Thanks!! This is my first NCAAs. Pretty excited. My son is in kindergarten and started wrestling this year. I wrestled just in elementary through 5th grade.......30 years ago (broke my only bone in my life in 4th grade wrestling practice when my cousin dumped me on my shoulder with a headlock and snapped my collarbone). Up until two months ago I had no idea who John Smith, Tom and Terry, Cary Kolat, Schultz brothers, Snyder, Taylor were. Vaguely new the names Gable, Sanderson, Dake and Burroughs. It's been a lot of fun learning some of the history........finding out about those guys and then it took awhile to find out about more guys.....like Alan Fried.5 points

General information Entry Fee: $20 paid to VakAttack via Venmo The field has been confirmed as follows: Draft: Sunday, March 17, 2023 @ 1:00pm EDT (last year's draft lasted ~2-1/2 hours) Link to Draft Board (I recommend you bookmark this link, as I will make scoring updates after each session in this file) Once everyone is logged into the draft, I’ll randomly sort the participant list to determine draft order. Draft picks will be made in this thread, facilitated by VakAttack (i.e., he’ll prompt you to pick if you’re running slow.) I will log the pick on the Draft Board as it is made. Time to make your selection will be loosely policed at 1 minute. The selection process will take place in a reversing-snake pattern. i.e., the selection order works as follows: Round 1: 1 through 15 Round 2: 15 through 1 Note: #1 and #15 will make two consecutive picks as the order reverses itself round-to-round Each participant selects a wrestler for each weight class (125-285), plus one ‘Wild Card’. The ‘Wild Card’ can be selected any time during the draft process. The penalty for excessive lateness during a selection will result in the pick being skipped for that round, and that pick moved to the end of draft. (VakAttack’s discretion). Withdrawal/Replacement Policy (a.k.a., the "Jerry Callo / Connor McGonagle Rule"): Keep in mind you are picking a wrestler, not a bracket position. If your selection does not make weight, fails skin check, or pulls a Suriano... you are stuck with that guy. If your selection withdrawals from the tournament prior to 5pm EDT on Wednesday, you can make a replacement pick. You need to let @VakAttack and @lu_alum know the name of your replacement pick prior to weigh-ins on the first day of the tournament (Thursday, 10am EDT). Zoom We're setting Zoom up on a trial basis this year, with the thought it may help to move picks along more quickly if folks aren't frequently refreshing their forum chat browser. Zoom is completely optional - official picks will be made/posted in this forum chat thread. If you want to connect via Zoom, send me @lu_alum a PM with your email address & I'll send the link. Scoring All eleven selections (125-285, plus WC) count toward the participants summary score. Scoring will be downloaded from TrackWrestling (data provided using My Wrestlers) at the end of each round and updated/published on the same Google Sheet used for the Draft. I recommend that you create a list with your wrestlers on Track to double check my math. Payout I believe we paid top the top three last year. VakAttack runs the money side of this operation. Suggestions I highly recommend that you open two browser windows. One to monitor this selection thread and make picks; the other to monitor the draft board (follow the selection order & see who is still available on the Draft Board). NOTE: You will need to refresh the thread frequently to keep up with selections being made and avoid missing your turn due to a time penalty. If you weren't already aware, the F5 key will do this. The Draft Board will update in real time. At this point I think 125 participants can't be a part of this thread. No result would be an upset at this weight ha!3 points

I was thinking about how unlikely it is to have two true freshman as the 1 and 2 seed at a weight (125). Then I thought maybe it is not that big a deal if they were already a big deal, so I look at where they were on Willie's Big (Deal) Board. Turns out they came from well outside the top 15-20, which is where most champs come from, if I recall correctly. But Cade DeVos takes the cake for the most unlikely given where he was ranked coming out of high school. At least he has had some time to marinate in the SDSU room.2 points

I have found over time when trying to discuss things with people who do not have the CS factor (common sense) it is nearly impossible to have a productive conversation. It doesn't matter the number of facts you present it goes in one ear and out the other.2 points

While your "if you disagree with me you must be ignorant" argument may be effective with others, it does not move me. How can you raise taxes quickly enough to bring inflation in as quickly as it has come in? In short, you cannot. This is why raising rates, and decreasing the money supply are much more effective for squeezing inflation quickly. This then buys time to work on the fiscal aspects. And the only aspect of fiscal policy I am interested in changing is the spending side, not the taxation side. The reality is that when taxes go up, so does spending. The spending side is the problem. Of course, you can always volunteer to pay more in taxes. I will not object to that.2 points

It's almost like his opponents are mesmerized by him and become offensively complacent. Perhaps they are mesmerized by his beard and/or overall caveman appearance.2 points

Inflation is primarily a monetary problem. Deficits are fiscal and have secondary effects. Taxes are also very hard to change while interest rates and money supply are not. And inflation is already a tax of its own. Raising taxes will make the economy worse, not better.2 points

I know. How can it be annual if it is the first? But here we are. Rules: Pick one wrestler at each weight with a seed between 17 and 33. Tournament scoring. 1 point for a champ bracket win, 1/2 point for a consol win, etc. The person whose "team" scores the most is the winner. Tiebreakers: Score of lowest seeded wrestler in the two teams combined. (if Team A picks all 17 seeds and Team B picks all 18 seeds, Team B wins automatically). The wrestler with the highest percentage of their college team's points. (if Team A has a wrestler from Little Rock who scores LR's only points of the tournament, and Team B has a wrestler from Campbell who scores half of Campbell's points for the tournament, Team A wins). Submit your entries here and I will track. Feel free to change as many times as you like up until Wednesday night. As @ionel knows, I may or may not notice. Awards for the top three, no, four teams. Screw you NCAA, you penny-pinching bastards. Oh, and please ignore that prior sentence, and thanks for continuing to sponsor wrestling.1 point

That's right. The seeds are in. I feel like the NCAA should have Burpee Seeds sponsoring all of these bracket reveal shows. Missed opportunity. Oh well. Now that the seeds are out we can see how they impact potential scoring. And there are some interesting takeaways. Pretty much all of the front runners are giving up a little bit over the final rankings. The March 12 numbers below are based on the final Intermat rankings, while the March 13 numbers come from the seeds. Among the podium favorites only Oklahoma State, Lehigh, and Virginia Tech came out better in the seeds than in the rankings. Arizona State is the clear winner in the matrix process. From only 6 ranked wrestlers they have 8 entrants in the tournament. We see you Cael Valenica and Tony Negron. As the #33 and #31 seeds at their respective weights, we are not expecting much. But, hey, chip and a chair.... Only Ohio State and West Virginia among my top 20 failed to get all of their ranked wrestlers through the gauntlet. The race for second tightened up a bit with the OK ST rally, but it is still NC State's to lose. And it sure looks like Iowa will have something to say about that. I am atingle with anticipation.1 point

It didn't look good. Cornella had to be helped off the floor, guys on either side helping, dragging the injured leg. I've seen miracles before, but I wouldn't bet anything that he makes it to KC. He's still in the brackets (annoyingly on Track, not Flo). Not sure about Foca. Maybe he could have continued in his final bout, but why risk it when he had a qualifying spot locked up and could only score one team point when the team title was already decided. He didn't look much different from Hines, who injured a shoulder in the semis and looked to be in a lot of pain but managed to continue and completed the tournament; different situation, he didn't have a qualifying spot assured.1 point

Interesting topic. The issue for the wrestlers you listed is they have opponents in their weight class who are equally if not better defensively with more offense. For example, 157 - Levi Haines is better defensively than Lewan, 174 - both Mekhi and Starocci are better defensively at this point in their careers, and at 149 Bartlett might be the best defensive wrestler at the weight but it's not so impenetrable that wrestlers like Woods or Mendez can't break through. But to add to your list Cole Matthews, Cam Amine, Dean Peterson, Daton Fix, & Rocky Elam1 point

First time I filled out the brackets I got: PSU 151 (9AAs) NC state 90.5 Iowa 85.5 I then leaned into my Iowa bias hard and took a very pessimistic approach towards PSU and got: PSU 134 Iowa 97 (Teske AAs lol) Nebraska 841 point

He was Juco national champ last year beating former top Oklahoma state recruit Jakson Burks in the finals , his first match for WVU he beat Kaylor who then went and beat Ayala pretty soon after that, he’s a real big 125 and is always trying to score , pretty tough on top too1 point

last year Spencer Lee would have polled in the high 90's and probably been #1. I do not think anyone is above 80% as the competition is fierce, style matchups can be quirky, ther can be an element of luck, and there is always injury risk.1 point
