  1. Seth is great at this stuff. i just can't stand that cadence of talking that is ubiquitous on youtube vids. ughh. nails on a chalkboard. why! i wrestled with his oldest brother, Andy. And middle brother Matt was as good as a high school wrestler as i've ever seen. he absolutely torched Darrell Vasquez the year Vasquez won his 3rd or 4th title in CA. watching Matt in practice was so much fun. he was electric.

  2. How weak-minded type is it to create multiple accounts under fake names to put down others and act like you are better than everyone? Talk about deep-seated insecurity, immaturity, and projection...

  3. Stephon Breedlove was one of my first mentors out of law school. I wanted to help the disabled and those who were considered poor. I met him at Advocacy Inc. in Lubbock. He was a great inspiration. He did not let the difficulties of not being able to see distract him. He amazed me with his knowledge of the law; he had to know by reading braille (now considered outdated by technology). The technology we have today has gone leaps and bounds since 1996. He told me about swimming competitions where he had to be hit on the hit to know that he was about to hit the wall. He was very competitive. He loved his wife who was blind also. And she was beautiful. One year, he wanted a good Christmas tree and asked me to help him pick it out so the salesman did not cheat him on an ugly tree. I asked why he wanted to put lights on a tree and decorate a tree. He wanted to repeat decorating a tree like what he had his whole life from a loving family. And he said the lights on the tree make it smell like the pine tree it is. He was a remarkable person and wonderful person.

  5. ONCE UPON A TIME I wrestled in middle school in ILLINOIS. Our family then moved to Texas for a year, and I wrestled for Western Hills High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Not to sound like too much of a Midwestern wrestling snob, but I was varsity as a freshman at the first practice of the season. The big tournament for us was the Metroplex championships, which involved all of the high schools in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. That's where I encountered my first wrestling hero. He was just a kid like me—probably a freshman as well—but he was super slick on the mat, a sensational wrestler, wore a very cool singlet and was blind. Stephon Breedlove is a name that I have never forgotten. At the tournament, I watched all of his matches and rooted for him the whole time. As a blind wrestler, he always started matches with his hands on his opponent. His opponent was also given this advantage. In neutral, the wrestlers had to maintain contact by rule. How did he know where his opponent was going? How did he know where his opponent's legs were? It was an amazing sight. And yet he dominated that bracket and won a city championship as a freshman. I had heard rumor at the tournament that he was a National AAU champion, and that kind of explained it. Recently, I decided to look up this amazing fellow. The University of Texas at Austin archive had an image of a young Stephon Breedlove learning to read braille. They spelled his first name wrong, but this was still an amazing find. Later, I discovered that he wrestled at Paschal High School in Fort Worth before transferring to Fort Worth Country Day, although he also wrestled for the Texas School for the Blind. Next, I discovered that he had matriculated to that very same University of Texas where he had learned to read braille and eventually graduated with an honors degree in Government. He went on to law school at UT and practiced law in Houston, married a beautiful woman and fathered two children. And so, with that background information, I decided to call my first wrestling hero. We ended up having a lot in common—from education to work experience to family—and not just one wrestling tournament in a large Texas metropolitan area. IWB&F&B: When did you start wrestling? BREEDLOVE: In Sixth grade. IWB&F&B: Did you ever wrestle your brother, who was an amazing athlete in his own right? [He is sighted] BREEDLOVE: No. He was interested in basketball. Haha! IWB&F&B: Did you wrestle for Paschal High School in Fort Worth for one year? BREEDLOVE: Yes. IWB&F&B: Do you recall that DFW Metroplex wrestling tournament? BREEDLOVE: Yes. IWB&F&B: Did you have extra help from any coach? BREEDLOVE: Yes. Coach Murph at Country Day and the Texas School for the Blind. IWB&F&B: Where else did you wrestle? BREEDLOVE: There were tournaments in Canada and Europe. Also, there were AAU tournaments. IWB&F&B: What advice would you give to wrestlers? BREEDLOVE: Go straight at them and take them down. [I think he meant it metaphorically, as in don't dilly-dally around and get after it.] IWB&F&B: What advice would you give to wrestlers without sight? BREEDLOVE: Be ready for obstacles and GO FOR IT!

  6. The thing I like about Cayden and Crosby on "Clash of Combat", is that they are the same age and going through the same grind (albeit at the Division 2 level) as the college wrestling stars they interview. So there is a more familiar, casual, sometimes goofy, and candid conversational vibe about it rather than the interviewee acting like he or she is talking to some media figure. It's college wrestlers talking to other college wrestlers and it's pretty unfiltered. A good example was when they just hung out on Real Woods' front porch and shot the shit for an hour. Still, the best wrestling podcast I've ever heard was the multi-part "Wrestling Changed My Life" show where they talked about Northern Iowa NCAA champ Tony Davis' VERY rough backstory in Chicago. That was eye opening, and unique storytelling for a sport that historically has stronger ties to predominantly white rural and suburban locations.

  8. Didn't understand the reference. Googled it. HILARIOUS! Reminds me of a project that I'm working on that some will probably allege is complete bull**** even though it's 100% true. There was a guy from Dagestan named Magomed Islaniev who came to America and wrestled in (some say) about 80 high school tournaments around the country over a number of years. He rented himself out as a ringer. His greatest achievement was winning the 155 and 167 weights back-to-back at the 1985 IHSA tournament. He had to wrestle up a weight so he could change and get back to the mat in time. He died in a motorcycle accident. We're looking for actors to play that part (strong Eastern European accent a must), various 1980s-era coaches (should look comfortable in singlet and t-shirt), and some opponents (looking specifically for Greg Brady haircuts). If interested, call me.

  12. It's OK that you prioritize character over policy alignment and I'm the other way around. Here we have two grossly immoral presidents... I'll go with the orange man whose policies better align with my interests. Please, let's not rehash the gazillion wrongdoings of these two for the Nth shower time.

  15. Does Starocci go with Dake in the room. Crazy that Nolf, Starocci and Dake are all practicing together. Bo and David are quite a bit bigger than Burroughs. Not sure why they feel so tough calling him out.

  20. I want these two to swap weights. I want to see Hensen give MFS a go long-term. I don't think 65 KG is an option for him, then.

  27. Honestly don't know. Mum has been the word. His public appearances have been minimal as well so we can't see his current state. He is a shell at 65 KG compared to 70 KG... so 74 KG is wishful thinking. That said... here is who is out to the bottom side semi-finals (picture attached to show format of last OTT)... Arujau at 57 KG (or 65 KG) Retherford at 74 KG (or 65 KG) Valencia at 86 KG (or 97 KG) 57 KG and 65 KG will be full, proper brackets with the finalist making the following say Best of Three. Meaning if Arujau and Retherford would need to only win one match to make the best of three. 74 KG, 86 KG, 97 KG, and 125 KG have a returning medalist sitting out to the Best of Three. Meaning Valencia and Retherford (if he goes 74 KG) will have to win two to make the following day's best of three finals. Now that I am thinking the method to make the best of three finals, I am thinking 65 KG makes more sense... I still want him in at 74 KG.

  28. the poor guy must have no choice. His style isn't bad for bumping up. He hand fights hard but is not what I think of as physical, he wears people out with fakes and snapping the top of thier heads, as opposed to someone like starocci who spends a lot of time in a deep collar pulling straight down.

  29. I can't believe it took this topic so long to pop up. Nickal's outrage is either based on something he won't say or wanting attention. Then Starocci pops up to remind everyone that he's a very boring villain.

  31. Van Ness didn’t have any fringe losses , he lost to 6th year senior Murin 3x , Gomez ,Sasso and yianni and that was after not competing for basically 2 years , he completely controlled the Henson match last year and the Parco matches this season and last Kasak has unlimited potential and had a great but he took Ls to Abas and Rathjen this year , not exactly world beaters , and I don’t think he’s ready to compete with Henson just yet (I know he beat Lovett but as we know Rich was in full semi slide mode)

  32. The thing is Suds Dubler is 100% real. You can go to the Clarion website and see for yourself. The only questions are whether he is in fact a real person, a disinformation campaign, a Yianni clone or one of the pod people. As for Potatoes McBrewster, they took that page down. Suspicious, no? P.S. If enough of you go to the Clarion website and vouch for the fact that Suds Dubler (i.e. Giant Yianni) IS NOT THERE, I'll know that I'm ******* crazy. Either way, that would be valuable information to have.

  34. Can't add much more that what Idaho said for OSU west I think Cleveland @ 41 is done; he had a great tournament making R12. Have to see how Noah/149 and Olguin/174 rebound & rehab from injury. Yes am hopeful for some help via the portal at some key spots. The other Q is where the team wrestles early march to qualify for Philly.

  37. Using the current method of scoring these are the Top 30 and ties: New to the top 30 this year: Aaron Brooks #10 and tied with Ed Ruth (was #125 prior to this year) Daton Fix #17 by virtue of five tournaments, as you can see he is 125th on a per tournament basis. Carter Starocci #27 (was #128 prior to this year) Also moving up: Vito Arujau was #230, is #51 (tied with Andre Metzger, Rick Bonomo, Mark Branch, and Troy Nickerson) Keegan O'Toole was #190, is #35 (tied with Jordan Oliver) New to the rankings this year: Trent Hidlay #157 with 65 points (Jared Lawrence, Tolly Thompson, Eric Voelker, Chrsi Campbell, Gary Breece, and Rex Peery) Greg Kerkvliet #121 with 69 points (tied with Doug Schwab) Parker Keckeisen #90 with 92 points (tied with Ross Flood, Carlton Haselrig, Mark Lieberman, Chris Pendleton, Travis Lee, and Michael Lightner) I know I will have my detractors here, but I also like to look at their scores in years 2 through 4. You will notice in the table above that when you sort by total you have to go all the way to #30 to find the only three year era wrestler, a little known kid named Dan Gable. In the table below, I also knocked out Gables' pigtail matches for this. Years 2 - 4

  38. The best move a program like them would be to run it how Mark Cody did at American. Invest a lot of resources into a few top 50 recruits who can and will AA, try and score guys in the portal from Ohio St, Penn St and so on and even bring in guys from D2. what I am saying is hire MARK CODY
