  1. Now find where it was removed from the rulebook. You’ve ruined my Thanksgiving for the last time!

  2. This. I think Hamiti came out of the gun with some really slick takedowns but he's been scouted enough that he isn't catching the top guys off guard anymore.

  3. Taylor brought this up at the all star classic and I thought it was a good idea. With 3 point takedowns and 2,3,4 point near fall, the major decision should probably be adjusted to 10 points. I always thought that 15 for a tech fall was a little high so I’m ok with keeping that where it is but I think the MD should go up to 10. A prime example was the 125 match which was about as close as a match as you can get, but the score ended up as a major decision (Ramos was up 3-2, Noto goes for a desperation move and gives up 7). If one move can get you 7 points now, a major needs to be more than 8 points. Plus 10 and 15 would be easy numbers for the casual fan. What do you all think?

  5. Ouch. Now obviously have to give credit to Olejnik, not everyone turns these things around. Hamiti is also enormous, the weight might be getting to him. He is also by and large a two-trick pony and may have been figured out. He has sneaky ankle picks, and will try to catch you in a cradle in the transition. These are things that always wow a college fanbase because they rarely happen, but if you are able to avoid being headhunted, and have the strength to stay in good position when he tries to tether-ball himself off your neck in one direction and the other, you’ll most likely be alright.

  8. You understand it was three points for a five second count, correct? It was changed to four points for a four second count. You are looking at it in a singular dimension, points, when the scoring involves two dimensions in points and time. Meaning before with a four swipe you would get two points, now it is four. You can't maths and it is annoying that you are stupid. I legitimately laid the math out for you, so it isn't ignorance. Happy Thanksgiving.

  9. It's interesting when someone tries to win an argument by hyperbolic verbiage.... It is neither as nice as a silk purse or as bad as a a sow's ear... the broadcast was good. I have been with flow since the get go as well. I watch 4K with great surround sound at home, as well as pod casts of all different quality. Access to info, video, news in all formats has changed. I would love if Flow was higher quality and easier to navigate, but it has improved a lot and I'm glad to have the access and content.

  10. Personally, I would prefer we actually require a new hold to score multiple turns. Overall, I think the current freestyle rules are great, but that’s one rule that I would go back to go. I know they want more points and that’s cool, but I think it can rob us of some great wrestling…but that’s a different topic

  12. I’m really looking forward to different perspectives that change my opinion on this. I love wrestling and I don’t want this change to bug me all year. Right now it really does. I just watched the Ohio State wrestle-offs. I really dislike how overweighted a 3 point takedown is compared to other scoring events. I’m open to change (I watch freestyle just as much) but I really don’t think this gets the job done. We now have a ruleset that aggressively overweights the takedown, and feels like it will drive everything to a poor facsimile of freestyle. I admit I didn’t do my homework before watching, but I was rather taken aback by how different a 3 point takedown impacted match pace. This ruleset removes a number of different possibilities for interesting exchanges actually making a match equal, and it doesn’t reward the awesome non-controlled exposure throws that freestyle and greco do, which are what make freestyle so awesome to me. Someone who likes this ruleset, I’m begging you, please change my mind and help me like this rule change.

  13. I think we will look back at the 3 point takedown as a huge mistake. Guys already were getting one takedown and sitting on the lead for a win. Now you can do that even more. Get a takedown in the first, allow two escapes, get an escape of your own, and with a 2 point lead you can get 2 stall calls and win the match. The leadership behind this decision is f’ing stupid…. Not to mention they changed the one thing fans actually engage in; yelling TWOOOOO when there is a takedown.

  15. I'm not sure Brooks is putting on an act. He seems very genuine. Although Brooks has said some pretty controversial stuff Ferrari has actually nearly killed people, has made death threats on video and has has made some pretty disgusting comments towards women, also on video. There is no comparison.

  16. I think we all understand how the swimmer could be lead astray. After all he is a self proclaimed know nothing with regard to the great sport of wrestling. But for a true wrestling fan to be fooled is most disappointing. Sure it may be true that some kid in west central PA back in the 50s claimed he "pinfalled" his opponent in the finals while winning "states" but we all know there are no high-school "states" tournament just as there is no ridiculous "pinfall" move.

  26. I think it would make sense to raise techs too. Apparently Bo Bassett teched all 5 of his opponents at the Shorty Hitchcock Open in the first period, 4 of them in under 2 minutes. Obviously he’s a great wrestler, but might be time to make techs a little harder as well.

  31. FWIW, the 4 point nearfall was a bigger increase compared to the old 3 point nearfall. 2 point TD to 3 point TD = 50% increase 3 points for 5 seconds to 4 points for 4 seconds = 67% increase

Some recent non-D1s who could have (and did) compete fairly well against D1s: Nick Becker - UW-Parkside Joe Rau - Elmhurst College Ryan Prater - Elmhurst College Brandon Reed - Lindsey Wilson University Jason Shinoster - UW - Whitewater There are more, but I am in a time crunch.

  45. Paul, Thanks for your kind words...Jimmy Brown was my only loss my junior year in HS. He won 3-2 in the State Semi's at 107lbs, and yes, he was pretty tough. My sophomore year at MSU, we were ranked #1 and UM was #2...Jim was UM's 118 and my head coach, Grady Peninger, came into the locker room and told me that he thinks Brown might bump up to 126 to wrestle me since he beat me in HS. That way UM could possibly win the first two matches instead of maybe just one. I was so hoping they would bump him up...but they didn't! They ended up beating us anyway. My history has always been, if I beat someone the first time, I never lose to him in future matches and if I lose to someone the first time, I have never lost the ensuing encounters. So he's one up on me..forever! I had a lot of respect for Jim, for one, I'm not easy to beat and he did it, and two he had a very nice career at UM. The only guy in my entire career to beat me both times we ever wrestled was Mike Frick, Lehigh. In fact at the East/West All Star match in Madison, Wis., in '76 Mike was at 142 and I was at 134. When we were taking the group picture, we were next to each other and I had some brownies and he was eyeing them up and down. I offered a couple of big pieces to him hoping that would make him think about staying at 42...damn, he didn't take any and ended beating me in the finals in Tucson. Look back at some of the guys he beat. I think that year he started at 150 and ended up at 134 for NCAA's. He beat Churella (at 150) in the Midlands that year something like 7-1 but he has nice resume of former and future NCAA champions that he had beaten during his career. Anyway, thanks for your comments and reliving the pain of remembering Jim Brown! haha.
