  1. Maybe Vinesh just phogat to check her weight.

  2. If Yazdani is winning late, does Carl distract the ref while the Jesus Trained stable of Marinelli, Carr, and Kerk come out from the stands and hit him with metal folding chair shots then Brooks covers for the three count when the ref comes back? Asking because sometimes god works in mysterious ways...

  3. Leg foul. I think his front head and arm was as much to see if he could catch him off guard and throw him but more to try to force the trapped arm into contacting his leg when it crosses down like it does.

  4. I agree having an actual gold medal match is a good thing, but I think there's more to the rationale than that. It helps discourage extreme weight cutting to tell all athletes you only get a chance at a medal if you make weight BOTH days. That's good for the sport, and helps ensure everyone's at the right weight, and not one where they will struggle on Day 2 to make weight. Also, the current rule discourages athletes from eating a ton after Day 1 weigh-ins and having a huge weight advantage over your opponents. It keeps everyone at about the same level. To use an extreme example, imagine you know you have zero chance of beating your opponent on the opposite end of your bracket, so your best case scenario is silver. In that scenario, if the rule were otherwise, it could actually make sense to eat liberally after Day 1 weigh-ins so you have as big a size advantage as possible in the quarters and semis. Then if you win, who cares if you don't make weight on Day 2 (and maybe you don't even try), since had no shot beyond silver anyway. I'd be surprised if that last scenario ever played out, but I do think it's good for the sport to remove that risk, and to incentivize healthy weight cutting. I think the NCAA does the same thing and I think it's the right call for the sport.

  5. Every one of our wrestlers has to wrestle an Olympic qualifier in EVERY round. It's a bunch of bull. There should be an investigation.

  6. Brooks drawing the #1 seed is the best gift we could have asked for. He is opposite side from Yazdani, Amine & Kurugliev. The Kazak is tough but he is the type of guy you have to beat if you want to be an Olympic medalist. I am very happy where Aaron and Spencer landed in the brackets.

  8. I actually thought Sarah would be disappointed not to have a chance to win the gold in a wrestling match. Reminded me of Zac Braunagel against Alan Vera in Final X, when Vera couldn't wrestle the third match. Now, in order to think that way, I have to think differently than Hildebrandt or Braunagel, who are true competitors. But as the "Forfeit King," who greatly appreciated, looked forward to, and heartily accepted all forfeits, that's how I normally would've felt.

  12. I was surprised when I saw the two go up but then I realized what it was for. There was a caution block showing in the graphic. And nobody complained so might have been more there than we saw from this perspective.

  16. I'm not interested in stealing your thunder, @D3 for LU! Thanks for getting up early and weighing in I'm just excited for Dom Parrish. The whole women's team, tbh. I might regret framing it this way...but a couple Japanese women faltering opens the door for team USA to do something nobody thought they'd do any time soon, and I'd really like for the fastest growing sport in the USA to have something affirming to celebrate.

  17. Brackets are out. Both Dom Parrish (53) and Jacobson (87) have tough goes in the first round. Dom drew 3rd seed Fujinami of Japan, whose list of accomplishments on UWW include a slew of all-gold medals and wins by tech going back to Cadets in 2018. Jacobson drew the 7th seed Serbian, Komarov: Reigning European Champ and U23 World Champ in 2021. Of course, there is no easy draw at the olympics...And the first two Japanese women surprised us.

  27. Zou is a large 57 KG guy who can also handfight. I actually expect Lee to attempt to make quick work of him this time. He already knows if he lets him stay in the match, it is going to be a dogfight and you don't want that in a Round 1 matchup. Ishiguro is also a tough next match. He had kind of a brain fart at Worlds last year, but aside for that he has only lost to the elite as well. He also holds the last victory in the series with both Aaron Brooks and Dauletbekov. He pulled off a Techfellery via 11-0 on Valencia at 2023 Zegrab.

  30. A lot of folks losing their shit over Vinesh missing weight on Twatter. While I am annoyed Hildebrandt doesn't just get awarded the gold, I understand that the rules are in place and have been in place for many months. If you break the rules, you must suffer whatever consequences those rules state.

  32. Serbian lost his next match - Jacobson is out. MGR went 0W - 5L. Coon did the best, I would say, right? A 3-1 loss to a Bronze medal winner and defending world champion who defeated every other wrestler he faced by a wider margin?

  33. It's getting late in the hour and I'll have to depart for work... Dom Parrish's match is 4th on the que for Mat B. I'm afraid I'll be missing that one... tell me all about it (when I catch up at work.) D3

  34. Yeah, I'm not a fan, but I respect these guys. I am...totally at a loss as for why he was put down(I understand Spladle's explanation, it just doesn't match what I saw)...and even more confused why Rau got 2 there. He didn't expose or anything. He came around with a...head pinch, kind or front head and he looked like he was trying to throw him, but he just brought him up and then came down to his rear. An explanation would be appreciated. There were still clinches when I was wrestling Greco!

  37. From Team India X page. "It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand."

  39. Tim Walz checklist • Supported George Floyd Riots (Wife says she kept windows open so she could enjoy the smell of burning) • Said he'd assist illegals in crossing • Replaced state flag w/ Somalian flag • Started a hotline to report on neighbors who didn't wear masks (that don't work) • Endorsed Socialism • Lied about his military rank • Left his military unit when deployed i just want to make sure you're all aware of this. i'm 100% sure this will not change any of your minds. that's how unrelentingly tribal you are. i'd have more respect if you all said 'listen, i just aint voting for the other side no matter what' than trying to defend this bs

  41. Phelps winning 8/8 gold medals is a singular accomplishment that may never be done again, just like Lopez winning gold in 5 straight olympics might never be done again. Usain Bolt is the single most impressive athlete that I've ever seen compete in the olympics though. The reason I say that is that I don't think there is a person who has ever lived that could have been faster. And he maintained what he did over 3 olympic games. I'm not sure his 100 or 200m records will fall any time soon. Lopez is incredible, and the greatest wrestler of all time, but I don't think the best athletes in the world become wrestlers. With that said, Simone BIles might be the greatest olympic athlete of all time. She is the greatest gymnast ever, which is one of the marquee sports in the olympics. She also competed well beyond what is typical for female gymnasts. And she is a survivor of sexual abuse from a predator in USA gymnastics, and came back from that abuse to win again after struggling mentally because of it. It is a story that we will only appreciate more with time, since I don't think people really understand the magnitude of what she has overcome and accomplished. I don't think there is a story as impactful in sports.

  42. Swimming gives out too many medals. 50, 100, and 200 for free, breast, fly and back seems like overkill, especially when the winners at 100 are usually contenders at either 50 or 200. Then you have the relays which is not an individual effort. Lopez achievements are far more impressive in my opinion.
