  1. i would just ask that everyone that was around for the original thread give the instigator a little bit of a break for how it all played out... i personally would not have went about it in quite the same manner, but, when you are pushed to the edge these things happen... add in his offspring being involved... add in how long he has been involved in this sport and at what levels he has been involved... let all just have a bit of compassion and empathy...

  2. Didn’t miss much… Gilman lost, everyone hates TurdBerger for head butting Zain, Yianni lost, Flo’s streaming cut out multiple times, JB lost, people called Zahid fat, Gable didn’t serial crush Paris quite as badly, Braunagel broke Vera and he didn’t show for match 3, everyone hates Pyles, Nick Lee>Spencer Lee, Flo’s streaming cut out more, J’den was on crutches… but at least he made weight this time, Adeline made her 23rd straight world team… other than that, Flo’s streaming cut out.

  3. No… it’s not. I am a wrestling media guy (a silly little page called The Pin Doctors) and am probably the least social “wrestling media guy” out of any of them and am becoming more that way as time goes by. I don’t ever know the “gossip” stuff from any room, let alone that one… I don’t discuss any other wrestler with my brother other than just him. I don’t even bother to ask him when I discuss wrestling with him because 1.) It puts him in a terrible position (something I learned the hard way during a 2022 situation that’s been beaten to death already) and 2.) I genuinely don’t care. To anyone who has ever followed my page or my stuff dating back to The Predicament, I doubt you’d find many who would say my “M-O” is the wrestling news/gossip stuff. I’m just not into it and it never even occurs to me to ever ask my brother what “so and so” is weighing, who won in Madden between “so and so” and “so and so,” etc. I just really don’t care. I can go to a meet expecting to see world-beaters and would still able to enjoy my time if a bunch of 4th stringers competed. And I’m not stupid. I get it. I understand why people would think it’s me and I can probably list 3-4 reasons as to what would make ppl think that, starting with which groups I share my own Facebook PinDox posts in sometimes…not to mention my big, stupid mouth in a strenuous situation of the 2021-22 season. It looks bad…. I get that. I wasn’t THAT social with other wrestling media to begin with and have taken yet another few steps back from all that since this past fall when I noticed some people assuming certain info was leaked by me. It’s not… and it certainly won’t ever be in the future because now not only do I genuinely not care about the gossip, but I go out of my way to not ever know any of it so it’s damn clear to my own family that it’s not me… which is really the only people I care about in terms of what their opinions are on me and my wrestling mouth. Funny thing is, 75% of the gossip “leaks” that I’ve read ppl blaming me for is stuff that I STILL don’t know to this day because I care THAT little about wrestling gossip stuff to where I don’t even have the motivation to look up what supposedly came from me. People pm me asking me to break news about multiple programs on a daily basis and I rarely even respond to these messages. Because that’s not my bag because I don’t care about it at all. Things are just gonna unwind as they do and I’m fine with that. Sidenote: After some of the mentioned drama from 2021-22, I quit drinking to ensure I never publicly got pissed and went off the handle running my mouth again like I did after the Iowa-Minnesota meet last year. I was hammered that night. And was mortified afterwards. I’ve only been hammered one time since that I can recall and I can’t even frigging believe that, for I used to binge-drink most weekends and every day in my 20’s. Never thought I’d see the day where I didn’t have to worry about the rambunctiousness of “Drunk Swaff.” That was a terrible situation for us, but at least THAT came from it… I needed to stop all that as it was.

  6. Richards had to take out a multi-time world medalist and as a result of two consecutive, decisive wins only caught a little more shade from Basch because surely it was the weight cut rather than talent. Hard to root against that. Arujau settled the debate once and for all by taking The Leap against someone who believes the earth is flat. Modern Day Sir Isaac Newton if you ask me. Lee is competing at historically our weakest weight by taking out a half human- half challenge brick hybrid monster. How can you not root for him? Zain overcame a particularly challenging case of AssBergers. Talk about a success story. Dake has reversed aging. Only a fool would root against a medical miracle. Marstellar just beat an all-time great by bending space/time and successfully completing a throw out of bounds. Every team should be so lucky to have a quantum physics marvel. Taylor has sacrificed his hair line for his scrambling. He's by far the most humble champ I have ever encountered and his attitude says it all. Zahid has overcome so much - consistently getting beat at every weight he goes, fun weekends in Rome, cosplaying as the Stay-Puft Marshmellow Man etc. How can you not cheer for him? Snyder discovered the secret of dismantling Russian tanks to accomplish his goal of most world titles in a career. I cannot wait to see where his geopolitical career goes next. Steveson is so powerful that he made the letter 'N' disappear from the alphabet. More like Ge_o Petriashvili & Amir Hossei_ Zare if you ask me.

  7. I just don’t get what is so hard to understand about coach-athlete relationships being strictly prohibited, and whether it was consensual, isn’t even a factor to consider. It does not matter in the SafeSport rules. Trying to mitigate the seriousness of the infraction based on them being consenting adults is asinine. Furthermore… it’s a felony for teachers/ coaches to have relationships with 18 year old students/ athletes, even if they are “consenting adults”. It’s a felony for a prison guard to have a relationship with an inmate, even if they are “consenting adults”. It’s a felony for a psychiatrist to have a relationship with his patient, even if they are “consenting adults”. Why? Because there cannot be true consent with the existence of such an imbalance of power.

  9. Couple thoughts on the coaches knowing the score and who's winning. Yianni's matches were nuts and there was lots of back and forth going on and even some 2-2 situations that in the heat of the moment you don't know who is given the important last score. Sitting at home it is easy for me to know the situation as I'm not emotionally invested in knowing the score, yelling instructions, figuring out if we need to change the gameplan, etc. I'd give Grey a pass here mainly because there were some weird situations in the Yianni match where you aren't sure the order of the scores or who was given what points. More than anything UWW/USAW needs to do a better job of giving the coaches indicators of the number of specific types of scores. Even having a running count of scores under the wrestler's name would go a long way to helping figure out who is leading and what they need to score. I will throw Flo a compliment in that Pyles seems to be good at telling the audience what is needed for wrestlers to win a match when they are down late.

  14. Nahshon could and should have won final x. He made so many bad decisions though, composure has always been a major problem for him on the freestyle circuit. I think Retherford and Vito are in trouble, they both loose so much pop when when they drop that extra weight. I don’t fault them for it, it’s not something they can control, but zain is missing his zip, I don’t think he’d beat nick lee with the extra cut, and same with vito, the cut clearly hurts. Speaking of bad cuts, what was the deal with gilman? He looked like he knew something was going on the entire time, and didn’t even seem that surprised by losing to richards. I’m going out on a limb now and saying I think we’ve seen the last of JB in a team trials finals. He looked immobile and inactive against dake in the finals, same against marstellar, and Marstellar made him look tiny. It looked like he didn’t have the room in his life to get the same sort of training in that he used to, which is totally fair, but he seemed like be was smelling the roses pretty hard before his finals match, which indicates he’s thinking about a lot OTHER than being the best competitor possible. Taylor was sniffing those same flowers, but still managed to get the job done this time. Based on how that all went though, I’m calling for taylor to bronze at worlds and for brooks to win in three matches for the olympics. Brooks looked a lot bigger, taylor looked smaller, and I’m betting by next year brooks is going to be straight diesel, and for taylor to be down another 5 pounds of muscle, kinda the way jb has gone the past two years. Now for the requisite trolling, I’m saying J’den cox beats mason parris to go to the olympic team trials finals against steveson.

  15. 2018 Zac won greco juniors and Danny (165) won free juniors. Both are much more inconsistent in folkstyle at the NCAA level than international styles. Illinois RTC has established itself as a great greco shop with Brian Medlin leading the charge. Kamal Bey, Max Nowry, Ellis Coleman, Tanner Farmer, the Braunagels, and now Luke Luffman (4th at the US Open) are all resident athletes and becoming/ are household names in the greco community.

  24. There is no if. No if’s, no gray area, no mitigating circumstances. It is a clear, hard and fast rule. The punishment, however, is less clear-cut. It could be anything from temporary restrictions [Travel / Lodging Restriction(s), Coaching / Training Restriction(s), No Contact Directive(s), No Unsupervised Coaching / Training] to a suspension to permanent ineligibility.

  32. Pretty easy to extrapolate if you don't go down the transfer/recruiting butterfly effect and just pretend Kerk and Dean are at school X. It comes out to a -20 point swing leaving Penn State at 117.5, or 45 points ahead of Iowa. Or if you want to pretend that the wheel didn't spin and Beard = PSU, Dean = Cornell, Kerk = tOSU, and Nevills = PSU then this is how the math checks out: Beard finished R12: 1 win (+1 MD) on the front side, 2 wins ((0.5*2)+1MD) in consis) = 4 points Nevills finished R16: 1 decision the front side + .5 in consis = 1.5 points If you want to say "but but but Cornell!" then please remember that Dean beat Cardenas in the 7th place match so it would not have been enough to beat Iowa. Cardenas scored 6.5 points and Dean scored 7. +0.5 Cornell The big winner would have been tOSU +19.5 from Kerk and -1.5 from Orndorff (R12). That would have moved tOSU from 4th into 2nd place with 88.0 points. Therefore: PSU 117.5 [-21 points, remains winner] tOSU 88.0 [+17.0 ↑2 places] Iowa 82.5 [±0.0 ↓1 place] Cornell 80.5 [+0.5 ↓1 place]

  35. Richard Voliva, a Distinguished Member inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1984, was born on this date in 1912. #LegendsLiveOn Every university welcomes home-grown talent. So when Indiana University Wrestling was building a wrestling power in the early 1930s, it was happy to find a young state champion right at home in Bloomington. As a sophomore, Dick was a member of the Indiana University Athletics team that claimed the 1932 NCAA championship, first ever for a Big Ten school. He amassed individual honors the next two years, reaching the national finals in 1933 and winning both Big Ten and NCAA titles as a senior, closing with a 48-4 record. He also starred in football, and as a senior was presented a special award for bringing honor and distinction to his university. Dick won a silver medal at the Olympics in Berlin in 1936. On returning from the Olympics, he joined the faculty at Montclair State University in New Jersey and soon launched a wrestling program there, serving as coach until World War II brought a four-year interruption. He had been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army upon graduation in 1934, and during active duty he rose in rank to lieutenant colonel. Dick returned to New Jersey in 1946, but at the state university, Rutgers University. He coached Rutgers Wrestling for 25 years, guiding his teams to 148 victories against 85 losses and eight draws. He was a leader among his colleagues, serving five years on the NCAA rules committee, two of them as chairman. He was president of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association and of the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

  37. the UWW rule book is written intentionally very grey so it can be translated to 200+ languages... and it does allow for some definite "interpretation" and there is no doubt there has been shenanigans in the past... but, i watch more international wrestling than domestic and i can tell you the reffing is for the most part very consistent and fair...

  38. It astonishes me how quickly flo got so impressively corporate. I worked at big banks where people seemed less scared of falling afoul of the company line than they seem be at flo. This many years on I think it should say a lot that anybody with any sense of independent thinking or a personality has been pushed out of fulltime work at Flo. Anybody interested in going out and seeing if we can bust up some of these contracts they have on tournaments?

  39. I may be in the minority on this, but I agree with this sentiment after all the changes that have come recently. When the transfer portal became a thing, I thought it was a good thing for college athletes to be able to move freely if something changed with their situation at their previous school. It is when the NIL became legal that now I feel we should have one or the other. If an athlete gets paid that's great, but they should be locked in for a duration at that point IMO. I realize there are probably several good arguments against this...just my knee jerk reaction.

  43. My quibble was that as well. I did point out early "hey, If I don't know who has criteria, neither do the people in here." Criteria didn't impact too many matches overall, though, so that impact was pretty minimal, except ... when it wasn't. My partner-in-crime Bryan Hazard was probably more on the spot with the challenge review process to make sure proper credit is given.
