I'm not an OSU fan, but I was in town and went. Such an unbelievable moment to see him put it all on the line again on a D1 mat just 15 months after being shot. As others have said and you can see in the video; if we're honest, he likely won't see high-level results until his leg and general physical fitness progress a little further. Being there, though, and seeing it unfold, it just doesn't matter at this point. "Where he fits" and genuine expectations feel like questions for some weeks down the road after he's had a fair shot to evaluate himself and calibrate his goals and ambitions. I think he's penciled in for Sunday again versus Edinboro.4 points

I wonder how much the extra COVID year had to do with the current drought? The outlier year of 2022 with the most guys on a title streak was the year after everyone got a free year. That probably shouldn't be too surprising. The high school class of 2021 and after have had to wrestler, on average older, wrestlers than every past year. Someone that graduated high school in 2021 and wrestled as a true freshman like Dean Hamiti would have a difficult time getting to the top immediately.2 points

Case in point. A Northern California dimocrat representative was explaining that the reason why they lost the election was they didn’t get their message out right. That they had passed multiple bills to spend billions that were to create jobs. And they were moving ahead with the process of shutting down five oil refineries and moving toward ‘renewable’ energy, away from fossil fueled energy. The problem was the people didn’t hear that message. From his elite perch he exudes the premise that good intentions are what counts. The voters get the message alright, and they want results, not intentions. California has already stressed itself with energy production restrictions and regulations, and experiences the occasional brown out or black out as a result. His thinking is the kind that allocates seven billion dollars, that after two years, manages to install eight charging stations to charge electric cars that nobody is buying. And now that the AI bubble burst is on the horizon, the hesitancy of some manufacturers to commit will be beneficial to them, but spells the same ol’ story for the jobs. Dimocrats would do well to refrain from giving messages and start listening to the messages the people are sending.2 points

But but they’re evil successful billionaires who can’t sing or act….. if they could sing or host a talk show they are the good kind of billionaires. or cheat on their property taxes. I’m looking at you jb pritzker. Never hear about him paying his fair share of taxes now do you.2 points

I have my doubts about the protocols. And this is not a Cornell criticism, it is a sport criticism, but we saw it with Yianni Diakomihalis in Colorado at the challenge tournament against Nick Lee. He was so clearly concussed, but passed the protocols. Those were UWW protocols, not NCAA, but I think it is a sport wide problem. We seem to see if every week in the NFL, especially with Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa has passed concussion protocols and returned to the game multiple times in his career when it is clear he should not have. I have no idea about Meyer Shapiro, as I have not even seen the match in question, I just do not think passing the concussion protocol is as definitive as it should be.2 points

He needs more matches preferably at some opens and eventually a drop to 157. He looked like a good imitation of himself yesterday technique wise. It was a very impressive performance for a guy who nearly died and was partially paralyzed for awhile.2 points

This isn't about exploiting labor or doing menial labor like mowing the lawn for 80 hours. It's about engaging in creative, knowledge-intensive tasks. They're after the individual who's driven by purpose, who seeks mastery, and values autonomy, willing to go the extra mile for results. Consider lawyers who work 55 hours a week and then spend another 40 updating Wikipedia for free. That's the spirit they are looking for. In a corporate setting, they're aiming for the top 1% of performers who exceed expectations, not the 70% who just meet them. It's not about tracking hours; it's about a dedication to achieve. They want individuals who mirror their own zeal and commitment. If you're concerned about working hours, that suggests you value more free time. That is fine; this is not a job for you.2 points

Gable is the best p4p wrestler in the country at all levels. He’s doing this because it’s free money. He’s not the oldest wrestler competing in college this year. Some clown said something about him not having any significance in NCAA wrestling…he’s the only two time hodge winning hwt ever. I can’t wait to see him embarrass all your favorite heavys2 points

It was 2001, not 2007. We did so with 0 finalists, with Leroy Vega, Jared Lawrence, Luke Becker, Brad Pike, Owen Elzen and Garrett Lowney all losing in the semis(3 in OT). Damion Hahn and Brett Lawrence had to fight back a long way to AA2 points

There you go again personally attacking. I'm sorry you don't see it as a character flaw but it is. It doesn't assist you in your attempt to communicate. What comes across is rage, not information. mspart2 points

I've watched every match Shapiro has wrestled since skipping his senior HS year (there may have been a couple that weren't streamed). I've never seen Shapiro "break" unless he was dropped on his head, and then it is pretty obvious there was an issue. It's clear that Shapiro passes whatever concussion protocol tests they administer during a match if he returns to the mat and attempts to finish the match. They wouldn't let him back if he didn't. In the match in question, he clearly wasn't being "pushed," having taken his opponent down twice with yet-to-be-described-in-the-literature TDs prior to attempting a throw that misfired. He won the U20 world tournament by coming back from behind twice (down 4-2 with < 1:00 to go in the 1/8, and down 4-0 in the final including getting a cut on his head needing a wrap), without being a drama queen. The idea that he would break and fold when getting taken down by a "lesser" opponent is, well, delusional.1 point

Insider trading is not legal for members of Congress anymore as of the 2012 STOCK Act. The issue now is enforcement, which is left to the executive branch. With Trump now president perhaps the will to pursue members of Congress will change.1 point

Sinclair from Mizzou. Assuming he Wrestle's '84 and not '97 and he takes a RS(PK and Star is...asking a bit much) I think he could definitely win it next year. He's so smooth, so slick and I doubt he walks around at 200. Maybe 195, so the cut to '84 would probably be plenty easy(he may even test for '65). But again, to repeat what I said in the Wrestle-off thread, he just looked like he was giving up way too much length at '97. q Give the kid a year with O'Toole and the rest of that team and put him at '74 or '84(seems like '84 is...almost a given based on the last couple years) and I'd put money on him right now...for next year.1 point

This is the chance for all you supporters of Musk for this job to stand up and be counted. Surely you want to spend 80+ hours per week working for him and doing whatever it takes to rid the world of goat yoga studies and $50 bolts. I will happily be your reference. Unless you do not think you are in the top 1%.1 point

hmmmmm Did someone somehow edit my post ? I’ve done all 3 of the major moves. I bet this is part of the stuff Elon shut down at twitter we often would over estimate projects we just didn’t want to do. (Fortune 50 company) we sometimes spent the remainder of our budget end of year on software we didn’t need…. One time 8 figures worth. Same fortune 50 company in sales we gobble up free software deals in companies q4… similar to the second one but on the receiving end not the giving end. This was a diff fortune 50 company and a few startups. our gov sales team always have some crazy stories about the corruption.1 point

Dang, that's a lot of drama over a small error. I feel for Kozak who seems like a legitimately good dude. His instinct was right -- apologize, don't argue with the haters, move on. Pyles should have done the same -- just stop at the apology, and the whole thing would be immediately forgotten. Yes, he is right that the people highlighting the error don't really give a crap about the Blazes, or they wouldn't do it. But it comes across as blame-shifting, begs the question: why do so many people want to "dunk on Flo" in the first place? Just rise above it, and it exposes the haters as small.1 point

Isn't that just called "reporting?" If the only source you're willing to use is the direct party that's being reported on, you're adding zero value. I understand the reputational risk with the athlete, but it comes with the territory.1 point

Yes and no. Without looking at the facts and circumstances of each situation it might read as over-regulation. But things like the SEC fines were VERY well earned by Musk. And he has broken securities laws since with zero consequence. The revenue he derives certainly is not due to over-regulation. But the bigger question is should he be both the regulated and the person who influences the regulation? I say no.1 point

If you would care to propose a reasonable alternative I would love to hear it. But before you do, let's look at Tesla alone, the source of most of his wealth, and all of his liquid wealth. 43% of Tesla's profits derive from government largesse. YTD Tesla has made $2.1 billion from selling carbon credits provided to them by the government. Tesla has recently faced investigations from the Transportation Department and the Justice Department. Tesla has been fined for OSHA violations. Tesla has been sued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Tesla has face enforcement actions from the EPA Tesla, and Musk, have been investigated by the SEC and found to have violated securities laws resulting in sanctions on Musk's tweets and fines on the company. The SpaceX list is longer and higher dollar value, by the way.1 point
-
So in this case, we’re just going to trust the government, where normally we would not; we should question everything. But this time, it’s ridiculous to question this governmental move, we should just trust them. and furthermore, it’s really going to be okay because there will be more government checking on them. It makes sense now.1 point
-
So I have a serious question. What is the determining factor that switches us from , “question everything never trust the government” to “ well it’s okay…it’s the government. They will handle it appropriately”??1 point

Sucks for Shapiro that he is having concussion issues. Discretion is the better part of valor once these problems arise. Even what seems to be subconcussive events can cause further damage. I feel really bad for him but hope he does not hang on too long.1 point

"credibly accussed" is that a new legal standing of guilt in the US? Was there a trial which decided it was "credible?" I'm not in favor of Gaetz for this appointment but c'mon there have to be some better fact based arguments.1 point

Ever example of waste you provide is the result of someone's conflict of interest. Goat yoga studies don't just happen on their own. But you cannot bring yourself to acknowledge that Musk is quite possibly the most conflicted individual in the history of government.1 point

I just thought it may be worth noting that Japan could very well have the second best guy at 61kg as well. Yuto Nishiuchi lost to ono 3-2 at their version of nationals and he is a 2x u20 world champ notably beating lilledahl 5-0 in the finals in 2023.1 point
