Hopefully he's okay.  If he's not, it's a shame for him, but Penn State would still be a favorite by more than fifty points for the national tournament

Not if iowa gets all the suspended athletes back like the rumor is

If Nagao out, Iowa is a tossup at 125 and lean Iowa at 133 and 141. Where else they gonna win?  165 if Messenbrink don’t go?

That won't make enough of a difference unfortunately.  They'd need to combine with another top five contender team to even have a chance.  Iowa plus Michigan rosters combined still loses though to Penn State I reckon.

Iowa can win if:

They get Ferrari at 197, Steveson, and all the suspended wrestlers back.

Nagao and one other expected guy from 141-285 are out of the PSU lineup

I guess they technically could win - its possible.  It's just not very plausible, even in the extremely unlikely scenario that they land Steveson.  They would  a combination of need Franek to upset Haines, Caliendo to upset Mesenbrink, and Ferrari to upset Brooks.  Sure it could happen, but it would have to be as a result of some sort of miracle

125: Ayala over Howard

133: Teske over Braeden Davis

141: Woods and Bartlett - toss up

149: Van Ness over Voinovich

157: Haines over Franek

165: Mesenbrink over Caliendo

174: Starocci over Kennedy

184: Truax over Brands

197: Brooks over Ferrari, Assad, or Franklin

285: Kerkvliet over Ferrari or Cassioppi - Steveson would be favored though.

Agree, that’s why I said they’d also need one other PSU guy out of the lineup.  I said 141-285 but if we’re talking dual and pretending Iowa has Steveson it’d need to be 149-197.  And even that would be 5-5 at best and PSU likely wins the bonus battle.

Why does anyone think a guy who flaked out on the World Championships will suddenly want to/be allowed to wrestle in college?

Easy there WKN... pretty sure that "flaked out" isn't appropriate here.

Because there was a better chance he was going to lose at Worlds

I don't know what the reason is, but I would have that one pretty far down my list.

In no particular order my list would include injury, his boss changed his mind, he is juicing for pretend wrestling, and he changed his mind.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

My guess is it’s part of the reason for “his boss changing his mind.”  His boss might have changed his mind because he didn’t want Gable to lose.

By all accounts Ferrari cannot make 197 also.

So what about the accounts listing him at 197?

"By all accounts" is simply not true at this point

He didn’t flake out but he’s also not wrestling in college ever again, word is the WWE was going to begrudgingly let him wrestle in worlds and the Olympics then gable pushed and tried to get another year of college too and WWE was like hell no you need to be training with us too and then they said screw and didn’t let him wrestle at all

Right on track with the yearly pre-season thread of Iowa can win if....
