This is more just complaining to complain. The fact he went first shouldn't matter. Get to the match on time, you see all 10 matches. You know very well heavyweight can go first - it's been a possibility for what, 20+ years? Just because heavyweights typically go last doesn't mean much. Scotti also said he was going to pick heavy first if he won the draw more than five days before the event. The match happened, we all win for that, no matter if we had to sit through a 44-0 dual to see it happen or if it happened 0-0. I personally think we got a better Taye out of the gate than if he had to watch nine of his teammates lose before taking on Gable. He got teched, so that's a hard metric to actually validate, but the match happened in a time where we've had too many disappointments of people not wrestling high profile matches.5 points

You have to respect that Dresser calls it as it is. He was right to call Brands an "orange" a few years back, just as he's right to make this observation, and giving the "donor base" equal billing to Brands. You can call it sour grapes, but I don't think Dresser is denying he'd do it too if he had those sorts of moneyed backers. You can call it passive-aggressive, but the reality is that Iowa didn't out-recruit or out-coach ISU: they outspent them. Dresser didn't take it that far, but he's right to add a shout-out to the donors who did, in fact, make this win possible.2 points

If you go watch the Bader Show the Chance just did, the editing makes a lot more sense. Part of it is about not rehashing old childhood stuff, but Chance also takes a ton of accountability in that interview, and it sounds like he intentionally wanted to highlight his own missteps and his own process back. He has received a ton of outreach from people, and sounds like he was pretty aware that he might well kickstart this sort of outreach. Understanding that he was going to be kicking off a new community start point, he had a choice to emphasize accountability and positive process, or to make the film a source of commiseration and "woe is me" introspection and ruminating. After listening to his interview, I feel like this whole exercise was about accountability and sharing his story of substance abuse to recovery. His interview with Bader is just as good as the film itself.2 points

Upside down? Funny term for seeing the world the way it is. Trump got voted in partly due to immigration issues and the worsening drug epidemic. He's not even president and he's getting calls from Canada and Mexico offering support so they don't get hit with the tariffs. That should be good news to anyone that lives in reality. mspart2 points

Can you love a movie more each time you watch it? I had forgotten how good the special effects were (for the time), and how many incredible brilliant songs were sung or played. I had forgotten that, when Dorothy saw Auntie Em in the crystal ball while the ticking clock (hourglass) was running down, the face of her Aunt morphed into the Wicked Witch, and then, the Wicked Witch broke the fourth wall when she turned to the camera. I wonder if 10,000 kids across America saw The Wizard of Oz for the first time just now, and the Wicked Witch scared the jammies off of them. I had forgotten just how clever it was. One of my favorite quotes of all time comes near the end of the movie, "A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others." Others disagree with this quote on a philosophical basis, and I can see their point, but where it exists in the script and in the Oz universe, it is perfect. It perfectly described how the Tin Man would go through the rest of his life. As the song goes, "Oz didn't give nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't, didn't already have." The Artists crafted this movie with supernatural care. I'm amazed again! The one thing that I'd change is the Cowardly Lion's song, "If I Were the King of the Forest." I would keep all of the clever clothing arrangements, the pitcher that Tin Man turned into a crown, the rug becoming his royal cape, and the end with the dialogue: I'd just ask for a second draft of the song. It was close but not perfect. The rest of the movie is perfect.1 point

Could possibly be that Gabe has already begun the descent down to 174 and is challenging for that spot.1 point

IMO, it's not a about winning the dual, it's about locking down the loyalty of your blue-chips and giving the fans what they want, while not jeopardizing the dual's outcome. I don't see any different than them sticking Arnold in the same dual last year. It's a recognition that the fans love to see the new big-time recruits, and that in today's poaching world, you'd better built some team loyalty among your big-time true freshman to guard against a rival dangling an enticing NIL deal in front of them. The 5-free-competitions rule (which I love) makes this all possible. I don't think it says Ferrari's beating Arnold in the room, only that he's sufficiently within reaching distance that it a meaningful drop-off either way, and therefore is not likely to be the determinative factor in the dual's result.1 point

But there’s also a decent chance they might not be 3 deep at 197 and/or 285…1 point

To claim you know liberals and can lay out what they want is equivalent to saying that you know half the country and can lay out what they want. The same can be said for conservatives. Both sides have many layers/gradients on multiple issues and they often don't match up in or out of party. That divide is one of the most ridiculous oversimplifications ever made - yet it is almost universally believed. The divide is a failure. And the truth here is that the two-party model needs to check itself and change from the strategy of at-each-others-throats all the time. The media also needs to check itself and stop referring to politicians as L or R when they really should be referring to them based on what they have to say. The media oversimplifying everything into L or R just drives it further into dysfunctional norm. Team red vs team blue has got to go. We don't need a R/B scoreboard, we can't keep fighting R vs B all the time. We need to encourage knowledge and conversation on the actual issues. Not simple, they aren't easy. That's the only path that can actually make America great.1 point

Campbell got whipped by a much better team 44-0. Response: keep my mouth shut and take the L. The score says it all. I am still a big Camel Fan and I look forward to better days. PS. Gable looks better than ever. He is bigger, stronger, and faster.1 point

I get it this perspective, but this is why I take a longer term view of FS results. A guy going on a once-in-a-lifetime heater or a guy beating a great opponent once doesn’t do it for me. A guy like Lilledahl beating Forrest, Volk, Spratley at WTT and the Open over the last two years shows that he’s at a super high level, all the time. Not to mention being the World rep 4x in a row, making the final all four times. He’s not a flash in the pan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I personally thought this was one of the better Flo Films and that’s saying something because I have enjoyed all of them (only wish they’d make them more often!). I related to this a lot and it’s very hard for people not in recovery to understand how truly difficult it is. And the importance of having support around you. His wife is a saint, as are many. The one thing I do think is that OSU wasn’t good for him. Not the weight cut, but…and I preface this with no personal knowledge, only what I’ve heard…the “culture” and stories of team members being partiers with no consequences. Whether true or not, I wonder how different things would have been if he had stayed with Penn State and bought into that culture? An addict will always find a way and truly has to hit rock bottom to stay sober…just wonder if that would have happened sooner for him if he’d chosen a different road upfront. But of course, hindsight is always 20/20. Happy for him and his family and glad he’s in a good place. Thanks Flo and Chance for sharing the story!1 point

Agree with most all of what you said and this is just me nit picking but just looking at wrestle stat they have Munoz,Salazar,Glazier,Surber 7,8,9,10. While Barr beating any of them would not at all shock me I'm not sure I have seen enough yet to say if he had to beat one in the round of 16 and another in the round of 12 I would bet on him to win both of those matches.1 point

No, I don't think "everyone" cares enough about your opinion enough to get mad...I think the see you being willfully obtuse and describing Cochran and Mirasola merely as "career backups and a kid fresh out of HS." As though they're not just a TOUCH more than that. And then you go on to say ignorant *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me* like- So Mirasola's biggest accomplishment to you is a match he ALMOST won and got a single takedown in? -When talking about AARON BROOKS. Yes, the fact that he could stand in there and at least compete with the guy who just walked through 197 on his way to his 4th title would suggest he's more than just "some kid fresh out of HS. It's absolutely NOT about the bottom line ranking early in the season, it's about how you dismiss how he's Wrestled...but to disagree with you apparently makes one a scrub. I'm alright with that...1 point

Fugitt absolutely fell in his lap, and he is really, really, REALLY, lucky that Zan is a loyal kid. I personally want him to leave, and with Gross no longer there, I might be able to stay on him1 point

As we are constantly told, duals do not matter. The only thing that matters is March. Therefore, only non starters wrestle duals and tourneys. Starters wrestle the conference tournament and the national tourney. Once you qualify in your conference tournament forfeit out so no risk of injury in a meaningless conference semi final. Maybe even allow the backups qualify the weight at conference tournament, further reducing risk of injury to the starter, UWW style. While we are at it, why bother with the portal? Just loan wrestlers to other teams as some pro soccer teams do. Return the wrestler when your team recruits over the loaned wrestler. Big time programs can pay the "minor" programs for the loaned wrestler to help keep "minor" programs viable. (Dripping with sarcasm)1 point

I wonder if it will be Pat Santoros fault if Crookham were to hurt his knee because he seemingly voluntarily subluxes it every time someone gets a head inside single on him.1 point

Becker from Parkside. It won't be Ben Askren, he doesn't want the job, the athletic dept doesn't want him but Becker is an outstanding coach, was a very good Wrestler(3X undefeated D2 Champ...spent a year at Cent Mich and I guess he wasn't fully invested and wanted to Wrestle closer to home). Not an opinion, just what pretty much everyone has said. I believe someone just said on the Forum Askren wouldn't want the job as he'd have to give up this entire program HE has built, the infrastructure and he seems to love doing it(and he's doing a pretty damn good job at it). And my understanding(strictly from reading and listening to what has been said publicly) Askren thinks Becker is a very good coach. I know Becker took a 3rd at the WTT. Lost to Mark Hall when Hall was going into his Sr year 6-4. So he was competitive. Not a David Taylor, but, hell, gotta start somewhere.1 point

Note: I am a life-long Hawkeye fan but live just south of Madison. We are Badger wrestling season ticket holders. Bucky has commitments from a handful of in-state guys. While they are great wrestlers, they are not the best of the in-state talent. Heiser, who should win his fourth wrestling for my local high school, is off to Missouri. Herm, another great talent, is off to South Dakota St with Neitzel, a northwestern WI kid. There is very little fanfare concerning the class of 2025. Honestly, until they are on campus and in the program, I am not sure the fan base trusts their commitment. They got a couple pretty solid in-state guys out of the class of 24, but they weren’t “THOSE GUYS” who went to Penn State and Missouri, respectively. We have the season tickets, in part, because we get to see them wrestle some great teams every other year. The fan base seems pretty much done with Bono. The Badger program simply does not have what it takes to be competitive in the BIG. Many are worried the program will not survive long-term, given NIL and the new scholarship “limits.”1 point

Yes, I live in an upside down world that sees: - people telling truth getting ostracized by their government and social media and media. - people getting jailed for exercising their first amendment rights - people getting not jailed for rioting and looting because those are their first amendment rights - adults advocating puberty blockers for minors possibly sterilizing them - adults advocating surgical measures on minors to try to change their gender. These same adults don't want a school nurse giving an aspirin or tylenol to a kid that's been hurt. - Government officials not working to find justice for victims of crime but rather try to keep the perps out of jail. - Government officials that tell the unwashed masses that inflation is down nothing to worry about as prices are up 20% and some things are even more. - Government officials going after political opponents using the courts to enforce their wishes (see the second item above) - DOJ officials calling parents not having it at school board meetings domestic terrorists. That's the upside down world I live in. mspart1 point

You’re exactly right. Government data is adjusted and manipulated to reflect any information they desire. If calculated the same as it was in the ‘70s, it would match Carter. Panic is when you adjust your grocery selections to be more affordable and you still can’t pay the credit card off at the end of the month. Check the stats on credit card debt. Panic is enough to cause every category of the electorate to vote for a different plan.1 point

Yes, So what you are saying is that you knew all about this already. Do I have that correct? Did you know the tariffs were aimed at immigration change and reduced fentanyl levels? Did you know that the Canadian Prime Minister called Trump immediately? Did you know the Mexican President called Trump almost immediately? If you did, how did you find out? Was it from WAPO, NYT, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, CNBC, NSNBC, Fox or somewhere else? The fact you did not say you already knew this leads me to think you did not know but want to argue so you are. Yeah, I had to search for these articles, they did not just come up first thing in my search. I heard about these on the radio and I was looking for source material. Not much out there. I knew there would be pushback without citations. Yet you found a way. No comment on the message, just shoot the messenger. Ad hominem attacks are not an argument. mspart1 point

If I had a guess, Aeoden will be at 184 next year. A year in both the wrestling and weight room will do him great. Hawks moves to 197 in this scenario.1 point

Plus people often show up a little late to meets, they could have missed some or all of Steveson's match with him going first. People do make some valid points, so it wasn't a decision with zero merit. That said, I still feel like it wasn't the "right" call to have GS go first.1 point

I think @Jason Bryant is suggesting Campbell may not have sent Ghadiali out, but I doubt that would have happened. But to your point, the main concern for me with wrestling heavyweight first would be fans leaving early. But sure, there are certainly more worthy things to complain about in our sport. And I guess you could argue it was more exciting to have that match happen with a tie score rather than with Minnesota up by 30+ points1 point
