*facepalm* See, that's what I'm talking about. All these fake sports that colleges have been forced to create out of nothing to avoid getting sued, but then a REAL sport with REAL interest comes along, and they do nothing.3 points

Ohio had their first sanctioned Girls State Championship in 2023. A total of 257 high schools had entries in the OHSAA regional wrestling tournaments (not full teams mind you). I haven't heard anything mentioned about women's wrestling coming to OSU. Perhaps Ryan isn't interested? Or he's not a fan? Maybe it's coming... We know they have the means. Ohio colleges with women's wrestling Baldwin Wallace University, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Lourdes University, Otterbein University, Tiffin University, University of Findlay, University of Mount Union, PA sanctioned girls wrestling last July and has 205 high schools competing. PA colleges with women's wrestling Alvernia University, Cedar Crest College, Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg, Commonwealth University - Lock Haven, Delaware Valley University, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, Gannon University, Lackawanna College, MI sanctioned girls wrestling in 2020 and had over 800 participants in 2023/2024 (didn't see a number of schools). MI colleges with women's wrestling Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, Davenport University, Grand Valley State University, Northern Michigan University, Rochester University, Siena Heights University. Agreed. I think PSU has a team in their Altoona campus (DIII) starting next year (too little, too late), while it's still club level at UM and tOSU. Sad. It's especially hard to justify Penn State's head being deep in the sand, not just because of the success of their men's team, but because women's wresting is thriving as much in PA as anywhere in the country, save CA. In fact, per this breakdown of Fargo numbers, all the B1G states (with the ironic exception of Iowa) had strong women's wrestling performances: https://www.themat.com/news/2024/july/21/pennsylvania-wins-overall-fargo2024-team-standings-with-california-and-illinois-in-the-top-three. I'm sure money will get cited as a factor. I'm guessing we'll also hear universities bellyache that sports growth needs to be put on pause now that they have to pay their athletes, per the NCAA deal with Power 5 conferences from a few months back. Even so, with so many D1 programs backed by big donors, it's hard for me to believe that these schools couldn't send out an APB to their benefactors and tap into that largesse. Even if they aren't huge fans, a D1 women's program helps the men's program too, as they help build each others' fan (and revenue) bases, it's a recruiting boon (there's a TON of brother-sister wrestling combos these days), and there's no serious question that having a women's team is an added safeguard against the men's team being cut. And on that note, I just don't see how this isn't a gift from the Title IX compliance gods. Not just in terms of proportionality, but in not having to manufacture nonexistent interest in women's college sports teams that have zero high school pedigree. I'm looking at you, women's rowing. (High school participants: 2100. D1 schools with women's rowing: 89.) Heck, women's wrestling recently passed women's field hockey in high school participation, and 79 D1 schools field a field hockey team. These universities need to decide if they're going to get on the train or get left behind.2 points

Not an Iowa fan but give credit where it is due: Iowa has really stepped up on women's wrestling. There's a whole bunch of other D1 programs that should be out there doing what Iowa's doing but there isn't. Can anyone give me a good reason why the rest of the B1G isn't starting up women's teams? In 2022-23, there were 256,466 boys and 49,127 girls competing in high school wrestling. I'm sure those women's numbers are much higher now, as it is by far the fastest growing sport (see https://apnews.com/article/wrestling-girls-high-school-c1e18531cf36831e158282ea08ca9775). But assuming it's the same, that's about a 5:1 ratio. There's 77 men's D1 programs... by that ratio, there's easily numbers to support 15+ D1 teams. So why are all the women's opportunities buried in NAIA programs? This should be such a no-brainer. Not only is there an enormous unmet need/demand, it also is extremely low-cost for D1 programs. Wrestling is a low-expense sport as it is, but the wrestling infrastructure is already there! It's also an easy way to goose your Title IX numbers. For years, colleges had to avoid getting sued by doing ridiculous things like building a lake in a desert somewhere, in an effort to create a women's crew team for which there was no demonstrated interest (see https://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/28/opinion/wrestling-with-title-ix.html). But now it's right there in front of their noses: women who want to wrestle, and just need major colleges to step up. Why are they being ushered off to Life U, McKendree, or Menlo? And getting a team out there early, as Iowa has wisely done, establishes you as a pre-eminent destination for the top women's wrestlers. It's definitely going to happen, it's just a matter of when -- and if a given D1 school is going to be a leader or on the outside looking in. I'm picking on the B1G schools since they're the pre-eminent wrestling conference and Iowa has shown the other schools the way. Time for them to get off their lazy rears and get in the game.2 points

MGR 77, 87, 97 KG Bey, Jacobson, and Rau all wrestle for medals, albeit bronze medals - all with a 49.5% chance of winning. Bey - Random number generator between 0 and 1000 gives us 657, meaning he wins his Bronze match. We see him pull off at least two high-flying Bey bombs in this tournament. Jacobson - Random number generator between 0 and 1000 gives us 151, meaning he loses his Bronze match. He is in every match he wrestles, though - which gets us rather excited about his future in this sport. Rau - Random number generator between 0 and 1000 gives us 638, meaning he wins his Bronze match. This would be a storybook ending for our MGR squad if not for what I am about to lay down at 130 KG. Not trust me... because I will llay it all out there for you and you will eat my minced words. When it happens, you will all collectively shit your pants. 130 KG Four time Olympic Gold, five time Worlds Gold, and three time Worlds Silver medalist Mijain Lopez gets drawn in to face the #1 seeded Iranian in Round 1 - beating him. Coon wins a back and forth 6-2 match on a last ten second four pointer in Round 1. Coon then decks Lopez on a simple, early throw. He gives a generic interview "This is what we practice for every day. Thank you to my family, thank you to my coaches, and thank you to Baby Jesus. This is what we practice for every day. It's just another match we give 100% to." etc... Coon then wins the semi-finals similar to his first match. Back and fourth... needs another four pointer in the last minute to win 7-4. Coon then wins his finals over whoever has the balls to take the mat with him via 1M17S Pinfellery. I will let your imaginations flow as to how I will celebrate there. Essentially it breaks down to my entering the race for Presidency via accepting both the Democrat and Republican nominations simultaneously, with Trump announcing that I am 'The Best. There has never been anyone better.' and Hitlery calling it a 'No-brainer.'2 points

WFS 50 KG Hildebrandt 'shocks' the world via not losing to Susaki via TECH in the finals, and brings home Silver. 53 KG Parrish has won it all before, albeit not during an Olympic year... BUT... she grinds her way through to the finals. Also brings home a Silver (while beating #1 seed from Ecuador enroute to the finals, btw). 57 KG Maroulis dominates everyone not named Sakurai enroute to a Bronze. 62 KG Miracle scratches and claws and grinds her way to another Silver finish for WFS Team USA, also losing to Japan (Motoki). 68 KG Elor doesn't allow a single non-shotclock point aside for the final 15 seconds of any match all weekend enroute to a Gold performance save for one exception: In one match she gives up the first Takedown, then Techs her opponent. A random occurrence. 76 KG Blades keeps her head 'out' of trouble and picks up steam, eventually pulling off a Techfellery in the finals. Overall: WFS Team USA brings home six medals. Japan does NOT get six medals, but sill wins based on the strength of going four for four in the first four weights. Obviously you gents get to see a Page 8 news bulletin on BBC titled "Where's the rest of the of the Heffer?!" with a photo of some elderly-ish black man streaking up the quad with a full, raw leg shank in one hand, a gallon of Jager in another, and the worlds 3rd largest beer hat on - filled to the rim with a concoction of Black Velvet and Natural Ice. I am talking epic proportion inebriation here, gents. I aim to overtake 'Florida Man' with 'Elderly-ish Black Man' by the time the Olympics are over.2 points

The Olympics have always been among my favorite athletic events. For the most part, it’s still up there, but every Olympic cycle it becomes a bit more frustrating. Why? Because there are a number of Olympic competitions that cheapen what it has traditionally meant to win an Olympic gold medal. I would consider them to fall into one of the two following categories: 1. non-sports - example would be shooting or equestrian. There are competitors in these competitions that are literally in their 40s or 50s and well past their athletic peak. 2. Could technically be considered a sport but not a real test of athleticism or widely participated in the same way that more classic Olympic events like Track, swimming or wrestling are. Some examples would be skateboarding or BMX racing. The 2024 Summer Olympics will have 32 “sports”. By my count a third to a half fit the two conditions above. Off the top of my head break dancing, BMX racing, equestrian, sailing and skateboarding are competitions that don’t belong in the Olympics. A gold medal winner in these is in no way comparable to a gold medal winning runner or swimmer. It’s a shame what the Olympics are turning into. They lose the prestige it means to win a gold a little more every cycle. Ok, rant over. Let the games begin.1 point

Senate races do not effect presidential races. It's the opposite. Presidential races effect senate races. Using senate race polling this early in the cycle does not and again I will repeat does not correlate to the presidential race. The polling on senate races will follow and fall in line with polling on the presidential race. Here is my original comment, "Senate polls/races are not an indicator on the national race." Following sentence, "Trump will win Ohio handily and Sherrod Brown will win his Ohio Senate race by a few points".1 point

CO2 has zero impact on climate change. https://thehighwire.com/editorial/new-peer-reviewed-study-co2-has-zero-impact-on-climate-change/ Long(ish) read but worth it. A couple of pull quotes: "As reported by Slay News, much like a sponge, the Earth’s atmosphere can only hold so much, meaning that carbon dioxide cannot increase temperatures anymore since the saturation point was reached a long time ago. The study uses a hypothetical concept of a fire inside a greenhouse consistently emitting heat. The glass walls and ceiling can contain only so much heat before emitting it outside. CO2 in the atmosphere is very similar in that it can act as a “greenhouse” gas, but all the CO2 together can only contain so much heat, much like the hypothetical greenhouse. The CO2 Coalition agrees with this conclusion as well. Thus, amidst all the fearmongering around climate change—and the knowledge that many things, including changes in solar activity heavily influence Earth’s weather . . ." "And now, following Dr. Curry’s sound advice and insight, we have the Science Direct study reaffirming . . . Conducted by researchers from the Institute of Optoelectronics, Military University of Technology in Warsaw, Poland, the study authors found that even if we dug up all the world’s coal, extracted all the world’s oil, and burned it in one giant pyre, the CO2 emissions from that endeavor would not heat up planet Earth. Indeed, this is because carbon dioxide does not cause the Earth to warm up indefinitely.1 point

I don't think Coleman's roots run deep enough at tOSU for him to be much involved in recruiting. I'm thinking Coleman is biding his time at the RTC until another top head coaching position opens up. I'm sure tOSU knows that too, it's RTC only. It isn't like he's threatening the post-Ryan pecking order. But I have no doubt he's going to do excellent work while he's there. Guys like Mendez should benefit a ton.1 point

Yep...I agree...but I must confess that my daughter is an example and somewhat of a beneficiary of this. Having played pretty high level volleyball, she got a little burned out and didn't want to play volleyball in college. The Lacrosse coach reached out and she got a scholarship having never played. So... on to Lacrosse season!1 point

That group of 102 wrestlers produced a total of 39 AA finishes with 6 titles. The Dream Team was the best with 20 AA's and 3 titles (Jeff Prescott x2, Matt Ruppel). Other AAs produced a single title (Mark Reiland) among their 4 AA finishes. Honorable Mention was honorable producing 2 titles (Matt Demaray) and 14 total AA finishes. The Nerds got a single 3rd place finish from Tom Miller. In total only 20 wrestlers on the list every AA'd 8 of 11 Dream Team 1 of 11 Academic Team 3 of 20 Other AA 8 of 60 Honorable Mention1 point

Correct. I would love for Tom and Terry to birth my cyborg-Hawkeye-identical sons all because I included them in a wrestling forum question about college wrestling greats. Do us all a favor and note the ‘Legends’ included in the title. A question about how guys were seen coming out of high school. Not, “Who were the bluest of blue chips of all time?”. To say those two are not legends would be asinine. Yeah, you’re not a legend even if you have an Olympic medal or even some world titles. Thank you for your observation of my horribly tainted memory.1 point
