  1. Pretty sure Duke qualified because he was a 2025 world teamer. Also Mullen/Kerkvliet were top 7 at the Open this year
  2. 2019 they won one gold (McGowan) and one bronze (Facundo). Before that, you have to go back to 2012/2013, where we won one gold and that's it (Zain and Pico at 63kg). Since the reintroduction of Cadet/U17 worlds in 2011, the US has always had at least one gold medalist. Wax and Tsarni will try to extend that streak tomorrow.
  3. Wouldn't Rademacher technically be 5th on the ladder? 4th at the Open, but Snyder will be 1st/2nd.
  4. If someone out there could help me... USA Wrestling's website lists the qualification order for U23 men's freestyle worlds as follows: World team selection: (Listed in rank order for selection) 1. The highest ranked, age eligible, athlete from 2026 Senior Men’s Freestyle National Team (top 3) Final X winner, Final X runner-up and 3rd overall senior athlete via the 2026 Senior Men’s Freestyle World Team Trials. 2. Fourth (4th) ranked, age eligible, athlete from the 2026 Men’s Freestyle World Team selection. 3. National team coaches will make a recommendation to the Men’s Freestyle Sport Committee for final approval. The U23 Trials champ isn't even listed here? I'm guessing they forgot to put that in, but that would impact whether some wrestlers have already locked up their spots on the U23 team (Shumate at 92kg and Sinclair at 86kg) or if they need to win the wrestle-off for third at Final X. If anyone knows someone at USA Wrestling and could reach out, that would be amazing!
  5. Does anybody know if any eligible wrestler accepted the U23 spot? They had until Monday to do so, but USA Wrestling didn't issue a list or a team yet. I wondered if they postponed it because of the Jax/Vito wrestle-off
  6. NBC/NBC Sports has the rights to pretty much everything Olympics related. I'm sure the deal is between the USOPC and NBC, not necessarily USA Wrestling
  7. Been thinking about this for a while now, and in general I love guys wrestling for other countries. I will throw out this caveat: I saw Alec Pantaleo and Austin Gomez in a photo together after a training session before Pan-Am Olympic qualifiers. If I'm Pantaleo, why would I want Austin Gomez to get better PRE-Qualifying?. I guess my logic is this: 1. Pantaleo wrestles at the same weight as Gomez, and neither have qualified the weight 2. Pantaleo is helping Gomez get better, and while Pantaleo is also getting better, Gomez was competing directly for the Olympic spot 3. With Gomez beating Lee, it directly hurts Pantaleo's chances at making the Olympics by adding another tourney he has to wrestle Train after qualifying? Cool. Train at different weights? Perfect. It just doesn't make sense to me in this situation to help the other guy.
  8. Beach wrestling is the future in terms of gender equality. Women's beach instead of Greco might be happening if wrestling stays around after 2028. Wrestling, by the way, is guaranteed through the 2028 Olympics. Not sure on the IOC politics, but not a great thing that the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane are in a host country without a wrestling culture.
  9. Saw this on Flo's Northern Iowa preview, any direct source from wrestler/team? I don't think he has qualified based on USA wrestling's criteria (although they have been unclear in the past). The only criterion he would qualify through is #1, past national team member, but the addendum to that (Top 3 at Senior World Team Trials) makes it clear that means for the US national team. Micic qualified because he won Cadet bronze for the US and then switched nationalities, Amine qualified because he finished top 3 at NCAAs. Amar Dhesi won a Junior gold medal for Canada in 2014 and Ville Heino represented Finland in 2015- neither took an Olympic redshirt and I never heard either's name as eligible in 2016. Of course USA Wrestling could do their job and list wrestlers who have qualified once they do so, but they unfortunately do not.
