I just want to say that Griffith is making a mockery of modern college wrestling. First he is insubordinate. He refuses not to train when his school basically tells him not to and then he goes and wrestles in a national tournament after his school cancels his program. Then after he shamefully forced his school to keep his and many other programs which do not generate revenue but rather are just about student athletes, he disgracefully insists -- a national champion, no less! -- on wrestling at every opportunity. He takes on his top rival 4 times in a single year, who does he think he is? Kyle Dake? Tom Brands? Those guys are relics! And then this year he -- how gauche, a 2x NCAA finalist -- not only enters but actually wrestles in a holiday tournament. And then, to top it off, less than two weeks later he refuses to duck, and loses to, the guy who gave him all he wanted in the Scuffle final. I say this guy has violated so many norms of decent conduct that he should be canceled and never spoken of on these boards ever again.15 points

I thought it may be of general interest here - today is the last day on the job for Cornell Athletic Director Andy Noel. Also a former wrestling coach at Cornell, I think Andy has been a big part of Cornell Wrestling's success over the past decades. Here's a little tribute video posted on Facebook: Andy Noel. Thanks for all you've done, Andy!5 points

Indiana very rarely gets a thread made for their duals. Last two times they did, they achieved a victory against a formidable opponent. CC: @Southend3 points

Mich guy moving left, Mich St guy moving right, ref is watching, Mich guy pushes, Mich St guy steps forward, ref watching more, Mich guy backs up, Mich St guy goes forward, ref puts whistle in his mouth... but no whistle. Mich guy circles, Mich St follows. The crowd is electric.3 points

I feel like a shout-out to ND State is overdue too. They have 5 guys in the top 20, and are coming off a 2nd place finish at the Scuffle. This Caliendo kid is just a redshirt freshman. Coach Kish and his team must really be coaching these kids up. Kudos.3 points

I know, I know. Getting an early start here. When it was announced the TheMat forum was shutting down there was already a topic for predictions of this dual. Six fearless posters made weight by weight predictions and I decided to hang on to them in the hopes that a new forum would form. Well, here we are. Below are the predictions made by The Six. At least five of you have migrated to the new board: @flyingcement, @Barracuda141, @nhs67, @VakAttack, @Le duke. (Only MSU158 is missing in action, though he appears to be active on HR. Perhaps Vak can reach out to him and encourage his return). I wanted to do the same thing as last year and keep track of predictions for this dual. But a lot of water has gone under the bridge since late September / early October. So I also wanted to give The Super Six a chance to revise their predictions, or double down. This is what 2022 you thought. What says 2023 you? The Super Six Seers: Two for Iowa, two for PSU and two ties. I love symmetry.2 points

A lot of good duals this weekend... tonight on Flo... Oregon State vs Princeton. A few toss-ups and a few good ranked matchups.... Glory vs Kaylor - Glory is supposed to be going tonight at 125 Olguin Vs MOnday Harvey vs Stout I got Oregon State in a close match tonight.2 points

One of the most obvious headgear pulls by Glory you will ever see that was crucial for finishing a takedown. He grabs both the straps, then the ear guards. Officials go to look at it. Watch it happen in slow motion for 5 minutes, then come back on the mat and say "no evidence it happened." Embarassing. Why sign up for the job if you're afraid to do it?2 points

Indiana now up 12-10 after hero of the week, Nick South, pins Robert Kanniard at 165. Currently Donnell Washington is beating Turley and is pretty likely to win. Indiana having a little bit of a fun underdog moment. I fully expected them to lose to Maryland2 points

I'm reminded here of the Parable of the Poisoned Arrow in Buddhism: It's just as if a man were wounded with an arrow thickly smeared with poison. His friends & companions, kinsmen & relatives would provide him with a surgeon, and the man would say, 'I won't have this arrow removed until I know whether the man who wounded me was a noble warrior, a priest, a merchant, or a worker.' He would say, 'I won't have this arrow removed until I know the given name & clan name of the man who wounded me... until I know whether he was tall, medium, or short... until I know whether he was dark, ruddy-brown, or golden-colored... until I know his home village, town, or city... until I know whether the bow with which I was wounded was a long bow or a crossbow... until I know whether the bowstring with which I was wounded was fiber, bamboo threads, sinew, hemp, or bark... until I know whether the shaft with which I was wounded was wild or cultivated... until I know whether the feathers of the shaft with which I was wounded were those of a vulture, a stork, a hawk, a peacock, or another bird... until I know whether the shaft with which I was wounded was bound with the sinew of an ox, a water buffalo, a langur, or a monkey.' He would say, 'I won't have this arrow removed until I know whether the shaft with which I was wounded was that of a common arrow, a curved arrow, a barbed, a calf-toothed, or an oleander arrow.' The man would die and those things would still remain unknown to him.2 points

We need a term for this? Hmm... guy walks into a 20 page thread, drops a comment that makes you think he knows the outcome...and the comment could go either way. Hmm....what do we call this?2 points

Please give some examples of Lee trying to break an opponent's arm or throwing racial slurs before worlds. Because that is what you directly compared Spencer Lee against, and the majority of the country has seen him act as a consummate professional in an amateur sport since he was a college freshman. Everyone loves a good heel turn but c'mon. His biggest character flaw is he... pinned a teammate and didn't high five his coach?2 points

My son is two years old and that's how he pronounces "Alexa". He also says "yittle" instead of "little", "doorbew" instead of "doorbell", etc. It's very common for children that age to have a hard time pronouncing Ls, among other sounds.2 points

Charging so much Holding a monopoly on watching high school state tournaments. I remember watching the PIAA State Wrestling Tournament on WQED Channel 13 (Public Television) in Pittsburgh since the late 1960s. Up until what 3-4 years ago, there is no local access to watch the state tournament unless you want to buy a subscription to Flo. We can watch all other high school sports' season finales: soccer, cross country, football, basketball on television etc. etc. but not wrestling. One Flow employee said this was good for the sport. Seems like he either doesn’t like cutting weight or it is just too big a pull. Either way, why completely kill any enjoyment he has for the sport. This is a sport people. You should do it because you like to do it. Let’s find more ways for young people to start to like the sport and then keep their enjoyment levels high!! Those pushing hard / demoralizing weight cuts should reassess.2 points

Ahh...is that funny? This has been over ad nauseum. It's not Bono's call. It was the Athletic Departments. They supported allowing him wrestling. They couldn't sign a sheet that said he was not provided the opportunity as he CLEARLY was. He choose to leave because they recruited Lamont. And he choose to not educate himself on the rules with regard to transferring. Now, the Badger came out and very clearly said, "we did not inform him when he had to transfer by," in an effort to support his appeal. Ignorance of the rules didn't work. And then I'm sure Rivera and Clark after Lamont probably contributed to his decision. But recruiting a transfer with a more successful resume does not equate to a lack of opportunity. So he could be wearing a Neb, Wisconsin or NDST logo, it doesn't change the facts. It's entirely up to the NCAA at this point. There was nothing else Wisconsin could have done other than lie and say Burwick had absolutely no opportunity at Wisconsin...which was obviously NOT the case.2 points

4) Mispronouncing wrestlers names. It's pure cringe. 5) Serving ads in the video stream that we have already paid for. 6) Trying to manage your own tech stack. Farm it out to someone who knows how to do it. 7) Trying to do events without having a single dry run before you go live. 8.) Attempting to fill space in a video stream with mindless babbling. If nothing is happening, don't feel compelled to speak. 9) Failing to test your software on various browser/OS combinations. 10) Letting Pyles announce matches. He. Is. Terrible. No, really. So bad.2 points

Thanks for sharing the 2nd article there. The voting on NCAA rules changes for DII and DIII will be on Saturday morning, so that's when the season change stuff would be determined for DIII. DI uses a different process where it seems like the various committees make more of the decisions. Two DI changes worth noting from a wrestling standpoint 1. The DI Council voted to eliminate the voluntary coach designation across Division I, instead including those coaches within a new limit for countable coaches in each of the applicable sports. Wrestling will now have four allowable coaches (1 head + 3 assistants). https://www.ncaa.org/news/2023/1/11/media-center-division-i-council-modernizes-rules-for-coaching-limits.aspx 2. Tennis is doing a two year experiment where the individual championships happen in the fall and the team championship happens in the spring. It's the closest thing to a dual/individual championship situation some have angled for in the wrestling world. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2023/1/11/media-center-di-committee-approves-2-year-pilot-program-for-tennis-championships.aspx2 points

Carter Starocci. He can clearly back it up, but based on post -match interviews he seems pretty arrogant - especially for a guy that is so vocal about his faith.2 points

I sort of want this to be constructive, and someone has to since flo cant handle comments on their website and pyles gets scared and blocks all the mean twitter people... Please stop... 1) asking people if they like hostile enviroments and tough opponents, we know the answer. 2) Labeling things "insider"...you're not an insider. 3) Showing us nick suriano for no reason. Once he's weighed in at a competition I care, but until then no one cares about where he is boucning to next....I'd be one thing is these pieces had any information in them but it tend to be stuff I get on twitter (even with the Flo bros and most other wrestling media people muted).1 point

I've often wondered if the best way to offer wrestling would be to just show the dual with the match and team scores in the corner with the wrestlers names. Only sound would be the crowd, ref, etc. As close as possible to you simply being there. It's not like the typical amateur wrestling fan wants the hoopla of the WWE. I dont need or want all the "backstory", to be told the wrestlers favorite "finishing move", etc. Heck, I'm not even a fan of the current NCAA finals broadcast with the smoke machines, immediate post-match interview, and such drama. Give me 1963 with color and high def.1 point

The kid is a stud. He had some good wins last year and has shown noticeable and steady improvement from the start of the season. Almost expected when he gets to train with Franek and Michael Weber every day. Look out for him in March.1 point

I always envisioned him coming home from a hard days work at the cement factory, kicking off his boots, sitting in his lazy boy with his Blue Heeler dog and watching some flo with a pizza and a beer..... but no, it's a townhouse in LA. I was WAYYYYY off.1 point

Way back when, for Christmas we bought our older daughter one of those blow-up clown punching bags with the weighted bottom. She not only punched it, she tackled it, kicked it, and sat on it and bounced up and down. My wife and I laughed and laughed. I think she was 2. She outgrew it in about a week.1 point

Minnow currently running a hit campaign on Alvarez ,trying to be Goodales full time propagandist…saw on his twitter that allegedly Alvarez missed weight 10 plus times which doesn’t seem correct, also after 3 times thats probably on the coaches and apparently he “cost Rutgers valuable post season points” which idk what the hell that means ..like did Rutgers finish 9th in the big 10 instead of 8th? Or 27th at ncaas instead of 25th? Valuable postseason team points lmao I had to take a picture of the thread it’s so amusing either way if you have an athlete miss weight 10x you are a s**t coach bc it’s obviously after 3/4 times that the athlete shouldn’t even be attempting it …what do you even say as a coaching staff after the 7th time “ don’t worry Sammy you’ll make it this time , just another 2 hrs in the sauna and keep spiting”1 point
