Entries have been published, and we can now know the prospective seeds from UWW's rankings for the 57kg and 65kg weights that Spencer Lee and Zain Retherford will endeavor to qualify. At 57, the potential seeds are among the clear favorites, so it's nice to see them separated. But 65 is a joke built on a broken ranking/seeding system, where none of the 4 seeds would be considered a favorite for one of the 3 available slots. Because only 4 are seeded and the rest of the bracket is random, these undeserving seeds leave open the possibility for what we've seen each of the last 2 cycles at 65kg at this event: Our guy in a loaded bracket half and someone undeserving qualifying from the other half. 57kg: 1) Aman, INDIA 2) Dingashvili, GEORGIA 3) Zandanbud, MONGOLIA 4) ?? (no other entrants ranked in UWW published Top 20) 65kg: 1) Sacultan, MOLDOVA 2) Finesilver, ISRAEL 3) Leutert, SWITZERLAND 4) Kudiev, TAJIKISTAN In Greco at 77kg, Kamal Bey should get a seed. Roberts and Coleman won't be seeded. Based on published seeding points/rankings: 1) #5 Gutu, MOLDOVA 2) #6 Lomadze, GEORGIA 3) #11 Kamal Bey, USA 4) #12 Levai, HUNGARY Kamal had a 2023 victory over Levai, 7-3, and a loss to Gutu, 3-3. Projected seeds for other freestyle weights: 74: 1) Chamizo, ITALY (automatic bc of the Azerbaijan euro qualifier debacle) 2) Salkazanov, SLOVAKIA 3) Demirtas, TURKEY 4) Kuramagomedov, HUNGARY 86: 1) Gocen, TURKEY 2) Sharipov, BAHRAIN 3) Ramazonov, BULGARIA 4) Greil, AUSTRIA 97: 1) Thiele, GERMANY 2) Baranowski, POLAND 3) Bajcajev, HUNGARY 4) Bataev, BULGARIA 125: 1) Ligeti, HUNGARY 2) Baran, POLAND 3) Lazarev, KYRGYZSTAN 4) Khotsianivskyi, UKRAINE4 points

I'll never understand the thought process/attitude of completely dismissing the actions that lead up to a reaction and then go WAY over the top criticize the reactions that were brought upon the people themselves...it is borderline narcissistic behavior. Criticize the side that reacts to being attacked. Blame people for unfortunately/inadvertently killing human shields and not the people using a person as a human shield. Blame the cops for making arrests for the actions of the person being arrested. Blame the people trying to get into buildings that are being blocked by "peaceful" protests...blocking a roadway or access to a building is NOT "peaceful" protesting. Blame university policies when buildings get taken over versus the people taking over the buildings. Justify yelling "death to Israel" by claiming the meaning is something other than what the actual words say. SMH I'm all for the right to protest, but will never understand the actual crazy behavior associated with some of them. Most of the protesters have NO IDEA what or why other than it is a fad and they like to virtue signal. And as for the war...Humas brought it upon themselves, and the results of the war and the responsibility should fall mainly on Humas. War is ugly and it is very unfortunate the innocent lives that are lost..I'm sure Israel hasn't done things perfectly in regard to what is "right" in war, but that is why war is so unfortunate and yucky. I truly wish Humas would surrender and the war be over.4 points

They should spend some of this money on some new coaches so in the future they don't have to go out of their way to buy guys due to a lack of development in room. not meant to be a jab at them buying guys I'm hoping they get all of them simply so we have a competitive team race.4 points

Oh, never mind, you're just here to hate and make logically inconsistent statements to get to a predetermined point. "Austin Desanto didn't develop at Iowa" is a wild hater take.3 points

@braves121 - that is disingenuous. That’s like saying …. I know Mike. Mike is having a heated argument with Brian. I don’t know Brian. So I’m only going to critique Mike and ignore all the things Brian is saying or doing that are egregiously wrong. I have my blinders on. Just silly. And for all those that take this stance, it shows a shocking degree of hypocrisy. The folks protesting Israel’s actions should also make clear that the elected Government of the Gaza Strip are evil and deserve severe retribution. But only if they believe that. I’m not thinking many of them do.3 points

That went…, well, let’s just say that the point is, it’s easy to be opinionated in the U.S. and Israel. It’s been relatively easy, until recently, to be Jewish, Zionist or not, in the U.S. and Israel. It’s not easy to be Jewish in any of those countries listed. In discussing the opinions of these twenty year olds on predominantly exclusive campuses, it needs to be noted that they only recently graduated from swallowing Tide pods.3 points

In 1948 the day after the Jewish people were officially put into Israel five Arab countries declared war on them. Ya it’s their fault. Glad to see todays anti semites are ignoring the facts2 points

Uh, ok. Let’s use your logic. The vast vast majority of Palestinians were not born when Israel was created or its boundaries expanded. Thus they do not have a say in whether Israel has a right to exist. Sound good? No, I didn’t think so. You may not recognize Hamas as the elected and ruling government of Gaza … doesn’t make it true.2 points

I usually take a longer forum break after NCAAs and trials, but this topic dragged me back in, lol.2 points

Your specific comment doesn't apply in this scenario. Maybe you could fairly argue that the guys in the Iowa room break down after 5 years, but in the first two? Not really.2 points

I don't really root for Iowa, but it's funny to mention Austin Desantos not continuing to score on RBY in the context of not improving. Nobody in the country improved if the standard is whether they kept scoring on RBY. Especially for a guy a clear level (or more) below RBY's talent.2 points

So because Hamas is only the elected government of Gaza they should not be held to the same standards? Does not need to uphold the rules of war? They have less responsibility to protect innocents? Again, I disagree, completely. You choose not to answer the Q regarding what Hamas expected. You have an idea but you know expressing it would make your case and stance look bad. Your point about the long history here is fair. It is long. And complicated. And ugly. Coming out of WWII new nations were being created, borders were moved, families separated, new governments put in place and mass refugee situations had to be addressed. In all of this, Britain carved out land they effectively controlled for the new State of Israel. Almost immediately bloodshed ensued, many locals didn’t want this and along with many others nearby. They fought to expel the new arrivals and the new government and seemed to be close to winning but lost. In the near decades to follow more wars were initiated by the displeased. Israel emerging victorious each time and often increasing their land area and control. This often happens by the end of a conflict. As does the creation of refugees. However, the adjacent nations refused entry from the refugees, keeping the bottled up, in tight land areas. Israel has fought to exist over and over again. They have dealt with terrorism again and again as well as shelling of civilians. And they have taken harsh measures to protect themselves. They are not saints. I agree that many settler actions over the decades are illegal. I get being pissed about much of this. I get protesting over these illegal, disgusting, and wrong actions. And I think many were starting to look at Israel negatively as a result. But, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, rises to the level of what Hamas did. NOTHING justified it.2 points

Eierman would’ve finished in as a finalist regardless of the school, Mizzou or Iowa. The weight had cleared out and him and Lee were clearly the top guys.2 points

Laughable is to think a bunch of 18-20 year olds have the slightest clue as to the reality of things in life...especially in other countries other than from what they are being spoon fed by totally biased people and media. What's more telling is that THAT is what you took out of everything I said and commented on. Better get back to your protest so you don't have to go to class.2 points

Iowa should really be throwing a blank check at Alirez to get him in the HWC moving forward. A foundation of Spencer Lee and Alirez would be a massive upgrade from what the HWC has had in recent past.2 points

I know several thousand people in Iowa and most of them are not "corn folks". Most of them don't live on farms, nor have many animals other than dogs or cats. You couldn’t pay me to live in Illinois. That state is ran terribly. Shitshow infact1 point

This is not legal advice, and I'm not going to take the time to research even the most basic aspects of the case other than to skim the article. With those caveats, here are my opinions. This is a federal lawsuit. I had federal jury trials in the Central District of ILLINOIS, which I think will be similar to the jury pool in Iowa. There were a lot of "corn folks" and those who were deeply religious on the panel of prospective jurors. They were skimpy with money on the whole. That is a good thing and a bad thing for the athletes. There will be wrestling fans and skeptics of the government in that pool. On the other hand, there will also be the religious who think nobody should be gambling, much less young adults. And even if they win, those juries are notoriously tight-fisted with $$$. But to even get to trial, the athlete/plaintiffs will have to get past governmental/qualified immunity and motions to dismiss. These are huge hurdles in this case. If I represented the state agencies and state officials, I would certainly want to argue that any information provided by GeoComply, a service that the athletes agreed to in their sign-up, could never be poisoned fruit. Anything like that that falls into the lap of enforcement agents (and is not coerced by them) is like free bacon at a buffet. Eat as much of it as you can and avoid the stomach-filling toast. Once the enforcement agents had that information, which they had every right to receive, the article states that "state investigators subsequently had warrants to obtain and search the athletes' phones...." Seems pretty open and shut to me. Still, I have read (what may be wild conspiracy theories) on social media that enforcement agents were walking around on campus searching with electronic devices and computer programs. That would be a much harder question if they didn't get a search warrant for that. I think, though, that those are most likely conspiracy theories because GeoComply would give them all the information that they needed (name of athlete, address, email, etc.) so they could just get a warrant to search their phones. My main hopes in representing the athletes/plaintiffs would be: (1) To have a very government-skeptic judge, so I hope they did some really nice forum shopping to find that judge, and (2) Ask the court to hold that the Draft Kings and Fan Duel sign ups were adhesion contracts. I haven't kept up with the law in that area, but I have always felt that the standard internet sign up provisions that suggest you read pages of small print and click "yes" or not be able to join the site are adhesion contracts. Yet, even if they were held to be adhesion contracts, does that get past the immunity question? Were the enforcement agents acting in the course and scope of their duties, and, even if what they did was eventually held to be unconstitutional, was it within the gray area to which qualified immunity would apply?1 point

They (athletes) don't have a defense because they are the plaintiffs in this civil suit.1 point
