Beau is the nicest most genuine kid. Always complimentary of his opponents. After his loss to Alirez last year at NCAA's he said he couldn't wait for the final to watch Alirez and Woods. He took his lumps for the team and aquitted himself well up a weight for 2 years. Mad respect for the smiling assasin.8 points

https://www.flowrestling.org/collections/12051991-2024-penn-state-vs-iowa-wrestling/video?playing=12067024 Beau Bartlett's interview after the Iowa match. At the 2:03 point he pauses to say hello to someone off camera, then turns back to the reporters and says, "That's Dan Gable, whoa" as his eyes light up. Pretty cool.5 points

No one thought Wally Pipp, one of the best power hitters of the dead ball era, would lose his starting spot to Lou Gehrig just because he had a headache one day. After tonight's Rutgers dual we have to ask, will Starocci lose out to Barraclough? Will Kerkvliet lose out to Cochran? After all Cale has no loyalty to anyone. Just ask Nevills. How did I do @Jimmy Cinnabon?4 points

They are rhetorical challenge bricks. You never get an answer, only the satisfaction from asking the question.4 points

On the other hand, the best I ever wrestled was when I had been counted out by everyone because of injury. And that was my most impressive wrestling I've ever done. I had to relearn how to walk after a nearly fatal car crash and was in a wheel chair in November and won the league conferences in February and placed 7th in states. They even put me on a TV special on the local news for the comeback element (my wrestling on its own was never that level of noteworthy)4 points

Agree, Beau seems like a good guy. Always has something interesting to say. Very high EQ. Hard to hate on him. Nick Lee and Jason Nolf, too.3 points

Iowa's inability to hang on to the top spot at 125 is reflected in their inability to hang on to the projected second spot as Missouri returns to the position after a one month fall from grace. Meanwhile PSU extends their advantage to an expected 62 points. Still short of where the gap stood in the pre-season, but definitely going the wrong way for the field. PSU is getting dangerously close to doubling the second place total again.2 points

All the penn state kids seem so great and genuine- they truly love the sport and cherish their time doing it. They definitely practice gratitude like the new age is preaching. it pisses me off…2 points

Put on your finest singlet and get ready to walk the red carpet. It is award show season at Intermat. Gas up your private jet, sit in your limo waiting to make your entrance, and then be prepared to lecture the rest of us about greenhouse gases. There Is No Team in I Presenting our first award tonight is a man who is all about team. Because he always puts the team first (or The Lord, it alternates) opening the envelope is our very own A.J. Ferrari. A.J.F.: And the winner is...me, I am the ultimate winner. I am number one on each of my hands. But for some reason this piece of paper says @MLB9 and @Dogbone. Who the hell are those guys? Well, they are the Intermat celebrities who came closest to nailing the final team score. At 6-28, they each were within a point of perfection. The Happy Valley Insider folks covered themselves in glory as well. On the flip side, you would have to have been nuts to pick Iowa keeping this one close. And so we have a lobotomized @Mr. PeanutButter tied with a crazy @crzyctldy at the bottom of the heap. But good news, an HVI poster takes the overall "lead" here. Something to work on for next year? Details Matter But before you start with the victory laps let's talk about process. How you got there matters. After all, what is a team score, but the sum of a bunch of individual scores. On that front we have a different set of winners. Take a bow @Perry for having the smallest absolute error across all ten matches. @Interviewed_at_Weehawken takes runner up while @CHROMEBIRD and @Truzzcat round up the balance of the podium positions. Visionaries (aka Know It Alls) Yeah, but too much details is for nerds. All I need to know is who got the most matches correct? This is clearly the most important category by a long, long way. I don't need to do any fancy pants math to tell either. All I need to do is look at the illustrious list of luminaries who got 9 of 10 calls correct. We like to argue a lot on these here boards, but I think there is one thing that is beyond dispute, these dudes/dudettes know wrestling. Back to the Math, NERD Putting it all together. If we reduce all of this to ranks and average the ranks we get a new rank. As rank as the concept of all that math may be to some of you, you will just have to hold your noses as we crown our champion. The straightest shooter among us took aim at, and hit, the bully's eye. Congratulations to @Interviewed_at_Weehawken for being the most comprehensively correct. Now @nhs67, we may need to have a word. Thank you everyone (also receiving votes @Barracuda141, @Le duke, @Eagle26, @Pinnacle, @JimmyBT, @Pish, @1032004, @ionel, @PortaJohn, @VakAttack, @Gus, @TylerDurden, @BIGTENFANBOY, @TheDFP, @fishbane, @flyingcement, @BAC, @Jimmy Cinnabon) for participating.2 points

Now I’m picturing Terry Brands face on Patrick Swayze’s body from Point Break. Who are the coaches who most resemble Bodhi and Johnny Utah? That could really be the making of a great coaching staff for a SoCal team.2 points

Sometimes people look off and fans of a sport speculate what could have possible been the reason for the down performance. Are you new to sports?2 points
-
Another major problem for the Brands is their tough guy act. That act works well when you’re the top dogs but it looks foolish when you act tough and then get your teeth kicked in. A little humility would go a long way. Cael and company come from a place of humility and gratitude. That was the game changer for their program. Making that their cornerstone mindset. Takes away pressure.2 points

It is so refreshing when we can work out our differences in a civilized manner eh? mspart2 points

This is what worries me re: NU. With Ken Kraft gone, what influence does wrestling have at the school? Any decent hs dual gets more fans than NU home matches. Most students don't know the school even has a team. The program is way down and looks like it may be for the foreseeable future. Offhand I can't think of how the University objectively can say that having a team is important, given the schools priorities. All this when just a couple years ago we had multiple AAs, a National Champ, and a top 6 finish. Impossible for me to not worry this may be a way out for the administration.2 points
-
I think adding big ten schools that do not have wrestling gives more of an opportunity for schools like Northwestern or Indiana to drop it, if anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Article mentions Oregon and Washington having programs in the past, but not UCLA. Think UCLA dropped around same time Washington did, shortly after having a national champ, heavyweight Fred Bohna. To answer the question, I doubt we see any of the 4 add/bring back wrestling. I hope I am wrong.2 points

It started as a “cynical” tournament, but after the criticism Dresser did clean it up. And the new MFF rules will further do so. I went back and looked at last year’s brackets and there were some pretty good guys there including some in redshirt. Looks like DeAugustino injury defaulted to Spratley in SV for example.1 point

I hope he asteriskseses his way to a national title.1 point

wtf? Virtually all of the field is banged up in some way right now, it’s just a matter of how well they deal with it. Sometimes, they deal with it poorly and it impacts their wrestling notably, but they keep it quiet bc that’s what you do in a sport that is about folding your opponent into shapes against their will. This is an understood undercurrent to every wrestling season since the advent of the sport. Are you ignoring this and just saying people who have significant experience with the sport are all just tilting at windmills?1 point

I'm letting all of that slide. I don't know about the 'saving face' take... maybe it looks that way to some. Which is fine. I also don't know about any kind of 'getting emotional' and my 'feathers ruffled'... this was just another day at the IMW forums for me. Again, it may look that way to some. Which is fine. For me, the back and forth is routine - I really don't get ever too worked up about it. I am chill but won't back down from offensive online jerks. But still chill all through my replies. A lot of the wrestlers I know are the same way. We have a bad reputation for starting fights - but really, it's just that we don't back down. Confidence doesn't require us to prove anything. Any fights that get started are almost always started by the other guy.1 point
