Age is just a number! Kind of nice being my age....great career/life including 45 NCAA Championships/39 in a row, many Big Tens, World Cups, State tournaments in 2 states, dual and individual, and much more. Uncountable number of clinics both worked and attended. Aches and pains, but would do it all over again.4 points

I pointed this out last week, but it is worth reiterating. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks have been on a roll this season. Based on pre-season rankings, Lehigh was expected to score 19 points at the NCAA tournament, good for 27th, with the largest share coming from Connor McGonagle at 133 as the #8 ranked wrestler in the weight. My how things have changed. McGonagle last wrestled a month and a half ago at the David Lehman Open. And Ryan Crookham (or as it was spelled before his family moved from the old country, Crooham), has taken 133 by the throat to sit atop the rankings. Joining Crookham in storming the rankings are: Luke Stanich, who went from unranked in the pre-season to #2 at 125 (I know, everyone thinks their guy is #2 at 125), Michael Beard, who went from #10 in the pre-season to #3 at 197, Nathan Taylor, who went from #19 in the pre-season to #8 at 285. On the back of these impressive performances this season, the Mountain Hawks now project as a top 10 team with 64.5 points. And with the spread between 4 and 11 so tight this year, I would not be surprised to see them standing on the podium completely pissed off that this is the year the NCAA decided to cheap out on trophies. I mean, with $1.3 billion in revenue in 2023 and $565 million in assets, I understand the NCAA's need to tighten the belt on those fourth place trophies. Have you seen trophy inflation this year? Now can we talk about Missouri? Same graph, different highlight. And the race for the title got "tighter".3 points

I thought it was interesting that Brands, in the pre-OSU/Iowa press conference, made reference to the "bad blood" between the two teams stemming from Olympic Coach Gable's unabashed advocacy in legal proceedings of his Iowa guy, Randy Lewis, to get the 1984 Olympic team spot instead of the guy that won trials, OSU's Lee Roy Smith (John's older brother), ultimately leading to Gable's censure by USA Wrestling. But is there really any lingering bad blood? Even in the wrestling community, far more don't know the story than know it. And in Flo's article, they talk about Brands' references to "understanding wrestling history" and "bad blood," but completely whiff in understanding what he was talking about: “(Dan) Gable, Randy Lewis, Lee Roy Smith, 1984,” Brands said on Tuesday, going through some of the names and dates of the series, which Oklahoma State leads 29-25-2. “You can keep going. And those are things that are real, they're real, and enough time has gone by where maybe it’s, ‘Let's let bygones be bygones,’ but I'm not sure it really works that way. I think that those pains run deep. They run deep.” https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/12160118-iowa-wrestling-heading-to-oklahoma-state-with-plenty-of-lineup-options C'mon man. Brands wasn't "going through some of the names and dates of the series." This is one very specific event in wrestling history that exploded the rift between Iowa and everyone else, and especially with OSU. Pretty much no one agreed it was the right outcome, except diehard Iowa fans and the arbitrator, swayed by the head Olympic Coach (and Iowa coach) demanding for a re-wrestle of the last 80-some seconds of the match. But it also was 40 years ago. Its a good bet Gable and the Smith family haven't forgotten, and Brands hasn't, but has everyone else? A longtime Iowa sportswriter authored that article and no one at Flo saw what he missed. If you're interested, run a google search. You'll find a number a contemporaneous articles from 1984, which are your best source. Or check out Wrestlers at the Trials, a neat little book by James Moffatt. Interesting stuff.3 points

Physiologically, yes, this is a thing, no different from cyclists having extremely low heart rates. Body temperature management has a big impact on metabolism and cardiovascular performance. It is not ridiculous at all to think that core temperature management is part of the things that Cael and co are working on. In 20 years when somebody finally writes the book on the recipe in that room, we will look back on what they have built/are building the same way much of sports science looks back on old soviet methods today, absolutely pioneering and decades ahead of their time.3 points

Dake-DT would be bigger if Taylor hadn't gotten stuck in the finals his RSFR year. Yeah yeah, Dake did it at four different weights but KOT prevailed in what was arguably the toughest weight class each year. But we're getting waaaay ahead of ourselves in this debate.2 points

They would find out and not be upset, they would adjust the terms of the loan to fit the situation. The banks are not in the business of losing money on loans. It does happen but they are careful. In Trump's case they verified asset worth and overall found it favorable and went ahead with the loan. But he was prosecuted anyway. And this is why businesses are very concerned in NY and why the governor felt the need to try to tamp those concerns down by saying they are not Trump so they will not be prosecuted. mspart2 points

I'm asking you seriously @Ban Basketball ...why did you even come back on here?? It's one thing to provide an opinion, even if it is as crazy as some on here are, and debate those opinions, but to post nothing but ridiculous things that adds nothing to any conversations is extremely unappealing and makes it very difficult to read through threads. You have been banned several times now and then come back and just engage in the same behavior but at an even higher level of frequency and craziness...what do you get out of that?? Do you want to just get banned permanently so you can play the victim...AGAIN?? Is that somehow enjoyable to you? Seriously!?!2 points

In the FLO doc on the Buckeyes, they wore rings that monitored vitals ie heart rate, temp, distance, etc. I know the Premier League has their athletes wear something that tracks similar stats/vitals. Wonder if PSU has/does the same.2 points

For VA, Devin Carter is probably the best out of the state, but I could be overlooking someone from many years ago. Dude was a freak athlete and nearly pulled off the unthinkable of winning a natty title when he was sidelined with a season ending hamstring injury in January ( I think) Had it been anyone but Logic in the finals, pretty sure he’d have won2 points

I’m sure everyone has seen this but didn’t see a topic about it. Brock posted the first picture yesterday after the duel then I guess got some heat from Penn state fans so then posted the second picture today. I thought it was funny and not a cheap shot but then he looks classy with the second post.2 points

I want to live in a country where people pay their dues regardless of merit. Consider this hypothetical: someone only pays a fraction of their massive loan over many years. What does that say about their responsibility and decision-making? Would you trust them to care for you? Extreme loan forgiveness only exacerbates the problem. It drives up education costs, feeding into bloated administrative structures and inflated salaries. Let supply and demand dictate prices. The market will adjust if there's a shortage of doctors in the mountains. Government intervention distorts the system and burdens taxpayers. Otherwise, who decides? I've personally trained about 50 new engineers, so should my house loan be paid off? I've paid month after month on house loans for 20 years. Without this burden and the responsibility to help with my children's education, I would start a business and create new jobs.2 points

I'll give you a couple of reasons that I've heard over the years as to why Pa is so good. 1. Back in the day (40s-50s in particular) the top 4 wrestling colleges in the state sent their coaches out to local high schools to give clinics as the sport was in its HS infancy. Those areas where the colleges were became the states hot spots. One might surprise you. In no particular order- A. Western Pa (WPIAL)- Pitt (Rex Peery) B. North Central Pa- Penn State (Doc Speidel) C Eastern Pa- Lehigh (Sheridan/Leeman) D. South Central Pa- F&M (Believe it or not- they were among the top teams in the country back in the day) (Uncle Charley Mayser) 2. The State College system. Used to be known as the State Teachers Colleges. Several of them have dropped over the years. The PSAC was never a qualifying conference but the league tournament was one of the best in the country. So what would happen is that a kid would wrestle in HS, go to one of these colleges to wrestle and to become a teacher. Would get a job as a teacher and a coach and the cycle would continue in an upward motion.2 points

Is the SAVE program limited to people working for the government (public service) or is it open to anyone with a Federal loan? (No public service is required.) Do you have to be a US citizen to qualify? (no, I think it's open to eligible noncitizen refugees, etc.) How did the SAVE program get created and funded? Congress? (I don't know. The Department of Education decided to and issue regulations?) How is the SAVE program different than previous IDR programs? Cut payments on undergraduate loans in half. Bring many borrowers’ loan payments to $0 per month. If they keep up with their required payments, ensure that borrowers never see their balance grow. Provide early forgiveness for low-balance borrowers. 10 years rather than 20-25 years in some cases. How are people enrolled in SAVE? (is automatic for some) There are now 7.5 million borrowers enrolled in the SAVE Plan, of whom 4.3 million have a $0 payment. ----------- This seems different than the GI bill. -------- GI Bill is fine; military veterans deserve help returning to civilian life in exchange for putting their lives at risk for our security. But can you imagine the controversy surrounding a retroactive GI Bill? These vets made a choice for benefits at certain costs. And if later the vets were given expanded benefits without concern for cost, equity, administrative feasibility, legal consideration, and public perception?1 point

Let me try break it down for you. I’ll use myself as an example. Voted for Obama (once). Didn’t vote for Trump in 16 or 20. Will use my upcoming Nov vote on the person that I feel will best keep Joe Biden out of office. Unless something changes that appears to be Trump. Do I want Trump as President ??? No. But I’ll take him over Biden any day of the week and twice on Sundays.1 point

https://vpc.org/more-than-2200-non-self-defense-deaths-involving-concealed-carry-killers-since-2007-latest-violence-policy-center-research-shows/ More Than 2,200 Non-Self Defense Deaths Involving Concealed Carry Killers Since 2007, Latest Violence Policy Center Research Shows For Release: Thursday, April 21, 2022 Overall, Concealed Carry Killers documents 1,981 fatal, non-self defense incidents since May 2007 in 40 states and the District of Columbia, resulting in the deaths of 2,240 people. Thirty-seven of the incidents were fatal mass shootings as defined by federal law (three or more victims killed), resulting in the deaths of 183 victims. At least 24 law enforcement officers have died at the hands of concealed carry killers since May 2007. This is a website that is a proponent of no concealed carry. They cite over 2000 deaths since May 2007. Of those, over 1200 are suicide, so that is not really a consideration. They could have done that without a permit so now there are much less. Of the rest, about 500 have been convicted, and as you can see the numbers go way down from there. So 800 homicides in 15 years, that's a rate of 53.3 homicides a year by people with concealed permits. Putting this into perspective, Chicago had over 700 gun deaths per year since 2020. 2 a day. Think of that. Per https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/04/26/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/ , In 2021, 21000 murders with guns were perpetrated. Perhaps 53 of those by people with concealed permits. It would seem that there is plenty of reason to go after everyone else but concealed carry permit holders. 53 to 20947 which is a ratio of 1 to 395. How many of the murders in 2021 were with illegal guns? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States A 2000 study showed a strong association between the availability of illegal guns and violent crime rates, but not between legal gun availability and violent crime rates.[212] And there you have it. Legal guns are not associated with violent crime rates whereas illegal guns or illegally held guns are. mspart1 point
