Thomas Sowell says things in 2016 that are more true today. If you want to know how a libertarian-conservative thinks about issues... It is astonishing that some people think that the answer to the problems of Obamacare is to go to a “single-payer” system. But “single payer” is another way to say “government monopoly.” Does anyone notice how government monopolies operate — from the local DMV to Veterans Administration hospitals? Politics has turned the lofty ideal of equality into the ugly reality of resentment of other people’s achievements — and a feeling that the world owes you something while you owe nobody anything. The political Left’s hatred of Donald Trump is ironic because both he and they have the same pattern of automatically demonizing those who disagree with their views rather than confronting opposing arguments with hard evidence or convincing logic. If the media seriously wanted to report the news — instead of spinning it — they could stop calling rioters “protesters” and stop calling terrorists “militants.” Letter from a reader: “The socialists want to take the ‘sting’ out of poverty. They don’t understand that it’s the ‘sting’ that got everyone I know out of poverty and not a minimum wage.” Have we reached the ultimate stage of absurdity where some people are held responsible for things that happened before they were born, while other people are not held responsible for what they themselves are doing today? Any decent human being can sympathize with the plight of Middle East refugees. But other refugees have been helped in their own part of the world — with money, food, medicine, and other things, in settings more compatible with their own way of life, rather than being brought across an ocean to a country that neither fits them nor which they fit in. Have you ever encountered even one human being — whether in person, in print, or in the broadcast media — who denied climate change? If not, why do you suppose zealots for the catastrophic “global warming” theory want laws passed to punish “climate-change deniers”? Is it because they are losing the battle of evidence on “global warming” and need to shut up others? One of the mysteries of the ages is why the political Left has, for centuries, lavished so much attention on the well-being of criminals and paid so little attention to their victims. The monumental tragedies of the 20th century — a worldwide Great Depression, two devastating World Wars, the Holocaust, famines killing millions in the Soviet Union, and tens of millions in China — should leave us with a sobering sense of the threats to any society. But this generation’s ignorance of history leaves them free to be frivolous — until the next catastrophe strikes and catches them completely by surprise.5 points

maybe. Penn State really doesn't need any help winning this match. So far I'm very impressed with the young Buckeyes.5 points

For all the grief people give Ohio State about their bottom wrestling, Kilkeary and Bouzakis just got right out from bottom from two fantastic top wrestlers5 points

no its just a dumbass ref who froze up when it was time to make a big call and then backed himself up for reasons i would call moral cowardice.5 points
-
Are the refs actually that inept? I mean missing it live is bad, but watching it again and making the wrong call is embarrassing.5 points

Even more than being good, he's unconventional, exciting, and must-watch wrestling.5 points

I'm a huge Penn State homer but even I can admit Davis was taken down and probably gave up 2 back points in the final session. That was DEFINITELY home cooking there for Davis.3 points

These refs suk!!! And I don’t care who wins but clueless3 points

That’s the worst no takedown I’ve ever seen in my life. What do they want him to do? Obviously there is reaction time but that doesn’t consist of 6 seconds to roll around and try to escape and get out of bottom…. horrible. I don’t care for the Mendez call but at least it’s close.3 points

Why even wrestle—the ref should just give Penn State the meet.3 points

Because his school is never a real threat, nobody hates him and everybody loves him. He's been really good for a really long time, and that's pretty impressive and makes no enemies.3 points

With PSU less than two months away from losing two three time champs, I thought we could take a look at what the landscape currently looks like for guys who can make a three legged stool with their trophies. I think everyone is generally familiar with this: A while back I dabbled with the idea of eras in college wrestling. After spending a little time with the historical rules I came up with something that divided our history into four eras based on a combination of how many weights, All-Americans per weight, and the importance of individual first place in team scoring. That looks like this: Combining the two we get a breakdown of three time champs per era (I maintained the sort order based on all eras combined): Fourth Era (1979 - present, 10 weights, 8 AA's, first place < 30% of placement): It is Iowa's world, we all just live in it... For now (cough, PSU, cough). But PSU will fall farther back this year as two three timers become two four timers. OK State matters. Screw you Fresno State. Three three-timers in the modern era and you drop wrestling? For shame. Current three timers who WILL become four timers: Carter "StarRocky" Starocci, Aaron "Amen" Brooks Current two timers who WILL become three timers: Keegan "O'Funky" O'Toole2 points

This week, Jagger decided to change things up for the mailbag! Instead of its customary written format, it'll be in video form. Topics addressed are Olympic redshirts, his introduction to college wrestling, wrestling snacks, Trent Hidlay in a Royal Rumble, MMA, the all-important question, "Is Jagger a Swiftie?" and more. Have fun, subscribe to our YouTube channel and let Jagger know what you think about the video format.2 points

There is a chance PSU only loses two guys going into next year and will have SVN back, I hardly think that's cause for a punt season. The way they've stacked the recruits on top of each other I'd say there isn't a chance for a punt for at least 5-6 years.2 points
