  1. Old Dominion had 8 wrestlers of color in their starting lineup when the AD dropped the sport. One of which is now at ASU. Some people can get uptight talking about diversity and always "making race a topic," but when college presidents want to beat the drum about first generation college students and their acceptance of all types, then they cut the most racially diverse team on a campus, you can best bet they don't want to hear about that. ODU's president has yet to reply to me about his predecessor allowing that to happen. Wrestling is for everyone. All shapes, all sizes, all colors. We really do embrace that in a lot of ways. There's still some stereotypes and tropes that exist in the sport that get repeated too often, mainly out of laziness. There are still groups looking to do things no one who looks like them have ever done, or most recently, like Tamyra Mensah-Stock, became the first to do. Our differences make us unique. Our differences also bond us. No matter how good or bad we were, we are wrestlers, right?

  3. @flyingcement and yours truly have teamed up to bore you to tears knock your socks off with our combined wrestling wrestling data sets. Warning: one of us claims to defy the laws of physics and the other can't tell his ass from his elbow, so take it for what it is worth. Using the airborne concrete data listing the hometown state of every D1 wrestler, first we present where all the wrestlers are coming from. The first graph shows the count of wrestlers by hometown state. We already knew about Pennsylvania high school wrestling and why recruiting the NE is so important. But the number of wrestlers coming out of California cannot be ignored. However, this is just half of the story. If I have to fly all the way to California I will need to sift through a lot of people to find the wrestlers. Will it be worth my time? OK, let's see what things look like when we normalize for population. I guess I need to find a connecting flight to California, preferably one with a stop over in Iowa. And every team needs to have a recruiter stationed in Alaska. More to come. I will fold the expected points data in with the location data to see where the points are coming from at NCAAs. Any other ideas? I am open to persuasion.

  8. And people are right! So many of their top wrestlers, unlike in years past, are wrestling close matches constantly, and yet they (almost) always win them, and none of their top guys ever seem to lose. Very frustrating as a fan of an opposing team, but impressive nonetheless. We've all seen their stats in the NCAA semis and such. I'm not even sure what the point of this thread is, I was just watching some videos during my lunch break and thinking about how, normally, if guy's wrestle always close matches, we think of it as living dangerously, especially at the NCAA tournament, but none of us think that about the Penn State guys in that way BECAUSE THEY NEVER LOSE THOSE MATCHES. Even when they do lose a close match, like Brooks last year to Amine or this year to Coleman, we always expect them to win the next time they meet, and will always win at NCAAs. Sigh.

  11. I know Pennsylvania and Iowa like to debate which state is the Mecca of wrestling. Well, @flyingcement and I are here to tell you that they are a pair of pretenders. If you want to score points we have some time tested advice for you. Go West, young man, Go West. Get ye to the north of the Dakotas. Combining flyingcement's geographic data (I cannot imagine how much work that was) with Intermat's latest rankings and my expected points per seed tells us how many points per million residents each state is expected to contribute to their team's totals. So, @VakAttack if you really want to put an end to Penn State's despotic rule you need to get the Brands brothers (Brands of Brothers?) to recruit a ND wrestler at every weight.

  28. This is your yukiest thread yet. It's hard for me to read what the OP wrote and not boil it down to "oh wow, the wrestlers on PSU are black AND good at wrestling! Mind blown!!!" I strongly doubt Cael and company Look at a wrestler's ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, etc when making recruiting decisions. I assume they take character into consideration but I doubt they look at skin color when making that evaluation. The PSU team is full of really great wrestlers who, as far as I can tell, are great men in general (except for Carter). They have reached the pinnacle of the sport, doubtlessly overcoming countless set backs and challenges. That's what they should be celebrated for. As long as they continue to work hard, wrestle hard, do their schoolwork, and avoid getting into trouble, why even factor in diversity? Someone will inevitably take this to mean that I'm against diversity or some crackpot. To that, all I have to say is: bold of you to assume my gender or ethnicity

  30. Australia- DEFINITELY not "ZERO evidence, logic, data and/or facts that support banning any gun will stop the shootings from happening." Of course as bump stocks are still legal in this country...meaning, you CAN effectively get the same gun the US Military uses is pretty telling. They're not gonna do anything. It took a mass shooting in which nearly 500 people were shot and ~60 were killed before we even tried to ban them...but of course you had the Gun Lobby funding an appeal claiming that was unconstitutional...and they were successful. But here's your evidence that...it absolutely does work. And yet, I don't think anyone's suggesting going THIS far. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/what-can-australias-reaction-to-a-mass-shooting-teach-us-about-guns-and-gun-control/ -Registration, just like drivers Ed, Gun Education. Hunter's safety, but you could simply add some self defense components. -No extended magazines. You can go hunting for deer with 10 rounds(or you really shouldn't be hunting). -No private sales as I previously suggested. -Ballistics tests on all guns. Do you think people who sell guns may be a BIT more selective about who they sell guns to. I'm not advocating for an Australian like ban, but you can't say there's your long winded way of saying there's no evidence that banning guns will lead to a reduction in mass shooting events. I own 36 guns. I've accumulated them from Grandparents, my Father...I even got my CC. The class was laughable. I also learned how to shoot when I was young. But the suggestion that NOBODY knows what an assault weapon is or that if a gun can kill someone, then it throws the whole, "a gun ban will work," argument out of the window...just like the silly list of guns that have been used in War, literally going back to the gun Custer used. -Oh, and hollow point are not really necessary in handguns. I carry it with me when I go up to my Cabin because there are wolves and Cougars and things like that...but mainly because they were passed down when my Grandpa died. People have fetishized guns and it's strange. None of these things will ever happen because of my prior statement, and because of the NRA which has gotten so extreme and out of control, Bush Sr wrote a letter condemning them in a public way of cancelling his membership.

  31. You can though. You LITERALLY can and we were literally given the power to do EXACTLY that. Scotus voted 5-4...so if the GOP hadn't kinda stolen SCOTUS, it could have easily gone the other way and LITERALLY interpreted the 2nd. "In order to maintain a WELL REGULATED MILITIA,".... But yes, you ABSOLUTELY can pick and choose. See how black people are no longer slaves and no longer 3/5th of a human being? That's because we pick and choose. See how we all get to vote for President instead of 68 people like in the first couple elections? That's because we get to pick and choose. We've got to pick and choose. That was kinda the ENTIRE point of the Constitution. Oh, and we're not the "most free" Country. Those pesky "socialist" Countries in Scandinavia are the most free...plus Canada, England, among others. We're the 23rd most free; https://www.cato.org/human-freedom-index/2022 If you didn't have private prisons and Judges who get kickbacks for sending kids to prison, we may be higher, but I think having the most people in prison in the world lowers our rankings in the "most free country" category.

  32. When they kiiled 20 kids and absolutely nothing changed...that's when I knew this was a lost issue. I figured...MAYBE after Vegas I was wrong, but...same end result effectively. Special interests going to bat for "bump stocks," using proxies to do it. It's almost funny. What's also funny is how "crime is up," because a guy had a story about someone laying under his truck to steal gas, but you point to these mass shootings(there have been a string of about 6 big ones in a ~3-4 day period) and that's statistically irrelevant if you add up ALL the days kids go to school and then you add all the schools... Jesus Christ...people think it's normal and healthy to have kids doing active shooter drills. Like that in and of itself won't have an impact on kids. Reading through this thread is just depressing and it explains how Joe Biden and the Ds have won the Oval and then basically won in the Mid Terms. Lying means NOTHING anymore. If it did...George Santos would NOT be a member of Congress(nor would Trump be worshiped with a literal Gold Statue people rub at Cpac, but that's another issue). MTG, Boebert, Jordan... So if lying to get elected to congress means nothing, why are people gonna care about lying or giving..."alternative facts," on message boards?

  38. Exactly. Had the homicide rate rapidly plummeted a few months before midterms, not a one of the 30 percenters would have applauded it, but, rather, lamented it. I once asked a question to a group of 30 percenters a few years back during an election season that told me all that I needed to know. I clarified their views at that time about their illusion that crime is up, libruls support welfare, undocumenteds are flooding across, etc, etc., to which they all verified. I then followed it up by asking if all of these imagined "problems" suddenly reversed and Democrats and libberols were in power when the reversal occurred, would you be happy with that outcome. Sheepishly, they all answered "no," as it would mean that they would likely lose the upcoming election. Conclusion to be drawn? The 30 percenters aren't interested in seeing "problems" go away, but, rather, winning elections and everyone be damned. And people wonder why I don't vote, nor aprticipate in this charade that we call a "political system?"

  39. As I posted in my initial reply to you. Yes, the homicide rate IS temporarily up, but CRIME, overall, is down, as it has been for decades (homicide rate was down for decades too). The problem is is that Tattletale "News" and the criminals on AM radyo only drum beated crime in general, over and over again, as you continued to parrot, as you were told to do, but never specified that ONLY the homicide rate is up. Furthermore, not all cities saw increases in their homicide rates, many of which were deliberately incorrectly conveyed to the 30 percenters. I simply clarified that crime is NOT up, but, yes, the homicide rate is temporarily up.
