So you predicted Nico Provo beating Brett Ungar in the finals at 125? And you predicted Lorenzo Norman beating Shane Griffith? What about Izzak Olejnik over Julian Ramirez for the title and David Carr over Cam Amine for 3RD!!! Come on now. This is a bad take, even for Mr. Cinnabon.7 points

Did you predict Iowa State would win even without Carr in the finals? Predictable? Nonsense.4 points

He had Hofstra as a top ten program in the country. His wrestlers have won World and Olympic Titles. He coached a 4xNCAA champion. He won a team title and several Big Ten titles. It's easy to see what someone is doing wrong when they're doing so much right. Also keep in mind that he's stuck coaching in the Cael Sanderson era. Cael is our current coaching GOAT. If not for Cael.....4 points

Ohio State has as many NCAA titles as Iowa over the past decade. Three seconds in that time. Ryan is doing OK.4 points

Looks like Ohio state is exceeding the experts' predictions thus far this year, rankings wise. So, why are so many Penn State wrestling fans so critical of anything Ohio State wrestling? They've got to be the most insecure fan base in sports4 points

Average finish of 4.5 the last 8 years..... not bad. Team is trending up right now... not bad... This thread.... bad. 4th, 13th, 9th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st3 points

lol just because he’s not Cael doesn’t mean he’s “not good.” They do seem to have a decent amount of guys that have their best years as freshmen (Martin, Tomasello), but they’ve also had guys steadily improve (Romero). And Luke Pletcher from 2019 to 2020 might be one of the better 1 year improvements in recent memory.3 points

With 4 freshman and a true sophomore. They are right in this team race. It was a good tournament. Mistakes were made . They will go back to Columbus and improve. Unfortunately we lost Sasso for the year when some idiot shot him. I for one am glad he survived. This team is getting better by the week.3 points

Jetlag, concussion, mono, herpes, covid,Ivy league school, women. Come on, we need to agree on something to stick with. Let's wait til the Cleric Pyles or the all knowing JD are able to clear this up. Btw, He won world's in Free, which is not nearly as taxing as folk. Winning over Andonian will gas ya. Then you have to wrestle a tough kid that's lost 3 matches in College so far. He gassed. But I'll wait for FRL to confirm my suspicion.2 points

Based on the rankings there were 96 matches where the lower ranked wrestler won. I don’t think that’s predictable, but happy to hear your thoughts. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/11563528-every-upset-at-the-2023-cliff-keen-las-vegas-invitational2 points

There is much and little to discuss in this thread. A bit of a comic anomaly... 1. 2019 Two out of five. Right? I believe we listed the wrestlers and posted about it in another thread a day or so ago... 2. @Hammerlock3 gave the Buckeyes at least two compliments. That tells anyone who is anyone all they need to know. Kudos for that combined with the thread title...2 points

There are 4 active DI head coaches that have won team titles, with Tom Ryan being one. Calling him a "shitty coach" is one of the wilder takes I've heard in a long time.2 points

I'm with Midwest. I thought it was very exciting and had a ton of high quality wrestlers taking part.2 points

Nice responses, thanks. I did not say anything yesterday, and my son didn’t say anything about it so I am going to see assume he didn’t notice. He came up and asked me “can you show me how to defend that cradle, I don’t know what I’m doing down there” Have thought about it a lot since the time occurred, and knew what my plan was before posting above, but was just curious to see others thoughts, how they may handle it. My plan is this….I’ll see him Tuesday night, and at some point I’ll ask if he’s got a minute. And I’m not going to talk to him not as a pissed off dad, but rather, give him a short back ground, ask him if he agrees with me that we could use a whole lot more kids going through wrestling these days, and explain to him that a kid walked out there not wanting to be there, but threw his feet to the fire knowing he was going to get the shit kicked out of him but because he’s been lead to believe it will do him a lot of good…and you laughed at him. As one wrestling coach to another I’d just ask you to think about that.2 points

All of this leads me to believe either the ref was not signaling concussion protocol and that was not the issue or he passed concussion protocol and continued to wrestle.2 points

I think his point was that Mendez was in fact part of the 2022 class…2 points

Shapiro getting the spencer lee treatment already? He lost so he must be hurt or sick2 points

If the ref signals concussion protocol how can it not at least be initiated? Surely the Cornell staff can't just ignore that?2 points

He is hurt, possibly from the end of the Andonian match (he received a leg hit to the leg in the final scramble). Early in his second match, there was a high-speed scramble that ended off camera, followed by the Cornell corner coming over. The ref then gave the "fist to the forehead" sign indicating concussion protocol, which was not initiated. It was pretty clear that there was a head issue after that. Really surprised he was allowed to continue. I'll be surprised if he goes to the Collegiate Duals in two weeks. He does not have a conditioning problem, that is clear.2 points

Moore was a lock and has had Cormier levels of bad draws his whole career. When it’s his time at NCAAs covid happens. Finally gets the chance to shine at 92 this year and his body is ripped to shreds at the worst possible time.2 points

I think at least one of Pletcher, Moore or Sasso probably wins in 2020. But we’ll never know2 points

Well you can make the case they haven’t had an ncaa champ since 2018 when Synder won his 3rd and they haven’t had a champ not named Synder since Myles Martin in 2016 , that’s a pretty serious drought and this year doesn’t look great either , guys still don’t improve on bottom which has been an issue for a long time but Tom Ryan built that program up to championship level so no way you can say he’s a bad coach but maybe his message has gotten stale , maybe they haven’t evolved in other areas of training like Penn State or maybe they need to bring in a big name outsider as an assistant but if they want to win another title and battle it out with PSU again they need to do something different Once you compare them to anyone other then PSU and Iowa they are elite as it gets still. 60 something programs would kill to be on Ohio states level year in and year out and would jump on Tom Ryan in a minute if he ever left.2 points

Garrett Thompson has looked good to start this year, took out Olguin and Connor Brady at cklv , knocked off AA Peyton Hall a few weeks ago too , good for the bobcats maybe they can have an AA this season2 points

They shouldn't have been DI in the first place. When you go from DII to DI, you jump from 36 to 63 full ride football scholarships. A school like Lindenwood with 7,000 students can't afford that for long before having to cut some other programs. All about the Benjamins.2 points

I'm a big fan Of Ohio State and Penn State. I'm from Ohio and my nephew who is from Ohio was a 2 time all-American for Penn State. What Cael and his coaching staff has done is amazing . Cael will surpass Dan Gable no doubt. Tom Ryan and his coaching staff have done a tremendous job. Its just when you try to compare there is good size gap. But trust me there are a lot of division ! teams who would love to have the success that Tom Ryan and his coaching staff has had the last few years.2 points

he also fanboys the favorite in whatever match he is announcing.2 points

Would be interesting to get some numbers on this but I think this sentiment is a little overblown. I don't follow the program assiduously, but I believe they have been hammered by injuries lately which could contribute to some of the top recruits having "down" performances. On the other hand, Mendez is looking like the favorite to win the title, as of this moment at least.2 points

The naysayers seemed to think DT was announcing like he was a PSU commercial. (Which wasn't entirely wrong.) Aside from that, DT was dang impressive with his technical breakdowns. His announcing is really quite good.1 point
