Greetings All, Quickly put this together. All 'Ratings' are via Wrestlestat and are just that - RATINGS. I didn't use Wrestlestat's lineup as some of those guys aren't even listed on their rosters and are listed at different weights than on Wrestlestat... That said... here you go. #22 Campbell WT - Rank Name - Class, 22/23 Record, Result(Notes) 125 - #50 Anthony Molton - JR, 13W-9L, 1W-2L @ SOCON 133 - #16 Domenic Zaccone - JR, 21W-7L, 1W-2L @ NCAA 141 - #38(149) Chris Rivera - JR, 11W-13L, 3W-1L @ SOCON (@149) 149 - #65 Justin Rivera - JR, 0W-0L, (11W-1L during RS @ 149/2021-22) 157 - #147 Hagen Heistand - FR, 12W-7L, Redshirt 165 - #54(157) Troy Nation - SR, 14W-7L, 3W-1L @ SOCON 174 - #31 Austin Murphy - SR, 0W-0L, (2W-1L @ SOCON 2021-22, R12 2020-21) 184 - #23 Caleb Hopkins - SR, 19W-10L, 0W-2L @ NCAA 197 - #16 Levi Hopkins - SR, 25W-10L, 1W-2L @ NCAA 285 - #13 Taye Ghadiali - SR, 27W-5L, 1W-2L @ NCAA #24 Army WT - Rank Name - Class, 22/23 Record, Result(Notes) 125 - #28 Ethan Berginc - SO, 27W-8L, 0W-2L @ NCAA 133 - #58 Ryan Franco - SO, 22W-11L, N/A (1W-3L in duals) 141 - #62 Richard Treanor - JR, 14W-15L, 1W-2L @ EIWA 149 - #28 Trae McDaniel - SO, 32W-11L, 4W-2L @ EIWA 157 - #36 Nathan Lukez - SR, 20W-14L, 0W-2L @ NCAAs 165 - #42 Dalton Harkins - JR, 18W-14L, 3W-3L @ EIWA 174 - #15 Ben Pasiuk - SR, 23W-7L, 1W-2L @ NCAA 184 - #94 Cole Karpinski - SO, 5W-7L, N/A (No dual starts) 197 - #103(184) Daniel Lawrence - SR, 12W-13L, 2W-3L @ EIWA 285 - #70 Austin Kohlofer - SO, 10W-8L, 2L-3L @ EIWA https://www.wrestlestat.com/compare/perma/663/campbell-vs-army-west-point I think this is favoring Army a bit unfairly in a few weights. I do think Zaccone at 133 and Rivera at 141 should be favored, despite the Wrestlestat algorythm favoring the other gent. On the other end of the spectrum I don't see Murphy beating Pasiuk at 174. I do think the Alaskan brothers Caleb and Levi Hopkins can push for bonus and that might be the separation that is needed for this. Add in the Ghadiali is one of my sleepers for AA at 285 and that he might push for bonus (deckfall anyone?) and I do think Campbell ends up taking this one. I will say one of the Hopkins gets the bonus, as does Pasiak. That puts it at 16-13 heading into the HWT match and Ghadiali gets the fall. Prediction: Campbell over Army 19-164 points

Beer required grain, and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor the aluminum can were invented yet, so while the early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer and vice versa. These two inventions were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups: 1. Liberals 2. Conservatives Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to Bar-B-Que at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative Movement. Other men who were less skilled at hunting (called “vegetarians”, an early word meaning “bad hunters”) learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly Bar-B-Que's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hairdressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal Movement. Some of these liberal men evolved into women. Others became known as girlie-men. Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and the beer that the conservatives provided. Over the years, conservatives came to be symbolized as the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. The liberals came to be symbolized by the jackass they are, for obvious reasons. Modern liberals like 'lite' beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: many liberal women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most college professors, social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, film makers in Hollywood, group therapists, and community organizers are liberals. Liberals meddled in our national pastime and invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher work extra hard as to go to bat. Conservatives drink real beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are members of the military, big game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, engineers, corporate executives, athletes, airline pilots, and generally anyone who works productively at whatever they set out to do. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who actually want to work for a living. Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America; they crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a big business of trying to get more for nothing. Herewith ends today's lesson in world history.4 points

You have also been told how stupid many of your takes are, but you do not seem to quote that. Rationalizing apartheid by implying if it wasn't for us white folks your lives would be worse than under apartheid, is the height of stupid.3 points

That is a good point. To add to it, in many cases what they are told is going on in the world and what is actually going on in the world are two completely different things. Here we at least have the option of which bullshit stories we want to believe. There, in many many cases (especially in areas where the best combat athletes come from) they get one story and one story only.3 points

Don't know about Sidakov personally, but I have great empathy for athletes who may be told to support Putin or else be thrown off of a hotel balcony. It's why, unfortunately, the best decision for now is just to ban Russians from the Olympics and any competition where they are expressly representing their country.3 points

Not convinced either way. Most of the arguments I have seen for GR popularity use the participation level in WC as all the evidence needed. Part of my gut feel is obviously biased, being from the US. However, in addition, it was clear from the Iranian fans on the boards is that FR is way more popular and I also remember when Karelin was a star getting some press coverage in the US, the articles seemed to always mention how GR was, like the US, far less popular in Russia2 points

I don't think Jordan has ever said that Plasi. He has said he was not aware of it. I gave a link that details the accusations against Jordan made by team members and also votes of support for what Jordan has said by other team members. It appears that not even the team is able to come together on this. If they can't, it seems ludicrous to base an opinion on Jordan that is based on this controversy. Again, like someone on this board said, not convicted nor prosecuted so therefore all is right with the world. If it works for some, it works for all. mspart2 points

The 118 lb. weight was eliminated in the 1998-1999 season when they added the 7 lbs. to all of the weights due to the deaths of some wrestlers that year from weight cutting. I was 118 way back in the 70s and I weigh less now than my natural walking around weight was then (138 lbs.)1 point

I have read that Coach Bobby Douglas traces his roots to what is now South Sudan, which has an impressive wrestling tradition. Here's a very brief (1 minute long) video of how South Sudan strives for peace among otherwise warring tribes by periodically hosting wrestling competitions between them. Such showdowns are well attended and of considerable community interest.1 point

There are lighter guys out there that would/could go 118. Most of them couldn't go 118 for more than 2 seasons, but a lot of teams need kids at 125 and 133 too. It falls on the coaches to get out there and find them.1 point

The All-330 projections are back for the 2023-24 preseason. The All-330 is a series of educated guesses on who will be the 330 wrestlers who make the trip to Kansas City, Missouri to compete at the 2024 NCAA Championships. So, how are these different than the national rankings, which go down to #33? There's a little bit of guesswork, projection, and opinion that goes into these, which is generally frowned upon with rankings. In some cases, we think a particular wrestler is poised for a big year (or not-so-big). Another factor for these is conference allocations. Right now we can just speculate allocations for each conference and weight, but you can get an idea of how many each league will get based on rankings. For instance, in a Big Ten weight class with 9 of the top-16 wrestlers in the country (157), you can also assume that the conference probably steals an at-large berth as a lower-ranked wrestler probably only needs one win to lock up a national qualifying bid. Wrestlers are listed by conference, in alphabetical order, based on school name, so they are not conference rankings. The good news is that if someone is not listed or in the "just missed" category, they have the entire regular season action to go, along with a conference tournament. There's still plenty of time left to change a narrative or impress the masses. 125 lbs This weight is sort of straightforward in some respects. The only significant difference between the All-330 and the rankings is true freshman Vinny Kilkeary for Ohio State. It isn’t set in stone that he’s starting, but of an intuition. 125 is the deepest weight class in the nation in terms of potential national qualifiers. In addition to the “Just Missed” list, there are maybe ten others that received serious consideration. This weight typically has young wrestlers who emerge early in their careers, so keep an eye out for Mendez, Moore, Jett Strickenberger, Sheldon Seymour, and Kyle Montaperto. One true freshman we aren’t waiting around on is Marc-Anthony McGowan, who looks to fill the shoes of 2023 NCAA champion Patrick Glory at Princeton. 133 lbs This weight was the best for the SoCon in 2022-23 and it should be again this season. It’s the only weight where we’ve projected three national qualifiers for the conference. With the bottom third of this weight being less stable than others, you may even see more from the SoCon. A theme in the next three weights is the options for Lehigh. We’re going with super freshman Ryan Crookham at 133, which bumps the two incumbents up, but we shall see! Also, be aware of a possible weight shift (in the opposite direction) for Indiana at 133. 141 lbs We’re banking on the ACC freshmen jumping in and making its 141 lb bracket even tougher than last season. Jack Gioffre had solid results while redshirting and Mac Church is a true freshman. He and fellow true freshman Hunter Mason are in the mix for the Hokies, while returner Tom Crook is still an option. However it shakes out, probably a good idea to pencil a Tech wrestler in at 141. We’re banking on a change of scenery and a less stringent schedule helping Jordan Decatur to get to the NCAA tournament for the first time at Kent State. Should our leap of faith with the ACC and Kent State not work out, there’s a pair of Big Ten wrestlers who could step in and qualify. 149 lbs This was the best weight in the MAC last year and most of those national qualifiers are back, giving them five qualifiers, which would be the best weight in the league. Additionally, there are three others from the MAC in the “Just Missed” category, so there’s plenty of talent there. Looking at the EIWA, Penn is expected to make a few changes from our rankings, which would bump Jude Swisher to 149 lbs. Little Rock is very high on their young talent and we have tabbed Kyle Dutton as one of those redshirt freshmen that could have a breakout campaign. 157 lbs The rankings do not include true freshmen until they actually take the mat so top recruit Meyer Shapiro wasn’t listed. He’s here at 157 lbs and we expect a huge year from him. Also in the EIWA, Lucas Revano is expected to drop down from 165 lbs. This happens to be the only weight class in the Big Ten where we’ve projected the league to send 11 wrestlers. That’s a lot, but at the same time, nine of them are ranked in the top-16, so that doesn’t seem like a far-fetched total. 165 lbs There isn’t a whole lot that stands out as unusual at this weight. NC State’s Derek Fields didn’t make the cut for preseason rankings, but NC State has a track record of coaching guys up, so it could happen here. The “Just Missed” list has three EIWA wrestlers, two of whom have qualified for nationals in the past, so there could be some shakes up on the East Coast. 174 lbs A handful of new faces bumped older, more established wrestlers out at 174 lbs. We’ve included true freshmen Brayden Thompson and Gabe Arnold. Both were highly-ranked wrestlers from the Class of 2023 who are capable of an immediate impact. From a redshirt freshman standpoint, the Big 12’s MJ Gaitan and Brody Conley are both ranked and showed promise last season. A veteran who wasn’t in the rankings, Travis Wittlake, did not announce his transfer to Oregon State at the time they were published. 184 lbs 184, like 125 lbs, is a weight with an inordinate amount of possible qualifiers considered. There are some legit names that didn’t even make the cut for “Just Missed.” Part of that is because of the faith we have in a trio of redshirt freshmen. James Rowley and Caden Rogers were not a part of the preseason rankings, but have a good pedigree, and should make an impact for their respective teams. Two-time U20 world medalist Bennett Berge, as well. 197 lbs This weight is pretty in-line with the rankings. One small addition was in the EIWA with Jack Wehmeyer. He changed weight mid-year and nearly made the tournament last season as a freshman. Of course, there could be a large elephant in the Iowa wrestling room at 197 lbs. Could 2021 NCAA champion AJ Ferrari join his brother, Anthony, and eventually, Angelo, in Iowa City? 285 lbs There’s definitely some good stuff at heavyweight. Nothing is set in stone regarding Iowa’s two-sport star Ben Kueter. If he does see the mat in 2023-24, even in a limited role, he’s a talented enough athlete and wrestler to qualify for nationals. Of course, we’re always wondering whether or not Gable Steveson will come back to the Gophers. For now, we have Garrett Joles in his place. One of their former teammates, Keaton Kluever, is tabbed to qualify though he wasn’t in the preseason rankings. Sticking with the Big Ten, Indiana has a pair of capable wrestlers at heavyweight. They could let Jacob Bullock redshirt while Nick Willham gets the call. This has the potential to be a good weight class for the MAC. Right now, we have two wrestlers included, but three others in the “Just Missed” category.1 point

Nothing warped about my perspective. Straight and true. Just different from yours. Punishing the whole for the transgressions of one or few is collective punishment and generally considered immoral. Punishing individuals who were born into a situation and have no ability to affect it by running or not running a 1500 meter race is also generally considered immoral. Nothing warped about that perspective. Yours may be different but, if so, please be consistent and insist that China be banned from all international forums (sporting and otherwise) and refuse to use anything made there in your daily life. Live your perspective.1 point

Ask yourself what have Cael, Tom & B10 done lately to expand/support wrestling? Whe Stanford dropped John Smith went out of his way to put them on the schedule and encourage wrestlers to stay at Stanford. What did Brands do, spent 6 figures to steal their best wrestler. Sanderson, nothing i know of. They both killed the Ntl Duals or maybe that was Carl's plan. When B10 announcers spend all their time downgrading other conferences and bragging about themselves how does that grow the sport? Look at the money Michigan, Oh St etc spent to grab wrestler away from other programs. You want to grow D1 wrestling, get coaches onbord. With all the NIL $s maybe we need a better way to share like NFL. Although I prefer the Euro football league & relegate/promote model. My plan anyone can qualify for a national individual tournament (no team score) but leagues would be dual meet for promotion & relegate. If I were running it I'd start PSU in the national league so it'd take a couple years to promote to Premier, but thats just me. Its a perfect beautiful plan & Wkn has all my data for making big tables & colorful charts.1 point

Speaking of expendable sports, the Winter Olympics is comprised--almost entirely--of expendable sports. Besides figure skating, skiing (I guess) and hockey, everything else is trash. Curling? Biathlon? Nordic Combined? Sledding? Freestyle Skiing? Snowboarding? Snow Angels? (not a real Olympic sport). All trash. Did you know that there are only 31 sites in the entire United States where you can practice ski jumping? How many times have you gotten into an argument with somebody and decided to settle it by Ski Jumping? On the other hand, there are over 10,000 high schools in America with a wrestling team. There are another 400 college teams. The IOC needs to add a real Winter sport to their program: Wrestling. And so the revolution begins:1 point

The funny thing is I often do that for a different reason. I would call them spurious digits. Since they are not measurements, but integer counts used to calculate percentages I think I am OK on significance, but not so much on spuriousness. I occasionally dig up old stuff I did, like this, where, for some reason, I did not over-ride the default formatting in Tableau (BI software I often use instead of a spreadsheet). As the woman who edits the stuff I write for work can attest, I sometimes (often?) miss inconsistencies in formatting and phrasing in my own work. Feel no conflict. We can all use good editors. And since I cannot be responsible for disturbing Mr. Valentine's eternity, I have reformatted. RIP, good man.1 point

So will Russian athletes be able to compete under another flag like they did in the recent WCs? If so, they still have the opportunity to compete, just that Russia will not be in the story. mspart1 point

Punishing individual athletes does not make a nation a pariah. Nor does competing with those athletes imply any approval of his/her home country's internal or international actions. It is a huge price for an individual to pay when your options are to rescind your citizenship and place of birth or not compete.1 point
