He's fully recovered, just won't wrestle again. He's a student-advisor for the wrestling team this year.5 points

Micic had some tough years starting out but all of that eventually led to his Disney moment this season. That's what I've seen in Zane Richards. He has worked his way up, Fighting the whole way. Will he have his Disney finish? I don't know, but he's certainly earned it. At least for now, he's had a really nice Pixar moment. But, my friends, Greco! Tomorrow, I'll be watching the Brawlnagel twins, Kamal Bey, We Rachal, Joe Rau and West Cathcart in the most exciting domestic Greco event in years. Besides these warriors from ILLINOIS, there are other great storylines, and folks have popped up out of the woodwork. Additionally, I saw Max Nowry listed in an Instagram post. Is he wrestling as well?4 points

I'm going to disagree with one thing here. We (Lehigh) wrestled 123-191 + Unl in duals. My understanding is that the East generally wrestled this combo and the West 115-177 + Unl. This must have differed school to school given JBs info- which would have included Lock Haven. I did notice in 1960 and 1962 we wrestled Okla and Colgate without either weight but all other duals that year had 191. 1958 didn't have 191 at all. And then as said- at NCAAs 115-191 + Unl. Definitely more bumping. Thad Turner wrestled anywhere from 167-Unl.3 points

this is actually moving into a space where its a deep deep ethical question. If a 10 year old get concussed and want to wrestle, we all say no. If a 30 year old in the olympic finals want to wrestle under similar circumstances, I think most of us would be sympathetic, its a mystery to me where to draw the lines.2 points

Tremendous! I think we need to amend the OTT qualifying criteria: -- Past World medalist -- Top American at Bill Farrell -- Top 5 at Senior Nationals -- Qualify spot at Pan Am Championships -- Lose 40 pounds to chase your dream2 points

Alirez has too many landmines. He won't make the finals. Lee will wrestle to at least 5th place. My bet is he gets to the Gold match and MFFs (seed protection). He is there to steal a spot. Unless he is hurt, he is taking 2nd at worst. Pantaleo will have the gas after his first match. Just get through that and he will be okay. It's if he loses on Day 1 that it will be a problem. If he makes the finals, I think he has enough time where he will be just fine. Monday isn't losing to Shields. Ringer is my (safe) pick as well. He only typically loses to stronger, more athletic guys (at 86 KG). McIntosh is the only one that fits that bill on his side of the bracket and I just don't think he is good enough to get it done. Nate couldn't beat a one-armed Moore. He isn't beating a healthy Moore. In fact, I think there is a good chance Schultz or Cassioppi beats Nate. Nate loses matches all the time. He wins a lot, too... but he loses all the time as well. Kerk doesn't need to beat Bradley, he just needs to place Top 5. I think it is up in the air if we see Kerk wrestle Bradley if Bradley makes the finals opposite him. It is a lose-lose for Kerk. Bradley is a big, stronk 125 KG guy. If it is anyone else across from him, I think Kerk wrestles the finals.2 points

There was no 115 or 191 in duals. When Gray was wrestling, there were 8 weights for duals and 115 and 191 were tournament weights. Gray had to win the wrestle-off at the higher weight each week to earn the starting spot. Some tournaments they went to, they didn't have a 115 and he wrestled up. In the mid 1960s, there were 11 weights for a short time. There was definitely more bumping for duals back then. The practice has fallen off considerably in the last 20 years.2 points

You and I both know for the vast majority of people, this isn't possible. They just have to believe what someone else says. I also know that you know, as important as doing the Math is, knowing what numbers to work with is at least as important. Either of us could do the Math in 90+% of the other's field, but wouldn't know what assumptions/theory to use to get to the Math. I have to believe someone's numbers in Finance, you have to believe that plane really will fly. I always remember my second year of college I had a lab partner in an EE course that asked me "Which formula do I use for this problem?" I looked at him and said "That IS the problem. Once you know that, a monkey could take it from there." Now with the computers and software available, that's even more true than it was 50+years ago.2 points

One thing that I thoroughly enjoyed about that match was the intensity that Bradley had. He was all gas, no brakes... even after Cassar was injured - "MAN STRENGTH!" When he realized Cassar was injured the coach in him kicked in and he showed class. You could tell he felt bad.1 point

Please quit saying "Achilles" and "Spencer Lee" in the same sentence... paragraph... county... continent... To your final point, David Taylor has run roughshod over global competition by running supreme folkstyle on top. If there were ever someone to be the next DT-style it *could* be Lee. But let me clarify right here and now: he is NOT Taylor. When he picks up as many gold medals we can open the conversation - I am *only* referring to folk riding destruction that could possibly maybe potentially be on par with DT.1 point

@Husker_Du I promise I'm not asking you to out any sources. Never. Never, ever, ever. What we are all asking is for the person who is far and away the most tuned in by a degree of (Flo + Minnow + boards)² is to provide transparency in waters more murky than the bottom of Loch Ness, if you would be willing to be less vague. It is already occurring at a journalism level in softball, WBB, MBB, and CFB because they are more prominent sports. Please bring our sport into the 21st century and shed some promi$e along the way for those waiting in the wings. Be the change.1 point

Spencer Lee is the most interesting storyline this Olympic year. Hailed as the next coming since high school. He has had an unusual career thus far with some tremendous success, some major bumps in the road, and far less freestyle than anyone could have expected. He has shown flashes of a level that none of these other guys can hit, but also an Achilles heel or two. The biggest Lee fans out there have to admit it wouldn't be shocking for him to gas out and get beat in the second period by a guy we've never heard of. And the biggest Lee detractors have to admit it wouldn't be shocking for him to go out and blow the doors off the competition.1 point

they're all designed differently. each school has its own way of doing things. some include tuition in the 'value' of what they offer; some don't. some require you to simply compete for their college, some have FS escalators, some have branding/image/social aspects, etc, etc. you're asking all the right questions but you seem to doubt they exist (or that the numbers are that high). i assure you, they are.1 point

Education spending and policy: Most important, make the teaching profession a more attractive career choice. There are a lot of very good people out there with passion for kids and development, but want nothing to do with all the current trimmings that come with being a teacher, for a lower level professional income. In terms of policy, I believe parents should definitely have a choice of, and voice in, curriculum. But it should be dictated by true education professionals, not parents, and not bureaucrats National defense spending and foreign policy: I believe we do have a responsibility to the world, but I also believe we take advantage of that responsibility. I would like us involved more when we are needed by the people we are helping, and less when it’s just because it’s going to benefit us. Usually, in the long run, it doesn’t Abortion: Tough one. I don’t like abortion for birth control whether it be at 10 weeks or 30. But I also don’t like the idea that my opinion dictates the medical decision of a woman I’ve never met. And I’m smart enough to know I don’t know everyone’s situation. I don’t think there should be any level of federal ban, more of a state issue. But I don’t know the state should be deciding someone’s medical fate either. I would like to see any ban be limited to those abortion solely for birth control. How to execute that? Got me Gun policy: I have guns, believe we all have the right to own them, for self defense and hunting. The framers didn’t want to make sure everyone could own guns so they could take a picture with an elephant, it was for food on the table and protect the home and family. Bigger picture, we’re not going to get this resolved until everyone puts down their stubbornness and acknowledges that it’s both guns and people that kill people, not solely one or the other. If there’s a gun but no person, no one gets shot. If there’s people but no gun, no one gets shot. It’s both. And until we all can acknowledge that the problem is a combination of access, mental health, diminishing coping skills, and diminishing value of life….well….we can keep pumping the thoughts and prayers. Lastly, gun ownership should require training. There are so many things we own and do that requires training, it baffles me using a gun isn’t. Health Care: a complicated issue I know that I don’t know enough about to have a strong opinion. I’ve worked hard, and smart, to get into a position of good insurance, I’ve tried to teach kids the same idea. Social Security: it’s been abused and shredded. Biggest priority for me would be the people that have put so much into it get what they got coming Cancel Culture: Stupid social media BS. Not worth the time. Gay marriage: I don’t plan on marrying a man. Beyond that it’s not my concern. Does government actually have a responsibility to the citizens to help or aid in their prosperity?: In the sense of offering a structure that affords the opportunity…..yes. Responsible for aiding? I guess it depends on what you mean by aid. To what level? Reparations: In the sense that we all think of it mostly, no. I think the dude from ‘The Barbershop’ explained it best. Or listen to Morgan Freeman. Environmental Conservation: Another topic I know I don’t know enough about to have a strong opinion. Church vs State: Church needs to stay out of government. There are central values, beliefs, covenants that are across all religions, and can be influence in government decision making, but any specific church/religion should stay out.1 point

Why don't you want Richards? He beat the best and it wasn't like they were Yianni "who scored what" type of matches. They were very handily decisive. Is your concern that "Gilman would have done better at worlds?" Because if he couldn't get past domestic competition who beat the crap out of him 2 matches in a row when he had months to prepare, then what would your worlds expectations have been?1 point

First time I have ever seen Suriano get a Metcalf comparison. One shoots, shoots, shoves, and shoots some more until his opponent would be broken the next match. The other might take one shot the entire match if his opponent gets close enough to the edge. That said, Suriano is quality and finished higher than Gilman to win a senior rankings tournament in an olympic year (Jan '21 at Henri Deglane). Many picked him to win the olympic spot a few months later until he tested positive for covid.1 point

Zain was never pinned in college (or high school) but he was caught and pinned in freestyle at Pan Ams when he was running either a leg lace or a gut wrench. RBY was pinned at the Southern Scuffle, not in a dual. He was ahead at that time by 8-21 point

I was the announcer for Mizzou for a few years. I instituted a full lineup of walk out music chosen by the wrestlers. I also had funny/mocking music for opponents, when applicable. Never once did any Mizzou staff express the slightest concern about obtaining “rights” from the artists involved, and I highly doubt Garth Brooks gives a damn about colleges playing his music as background for sporting events. Wrestling is not a Presidential political rally. Dude Looks Like A Lady was a favorite for opponents, btw.1 point
