  4. Related to above and some previous posts discussion. Some have suggested you got to be a doctor to discuss/understand these issue. Well its worth pointing out that most doctors aren't trained in these issues, most are dealing more with black and white issue of what do I prescribe for conditions not probabilities and statistics. There are some, we had a pediatrician who had been in research prior and knew we were in research gave us the research perspective of options for our kids' treatment etc. Now related to the whole covid thing. Why did we not require everyone to wear an N95 masks from the start? Because this was as much an economic (allocation of scarce resources among competing ends) issue as pure medical. We didn't have enough N95 and didn't want a run on N95s. There was a controlled research study in another country of mask use, can't remember country and think it was a standard like N95. The study did find mask use statistically significant vs no but it made very little difference and this was a case where they were trained to wear them properly. But back to above, Dr. Bhattacharya was a voice of reason and using research for such in the early period, plus he was basing his discussion etc from finding in his and other's current controlled research and statistics. Like said this was an medical and economic problem. Dr. B is trained in economics, statistics and medicine. But there were others also. Many that were concerned about the economic cost of lockdowns and the medical, suicide etc implications of lockdowns and mandates. As said earlier, there were controlled studies as well as other research showing that masks weren't effective for masses even if worn properly, but could be useful for vulnerable if worn properly. Can't tell you how many folks (prob ~1/3rd) showed up in a car to a business that required mask, there mask was pulled down on their chin meaning droplets were on outside of mask, entering store they pulled the mask up which then meant that when exhaling the droplets would be pushed off the outside of their mask. In these cases its possible masks were worse. And there were studies which showed certain types of masks were worse that no mask. But again the N95 was an economic problem.

  9. I think I will make this an annual plea. I just made my contribution to the NWHOF: https://nwhof.org/ And you should too. I find it to be an invaluable resource as I plow through NCAA wrestling data. I worry that the history of the sport will disappear and I want to make sure that data is always available, so I make my contributions. Consider doing the same. To the extent that you enjoy reading about that history, a contribution will go a long way towards your continued enjoyment. Check out their archive of materials. The old wrestling guides are my favorite place to go: https://nwhof.org/national-wrestling-hall-of-fame/guides I mean, where else are you going to find gems like this? So if it is in your budget, donate early. Donate often. And enjoy the fruits of other people's labors. https://nwhof.org/support

  10. Ah shoot I totally read wrestlestat backwards lol, I could’ve sworn Howard had beaten DeAugustino but he didn’t. Regardless I do think they’re both on the same level and could both be considered title contenders. Howard could also go 0-2. If he does place in like the top 4 or so then PSU probably does break the record

  13. @Wrestleknownothing or @Jason Bryant might have the stats or easier access to them but just from general knowledge there were a few D1 wrestlers in the NFL in the late 60s to 70s. A few less in the 80s into the 90s. And there are currently none that I know of. We live in an era where premier athletes devote themselves to one sport. It's even becoming more prevalent at the high school level let alone college.

  20. I don't disagree on the surface at all. However, there were so many unknowns and confusion that we were basically running around without much direction. To answer your questions in the best possible manner. I agree with the overall sentiment Bob, but why the mask craze? Because it did help with limiting exposure when wearing a proper mask and wearing it properly. Why the "stand 6 feet away"...not 5'11'' away, but 6 feet craze? Another "absolute" that we clung onto. It was meant to be something that you would generally look to to help limit exposure. I believe some of the early studies indicated that the droplets could carry approximately 6 feet and thus clearing that area would limit your exposure. And have people forgot about the not for more than 15 minutes thingy that made no sense?? Again, an absolute we clung to. I felt this was weird especially when it came to schools. This again was meant to help limit your exposure. For instance if I was sitting next to someone with COVID for 15 minutes vs. 2 hours, I would be more exposed to the virus if I was there for 2 hours. In all honesty the guidelines pushed were more to limit your exposure and not 100% prevent you from getting it. That is where we lost connection to these guidelines. Limiting the exposure was to hopefully keep people out of the hospitals that were at max capacity in some areas. Getting a smaller does of COVID gives your body a better chance of fighting it off without much help needed from a doctor or hospital.

  22. I'm with you there, no need to go overboard. That said, U20 champs are basically a guarantee to AA, and most win titles at some point in their careers. Looking at the past 10 years of junior world champs in their first year of competition, we have: 2013 Snyder - 2nd place in first try in 2015 (no redshirt) 2015 Lee - 1st place in first try in 2018 (no redshirt) 2016 Lee - See above Hall - 1st place in first try in 2017 (no redshirt) 2017 Hall - See above Fix - 2nd place in first try in 2019 Steveson - 3rd place in first try in 2019 (no redshirt) 2018 Lewis - 1st place in first try in 2019 2019 Carr - 1st place in first try in 2021 Parris - 2nd place in first try (after world's) in 2021 2021 O'Toole - 1st place in first try (after World's) in 2022 Elam - 4th place in first try (after World's) in 2022 Amos - NQ in first try 2022 Volk - NQ in first try Kueter - TBD 2023 Shapiro - TBD Mesenbrink - TBD

  23. I don't think either side of this debate is as far from each other as many think. No one wanted to wear a mask No one wanted things shut down No one wanted to be cooped up with our family for however long it was! Social media combined with people having too much free time was a potent mixture that caused people to spread misinformation, scary stories, and everything else in between.

  25. We tend to mix things we know now vs. what we knew then. At the time what we truly knew was limited and much like the guidelines changed at what seemed by the hour. The virus to this day still is very sporadic and attacks the old and weak more, but still will suck up a victim that we would deem healthy. More than anything the unpredictability of this virus is what drove the craze. Very true, not sure exactly if you are referring to mandatory masking and such or not. To be honest requiring masks in public during this time should not have been as big of a deal as it was. No one truly wants to wear a mask. At the same time if it helps a little bit then it shouldn't have been as big of a deal as it was. Not wrong there at all. I think this is where things were escalated to a new level. I can attest that the place I work was granted an exception and many places found the loophole to stay open. Some were not as lucky and many never reopened. As far as the kids, again agree completely. I cannot fathom being a coach that had to tell his baseball team there was no season or the modified graduation ceremonies that were held if at all. I think our schools found it way easier to go remote than to to find a way to get kids back in the building. One of the reasons I feel that lead to this that doesn't get discussed is how litigious the American society has become. I think schools and the state were more concerned with being sued than anything.

  26. This!! The sympathy for the victim is lost in enforcement of laws more than ever right now. Some of the current narrative out there paints perpetrators as the victims. The victims should be at the forefront of every policy decision being made in regard to laws and breaking the law and enforcement of the law...sadly that is not the case.

  28. It may be contained in breath droplets, but it is an aerosolized virus, developed as a bio weapon and floats through the air quite well on its own. The openings in the best K or N95 masks are 3-5 times larger than the virus. They only accomplish aggravation, restrict oxygen intake, and increase CO2 intake. The only way to prevent succumbing to the virus is to wear the protective gear that you see the lab techs wearing in the lab. Full body containment with an oxygen supply followed up by decontamination procedures. If masks worked, then that’s what they’d wear.

  29. fair question that idk the answer to. what i do know is that no mask completely stops covid-sars from going thru it. the particles are too fine.

  30. Honest question, can you go a little further into ‘don’t work against Covid’. Do you mean they are not 100% effective; do you mean they are 0% effective. Or to ask in application….30 people in a classroom for an hour and a half. When you say doesn’t work, would you say: it may cut down transmission but there’s still potential for some to get through; or would you say it doesn’t matter, mask or not, it’s going to be the same level of transmission?

  33. so many words, and so little substance. look up the prosecution rates of major cities. they don't prosecute shit. DC is like 33%. every day there's another terrible incident in NYC b/c someone that has been arrested a dozen times and was left out, reoffends. business and corporations are pulling out of chicago in significant #'s meaning less services and jobs. look it up. you can't say 'it's not D vs. R' when all these are liberal policies literally espoused on the campaign trail by D's that you voted for.

  34. I'm not defending Ban - he's doing his thing. You're doing yours. I'm doing mine. My take here is that you are referring to THE POLICY as if it were a real thing. It's not. I just isn't. Democrats don't think criminals should be getting a free pass - except the fringe. The rest don't at all. It isn't a "lower class obstacles" issue for the majority of D's. It's a crime problem we need to rectify. D's aren't that far from R's. We're all living the same way. It shouldn't surprise anyone to realize that we all feel basically the same way about issues and policies. Sure, some R's believe in flat-earth, ivermectin, fake moon landing, etc. But just the fringe. Most are levelheaded. It is weird that you insist on making this a blue vs red standoff. When it isn't one. Moderate R and D basically agree. Fringe R and D don't... but they are both kooks.

  35. Don't purposely be obtuse, you know what my post meant - and if others don't, they can read it again. It was clear. Posters here sometimes purposely hide their gender. Which is 100% cool. It's an anonymous BBS. When other posters refer to them using gender-specific terms based on what they read from their posts, how the heck are these other posters supposed to know they are using incorrect terms? Answer = they can't possibly know. And it's "over the line" to accuse them of wrongdoing when they can't possibly know. So - who here thinks it's a good idea to attack posters for not knowing someone's hidden gender? Answer = nobody. But, for whatever reason, you've decided it's a cause you should take up. So, just you on the attack. You are posting exactly like someone who is "woke"... mad as a cut snake because the wrong pronoun was used. Ooof.

And how the heck did you twist that into I am trying to get people to reveal their gender on here?? SMH Just like Ban, sure would like to know what the heck is going on in that little brain of yours and how the heck do you two make up half the crap you spew on here. Hmmm...ever wonder why the two of you are almost always arguing with every single other person on here? Including those that appear to have similar believes as yourself. Sometimes when you think everyone else is the problem, here is a hint, it may be you.
