Sounds like a transfer to Ohio State is in the works because they don't work on escapes in high-pressure situations6 points

F'n Davis, still can't hit a leg attack when he needs to: "After a struggle, Davis was subdued by police. Police noted that after the struggle, Davis broke the officer’s wristwatch and radio earpiece, and ripped the body camera out of the officer’s vest."5 points

It's a lot of fun to do if you are thinking about it Rodent. I can't say I did good, but it was fun. I was bound and determined I would not lose due to passivity, so I initiated action and my inexperience and lack of ability got me in trouble from there. But I had a blast doing it. mspart5 points

In a somewhat related note, Monmouth NJ trying to get to D1. https://outlook.monmouth.edu/2025/04/wrestling-for-more-monmouths-club-team-pushes-for-d1-status/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJ3rSdleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFwdnZPc2dHcnBqRGRjVGxtAR7FBufxVM8VXuPzSbojWdWUf3iqjbl5f7ChkeDQDEKrzsg_dTZWm-DXyxRftg_aem_GrCtYlVu8uojwRW101vscA3 points

As a Cowboy fan I’ll always love dunking on OU. But they do have a former AA in Peyten Kellar and DeAnthony Parker made it to the R12 last year. Wells was a R12 guy a couple years ago and it sounds like he’s moving up so he’s not sucked down at 133 anymore.3 points

Round of 16 174 lbs. Sergio Desiante in the portal from Chattanooga. He has two years left. He was 23-4 last year with wins over Gaven Sax (2x) and Lennox Wolak. Him and Isaiah Powe are both in the portal. Along with Boarman they lost three qualifiers from the last two years. But they did pick up Hunter Mason and Carter Neves.3 points

I read into the concept of "crushed" the net yield and roster impact. PSU got two wrold medalists and hard to see any crushing blow the roster.2 points

I did Veterans FS from 2000-2002. It was fun. They look a lot slower, but I found out I was a lot slower as well. It all evens out. They used to have guys in the F division that did not look good at all. Kudos for getting out there but scary due to injury possibilities. Fortunately, they were not that quick or strong so danger was not high. But falling down could be a problem. I am now in the E category. I hurt my shoulder wrestling and my neck in a car accident. I don't do the competition anymore. They all outclass me anyway. But I did continue asst coaching HS until a few years ago. mspart2 points

This actually makes the kid more likeable. Not one of those Jesus-crazed robots that fill out the rest of the PSU roster. What's more concerning is that he was taken down and ridden out by a cop.2 points

There will be a lot smaller field for the challenge tournament to navigate through and the 2nd best guy won't be there.2 points

Schools that opt to the House settlement may offer up to 30 full scholarships. Doesn't mean they will. This is the part where we need to remind ourselves that schools opting in to the settlement - the Power 4/5 schools are mandated to accept to the settlement terms - are doing so to push money to their football and basketball players, not to non-revenue sports like wrestling. Looking at the terrain of D1 wrestling, I would be very concerned that MAC and SOCON schools will actually reduce their spending on wrestling to prop up their football and basketball teams.2 points

Sucks that Sam Latona played a part in the 141 bust! Really hate the way he went out with his hand injury. He was such a great representative of VT for his career and deserved a better potential ending.2 points

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 2, 2025) – The National Duals Invitational, a groundbreaking $1 million collegiate wrestling event sponsored byPaycom, has announced the qualification process for the inaugural 16-team bracket. Featuring top programs from across the country, this high-stakes tournament will bring together elite competition and unprecedented prize money to the BOK Center in Tulsa this fall. Automatic entry will be awarded to the top 12 teams in the final 2025 NCAA Division I standings: Penn State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Cornell, NC State, Northern Iowa, Illinois, Virginia Tech and Michigan. To secure their spots, these 12 teams must complete their participation agreements by April 15. Final teams will be listed on the website as they are confirmed. “While we know this is not an accurate representation of dual team rankings, we believe it will ensure that the event features some of the best competition in the country,” said Matt Surber, Tournament Director. “I’m excited to see additional participation as we grow the sport of wrestling.” The remaining spots will be filled through a random drawing on April 24 from teams that finished 13-24 in the NCAA standings. The teams competing for these final spots are Purdue, Missouri, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, Little Rock, Arizona State, Stanford, West Virginia, Navy, Wyoming, South Dakota State, Indiana, Maryland and Oregon State. The premier 16-team event will feature a total purse of more than $1 million. The top eight teams will earn payouts, with the winning squad walking away with $200,000. The second- and third-place teams will earn $150,000, while fourth place earns $75,000. Fifth through eighth place payouts will be: $50,000, $40,000, $25,000, and $20,000, respectively. All participating teams will receive $20,000 for attending. Thirty-four-time NCAA champion Oklahoma State will serve as the host school. This event will be held at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., on Nov. 15-16. Learn more at nationaldualsinvitational.com.1 point

Just about everyone that said Dake will lose was wrong. Only exception is Burroughs. And then he beat Burroughs finally. I would not count Dake out, not even close. But if they are on opposite sides of the bracket, I think they will be the finalists. Zahid can do it, but Dake doesn't lose. So there is that. mspart1 point

Colleges sell education. There are these things called classes they can take. I may recommend personal finance or a financial literacy class. If you’re going to make a bazillion off wrestling…. It’s probably worth the time to take an extra elective class. Shyte they’re hardly paying for college as it is. Maybe if they weren’t taking fluff majors and taking college seriously they would learn something. Why limit bad business decisions to athletes. Humans make bad business decisions all the time. Should colleges offer free advice for them? it’s literally a giant campus literally dedicated to higher education and Learning lol1 point

All of the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 12 schools are automatically opted in. That is something like 25 schools. The Ivies (6 schools) have said they will opt out. I am not aware of what the other schools have said. The settlement does not impact D1 membership or access to D1 championships.1 point

I wrestled D2. Graduated in early 90s. I had a teammate qualify for the d1 tourney. Another guy, my roommate was 5th in D2 and had multiple wins over qualifiers including splitting with a R12 guy, including a win by major in their last meeting as seniors. A lot has changed in 30 years. The D1s are better at recruiting and don't miss on as many guys. The d1 training and coaching is better than it was, I think. Also the lower divisions don't get to challenge themselves as much against the big boys anymore. My roommate had a much closer match against the r12 guy than he thought it would be in their first meeting. That gave him a lot of confidence. When they met each other again less than a month later, my roommate took it to him and even turned the guy. I'm not sure how much that could happen these days.I mean, I was maybe above average d2 and I would hold d1 qualifiers/top 20 types to a regular decision if I had a decent match.1 point

Idk anything about him, but with D1 wrestling being what it is these days why not go back to the pre-1980 or whatever format and give an AQ spot or two to the D2/D3 champs & runners-up? It would be fun to see those guys bang with D1 wrestlers and maybe cause some bracket chaos. Perhaps earn a D1 NIL opportunity in the process. Hopefully it wouldn't ruin D2 & D3 wrestling, but I assume they're getting looks all the same from the bigger programs looking for transfers.1 point
