  1. Since the NCAA will only allow 1 championship, what do we think of doing a dual national championship, and then do the individual championship with no team champ. I know that would be a HUGE change, the casual fans would probably enjoy that better.
  2. 125 - Stanich 133 - Fix 141 - Mendez 149 - Lovett 157 - Haines 165 - O'Toole 174 - Lewis 184 - Keckeisen 197 - Brooks 285 - Kerkvliet
  3. MAC: Tom Borrelli *He has been good for a very long time, producing individuals and good teams!
  4. My top program coaches from each conference. Whether they run the day to day practice or just the CEO, here are the coaches who get the most out of their teams year in and year out. This is NOT a team ranking for this year, it's year in and year out. ACC: NC State's Pat Pop *He may have the best culture in the country! Big 10: Penn State's Cael Sanderson *Simply the best for a long time now. Big 12: Missouri's Brian Smith. * I know, I left the legend off, but this Smith gets it done NOW. EIWA: Cornell's Mike Grey * Is he riding Koll's wave? Idk, but I think he is trending in the right direction! PAC 12: Oregon State's Chris Pendleton * I know he hasn't done it as long as the others, but he seems on the right track! So Con: Appalachian State's JohnMark Bentley * He may do more with less than anyone in the country!
  5. Doing something in the last 15 seconds of the period is better than doing nothing in the last 15 seconds of a period. The riding time point has slowed down wrestling too much, but this would still give value to controlling someone. I think this would be easier to explain to the non wrestling fan too. I still think we need to make reversals the same as takedowns too!
  6. I think it's important to reward control aka Riding Time BUT, it's slowing down matches. It seems every match at the Southern Scuffle has had an issue with the clock workers running it the wrong way or not starting it. What if, we added a point at the end of each period if you finished the period on top? It would encourage folks to be more aggressive on their feet and then get that final ride-out. This would eliminate those long delays in a match which isn't good for the sport or fans. Just a thought.
  7. I think 125 is the easiest as well. That's another reason why I think it should be raised a bit, maybe 130. It brings more competitive talent to the weight class. Even small guys are cutting hard. I know a 125 guy who walks around over 140 out of season. Let him cut, but not to 125. Raise all the weights a few pounds.
  8. My only problem is that Stalling is too subjective. We have all seen the official who has taken the match into his own hands, and made crazy match deciding calls. I want the wrestlers to decide the match, not the official. In a perfect world, it would make these stall calls more objective. You have to have specific criteria like dropping below the knee for 5 seconds is a stall rather than "not attempting to secure a take down". Words like that make it up to the official and isn't good for any sport. Tom Ryan suggested to get rid of stalling completely. I can definitely see his point.
  9. Davidson IntraSquad matches: 125: Johnny Hager major over Ennis Ljikovic 133: Jackson Sichelstiel dec over Hale Robinson 141: Devin Diaco dec over Bryce Clement 149: Tyler McKnight tech fall over Josh Viarengo 149: Brock Carey pin over Noah Frack 157: Ian McGhee over Dan Yetsick 174: Marc Koch over Savoy New 197: Cameo Blakenship major dec over Dylan Smith 285: Jake Fernicola dec over DJ Spring
  10. I don't like it as a SoCon fan. Smaller programs, with smaller budgets which would be hard on travel cost. For example, App State vs Campbell is a great rivalry, and has a packed gym that anyone would love to have, and they wouldn't be in the same conference??? Davidson is like 30 minutes from Queens and they wouldn't be in the same conference?
  11. With the PAC 12 dissolving for football, Oregon St and Stanford could lose big television money, even if they get picked up by the Mtn West Conference, which has a significantly lesser payday than what the PAC 12 had. If they become an Independent, it could even cost them more athletic department money. I say this, because if there is less money, schools look to chop programs. I hope this doesn't screw wrestling, but I have a bad feeling that it might.
  12. I thought about tournament scoring on my motorcycle ride. I am not sure I love it, but I like hearing other's ideas. Still use my dual team scoring, but with a twist depending on what round you are in. For example, win by pin in round 1, you get 10 points (just like in dual). Win by pin in round 2, you multiply it by 2, so 20 team points. Con rounds are multiplied by a 1/2, so win by pin in con round 1, you get 5 team points, round 2 in cons, 10 team points. Win by 4 points in the quarters (round 3), so you would do 4x3 and get 12 team points. NCAA finals, if you win by 1 point, you would only get 5 team points, which seems like it doesn't reward enough points. Maybe add placement points too. I am trying to keep it simple but reward scoring.
  13. If I am losing 5-0, I can help my team by getting off the bottom, or take the shot if I am on my feet, where I really don't have a chance to help my team normally if I am down 5-0 on the bottom or down 5-0 on my feet.
  14. If I could change HS/NCAA scoring, I would change the dual team scoring, and I believe, it would increase scoring in individual matches. Go back to 2 point takedowns though. Tech Falls are 10 points instead of 15. Now, here is how it works: If my guy wins, 10-3, my team gets 7 team points. If your guy techs or pins my guy, you get 10 team points. If I win 1-0, I get 1 team point. This makes every point worth fighting for. No more laying on bottom, I want to get an escape to save my team a point. The most I can score for my team is 10 points (whether pin, tech, dq, or forfeit). I am sure this would make it easier for non wrestling people understand it easier, and would increase scoring in duals. That said, I don't know how to score tournaments that would increase scoring. Any ideas?
