Its been said (at least once) that even before Uetake came over to the states, etching had been found in a cave in the Glass Mountains describing how he would never be challenged.6 points

Agreed. In no universe is one team vs another team bigger than…we’ll call it 16 of the top 20…wrestlers in the world in the grand event that you only get one opportunity in four years. You could do two duals a week no problem. Which..would be fun, but…3 points

Kolat is not in trouble. He is 3-1 against Army. As previously mentioned, that goes a long way. Navy is not a trophy school. As far as being like Henson, I disagree. They are night and day. Henson got himself caught up in some questionable behavior at WVU. Kolat has far more integrity as a person and coach. That goes a long way. My two cents.3 points

Honest to God, I do not understand the whining about this, lol. This doesn't enthuse me, either, so I just don't watch. He'll announce when he announces.3 points

Very unusual to for wrestling to get any mention in SI. HS wrestling maybe 1 or 2 times per decade. https://vault.si.com/vault/1980/03/17/hes-really-a-rugged-competitor-high-school-star-kenny-monday-came-off-the-carpet-to-mop-up-on-the-mat3 points

U of New Orleans' AD was at the Collegiate Duals in December of 2022 which took place in New Orleans. He seemed to be very engaged and talking to a lot of different wrestling-related people. Didn't appear to be a guy that was just invited there and hanging out for a few minutes, so I was hoping maybe that would be the case.3 points

Indeed. The ultimate goal for a kid that was a serious wrestler in the early/mid eighties was the Olympics( maybe that has changed). There was nothing bigger to us. Attended many World Cups when they were held in Toledo when the Soviets were there, they were great, but they weren't the Olympics.2 points

High school for me was J Jaggers and Lance Palmer (NE Ohio) Palmer was probably the most hyped i'd ever seen, and that would include Dustin Schlatter. Not who everyone was claiming to be the best, but closest to any star or celebrity status in that world. Palmer a brother who was also destined to be a 4x state champ (he was) his family was known for wrestling bears, and the St. Eds notoriety certainly helped.2 points

We will see no NCAA sooner than a league influx of programs. burn it down, separate by amateur (non-revenue) and professional (revenue with revenue sharing), and get back to it.2 points

Easy answer is the Olympics. I am not going to be blinded by whatever political nonsense is going on. Every kid who loves wrestling grows up dreaming of the Olympics - not wrestling Russia in a dual.2 points

J'Den is an athletic specimen, no doubt. But to me, that's why he's a good fit for this job, where he'll be coaching other guys with superior athleticism. He can help athletes learn how to use it, as he did. You don't get to be a multi-time world champ on athleticism alone. Nor do I think J'Den relied on his athleticism any more than our other top guys, or is even a better athlete than them. Look at our Olympic team. Lee, Zain, Dake, Brooks, Kyle, Mason... all exceptional athletic specimens. I also don't see how you can criticize the quality of his offense, as his technique is pristine and he had an extremely high conversion rate. It's true that he didn't put as many points on the board as other top guys, but I think that's because he knew he didn't need to, since his defense is so good -- and the name of the game is to score more than your opponent. Those are valuable lessons at the international level. I'd be more inclined to agree if he were being brought in as a high school coach or lower-tier college coach, as I have no doubt it can be tough to teach how to make a technique work to one who lacks your athleticism. Anyway, I guess we'll see, but I'm glad to see him on board.2 points

Seriously...how many people would NOT be able to vote if an ID was required??? I'm looking for real numbers...not the mythical made up emotional talking points...but real numbers with real proof. And since some of you are so hell bent that voter fraud isn't a problem because it happens at a small percentage...can you hold that same thought process for the impact of implementing voter ID?? p.s. If you are going to spew any nonsense about "privilege" or "white male" b.s. don't bother.2 points

I remember when I was first getting into wrestling, the first name I remember people talking about nationally was David Craig out of Florida. I know he didn't pan out at all on the college scene but i'll always remember the hype. I think he committed to Lehigh? Maybe wrestled a year.2 points

Tracy McGrady once told a story about Kobe. One offseason, apparently at a hotel, McGrady told Kobe that he was going to go work out. Kobe responded by acting like he was crazy. “What are you going to work out for? We’re in the offseason. You don’t need to work out.” McGrady eventually accepted that idea, went back to his room, changed, and relaxed for a bit. But after a short while he got antsy and decided to go lift. And once he got in the weight room, he saw Kobe lifting.2 points

Tonights press conference may be the end of the disgrace in chief. aptly titled as Jill will likely be there to praise the numbnut for answering all the questions WASHINGTON — President Biden's highly anticipated “big boy” press conference Thursday — his first formal solo press conference in Washington since 2022, where he will address increasing calls to bow out of the 2024 race — has been delayed by one hour and is now scheduled to begin around 6:30 p.m1 point

Glad he's doing well after surgery. ID at a pharmacy will depend on the state and also potentially the pharmacy and drug being prescribed. The last prescription I had filled did not require ID. A lot of the things might require ID some places but not universally, similar to voting.1 point

back to the topic of being polite in mixed company. a while back, my in laws... STAUNCH liberals.. ( they have posed pictures with Hillary and another prominent dem.. escapes me whom...) had a party.. can't remember if it was a birthday or anniversary anyway.. all their friends were there... many from the postal workers union where they worked for many years and were active in union business etc... so i go outside and sit at one of two picnic tables with my niece and we talk about her softball team etc.. eating our burgers a few of the guests come out and sit down.. most look normal... but probably 4 of the 10 had blue/purple hair... and were kind of out there... i just say hi, how you doing... they do same... and sit down at the two tables around us a couple sat in front of me... and i asked them how they were etc... and where they were from ... and how they knew my inlaws... and we had a great convo about families etc as we were talking I could here the table next to us talking about Trump and what an idiot he is... and all kinds of stuff.. just whining etc.. i just ignored it. but the lady in front of me started to piggy back on it and tried to get our table talking about it... she said she just couldn't understand how anyone could support him.. etc.. and wouldn't feel comfortable being around anyone like that and was glad that my inlaws were dems and wouldn't invite someone like that i changed the subject immediately.. asking the husband... ( he had mentioned cars earlier) what kind of car he liked... was he ford/ chevy/dodge etc.. and the started telling me about a car he was redoing and showed me pics... and we had another 10 minutes of fun all this time she started in on the other side of the table.. continuing her complaints again. i asked one of the other guests something about what they had mentioned earlier... and got the convo going in that direction... pretty soon, tired of me changing channels on her.. she asked me what I thought of Trump i said, well , he is an idiot... but given the alternative... and btw, i am a republican... my niece and I were alone within 3 minutes1 point

This doesn't include the kicker about how he could stay if his parents had come illegally, but here's a Bloomberg story for anyone else who doesn't Twitter. https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/removing-documented-dreamers-harms-economy-senators-to-hear Actually here's another article actually by Billy Binion. https://reason.com/2024/07/08/he-immigrated-to-the-u-s-as-a-child-he-was-just-kicked-out-because-he-came-here-legally/ Lots of crazy things about our immigration system. Having a secret password to be let into the country is at the top, but kicking out people who have had all of their education in the American system right when they look to start contributing to the economy is second.1 point

Love 'im or hate 'im, PD3 is a recent example, too. Admission standards have changed in the decades since the 1990s, when guys could still start at a NJCAA program and then win a D1 title, but I believe that D1 college coaches have communicated MUCH better with potential student-athletes that they want eligible, retainable guys for five years, not two. That means, if a top PSA isn't recruitable right out of high school, don't expect to hear from many D1s after your JuCo days are over, as their investments tend to be long-term, not short-term. There are exceptions to that rule but not many. However, Oregon State did hire former Clackamas Community College head coach Josh Rhoden a few years ago. Josh was a master at finding former four-year school castaways and building an empire out in Portland with said guys. The Beavs have landed some tough JuCo champs, but the true test of their viabilities are yet to come. All that being said, the JuCo ranks for D1 talent are WAY thinner now than they've ever been, even if some of their coaches tell you otherwise.1 point
