Before 2015-2016 2 points were awarded for a NF between 2 and 4 seconds and 3 points for a NF of 5 seconds or more. It was then changed to 2 points for a NF of 2-3 seconds and 4 points for 4 seconds or more. If we compare the period 2008-2015 (before the 4 point NF) with 2016-2021 (after the 4 point NF and before extra the free year) the # of TF increased from 12.8 to 27.2 per tournament. That is an increase of 112.5%. This increase came from turning MDs into NFs, but also from turning PFs into TFs. Pinfalls fell from an average of 71.6/tournament before the rule change to 67 after. This was a decrease of 6.4%. I suspect the effect of the rules scheduled for next season to be more significant than those back 2015-2016. The 4 point NF turned all 3 point NFs into 4 point NFs (an increase of 33%) and some 2 point NFs (over 4s and < 5s) into 4 points NFs an increase of 100%. The changes for next season not only increase some 2 point NFs into 3 points NFs but increase TDs, which are much more common, by 50%.3 points

There has not yet been an announcement on this. I hear there is still a fundraising figure that needs to be met for this to become a reality.2 points

That was long before divisions. Divisional structure wasn’t enacted until 1974 and the college/university split started in 1963. There was major college wrestling there, but it can’t be described as D1. Same with results into the 1960s with schools like UTEP and Houston competing within their own Texas league, which best I can tell, would be like a club equivalent.2 points

Yeah, I was just following up on if piece parts are available. Fortunately the voices in my head are only about smoking meats and not anything else. mspart2 points

Well, about all I learned from this thread is why some people are called Progressives and some aren't. Left to your own devices, some of you would still be wearing fig leaves and riding donkeys.1 point

What does this have to do with a trans kid? Are there laws against trans kids owning guns or something?1 point

@mspart I read all of your quotes. Enjoy, and agree with each of them. I would ask in response what legislation is being proposed, or has been, that is asking to disarm the people of the United States, keeping in mind that there is a difference between disarming and well regulating? Can we at least start there, that there is a difference between disarming and regulating? It’s a lot more difficult to find a common ground starting from the extremes, rather than start from the middle and work from there.1 point

You can be prosecuted if a thief comes into your house and steals your gun and then uses it in another crime. So the same would apply to the two examples given above. Around these parts, the first offense to be thrown out is the gun charge. Yes, all the liberals want to limit guns and to make laws that punish people for using them in a crime. And then the liberals refuse to prosecute rendering the law useless. But defend yourself with a gun and they are all over you trying to get you shut down and in prison. mspart1 point

All laws infringe on the rights the law abiding citizens don't they?1 point

For reference, 2nd amendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” IMO, a precise clarification of 'Arms' is desperately needed.1 point

IMO international wrestling is a stepping stone for RBY, not a destination. He's taking the path of least resistance to up his stock and start his MMA career with the label "Olympian" next to his name. Or so he hopes.1 point

Well...what he is commenting on is not that HE wants no regulation, rather you saying because of the NRA there is less regulation, when in fact, historically we are drastically in the complete opposite direction of "gun ownership shall not be infringed" as indicated in the 2nd. I am not saying I am a HUGE supporter of the NRA as I don't like some of the stuff they do, but to me they are an important part to balance out the two extremes...i.e., those who want to ban ALL guns and those that want absolutely NO regulation on guns and gun ownership.1 point

Commend you brother for noticing it...trying to keep myself from getting there...work and women though...LOL I have implemented a "rule" that I don't drink at home unless it is a cookout, get together, etc. And when I am out and have to drive I don't drink vodka as it is the "forget" sauce for me as I am fast drinker, and that stuff goes down like water for me. I have gone to this seltzer called Carbliss (black raspberry), mostly due to doing keto, but they are tasty as well. But man are they expensive and not a lot of places have them.1 point

Let me see, we started out with “shall not be infringed” and we’ve gotten less strict?1 point

I did a brisket this last weekend for Father's day and my meat got done about 3 hours earlier than I planned so wrapped it in foil and two towels and it stayed warm until the guests arrived. I heard the cooler will keep it warm nice and long too. For grilling corn in the husk, you can put crumpled up newspaper in a cooler and throw the cooked cobs in there and they too will stay warm for many hours.1 point

I use a pellet smoker and have done a lot of pork butts. Here is my process - I add my pellets, I have used apple wood pellets in the past and those are good, but have switched over to a competition blend, which is just a combination blend of wood pellets. I set the smoker to 225 and while that is heating up I wash the butts, pat dry them and then apply olive oil (you don't need to do this but I just do it) and a rub. I have started to dabble in my own rubs and they have turned out really good, but another really good go to is the Kroger brand pork rub...it has great flavor. Side note...applying the rub the night before also is a good practice, cut sometimes I don't plan very good. I then put the butts in the smoker and let it smoke until 160 and then wrap it in the brown butcher paper and then continue smoking until 200 -205. I then take it out and wrap it in 2 towels and let it rest for approximately 45 - 60 minutes. Comes out and has a nice bark ( @mspart waiting until 160 to wrap may help with the bark part) and is absolutely fall apart. I serve the pulled pork in a crock pot and add 7-up soda to it to keep it moist. The leftovers (which is usually a lot as I normally don't do just one butt) I seal pack and put in the freezer. I found the best way to reheat it is to put the frozen stuff in a slow cooker and bring it slowly back up to a warm temp...again I add 7-up soda to keep it moist...and it still is nice and tender.1 point

I am no Guru on smoking meat, let's get that out of the way first. I will fill the wood box with apple wood chips. I will then line the water tray with foil and fill with water. Then I will place thawed pork butts on the racks of the smoker. Then I will turn on the propane and get the temp up to 225-230F. It will usually stay there and this slowly cooks the meat but is enough to get the chips started smoking. This time I will get the meat to about 150F internal and then wrap in foil. This reduces the crust on the pork as I understand it. New process for me. I did not do this on the previous pork butts I smoked but the crust was fairly thick. My wife and I both like the edges pretty crisp so I think we will do this. Cook until 205 internal temp and remove, and let sit for an hour. Pretty simple. We will give the pork a rub before cooking. Also, at the 150 mark, you can wrap and pull out the pork and put in an oven to finish the cooking. By then the chips have smoked their all and have no more to give. But the internal of the smoker is pretty smoky too so I will probably leave it in the smoker until done. I'm no cook and don't put a lot of thought into how to make this better like "Gee I should cut up apples and add to the top" or other enhancements. This works and I am very happy with my previous results. I looked up this method on the interwebs and the google. mspart1 point

As I have said in a previous thread; however, it looks like the posts were deleted for some reason, I definitely think it is parenting. l do struggle with the comparison of our parenting to other countries as it is hard to do based on culture and societal norms being very different in each. But for the US, parenting as swung way over into more of the enablement of a kid, lack of accountability, and guarding them from ever having to cope with difficult situations...just to name a few.1 point

Gun culture? They used to teach marksmanship and safety in schools. In scouting. The NRA is still the largest firearm safety instruction group of all. Guess how many mass shooters were members of the NRA.1 point

Spot on. Too many tragedies to name. They keep building, each less emotionally impactful than the last. They are becoming normalized. All the blood of hundreds of children and more than 1 mass shooting a day for decades can't overcome the unique culture that enables it.1 point

I posted this to try to show the idiocy of the old "He could have used a rock or a hammer" argument so loved by some. Nothing more, nothing less. It should be obvious that this guy very most likely would not have killed a PA State Trooper and critically injured another without a gun. The gun empowered someone who obviously (to me anyway) shouldn't have had one, to take a life. In that sense, it did what it was intended to do. Again, pretty obvious. Amazing to me that so many people, and one organization which is the most politically connected in the country, have such a hard time admitting that there exists at least one person in the US who shouldn't be in possesion of a gun. I'm even more amazed how people such as myself are constantly accused of "having an agenda", while the companies making money through the sales of guns and ammo must not have an agenda. Now, to use a turn on a well worn phrase... I couldn't make that up. Anyway, fear not sheep. If the murders of 26 people in an elementary school, and countless other tragedies, couldn't reign in the NRA, one PA State Trooper certainly isn't. Carry on...1 point

Gable took over for Gary Kurdelmeier who had Iowa heading in the right direction. Never before had Iowa won an NCAA Title. Gary recruited Dan Gable and after four years and two NCAA tltles he turned the program over to him. https://hawkfanatic.com/2020/07/13/gary-kurdelmeiers-vision-and-unselfishness-helped-build-the-iowa-wrestling-dynasty/ Gable retired from Coaching and has said many times the reason was he could no longer roll on the mat with his wrestlers. Hip & knees - not being able to keep wrestling with his athletes was why he left. Cael is every bit as good as a coach but a very different personality. Might be a good clue as to whether he will keep on for another decade or more.1 point

I can't tell if you're being serious or not with this question. Since when was Spencer one of the most polarizing figures in the history of the Iowa program? Do you even know what polarizing means? You clearly don't have a grasp on the history of Iowa wrestling either. The 80s and 90s were filled with actual polarizing guys (e.g. Royce Alger). 99% of the people who "hate" Spencer Lee hate him because of the singlet he wore, not because of the person he is. If Spencer wrestled for Cornell, do you think he would have received the hate that he got from some of you over the last 5 years? You know the answer is no. Now to answer your question, Iowa fans see Spencer as a very popular, well-spoken, successful Hawkeye who would bring strong ties to the state of PA and continue close relationships with Jody and Young Guns. I don't think it's any secret now that recruiting is 75% of the battle in today's college wrestling. Most of the kids who will be coming through over the next 10-12 years will have grown up watching and idolizing guys like Spencer, who has been the face of the sport for the last four years. He also isn't done competing and seems to be one of those people who succeeds at anything he puts his mind to. Why should coaching be any different? Now here's a question for you. Before Gable took over the Iowa program and Cael took over ISU, what did they bring to the table besides being really popular and successful at wrestling?1 point
-
I meant retire from coaching. If this was the reason he couldn't coach then that doesn't bode well for Spencer Lee as the next Iowa HC.1 point

Probably because he couldn't walk very well anymore. He put his body through the ringer.1 point

Saw this on Flo's Northern Iowa preview, any direct source from wrestler/team? I don't think he has qualified based on USA wrestling's criteria (although they have been unclear in the past). The only criterion he would qualify through is #1, past national team member, but the addendum to that (Top 3 at Senior World Team Trials) makes it clear that means for the US national team. Micic qualified because he won Cadet bronze for the US and then switched nationalities, Amine qualified because he finished top 3 at NCAAs. Amar Dhesi won a Junior gold medal for Canada in 2014 and Ville Heino represented Finland in 2015- neither took an Olympic redshirt and I never heard either's name as eligible in 2016. Of course USA Wrestling could do their job and list wrestlers who have qualified once they do so, but they unfortunately do not.1 point

MARKETING Would you walk into court without a lawyer? Of course not. So why jump into the NIL cesspool without an agent. We are Top G, baby. You might know our first client, Marvin Atkins, better known as Austin DeSanto. We advised him to get a European sounding name, wrestle like somebody was choking him to death, and never let the rays of the Sun touch his body. That was his brand. We at The ILLINI Wrestling Blog and Forum are stepping it up a notch this year. Our newest client, Kannon Webster, legally changed his name to DEATH SKULL (all caps). He's got a full face tattoo and has signed a seven-figure deal with Nabisco, the darkest, most evil of the baked snack companies.1 point

Levi and Franek were 2nd and 4th in the country. this year. their best win is the same guy (PRobb (who btw, beat AOC). it's most definitely in the toss-up category. that being said, i'd pick Levi. I just gave Iowa the toss ups to make it as close as i can conceive (to make it as interesting as possible). and i'll double/triple/quadruple down that AJ 1) never wrestles 197 again in college and 2) if i'm wrong about that, doesn't beat Brooks. truly don't know what people are looking at when they say otherwise. are you watching the same things i am?1 point

@scourge165, I'm digging these: You have what it takes to become a full-time counselor at one of our seven training centers. We are a division of Parker Betts Backflip Camps, Inc. Are you ready to take that next step? We also tell our athletes who lose, Why not celebrate? If you've given 110%, and you still lost, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Most importantly, if your backflip and superhero landing outshines the winner's celebration, then who exactly was the loser? Hmm. Hmm.1 point

Feels like God has to be 1st. Otherwise...if you've only been religious since you were say...6 and the OTHER guy since he was 4, well, that's an easy call. God's DEFINITELY tilting the scales in the other guys favor. This feels like common sense. What you really need are headphones around the stomach so the child can hear Aaron Brooks speeches in the Womb. Maybe a little air pod in the belly button(if they have an inny and so long as it remains an inny). I now think the list has to be revised. God Celebration PRE-match display of athleticism After that, it's all getting pretty obvious. You need a tribal tat, you need a funny tat on the back. The only way around these are to go to PSU and to have Cael put his hands on you and just ordain you. But I hear that's quite tiring and he can only do it with 3 Wrestlers at a time...so1 point

After working with wrestlers on a top-notch celebration in one of the three main categories (Religious, Dance, Tumbling), I let him or her know that IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY TO START YOUR CELEBRATION. Why wait? If you’re up by 2 with a minute to go, do a backflip at the re-start. If time is ticking off and you have a one-point lead on bottom or on top, shake your fist in triumph. This serves two purposes: (1) You have cemented in your mind that you will win, and (2) You have destroyed your opponent’s confidence. You'll find all of these tips and more in my book: Wrestling Celebrations and Thirty Other Ways to Piss Off Old People. Buy it on Amazon today!1 point
