Just putting as many future Cinnabon threads into one thread so we don't clutter the board - Is David Taylor the next coach at Iowa (Swap out DT for Cox, Burroughs, Dake, etc) -Is Angelo Ferrari the next Spencer Lee -Michigan will beat PSU in a dual -Iowa should hire Spencer as HC now -Terry Brands spills the beans on Tom Brands -Penn State needs to build a Dan Gable statue -Spencer Lee vs Alexander Karelin -Should Penn State seek another National Title -Mineo reporting on twitter: Spencer Lee to Iran

  7. Do we have much bigger problems in our society than murder and robbery by guns? Of course. The school shootings, mall shootings, etc are merely the "canary in the coal mine" for much bigger problems we have in our country. I agree that the vast majority of this is due to lax or even non-existent parenting. Much of that is caused by the parents themselves having had little to no positive role model(s). That will only worsen. Another big problem we have in this country is the unbridled pursuit of profit by companies with no regard to the effect their product has on our society. There are countless examples of this. With regard to the subject at hand, two pop to mind. The entertainment industry, feeding our children violent movies and video games is one. Also without a doubt, the gun and ammo manufacturers is another. ANYONE who doesn't believe the NRA is spinning numbers to absolve these companies is very naive. Another problem we have is lack of education in critical thinking. Very few people anymore have any basic thought process that could help them to figure out who's BSing them regardless of "sources". (Hint: 99% of the time, follow the money.) This is only exacerbated by the speed with which mis-information is spread by social media. I'm 99.999+% sure the YT video linked here over and over as "proof" of something fits perfectly into that. I'm 70 years old and have a lot of perspective. Make no mistake...This "I present something as fact and then it's up to you to disprove it or it IS fact" thought process is a product of the internet and can only lead us down the proverbial rabbit hole. We all need to do better than that. I have advanced a couple of suggestions on trying to help with the gun murders and robberies but ultimately after the mandatory name calling by both sides they are always met with the Second Ammendment Stonewall and my forehead slap. The solution to the REAL problems in our country are beyond my pay grade.

  10. For the individual it may be better than Iowa, Chittum will be there as a 157 with Paniro Johnson below him and David Carr above him. Those are tougher training partners than at Iowa, as well as adding Brent Metcalf as another person who brings Iowa's background in a different environment.

  14. Absolutely...... no argument here. Great that Loch Haven and Moore stuck with him and played a part in his overcoming personal problems to become a success.... something that didn't happen at Ok State. A mid-level (if that) school where kids can still succeed....imagine that. My point being (as a response to another comment), don't diss on the Mid-low level programs like the Rutgers and Loch Havens where kids can still be successful. In the day and age of NIL and the focus being Iowa vs PSU ... It just makes me a bigger fan of the mid-tier programs.

  17. Sure, just have those up and comers make the National Team. Selection criteria were created by a committee of folks from the USAW Olympic Committees, coaches, and current athletes. Those up and comers are also free to enter the Spanish Grand Prix, Deglane, Dan Kolov, Bill Farrell, Yarygin*, and other international tournaments through their RTC. Plenty of opportunities for younger guys to go out and compete.

  20. Its always amazing to me to read these forums and see just how far behind the rest of country Tennessee is. Cleveland is the best team in the state and has been for 25 years. They're better funded than any other team here and it isnt really close. Yet they struggle to do anything nationally. I think the highest they were ranked last year was like 28th nationally. Its mind bottling. Sorry, back to college wrestling talk now.

  23. That was an improvement for sure. See what it can do with this. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2023/04/25/remarks-by-vice-president-harris-at-a-political-event-on-reproductive-rights/ So I think it’s very important — as you have heard from so many incredible leaders — for us, at every moment in time, and certainly this one, to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it, to understand where we exist in the history and in the moment as it relates not only to the past, but the future. That is a real quote. mspart

  25. Chittum leaving Iowa was inevitable. Which is why I mentioned he should go the Cejudo route. Anyone who had followed his story knew this would happen. Track record: Cleveland, TN School- average wrestling program. Left for greener pastures. McCallie private school- below average wrestling program. Left for greener pastures. Blair- best high school program in the country. Left for greener pastures. 3-4 years of home school and only training for major events- dad has complete autonomy. Went back to Cleveland High School for a semester. Won a state championship. Left for greener pastures. Committed to Minnesota. solid college program. Purchased an apartment there and trained for a year with the club. Left for greener pastures. Shopped around to every top 5 program in the country. Committed to Iowa but did not want to enroll. 2nd best college program. Leaving for greener pastures...

  28. I am sorry, but blaming the gun or Hollywood and/or corporations/NRA won't fix the problem...IMHO. While I don't agree 100% with everything @BerniePragle said, he brought up a good point that I think is one of the major causes and that is critical thinking...teaching kids logic and problem solving and thinking for themselves is what we need to bring back. And where does all that start?? Yep...that's right, at home!! But also in school and college. If a kid sees a violent film or plays a violent video game, there has to be strong parenting to discuss with the child what it is and what it isn't that they are watching/playing. Or schools need to get back to teaching the basics and critical thinking so kids can navigate through things in life. And just as important, they need discipline and taught that they will be held accountable for their actions. And let's all not forget the issue with mental health...we need to continue to make it okay to discuss these things. To be a parent that can identify this in their kids and have the resources to help them through it...and not just shoving pills down their throats. And once again, as far as the name calling and focusing in on sources and where the information came from, those things I can guarantee will NEVER do anything to stop innocent people from being killed.

  29. Is it true 7 out of 10 athletes at Iowa St were betting against this and 6 of 10 at Iowa for it?

  30. 1. Where does the money go? Presumably there is an initial offering and the athlete gets the proceeds. But what about future transactions? That is swapped between investors? And then the athlete has to go where they say? Surely you are not talking about buying and selling human beings. 2. Ignoring the legal implications of the above, why would I buy in the initial offering if I was not sure a majority of buyers were also voting to send the athlete to the same school as me? 3. What happens to my stock in 4/5 years? It will always trend to zero as eligibility winds down. When does that begin? After three years? Two? 4. Why would a stock be performance based? Combining boosterism with "fractional stock investing" insures it won't. If an athlete performs well it will be virtually impossible to get a majority to sell. Without a majority sale there would be no buyers, especially as the affects of the prior question kick in. 5. Other stuff I haven't thought of this early.

  32. I really hope this wasn't what happened. That would be exceptionally egregious. I remember in college the compliance people being very clear to not even bet on March Madness or Fantasy Football. It was made absolutely clear what the rules were, and I'm assuming it still is.

  33. The Russky and Chinois Navies are reportedly the gayest on the planet. Remember the French Foreign Legion? They are much like that, except not foreigners so much. Endless supply of Bud Lite on those ships. Nothing wrong with that. Can be had cheap if you don't mind a born-on date that is older than your socks.

  34. Small world. I am not AUSA or otherwise militarily affiliated. I did always dream of joining a service academy but it didn't work out for me (failed the medical exam because I has recently started taking prescription Aderall from my family doctor. They said they don't take people with ADHD (though it was never even officially diagnosed) My brother was an Air Force officer and has since left (though they did pay for his medical school which was the main point for him I think)

  39. "My theory is that he jumped ship because of my nickname for him, "The Gopher Choker." Dumber than dirt. Especially considering that Minnesota has the Thirteen Lined Ground Squirrel as the mascot, not a Gopher. That they are too stupid to know this doesn't matter - after all, they are in Minnesota. Home of the movie FARGO, produced by Minnesota guys to poke fun at their home State & the 'youpper' accents. Went so far as to name the movie FARGO - fooling the Minnesota folks completely. Just like with Gophers.

  40. That's just the way these things happen. A whole world of possibilities that were cut off from previous generations are now available. It'll may be chaotic for a bit trying to figure out the best ways to proceed. I imagine somethings will turn out to be harmful and we should address those. But lets not clutch our pearls at a 'family' being broken up. Maintaining a place that kids want to spend these important years has always been the goal of a staff. This just adds a new wrinkle. If they can't adapt and earn their pay they will be replaced with someone who can. Prior to this era there were few things an athlete could do to leave a less-than-ideal situation. Some will work to game the system, but that's not new. I feel privileged to be here watching this play out. Its exciting. Athletes have a little more control of their situation and can cash in a bit too. Let's steer into the skid and see where this wild ride takes us.

  42. This whole thread is completely asinine and so disingenuous it hurts my head. Between the name calling and the "post your proof"..."no you post your proof"...and my favorite..."that isn't true because they don't list their source". All of these types of statements are indicative of people not wanting to have an open and honest conversation. Was just talking about this with my son and parents yesterday...people seriously don't want to have open and honest conversations about guns and mass murder. We all are fed the opinions about guns and murders by completely and 100% biased information...and no one wants to open their minds to look at things from a different point of view. First off EVERYON agrees sensless killing is terrible and needs to stop. But one side isn't ready to have a conversation that the big bad gun isn't the root cause of the problem nor is the big bad AR15 an assault weapon nor a weapon of war (I'd take my dad's semiautomatic .284 rifle over an AR15...can have the same capacity with a much larger bullet and stopping power)...thos on the other side also need to open their minds to discussions about gun laws...not bans, but sensible gun laws. But EVERYONE needs to have the discussion around mental health and self-accountability/responsibility and being held responsible (aka., parenting!), which to me is what is completely eroding in this society. So, name calling and the back and forth of I know you are but what am I solves nothing, so if anyone wants to have an open conversation and is ready to learn others point of view, I'd love to have that conversation. And here is a start, if someone post something that you don't believe, or agree with, go look up the information yourself, saying the ownness is on the person who posted it to back it up is the first sign you are not at a point to have an open and honest discussion.

  43. Chittum lost to Drew Roberts (gopher) his last high school loss. Then he got smoked by Jamison at the US open not too long after. Chittums father has a large influence In where he landed (as with most top prospects) and in their last visit to MN he realized that Roberts was on the team as well. That scared the whole commitment. It wasn’t the sole reason, but it was a big part of it. NOW, the part that I don’t get is Jamison, Roberts, etc have stayed lower weight wise and Chittum has grown into a 157 (I think) and would still fit the roster. Money/teammate relationships came in to play big time at that point and Eggum couldn’t seal the deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
