity funds and hedge funds. As a matter of fact, I could argue that the real value add of private equity has nothing to do with their assets and everything to do with how they structure and finance their assets (i.e. contracts).1 point

Couple updates I captures in my last grid, but did not specifically call out: Nathan Higley from George Mason to Bellarmine. The Knights bring in a guy who was a national qualifier at 149 two years ago as a freshman, got injured midway through last season at 141. And hopes to represent Bellarmine at NCAAs in Philadelphia this March. Braxton Appelo from the Lehigh Valley transfers from Ohio State to Sacred Heart1 point

Yes. The gun is a tool for hunting, defense, sports, and professional duties. The misuse of the tool does not define its primary purposes. The sale, possession and production of fentanyl is illegal, unless authorized for medical, scientific or industrial purposes... yet it is accessible and killed 108K people in 2022 due to misuse. What good is the law? Should fire be banned (burning)? Should water be banned (drowning)? Open gun ownership is a deterrence to the would be criminal, to government overreach, and to other countries that may seek our resources. I'm all for effective policing to deter and punish crime in the city's hot spots. There is not a gun violence problem where I live... so I gain near-zero safety for a ban at the cost of my personal freedom, autonomy, and independence. Taking away my guns will not protect a human life.1 point

Amen to that braddah!! We have laws on the books that are not enforced. In fact mental and legal gymnastics are used to avoid charging someone with a gun infraction. And this from those that want more gun laws. It makes no sense really. mspart1 point

It's a bit off topic, but have you noticed that if a person has an American Flag in their yard, you know who they are voting for?1 point

The ruling was that the bump stock couldn’t be banned using the same law that restricts ownership of machine guns. From the beginning weapons were denied to crazy or mentally unstable people, and that’s the reasoning behind denying them to drug users. Drinkers are only usually restricted if they are under the influence at the time of possession. Somewhere, justice Barrett hinted that nonviolent felons might retain their 2A rights. You probably shouldn’t have to lose your 2A rights for tearing the tag off the mattress. It’s really kind of screwy the way it works. The felons that really shouldn’t have guns, usually do, and the felons that obey the law and never get near a gun, would probably be alright. Laws are only effective if they’re enforced.1 point

I find this topic extremely interesting but like abortion my opinions on it changes like the wind. There are so many shades of gray To clarify: I've never been Pro Life full stop and fully support exceptions like rape, incest, safety of the mother. More struggle with the rest of it. But let's not get off topic. Not trying to derail this specific 2nd amendment topic1 point

Also curious on the weight. For The Citadel it would make a lot of sense if he were to go 184lbs as they have returning starter Patrick Brophy coming back, who has three years of eligibility remaining. https://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/78688/brophy-patrick/profile The Citadel would have three legit potential 25+ win guys 184, 197, & 285 in that scenario.1 point

I think they overturned the federal ban, not state bans. I'm not sure on that but that is how I understand it. I don't think they said anything about state bans. I understand there are 18 states that ban bump stocks. I personally am in favor of bumpstocks being illegal like machine guns. If Scotus says no on a federal level, then let the states do it. Further to the thread, I believe the 2nd Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms. But I also think that that right can be revoked due to psychological issues or legal issues. There needs to be much better enforcement of the laws that are on the books. Those should be sufficient to do what is necessary to keep guns out of the hands of people that will use them for nefarious purposes. Unless of course, they get the guns illegally. Any crime where a gun is used, there should be enhanced penalties and there should not be any way to plea those down or not prosecute. Here in the Seattle area, they don't prosecute thieves and robbers for the use of a gun. At least generally, that charge is dropped. Part of that may be the enhanced 5 year prison term for such use which is WA law. I am for that as well. Hopefully that more fully states my position over my very short response earlier. mspart1 point

I'd assume he's getting poached to the RTC, unfortunately cornell seems to be having problems retaining the big names. Incidentally, yianni could very much benefit from the OSU traditional style, though that seems destined to change. He's said himself that he's not that physical, uses lots of elbows (though they don't seem to work like they used to for anyone), and his motion is kind of plodding and russian, but it seems to make him vulnerable. The whole OSU mongoose stance would probably help his head and hands defense and only sacrifice the physicality that he doesn't really have anyway...additionally he has seemingly every misdirection in the book, so that feeds into the style as well. Normally I'd scoff at someone suggesting such a dramatic change to such an experienced wrestler, but he seems like he's hit a wall, and the great ones can make changes late.1 point

I think Wrestlestat nails what their lineup is going to look like, as of now. 125 - K. Terukina 133 - E. Frost 141 - J. Frost 149 - A. Echemendia 157 - P. Johnson 165 - C. Euton 174 - M. Gaitan 184 - T. Naaktgeboren 197 - E. Bockman 285 - Y. Bastida As far as 141 goes, I think you see Z. Redding push J. Frost for the spot, even spot starting through the season, but we should see similar success from Jacob as we did his twin down at 133lbs last season. I expect Jacob to separate himself and establish himself as a low AA contender as the season progresses. Speaking of Z. Redding, he could also give A. Echemendia a run for his money at 149lbs. I anticipate C. Swiderski will also challenge for the spot at 149lbs. My money is on him, but Echemendia did win the spot last year before descending down to 141lbs. Whether or not Swiderski does win the spot at 149lbs and opts to avoid using his Redshirt until if he gets hurt (which is a wonderful option) late down the line, I do anticipate Swiderski to throw his hat in wherever he can. The same should be said for Echemendia. What I mean by that is that IF Swiderski wants to wrestle and does not 'earn' the 149lb spot, I think it an option or within the realm of possibility that if Euton struggles (which I think he will) that we see Swiderski attempt to give 165lbs a go. At 157lbs, I see a similar scenario between P. Johnson and C. Chittum. That is, if Chittum does not wish to Redshirt. The same could also be said for the loser there giving 165lbs a go. We could legitimately see the loser of A. Echemendia - C. Swiderski at 149lbs and P. Johnson - C. Chittum at 157lbs wrestle-off for the 165lb spot. I had high hopes that we would see M. Rojas enter the conversation at 165lbs but with the results we saw from him last year, I don't think he does, unfortunately. That said, if he is serious about being a D1 wrestler, he will try to throw his hat in the ring at 165lbs as well. That last dynamic is interesting to me in that Rojas and Swiderski wrestled for Michigan powerhouse schools (Detroit Catholic - Amines, Gilchers and Dundee - Davis, Buell) and their senior seasons wrestled as low as 138lbs (Swiderski) and as high as 215lbs (Rojas) before settling at 152lbs and 189lbs, respectively. Of note, both did wrestle up for team purposes nearly their entire careers.1 point

A couple of thoughts: You are right that when presented with two, and only two, choices you often have to hold your nose and choose the "less bad" one. The first two in your list (college resume fabrication, plagiarized speech) are yawners for me. I am not sure what you are getting at about the 1994 crime bill. But if it the mass incarceration issue, at the time it was supported by the Congressional Black Caucus (2/3rds of members voted for passage). While in hindsight it had flaws, it was supported in its day. (https://www.brookings.edu/articles/did-the-1994-crime-bill-cause-mass-incarceration/) Biden's history of racist remarks certainly does bother me. When I voted for Biden in 2020 it was a vote against Trump, rather than a vote for Biden. I felt strongly enough about this that I voted against what I believed to be my economic interests. While I like a tax cut as much as the next guy, and worry about the Democrat's penchant for expanding the government through taxation and entitlement payments, I was willing to take a hit in the wallet to vote against Trump. That I have never been wealthier than at the end of Biden's first term is pretty shocking to me. I know inflation is a hot button topic for everyone, and it is for me. But this is not either a Trump or a Biden induced problem. The money supply grew astronomically under Trump, and then it grew by a similar amount under Biden initially. Against that reality, inflation was inevitable. Rather than putting it on a single politician, it is down to an exogenous shock. Shutting down the economy due to COVID is the proximate cause. Who do you blame for that? Democrats for pressuring for it, or Trump for agreeing to it? Yes. Finally, my third rail is January 6. I cannot, will not, vote for someone who attempted to cause an insurrection.1 point

I read the statement as an attack because the confrontational directive comes before the conditional clause placement. Given your history of labeling, criticizing, and confronting me (rather than my ideas), my lizard brain took the negative directive as the primary message, making the hypothetical condition seem like an afterthought. I was wrong. Sorry.1 point
