Actually, my life is far from gloomy. I’m a free human being living in a dictatorship. You, on the other hand, are a prisoner of ignorance living in a free country. A person like me stays free even in prison - but someone like you is in chains no matter where you go.4 points

even if he beats him now, in an exhibition, while taylor is coaching and nickal is training....no one cares. this is like when he gets bored and begs for attention on twitter.2 points

The best part about these updates is that Askren still seems like Askren. Sharp, thoughtful, smart. Sounds more or less like the Ben we know, which is great to hear.2 points

Nickal has got to be one of the most annoying guys in recent memory to come out of NCAA wrestling... The entitlement and arrogance he speaks with on his podcasts is nauseating. He's the kind of guy that is either figuratively or literally going to get punched in the mouth in his life and hopefully is force-fed some humble pie.2 points

read up on what’s involved with lung transplant surgery - and now this young man is speaking to the world after what he went through. Truly an inspiration to the wrestling community and humanity everywhere. Im thankful for the forum members here posting these timely updates. You care, we do to. Thank you.2 points

Pat Christenson (University of Wisconsin) was an NCAA champ (167) in 1977. Prior to that, he had never placed at the NCAA nor did he place at the state meet while in high school (Wisconsin). Came out of nowhere.2 points

None taken; gave me an excuse to add an avatar pic so I could make that joke. I will push back on Oregon St being the so called new kid on the block. They certainly can't match Okie St cause no one can; but they are like 4th in D1 history in dual meet wins (I believe only Okie St, Iowa St, and Iowa have more program wins) and have a Hodge winner. Just giving them a little respect is all2 points

My brother was a survivor of Dr. Strauss and an ongoing victim of Ohio State (stealing a line from the doc). I was a mediocre wrestler at Oregon State. My brother is 6 years younger than me and was highly recruited. I had not heard good things about Coach Hellickson from people I trusted and tried to talk him out of going to Ohio State. He had friends there, and he really loved Coach Jordan. He is not interviewed in the documentary, but his name does appear prominently during the portion of the doc where they are highlighting the names of the guys being interviewed on the original lawsuit filing, below Coleman's name. He was warned by some of his teammates and fellow plaintiffs not to watch it. But he was at kid nationals in Iowa and his roommate fell asleep watching HBO. My brother woke up to the documentary about 10 minutes in. Called me in the middle of the night completely falling apart. After all, he was going to be in the UNI-Dome the next day with scores of people he knew. He got through that OK, although there was one guy who kept harassing him about it, "It wasn't really that bad. Why didn't you just kick his ass, etc." One of my brother's people got rid of that guy. The suffering continues for these men. The current administration at Ohio State is trying to wash their hands of it: "it happened before we were here...statute of limitations...etc." But they continued to take actions to cover it up, because they knew it went deeper than the 177 original plaintiffs. Now for my mea culpa: My brother went from a star student committed to a championship lifestyle to struggling with school and substance abuse. For years, I resented him for "wasting" the talent and all his hard work. He continued to wrestle, NAIA AA, OTC Athlete, etc. but was a shadow of himself. I blamed him for it, and of course, we all make our choices. Like I tell my athletes, "There are reasons for things not excuses." I mostly cut him out of my life for a handful of years. Fortunately, a sports psychologist at the OTC recognized there was something else going on with him and he got help, even though it wasn't until years later that he unearthed the horrors he endured. He came to watch my son compete in Pocatello in 2012 and it was the first time he had anything to do with wrestling in years. He is now a great coach and mentor to kids. We are closer than we have ever been but I will never forgive myself for my lack of empathy and anger toward him. There are hundreds and hundreds of stories like his. Strauss destroyed what these men could have been. Ohio State could have stopped it. It is on record that the athletic administration, and Coach Hellickson, knew about it before my brother enrolled in Columbus. They could have stopped it. They could have warned him. But they didn't. I have a special distaste for Congressman Jordan. But, as my mental health professional wife once pointed out, it is quite possible that Jim was a victim as well. Yes, he went to U of Wisc. but he was an Ohio phenom and I am sure he spent plenty of time in Columbus.2 points

Who's going? Anyone from this forum want to make a plan to get together and put faces to avatars, drink some beer and become besties for life over our love of wrestling? Let me know . . .I'll make T-shirts!1 point

Yes, but my point is that's now how anything works. Much more likely that the person actually has to be out of the school or off the team at the start of next season. Also, if they immediately revoked his NIL, it's extremely unlikely he would even consider staying. More likely this was a situation where cooler heads prevailed and Gabe came hat in hand, and his situation remains unchanged. As to Bassett, again, there's no evidence or reports of that, and it makes zero sense to do given the fact everybody knows that NIL is about to change so this was the last deal going to be given out like this by Iowa.1 point

Me thinks they don't go far enough. They should eliminate all gas and diesel fuel in the state. California has the perfect climate so they don't need air-conditioning or heat/furnaces. They can go back to lighting their homes with whale oil. They have a big coast and lots of whales in the pacific no? Don't just go green ... go extreme green!1 point

Didn't want to start a whole new thread just for this, so posting here: so yesterday, I'm out running in this ridiculous heat, decide to hit up a corner store for something cold. I spot this drink that says ENERGY, ZERO SUGAR, and BLUEBERRY, and am immediately like, "yeah, that sounds good" without really paying attention to the rest of the can. Only after buying it do I notice the bigass, extremely obvious Nittany Lion and Happy Valley United on the front. HVU sounded vaguely familiar, like maybe a PSU soccer club or somethign, and I didn't think too much of it at first. But when I got home I looked up the product and found out that it's a PSU NIL drink! HVU is PSU's NIL Collective and proceeds go towards the school's NIL slush fund. Ptoo! Ptoo! Next time, I'm either reading the can like a book or just sticking to water. Lesson painfully learned!!1 point

This is God getting back at the State of Ohio for running Joseph Smith and the Mormons out in the 1830's. Surprised they did not put an Oath of Vengeance in their Temple ceremony against the State of Ohio as they did against the USA after they left the USA when they moved to Mexican Territory after being run out of Illinios. If Cael leaves Penn State maybe he can coach Ohio State?1 point

Was this the raid where they found ms13 and illegal alien children working the weed fields ?1 point
-
No, I don't. It's not like there's official documentation filed saying "you are dismissed. " The Bassett thing even less likely as that seems like it was a unilateral Bassett decision based on their feelings about Iowa compliance's interpretation of the rule. Basically that seems like they got jealous of what Forrest was getting.1 point

It's pretty normal to post tweets here. You're the first I've seen criticize doing so and I haven't seen you complain about it until now. The timing is probably a coincidence. Regardless, the tweets are relevant here. Relevant factors: an award to a collegiate wrestler, the wrestler has been accused of some awful things, SafeSport is apparently looking into it, SafeSport was apparently unaware until some time in June (probably after June 14, the wife of an affected wrestler posted about it (the wife has been a frequent topic here), a poster noted the response from some PSU fans has been in poor taste, you said said the poster is making it up, the poster provided evidence You were wrong. It happens. Better to just acknowledge it and move on rather than move the goal posts and pretend it's a problem for someone to share a tweet on here.1 point

I'm not telling you what to believe. If you choose to not form an opinion, I see no problem with that. There are four separate accusers who have spoken publicly. Three kept their names hidden from the public and one who didn't. Personally, I believe Beau.1 point
