Was In Gill for set up and Mat side. Had many conversations with the long time PSU radio guy, sports info guy, etc. Watched PSU interact with people. I also sat directly behind the Penn State section at the ncaa. As a big OSU beaver fan, and I speak for most, we appreciated Penn State flying across the country for one match that was very close to selling out at 8,540. It’s a huge deal for Oregon State to host PSU. The PSU program is a class act. Hate them if you will, but they try to schedule 1-2 duals a year for the benefit of another program. Others might call it a weak schedule, I call it the good of wrestling. Besides they will decimate everyone so I’m not sure what a tough schedule would be since they already wrestle in the B10. Thanks to PSU for coming out West.8 points

I think Trey Munoz might have been a big part of the problem, let's give him some credit.7 points

Hopefully finishes his degree at UNCo and moves on with his life. Wrestling is not for him.6 points

Hopefully UNCo gets him some help and he learns something from this. He's no longer wrestling's problem, but could now be society's problem. The kid behaved like a psychopath.3 points

Best case scenario for Northern Colorado in my opinion, is that they settle quietly with the Lillard family for medical, pain and mental anguish, loss of opportunity, etc. before litigation is filed, with subrogation payments to Indiana for the medical they've paid and will pay in the future. Not worth the risk.2 points

Kaleb Larkin is gonna be a problem in a few years, and Chlebove looks surprisingly solid but otherwise ASU is really laying an egg this year.2 points

I hope he does well. And honestly I don't even care if he's actually doing this for football reasons. His stock will improve as an NCAA qualifier, much less AA and could be the difference between UDFA and day 2 pick if he plays well next year. I'm all about our sport showing out.2 points

Bucky, Here is the only backstory you need to know. In the "Creeps in the wrestling community" thread (elsewhere on this page), there is discussion about youth wrestling videographers, one or two in particular, who are perceived by many as shooting and thumbnailing their videos in an overly suggestive manner, attracting the attention of (if not outright catering to and/or profiting from) the prurient desires of a certain unsavory subset of the population, leading to otherwise unremarkable youth wrestling videos having millions of views. Some in the wrestling community have sounded the alarm -- hence the thread -- and pushed back. Various members of the wrestling media, including JB, have chimed in with more context. Several pages in, "commonsense2400" formed an account and started posting in defense of one or more of those whose works are at issue, and -- apparently believing "the best defense is a good offense" -- started taking aim at posters, accusing them of everything from defamation to aiding and abetting criminal acts. These included pot shots at JB which have now morphed into this new thread. That's your context. Judge for yourself. My opinion, FWIW, is EVERY post of "commonsense2400" should be regarded as bad faith intimidation tactics existing for the SOLE purpose of bullying into silence those who take issue with makers of the videos that have caused widespread serious concern in the wrestling community.2 points
-
Seems like we have another poster that needs their eyes checked. What Fartard did was not your regular face mush. He aggressively shoved Glazier twice - he got up, pushed against his back, then came around and tried to shove/push against his head. That's when Glazier retaliated. And even if it had been more of a run of the mill face/back mush, do we really want to encourage more post match extracurriculars? The open hand strike, the flipping off of a teammate and crowd, is that cool by you too? "more blame should be put on the opponent". What an unbelievably low IQ take.2 points

They are around #12 in the coach's poll, which is dual meet ranking. They are definitely more of a dual team, with all 10 weights ranked, but none currently in the top 8, which is what they base the team tournament rankings on. Currently 5-0 and barring more injuries, I don't see them losing more than 2 or 3 duals this season.1 point

I'm surprised that Minnesota isn't even ranked...not in the top 30. That's pretty low for a well known program.1 point
-
Really? This is an even bigger issue in the non-Western world than it is here. Except those places are more tolerant to abuse than the western world is, so the whole logic of shitting on the West is nonsense.1 point
-
I would prefer tolerance. Every time. Primitive screwheads in some middle eastern countries choose murder by "drawn and quartered" or whatever. Tolerance is better. Always.1 point

I'm a bit surprised to hear this. My impression of RBY from his past interviews, live streams, podcasts etc. is that he's nice but very terse, sometimes to the point of boredom. When he does talk, I like hearing what he has to say because he's honest and open, but he also has this lowkey chill vibe all the time and I don't see him doing single-word mumbly color commentary.1 point

Hmmm, isn't he gonna run into copyright issues if he's showing it? Usually these things only fly under the radar if nobody knows about them1 point

They've been doing it forever and if I recall correctly, are one of the major reasons national duals aren't a thing. Cael wants to stick with his formula and doesn't give a flying f about the regular season. Can't blame him, but makes for a very lame season leading up to NCAAs.1 point

I think KOT, Carr and Amine are the only ones who have the defense to keep him at bay. KOT has so many weapons. I could see him decking MM if he gets too aggressive too early in the match. Amine is a master at slowing a match down. If he can do that, he has a chance. He also moves his feet well. The rest of them, nope. I just don’t see them going with MM. He's pretty much a true freshman. He's still getting there. He's won 8-1 and 6-4 with a match winning TD. He's gonna win some close matches and take some losses...1 point

Eggum isn't setting the world on fire but is doing just fine. It's a bonus that he's not bringing in thugs or drugs. Two more years makes sense - Eggum has a a decent amount of time to prove himself. And there's nobody else out there that could be swapped at the present moment that would be a big difference maker. It's all good. Two years seems like about the right time to review Minnesota options.1 point

Arrington is very good and considering he is on a major program, he doesn't really get as much coverage as you think he might. NC State in general is more under the radar compared to their talent level (aside from Trent Hidlay)1 point

Back to the original question.... There are less than 80 D1 Wrestling Programs and Iowa stands alone in terms of what it can offer in terms of attendance and state wide enthusiasm. Only Penn State even enters the conversation. The team is coached by an Olympic Gold Medalist and 3 x NCAA Champ with a history of coaching AA's and team titles. When it comes to landiing elite level talent, Iowa may lose a kid or 2 due to some shenanigans. But any notion that they are going to struggle--in a real sense of the word--is silly. They're Iowa. Personally, I think the Brands are often immature. But I also don't think it matters nearly as much as people want to think it does. Remember, Spencer Lee went to Iowa. He's as great as it gets.1 point

Was just messing with you a little bit.. Truth of the matter as a huge PSU fan is I’d love if they wrestled every week against anyone. That being said..if the coach who’s won what? 10 out of last 12 feels he knows what’s best for his atheletes. Who am I to question it?1 point

JB has been around forever and does good work. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. You won't get anywhere with that bullshit here. Also you've no clue what goes on in the wrestling world if you think FLO tells JB what to do. Everyone in the wrestling world agrees on 1 thing we don't want pedophiles around.1 point
