  1. With regard to recruiting I took a look at Willie's Big Board data and tortured the numbers until they spoke. Rather than post this in the thread that got me to thinking about it, I decided to start a new one here. After playing around with the data a bit I realized that simply averaging the rankings was misleading. The key to success is stringing together top recruiting classes. So if you lay an egg in there it is not a big deal. It is really about nailing it two or three times in a four year window. A good Iowa example of this is that they had their best recruiting classes in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 followed by a title in 2021. On the PSU side from 2020 to 2023 they went 7, 1, 22, 2 and we all know how that ended. As for that 22, it was because they had a single recruit. But that single recruit was Levi Haines, so... Ultimately, I settled on averaging the best three out of four classes for rolling four year windows from 2012 to 2023. Then I determined who had the top 3 classes for those windows. The results: Clearly PSU rules the roost on the recruiting trail. Five times they had the best series of recruiting classes (red) and twice they had the second best (blue). Iowa is mostly third best (green), but overall I would put them behind Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and Cornell. That Iowa tends to outperform three of the four schools in front of them has to be an endorsement of their coaching at the same time it is a mild indictment of their recruiting. Oklahoma State suffers the opposite malady. Results that do not live up to their recruiting ranks. Ultimately these recruiting ranks will need to be updated for transfers. Michigan's ranking ending with 2023 probably moves to around fourth from seventh, for example. Maybe even third. I cheated a bit on ties.

  3. @ThreePointTakedown Clearly you don't like playing your own game. I answered all your questions and all you do is find reason for them to be "ignorant" or "racist"....funny part is I don't care if you do or don't. If someone comes here illegally they are an illegal immigrant...period. That is not racist...period. By the way please point out where II ever said they should be called illegal immigrants after they have come here legally?? You can't! Just like you can't show me any proof that Trump is in fact a bigot or racist...nor where he has indicated he doesn't want any immigration. You can't! Your schtick of babbling incoherently and calling everything you disagree with racist or ignorant is tiresome and worthless. Babble away...I am done playing your stupid game.

  4. Wow...I can't stand the utter arrogant hypocrisy of your posts...man...you are a true whackadoodle. You, of ALL people, should never, EVER, lecture someone on how to post nor tell them to "get off their high horse" and "stop judging". These posts are exactly why EVERONE thinks you are a freaking clown of a poster.

  5. Dimwits are easily mislead by selective framing. Job loss was caused by a pandemic rather than economic conditions. True job creation implies generating new employment opportunities that didn't exist before, rather than restoring previous ones. It was job recovery with the resumption of normal activities. It was not a growth achievement due to new initiatives and policies. Remember that Trump says "Drill baby drill" and Biden canceled projects and took steps to limit domestic oil and gas development. Biden was focused on speeding up the transition to green energy. One would assume gas prices to be higher under Biden based on their words and actions. You don't even need to know that the price of gas is more complex than the policies or lack of policies from Trump and Biden. Excluding the very low prices during the pandemic, current gas prices are still higher under Biden than Trump. Given all this context and surface expectation that Biden sucks on energy prices... what does Biden claim? First he has no responsibility for higher gas prices because it is beyond his control. Then he claims success when gas prices drop by a dollar without mentioning the price was still a dollar higher than previous. Job creation and gas prices are false achievements.

  11. I don't give a s#$% if you think I am ignorant or if you feel sorry for me. A travel ban during a pandemic, like every other freaking country did, is proof that Trump is racist...got it! LOL Again, you keep inferring things in what I said. Stop claiming I said things that I never said, or claiming how I truly feel about things other than what I write. You'll never be able to take what people say for exactly what they say without interjecting some sort of weird boogeyman in your mind. Continuing to call people racist and bigots is cowardly and weak and says a lot more about you then it does the person who you are claiming to be a bigot or racist. No to mention, it waters down the things and people that are actually racist or bigoted, and it is pathetic and sad that you do that. Must be hard for you to get through life with thinking everyone you disagree with has some evil malicious ulterior motive including them being bigot's and racists...but you be you...

  15. And don't forget him drawing down the SPR at political points in time to temporarily & artificially lower prices. And these decisions go totally contrary to the green agenda as the greens would want higher prices. High prices Memorial & Labor weekends etc. should mean more folks stay at home because can't afford to travel thus save the climate and planet correct? Surely folks noticed the bump in climate change when Biden dumped SPR on the market.

  21. Not a big fan of this mentality. The Uber rich are so because they put themselves in a position to hire others, or acquire a lot of money through their services or entertainment. In doing so, they are providing our society with services, goods, products, entertainment, etc.

  24. My overall point is that the best wrestlers are not in the Olympics on any given year, and no asterisk is required. Is it a more challenging to win a tournament with these wrestlers? Rank Name Country Previous 1 Zaurbek Sidakov RUS 1 2 Kyle Dake USA 2 3 Cherman Valiev ALB 3 4 Jason Nolf USA 4 5 Jordan Burroughs USA 5 6 Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov BLR 6 7 Anzor Zakuev RUS NR 8 David Baev RUS 7 9 Daichi Takatani JPN 8 10 Tajmuraz Salkazanov SVK 9 11 Razambek Zhamalov UZB 11 12 Viktor Rassadin TJK NR 13 Georgios Kougioumtsidis GRE 10 14 Khetik Tsabolov SRB 12 15 Ali Abbas Rezaei IRI NR 16 Turan Bayramov AZE 13 Or Rank Name Country Previous 1 Kyle Dake United States 2 2 Daichi Takatani Japan 4 3 Tajmuraz Salkazanov Slovakia 5 4 Razambek Zhamalov Uzbekistan NR 5 Viktor Rassadin Tajikistan 6 6 Cherman Valiev Albania 7 7 Georgios Kougioumtsidis Greece 8 8 Khetik Tsabolov Serbia 9 9 Turan Bayramov Azerbaijan 10 10 Younes Emami Iran 11 11 Geandry Garzon Cuba 13 12 Amr Hussen Egypt 14 13 Anthony Montero Venezuela 15 14 Iman Mahdavi Refugee Team NR 15 Bacar Ndum Guinea-Bissau 16 Sidakov lost to Bizhoev a couple months before Worlds. 2023 Worlds would have been more challenging if Bizhoev was allowed to participate as opposed to Anthony Wesley (Cape Verde). There is no need for an asterisk at 74KG.

  25. This argument doesn't really apply considering the circumstances around Sidakov making the 2023 team. Sidakov was allowed to sit out of Russian Nationals in 2023 because of his previous accomplishments. The Russian Wrestling Federation said the 74 kg spot would be determined by the winner of Russian Nationals vs Sidakov. Chermen Valiev won Russian Nationals over Timur Bizhoev and Sidakov beat Valiev in August of 2023. Valiev was originally supposed to wrestle Sidakov at the Commonwealth Cup but requested more time in between Russian Nationals and the wrestle-off. So Sidakov used the Commonwealth Cup as a "tune-up" event for his world team wrestle-off with Valiev.

  31. Clearly running a top-notch program in terms of recruiting and getting already good wrestlers to continue performing at a high level. Can he take an average kid and turn him into a stud? I'm not really a PSU fan - I don't have enough knowledge about their program to give examples.

  35. Apology accepted lol. A lot of program success ultimately comes down to booster support. No one thought Cornell would be a top wrestling destination years ago but they have poured into the program and reaped success. SDSU has shown that they are committed with new facilities and such. We will see if the recruiting ticks upward because if it does, look out! Hahn and staff know how to develop guys with the best of them.

  36. It’s the reason why we have states. They don’t all have the same values or beliefs and are different. The states that didn’t lock down were smart and right. Yep, history is chock full of useful information.

  37. Well I think both Anthony (committing to Iowa despite them not actually recruiting him) and Angelo (throwing the PSU hat despite them not actually recruiting him) Ferrari have shown us that you can still “consider” schools that aren’t actually recruiting you.

  41. I don't necessarily think it is Burrows. I think he is still salty about the entire situation and how Burrows benefitted from sitting out. Earlier in the interview he mentioned wrestling the tournament and then wrestling Jordan, and he repeated that statement three times in a row. While he may not be a fan of Jordan's, if he was able to face him without the mini-tournaments, he may feel different. I'm sure he feels that he would have been the 74 rep early in his career if that were the case.

  44. Is there an asterisk if Yaz wins, given the favored Taylor will not be there? No. Is there an asterisk if the favored wrestler is upset early, and the eventual champ doesn't wrestle them? No. Is there an asterisk when there are wrestlers at home that are better than the competitors in the bracket? No. Is there an asterisk from 2022 when Fujinami Akari missed the WC with an injury, and Dom Parrish won gold? No. Is there an asterisk when Iran loses to Israel by faked injury? No. The official record and recognition of the champion remains valid.

  45. Yup. But Bassett’s “list” is getting people to talk about schools that probably wouldn’t be talked about otherwise!

  46. I think this is wrong. Kolat built up Campbell a few levels and as far as I know didn’t leave because of the issues you describe, but probably because he wanted to focus more on the wrestlers and not admin stuff. Navy is a unique DI program where that might be more possible than non-academy schools. Henson was not able to do much at WVU, and jumped ship every year or two before he was a head coach. Navy has been fairly competitive since Kolat took over. i don’t think the comparison you made is accurate here, other than Kolat moved around a lot for a period of time.
