Between season tickets for my two favorite teams, subscriptions to all the various services I need to watch wrestling, YouTube TV, contributing to an RTC, tickets and hotels for the big dance, I end up spending thousands of dollars a year on wrestling, more than I do on all my other entertainment (and other things like books and education) combined. Then I sit down for 2 hours and watch a JV performance from Cornell, Ohio State, and Flo. Ultimately wondering what the hell am I doing with my life. Anyway, time to go to my BJJ class3 points

I would suspect if I were lucky I may be in the 20th percentile on here. I wrestled Jr High (I'm that old) in 7th and 8th grades. 9th grade was still Jr High but I made Varsity so another kid and I got bussed to the High School (that was a big deal). I thought I was hot crap till I got stuck in my first match. I was probably a little over .500 for 9, 10, 11 grades. My highlight was beating the defending Sectional champ from our crosstown rival in 11th grade. He also happened to be my girlfriend's brother and a pompous ass, so it was extra cool. I didn't go to HS after that. Oh, I just remembered... I won an intramural (?) tournament my second year in college, I think. All I remember is in the finals I beat another Physics major, so in hindsight the weight class probably wasn't loaded, lol.3 points

Keegan and Carr spoke up before their match. Gave us confidence they would wrestle. Easy to do now. Just need one to ‘call out’ the other on Twitter or something else. Can do it respectfully. Maybe we need a hero that will track if wrestlers are publicly committing to wrestle big(ger) matches. If no public commitment, we can increase odds of it not happening and not change other plans to try and watch. Hero can even be the one to prompt commits / replies. Respected voice - tweets out to both guys. See if a firm and positive response comes back. Sucks to have to look for something like this. This likely won’t work. But hey .. spitballing.2 points

Bigger issues than abortion - I agree. Politicians and lawyers shouldn't make our medical choices for us. Any and all medical decisions should be made by us and our doctors, including abortion and everything else. Our medical choices need to be left in our hands. Medical freedom is far more important than any political party. We shouldn't entrust our medical decisions to politicians and lawyers - they are the most untrustworthy of all.2 points

And, how is it easier? I try to not expose myself to identity theft as much as possible by paying cash in person, etc. I also probably buy less online than most. Even with that I bet there's a dozen companies I'd have to change my CC info with. I know because my wife and I moved and I had to update our address on more places than I thought. But... They both got majorly screwed in their quest for truly notable careers with the rare feat of four finals. But to me the big victims were Pletcher, Moore, and Lugo. All three of them had put it all together in their last year, looked like the best at their weights, but never got the chance to win their elusive national championship.1 point

I give you the Swinging Gate of Death. Section of fence mounted on a poIe (it had grease fittings top and bottom). Had to ride my Huffy four miles to get to this. That’s not really how business operations works in the legal or customer experiences realms though. I’m going to get a bit personal when I say that I get your tough guy schtick and applaud the consistency no matter how many ellipses must be sacrificed, but maybe just once don’t mash the send button before thinking “does this help our niche sport’s bigger picture?”1 point

As of right now, there are 27 teams that have a chance at multiple All-Americans based on the average rank across Intermat, Flo, and Wrestlestat. Some of those teams are near certainties while others have a remote chance. To come up with the list I averaged everyone's rank across the three services. Then assuming ranks are equivalent to seeds (they won't be), I applied the historic seed results to determine the likelihood a given seed will AA. I have posted that likelihood graph before, but here it is again for reference. There is no surprise that PSU, Iowa and Nebraska are the top three. But Nebraska has the least room for error among the top 10 teams. Only PSU and Nebraska are expected to get more than 50% of their ranked wrestlers on the podium (71.6% and 58.7%, respectively). Purdue falls just short. Note: People always struggle with the decimals in this. What does 0.44 of a wrestler look like, they ask? Since these are probabilities the best way to think of it is the decimal represents the probability of rounding up and one minus the decimal represents the probability of rounding down. Using PSU as an example, they have a 56% probability of 6 AA's and a 44% probability of 7 AA's (that oversimplifies a bit in that it assumes those are the only two possible outcomes - they are not). I will update this when the actual NCAA seeds come out.1 point

Took a class with Terry Davis, the author, where we studied his book. I think he’d say that Louden was a curious observer of the human condition. He found homosexuality interesting, precisely because it was so foreign to him. He was not embarrassed to discuss or acknowledge those aspects of life/wrestling, just as he was not ashamed to admit he was obsessed with vaginas/women. His grandfather was a model of masculinity, which he also felt he didn’t meet, but that whole relationship was largely ignored in the screenplay.1 point

This makes me think back many years to a friend I had in college. We were both struggling to make any sense of some BS Social Science elective we were taking. I think it was Philosophy, Psycology or something where we were always looking for the reasons behind our actions. One day in class the professor brought up baseball players spitting. He explained that there were various reasons for it. The only two I can remember were because everyone else was doing it you had to follow along, and because someone you admired did it. My buddy muttered "Sometimes you just gotta spit" just loud enough so everyone could hear it. The class roared its approval. Sometimes you can way overthink things. Sometimes you just gotta spit. Sometimes you gotta strip to make weight. End of story. I sure didn't see all of this in the movie. Ignorance is Bliss, I guess.1 point

Thanks for posting this. Really making me think. Didn’t see any mention of the privileged white racism that never was addressed in the movie. Step up your game. (eye roll)1 point
