Absolute stud as a coach. We have been around him 2-3 times running camps, and he is able to show/explain positions very well. I think he will be a good/great one.6 points

Yeah, let's listen to what is coming out of Aaron Brooks' camp for what happened.. Last year he popped positive and the issue was later fixed. If he didn't learn how diligent he needs to be about what he puts into his body after that, then I don't feel bad for him. Second, how dumb do you have to be to take something that replenishes your hormones without asking if it's legal first? If he had low-t would he just go take some testosterone boosters because the doc said he was low? DHEA was likely the mask for whatever he was actually doing. If it wasn't then he is just an absolute moron for taking hormone boosters without checking if they were legal. He's a cheat, he's dumb, or he's a dumb cheat. If he's dumb enough to take two different "meds" in a calendar year that caused failed USADA tests, then he deserves whatever criticism he gets. I don't know of any legitimate cases of people "accidentally" failing USADA tests. That's just the default excuse. With all of the knowledge given to athletes and with what is at stake with a false test, it would be pretty tough to be that naive.4 points

I guess it was pre-ordained that I become a wrestling fan. It just took me this long to find out. From the 1947 Official Wrestling Guide: ------------------------------------------------------------ Water Wrestling By CHARLES McCAFFREE, Jr. Editor, Official Swimming Guide Water wrestling from the standpoint of the wrestler may be characterized as employing all of the legal and illegal hold and breaks of intercollegiate wrestling and hand-to-hand combat. It has three characteristics which are not found in regular wrestling: most of the breaks, defensive and offensive techniques, are performed in the vertical position; the leverage enjoyed by the mat is not present,. the only substitute for this leverage being obtained by placing foot, knee or other leverage points on the opponent's body as the hold is applied; the body is Usually submerged and demands breath control and closing the nostrils and mouth while applying holds and making breaks. If played for keeps, water wrestling is mayhem, or even murder. There is no place a man is more uncomfortable and helpless than in the water unless he has mastered the fundamentals of watermanship and swimming. A strong, well-conditioned wrestler is at such a disadvantage in the water, unless he is skilled in water work, that it is really tragic that our boys are not taught watermanship and swimming at an early age. A man on the mat may suffer defeat or broken limbs, but in the water, he may lose his life. Water wrestling is the most advanced stage of training in the water beyond watermanship, swimming and diving, life saving and water safety. The unconventional, the unorthodox, the unexpected may happen to a man in the water, as his opponent is not governed by rules, but by that driving force to survive at all cost. A man about to drown does not consider his opponent in a rational way, but grabs hold and does everything within his power to keep himself afloat at the expense of his would-be rescuer or anyone else at hand. Each and every man should be schooled in watermanship, swimming and diving, life saving, and water safety to be capable of warding off an opponent and taking care of himself in the water. Equipped with this knowledge and ability, water wrestling becomes second nature to him and except for the advanced defensive and offensive skills, he will most likely be capable of countkring almost any hold put on him. The same satisfaction of outmaneuvering a man and pinning him is enjoyed in this water activity. In time of war the key word in the water is survival-Take Care of Yourself First and then, if you have the ability, save your adversary. The whole water world has been schooled for years in life saving and water safety skills and it seems unjust now to throw overboard all of those techniques if in conjunction with survival they can be mastered. A two-fold purpose is our teaching goal: break free yourself from any water hold, and then, if possible and if you are capable, save your opponent. The field of water wrestling combines the techniques of water safety, life saving, judo and hand-to-hand combat. All of the techniques should be carefully taught and skillfully applied in practice to avoid injury. The novice should not attempt to use these techniques before he has acquired a measure of all around watermanship and swimming ability, otherwise .a tenseness of the muscles and mental fear is called forth, which is some- times hard to overcome.3 points

I forget the exact interview, but last year after OTT, he really came off arrogant and disrespectful, especially in regards to DT. His lack of humility and the disrespect for David Taylor rubbed many, including myself, the wrong way. When you supplant an aging legend of the sport, have some class and respect for what they accomplished, at least in the public eye. And I would say that is still a lesser offense than the one mentioned by @BigRedFan.3 points

Why do people constantly create threads about topics, so they can be discussed, but not follow through on the "rumors" when people ask to know why this might be the case? You're curious enough to ask and/or participate, but not curious enough to put the information out on the wire that you heard from a dude who heard from another dude who heard from his friend at the deli. We all know lots of it tends to be played up or exaggerated, so if you make the thread and you have the info, at least be decent enough to provide the full context, instead of just leaving an "Ooooh, look, did you hear thing about person in place? Bc I heard person from other place said different thing about same person, and with a slightly different context..."3 points

I think there are a couple things that are bothersome out of the gate with how this has been handled by yourself and others from the start but since you are at least willing to discuss it, I respect the engagement. The few observations I had from the beginning was the manner in which you spoke about it to begin with seemed to take the side of and I'm paraphrasing "this is a beau problem and he needs to shut up or put out a public account" (which he ultimately did in the article) As wrestling personalities, you speculate on things all the time within the sport ie results/outcomes, transfers etc... This seemed to be something that struck some kind of nerve given your initial reaction vs giving an objective viewpoint. The bias was apparent from the start which is fine I suppose. The problem for some of us is that we know and are aware of your many connections within the wrestling community, teams and sources close to the matter and it would seem pretty easy for you to make a couple calls to hear what others would have to say or corroborate Beau's report. There clearly are others that also came forward anonymously as well so this isn't just about Beau. He even stated the sides are not himself and Penn state. I think there was a way to talk about this and report on everything that was said in the article and have a discussion around its merits, and potentially consequences for all should it be true (which you could get a sense of from your sources.) a couple things are possible: 1. This is incendiary as all hell and you don't want any part in talking about it which is fine, maybe just explicitly state you feel personally uncomfortable talking about (your initial characterization of Beau felt like you were overly dismissive of him vs taking a middle of the road stance) 2. You know there could be consequences in talking about this in the vein of falling out of favor with your sources and connections and chose to preserve those over speaking about this publicly. 3. Maybe you did call and no one talked to your or advised you to be careful and not to draw attention to it so that people wouldn't be viewed in a bad light. One thing is certain though and that ship sailed as soon as the article came out. I just think if this were a different topic you would have gone all in at getting information but because it could be damaging you took the hands off approach which hasn't seemed to be your style on most other things. You could have called the guy that wrote the article for more context as well. speaking about the situation and its potential ramifications is not irresponsible and frankly what the biggest news is in the sport right now. One thing is certain, if you chose to talk more about this, you'd get a lot more clicks, eyes and ears on your content because that's what people want to hear about right now right wrong or indifferent.2 points

of swimming, diving, and wrestling....Mark Lenzi won Olympic Gold in diving in '92 and then earned Bronze in '96. He was a district champ in wrestling before deciding to focus on diving. I beat him once in a summer tournament and revisionist history joke I make is it was that defeat that led him to hang up the shoes and try to be the next Louganis. Added bonus - I beat an Olympic Gold medalist in wrestling.2 points

Now when someone says something is a nothing burger, it almost immediately sounds alarm bells in my mind that there is probably more there than they are letting on or there is a hidden agenda to not talk about it...2 points
-
Pretty much this. It was the rapid shift from "nothingburger" to the only 5x champ in NCAA history who is knocking on the door of senior world and Olympic teams being told to leave immediately. It warrants further discussion and logical folks are rightfully asking if there is bias. Wrestling is a sport on life support; this is an example of scenario fans are asking for deeper insight into; perhaps this is the type of media and content and journalism shift to acquiesce. Just throwing it out there.2 points

I think a lot of Ohio State wrestling fans will be rooting for Lehigh wrestlers with him in their corner. So great to see him coaching and back home too. It was mindblowing. He knew more than anyone else what was taken away from him. Yet even before sentencing he could say that. Absolutely an incredible person.2 points

Hmm. Mark Ruffalo played the investigative reporter who uncovered the catholic church scandal in Spotlight. Mark Ruffalo played wrestling legend Dave Schultz who was murdered by lunatic John DuPont in Foxcatcher. Mark Ruffalo played the lawyer who uncovered the DuPont chemical spill in Dark Waters. Maybe Mark Ruffalo is who we need to solve this situation. Or maybe we need somebody to step up who can later be portrayed by Mark Ruffalo in a movie?2 points

Put wrestlers in a pool and sooner or pool wrestling will occur. I had a HS 'mate who was 6'5" and wrestled 185 (state qualifier). He was also a good (local level) competitive swimmer. That dude was the king of pool wrestling.2 points

Wrestling doesn't really have journalist in the traditional sense. They have content creators. When was the last time a story came out that the subject of the story didn't bless? Even when stories do come out, the "wrestling media" will often make comments like, I heard about this previously or I got a text saying something similar but didn't want to say anything or it wasn't my news to share, etc... There probably isn't a market ($$) for a reporter and information would probably dry up quickly if stuff was actually reported when its first learned about. I don't have an issue with this but the confusion between what is wrestling media/journalist and a content creator seems to be really bothering people that want the sport to be covered like basketball and football.2 points

He would slide in pretty well at 174 for them. 125: Kael Laurisden / Alan Koehler 133: Jacob Van Dee 141: Brock Hardy 149: Chance Lamer 157: Antrell Taylor 165: Chris Minto 174: Gabe Arnold 184: Silas Allred 197: Camden McDanel 285: AJ Ferrari On paper that could be upwards of 10 qualifiers and 9 All-Americans.2 points

The he-wasnt-competing-therefore-he-couldnt-possibly-be-cheating narrative is a lame narrative. Dopers dope. They dope whether there is a competition at the end of the season or not. Plenty of athletes, including wrestlers, got caught, kept blasting gear, came back as good if not better only to get caught again. In fact, doping when there is not a looming competition is eggsactly when it's most advantageous to ingest trenbolone sandwiches. That's how cycling works. The other reason why this is a dumb narrative is that Aaron himself said he was planning on competing at final X up until he got sick in In this here interview so he could have been juicing all season long. People aren't buying the eggscuses because the story is dumb and flimsy, for various reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam. Furthermore, how many people do you know that, after suffering through a serious illness, tell themselves: "you know what I could use right now? Some amateur recreational trifling with my hormones" Finally, I believe a good portion of the response to this story stems from the asshole rule: when you act like a tool, you forfeit a good deal of grace and patience. Nowhere is that rule more on display than with Carter Starocci right now, for example.2 points

I think each of our peoples respect the others cultures and people. the govts of all have good and bad ways of trying to gain popularity and strength and remain in power. Many of our govt policies were reactionary, to extremists. our help in removing soviet and British policy was muddied with the support for the shah, but then innocents were held hostage in 79. So now you have bad sentiment among voters and the people. So the many innocent Iranians are grouped with this bad event bolstered by idology. We also have many Iranians here living peacefully and denouncing some of your oppression and here of their struggles and imprisonment. Maybe many here are too uneducated please keep explaining. We do not see active rallies here denouncing your country only social media blurbs.1 point
