  2. I think a lot of people argue (just make it a push out point) without thinking about how terrible and inconsistent grounding is called in and of itself.

  4. The "action or automatic stalling call" on the edge is a complete joke. For one thing, we all know its an attempt to have a push out, but pretend its not because of freestyle. Unfortunately it sacrificed the best thing about the pushout rule, its very objective and easy to understand, in favor of what we hate about stalling calls, they are often annoyingly subjective. this rule sucks because: 1) its really hard to call consistently. 2) Refs use it based on the situation in the match and not what they just saw. If you are winning with no stalling calls in the third you're really vulnerable. If you are winning in the third with a stall call, you're pretty safe. Put in a pushout, ditch the stalling warning and all the count to 5 nonsense.

  6. Dan St. John .... never won a HS state title and won 2 NCAA titles Chris Pendleton.... Won one state title....not highly recruited...struggled his first year at OSU and ended up a 2x NCAA champ Idaho... never won a state title or NCAA title... but won a couple of the days here on the board. BOOM!

  7. Derek Moore never finished higher than 5th at the California HS State Championships, but he was an undefeated NCAA champion at 141 for California-Davis in 2007, techfalling the heavily favored #1 seed Ryan Lang from Northwestern 17-2. He also got the Outstanding Wrestler award.

  9. After Iowa Coach Gary Kurdelmeier used Big Bertha (1977) which was a 62'X62' mat. This mat was built because Okie State had a "style" of backing up, backing up, backing up, and then shooting. So Kurdelmeier wanted to keep those Okies away from the oob line, and wrestle! So it appears that this is not a new problem! The NCAA received several complaints and they put a restriction on how big a mat could be. They claimed that not all schools could afford to have such a big mat.

  11. i can't imagine how families afford groceries. the price of food is astronomical.

  12. Wouldn't we need deflation for a couple of years to get prices back down to where they were. Just because inflation has slowed down, we are still paying inflated prices on everything. I was fortunate to have no debt when I retired 20 months ago ( including no mortgage on my house) So it is a matter of living within my means from here on out.

  14. The actual problem with a step out rule (it's not a push out rule in freestyle) is how it would conflict with the current cylinder interpretation of folkstyle. You can't do both. It's when the second guy goes out that OB calls are now made.

  15. Ultimate bragging rights - seriously? NOW you tell me. I won last year and didn't even brag once. Aw, crap. If I try to brag now, I'll just look desperate. Let this be a lesson to this coming year's winner... brag while you can. Don't wait until the end of the 3rd.

  21. This is so very true. The wrestling community really doesn't have a good understanding of how BIG football players are. With the exception of a few defensive ends aside, Linebackers are almost uniformly the scariest guys on the field, both physically and mentally. Keuter is a 30% away from filling into that size. That sort of size takes time, and it takes rest. Also, the amount of homework that football players do every week to be ready for game time is absolutely insane. If you ever listen to the top football guys start talking football with one another, it is another language. I'm not saying any of this to poopoo Keuter's chances. I hope he is able to attain his goals. But...considering that we live in an era where Freshman can come in and dominate at any weight class when they are of his caliber...and let's be clear he was high AA caliber coming out of High School just based on placement alone...his time with football has taken him from that down to a much more mediocre r16 kind of guy. He is good enough at football to get a roster spot on a Big10 team. That's impressive. But guaranteed that his wrestling is having a similar effect simply because he is splitting his year in two, and is not fully engaged in learning and honing his football craft. Football coaches always talk about wanting guys who wrestled. They mean in High School. How many college wrestlers have made it in the NFL in the past 20 years? I know there are more than Stephen Neal, but I can only think of Stephen Neal. I know Lesnar and Coon both bounced out. Keuter's not out there pulling a Gable Steveson in his first year. And last I checked, they didn't pull his redshirt in football so he could go hold down the defense with his unprecedented raw football ability. I just don't want a very hardworking and accomplished young man to fall victim to the whispers of the marketing machine in the Big10 and elsewhere to convince him to make short term decisions that detract from his ability to achieve his highest goals.

  23. Honestly a great program example of this overtime was Minnesota in the JRobinson era. Identifying the type of recruit who works in your system. Lots of guys from Minnesota class A(schools under 400 enrollment) have done well and AA’d or won titles. Kevin Steinhaus, Brett Pfarr, Brad Pike, Owen Elzen, Jacob Volkmann, Chad Kraft, Brad Gibson, Matt Nagel, Tyler Safratowich and Zach Sanders all made the awards stand from small town Minnesota. In addition to that you brought in Tim Hartung and Cole Konrad from Small town Wisconsin. These guys all way out performed recruiting rankings, that is if they were even ranked and many of these guys were not.

The liberal justices had some of the toughest questions against the Colorado Attorney during the hearing . I was little surprised. Even when the judges in Colorado Supreme Court voted on the measure I think it was 4 to 3 and they were all liberal judges. That was interesting.

  35. I've been saying this for years. D1 wrestling lacks true leadership - it truly does. The lazy older out-of-fresh-idea individuals who feel they are influencers in the sport know deep down inside they're mean nothing to these young wrestlers. They're legacy will ultimately be the end of D1 wrestling within 5-10 years.

  40. The problem is that 95% of the season is meaningless, and the coaches have essentially stopped wrestling the regular season because of it. Without the regular season, the only events that "matter" no longer have any storylines attached to them because there were very few prior matchups of significance. There was a huge drop in ratings last year for the NCAA finals, and I expect this year to be just as bad if not worse.

Translation: We never stood a chance. Brands: "I like our guy." Translation: The portal is closed.
