  1. I’ve been told the trials are being held in South Florida…

  2. Here's the most straight forward I can make it: There is no longer a cap on the number of scholarships a team can give out. There is however, a cap on the number of roster spots, which is now 30. That means a school can give out anywhere between 0 and 30 full scholarships now. But, because every other sport is getting and increase and Title IX implications, schools will now starting ranking sports and diverting funds to the sports they rank the most important (most likely football, M/W Basketball, and other W sports that balance out football). More programs are going to have to cut guys to get to the 30 limit than those that will give more scholarships. That will spread around guys to different programs but I fear the overall number of scholarships being given will drop. This may also trickle down to the D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA level as some of those guys may turn that way. Well funded programs are going to get better and separate themselves more because they will offer more scholarships. Programs that aren't ranked very high on priority by their school will probably lose scholarships. Programs that relied on high roster numbers and didn't provide very many scholarships will be in trouble now. This will in no way help any program other than those that want, and can provide, more scholarships. I think it will end up turning into an all or nothing for programs where they either get a good number of scholarships or none at all.

  8. My name is Mikaela and my daughter Madison wrestles! I live in a neighborhood with a lot of preteens, mostly boys. My daughter is one if three girls in the neighborhood. They are all friends and like to hang out in my backyard. Its large and has a swiming pool. As boys often do, they wrestle. I would often hear the kids cheering on the combatants and I would sometimes watch from the porch. Today was no different. I went out to the porch and saw my daughter Maddie wrestling an older, bigger boy (name witheld)!! I had to get a closer look so I headed down to the circle of kids. Maddie was a girly-girl so I was surprised she was holding her own! It was a long fight and I found myself cheering Maddie on. As they were twisted in a knot, she got on top and pinned him!! She humiliated him and he stormed off. Later at dinner Maddie admitted that she has fought and taken all but one boy and she is going to challenge him. I don't want to miss that fight! Maddie wants to wrestle in high school but she has one more year in middle school. Im trying to find a league or something in the meantime. Go Maddie!!! Mikaela in Nebraska

  9. Sanderson finished 159-0 but he never wrestled the likes of David Taylor. However Kyle Dake did and finished 11-0 vs David Taylor in multiple styles.

  18. Has it been mentioned that he was too dumb to remember riding time? And on a more serious note, 4.0 GPA doesn't mean anything. People who know which courses to take, and are good at school, can do this with very little effort. If he's in a STEM field with a 4.0 thats a big deal.

  20. The Olympics have always been among my favorite athletic events. For the most part, it’s still up there, but every Olympic cycle it becomes a bit more frustrating. Why? Because there are a number of Olympic competitions that cheapen what it has traditionally meant to win an Olympic gold medal. I would consider them to fall into one of the two following categories: 1. non-sports - example would be shooting or equestrian. There are competitors in these competitions that are literally in their 40s or 50s and well past their athletic peak. 2. Could technically be considered a sport but not a real test of athleticism or widely participated in the same way that more classic Olympic events like Track, swimming or wrestling are. Some examples would be skateboarding or BMX racing. The 2024 Summer Olympics will have 32 “sports”. By my count a third to a half fit the two conditions above. Off the top of my head break dancing, BMX racing, equestrian, sailing and skateboarding are competitions that don’t belong in the Olympics. A gold medal winner in these is in no way comparable to a gold medal winning runner or swimmer. It’s a shame what the Olympics are turning into. They lose the prestige it means to win a gold a little more every cycle. Ok, rant over. Let the games begin.

  26. Wrestlers in Business Network (WIBN) has announced a new program to connect current and former wrestlers with career opportunities. Every current and former can create a profile on the WIBN site and WIBN partner companies have access to profiles and can connect with career opportunities. While this program is designed for current and recently graduated high school and college wrestlers, many of WIBN's partner companies are also seeking more established professionals. You can create a profile at: https://shorturl.at/Kr4dN If you don't know about WIBN: WIBN is an operating division of the NWCA and helps connect wrestlers with career opportunities. WIBN has historically focused on creating chapters in local areas across the country to help wrestlers with business opportunities. Over the last two years, WIBN has focused on helping current college wrestlers with internships and early career opportunities. Your Next Match represents a broader approach to connect all wrestlers with companies seeking to hire wrestlers. Want to know the type of companies WIBN works with? Check out the list of companies currently working with WIBN (and this list is growing): https://shorturl.at/feQ27 If you know of a company that wants to be part of this program or have questions, please have them contact WIBN: dfallon@wrestlersinbusiness.org

  33. Good mention on the endowments/fundraising. This is probably going to be what most schools tell programs. "You can have as many scholarships as you want, as long as you raise the money for them."

  35. I am concerned for non P5 wrestling. They will not increase the number of schollys, in fact, they may lose some. As it stands now schools can give wrestling 9.9 schollys with a 40-50 man roster. Meaning 30-40 non Scholly wrestlers, bringing in more students to the school. Limit the roster to 30 it cuts tuition collected by the schools making wrestling less attractive. Football increases by 20 schollys, baseball increases dramatically, and must be made up by other men's sports losing schollys. I feel like P5 schools will put a lot more distance between them and non P5 schools. Yeah, the big dogs will benefit, but at what cost? Who will they wrestle? They are currently well ahead of most all the others and it could become much more distance between them and the have nots. Why would they want to compete against programs their 3rd string could crush? What would be the benefit? Why bother with a weighin when the comp could not touch them with a ten foot pole?
