ESPN dropped the Pac12 as part of the whole football conferences realignment thing; left wrestling a free agent so to speak for streaming

And that leaves LIU as the final team to release their schedule . . . which I'm assuming will come sometime before Saturday

I am going to Gardner-Webb this year just to see TK Davis wrestle in a home dual; worth it. His redshirt year he went to Black Knight and lost 15-0 to Nagao but I said to my buddy I was with that he was raw but had some serious potential. I was in on the ground floor of the TK Davis bandwagon. I hope he AA's this year for Gardner-Webb; especially in THAT 133 field? Would be a notable accomplishment. He'll graduate this spring so I bet he portals next year and will get paid by someone.

FWIW - while I don't know exactly what they are/aren't testing for. I know the B1G does drug testing randomly at B1G competitions; by which I mean random competitions not randomly at all competitions. Of the B1G championships I was involved in from an event/facility management side of things, two had drug testing. One was a team sport and 3 athletes from each competing team were randomly picked for the piss test. The other was an individual sport (think wrestling, swimming, track, etc) and in that one the winner of each weight/discipline and one other random entrant were drug tested for all weights/disciplines. There were more B1G championships that I oversaw that had no drug testing but every B1G championship I was involved in had a line in the packet that said all competitors may be subject to drug testing.

I agree, if the Beavs have a bad year at NCAAs again than they should go get a superstar head coach - I propose Cael Sanderson; I think he could win in Corvallis Jokes aside, at least for me "make or break" this year means that if the Beavs have a finish to the season that is close to what happened last year than I'm just not going to be fully bought in that Pendelton is the guy. If the administration decides to move on, I'm okay with it. I don't think I would be hammering my key board clammering for a change either (at least not yet). It's a hard job; location for sure does not help but I do think having a real conference should have them better prepared for NCAAs and when they did have that 2022 season they had more of a conference (Arizona St/Stanford). Now that Pendelton has kinda secured the future (to me it feels like he did a lot of the leg work of bringing in new schools to boost the conference) I'm hoping he can turn his attention back to actual coaching. Either the ship gets right this year or it's time to start thinking about following a new wind

You are not wrong there; they can sometimes pull a quality kid out of CA but largely isolated (for shame Oregon) - need another PNW school to pick up the sport (Gonzaga?) to help drive wrestling top down to the youth level

You are right; that 2022 was an awesome tourney - I had high hopes that Pendleton was gonna be nails at getting guys to peak at the right time. I was still totally on board up through this past tourney - that was a disappointment in so many facets; especially Renteria and JRad not even coming close to the podium. This past March is the first I've really started to question things . . . There's been a little bad luck (2 years in a row Beavs 197 beat someone who would go on to AA in their opening match and then not podium - Munoz in particular had a tough draw), Wittlake's accident, Olguin's injuries (Olguin was absolutely good enough to podium). I really liked their staff when it was Engel and Rhoden but both of them moved out of college coaching to spend more time w/ family (can't really fault them - I also left working in college athletics to spend more time w/ family). I heard a lot of smoke that they tried to land Mark Hall as assistant coach this summer but landed w/ Traub after Hall got a nice raise to stay in Oklahoma. Maybe Traub is a good coach, I don't know but it feels anticlimatic. I've head the new Oregon St AD (started this summer) is giving the wrestling program more resources so maybe brighter days are ahead. The coping in me tells me that not having a true conference the past 2 years has hurt them particularly w/ recruiting and they'll be better prepared this year and moving forward but that could be orange colored glasses. There is a handful of guys who I don't know if they are at the right weight class. I firmly believe JRad should be a heavyweight. Be 230ish lbs and athletic for college and drop to 213 for your freestyle career feels like the best path to success for him; he really fell off at the end of last season and I think it was the cut getting to him. CJ Hamblin trying to go 149 likely cost him an NCAA berth. There's still been developmental success, Stiles was an AA out of nowhere, Munoz was 3rd recently but they've really struggled to replicate that 2022 run. Nash Singleton I think has gotten better every year. I worry Pendleton and crew have had to do so much off the mat stuff that they haven't been able to actually coach like they want and that's been the issue. Just some jumbled collection of thoughts in some semblance of an order; curious what anyone else thinks outside looking in that might not have as biased a view

Keep in mind I'm "watching" but it's running on the side monitor while I'm working so not totally dialed in on it; I thought he was very active - every time a flurry of movement caught my eye and I looked over it was him initiating but it makes sense if he was using it as a defensive strategy. But ya, in general - he took bronze and seemed more "aggressive" in attempting action but that could have just been happenstance as I was doing the 9-5 - was just curious and figured I would ask an actual Greco question to ya - appreciate the response

@LJB the Norwegian that took bronze at 87kg who beat Altomer; Ljosaak - to the untrained eye (mine) he caught my attention and I enjoyed watching him. To the more trained Greco eye (yours) does he have legit chops/potential?
