David Taylor said he will only compete in two tournaments the rest of his career: world champs and the Spanish Grand Prix, and we're all out of paella5 points

I came here to say this. Lockett is probably the rightful fourth guy in the mix rather than Bo.5 points

Not comparing him to Mean Dean at all- Was referencing how I could see him being very defensive and not scoring ton of points. I'm, always supporting fellow Ohio natives. 2 career losses to Deluca and Davino- blue chippers.4 points

I have to disagree, he seemed very reluctant to scramble and didn't fight the first counter TD much that Jax got in the opening match. Plus this is hard for me to explain as I'm not a technique expert, but look at his left arm the entire time in neutral - he barely wants to use it or engage with it. He only does when Jax forced him to lock up - it's just always bent at his side. I feel like everything was precipitated from his right arm and right side. Sure he was still quick and maybe I'm seeing what I want to see, but it was pretty clear to me that Vito was avoiding certain positions and scrambles the entire time. He was not letting the fur fly as he normally does, I don't think he just hard gassed out.3 points

He's going to look great after training with Yonger and Herrera during his redshirt year.3 points

Let that (above bold) sink in for a second...it wasn't too long ago when we were all fawning over Blaze, remember, like when he beat Forrest at Olympic trials and when he beat Bassett at World trials? Oh yeah, and he's the only one mentioned so far that actually owns an age level world gold medal. Dean Heil could only be so lucky!!! This thread feels a bit like a "what have you done for me lately" kinda thing.3 points

No kidding about 133. Until the NIL Go rules are clear (there will inevitably be more litigation), I spend the money on coaches and facilities. Facilities are there to stay and coaches can be tied down with contracts. But if pay-to-play returns (and I think it will) then I drop facilities from the equation and give that chunk to athletes.2 points
-
I'm paying the coach. History has proven this is the correct bet. Kids still want to wrestle for the highest profile name. Also have to factor in the ever changing rules on NIL. Get the right coach and the rest will fall into place.2 points

I am going to have to watch the matches again now! I know that he often does that palm up elbow to his belly button thing in his stance, but he does usually hit drags to the left side, and I cannot recall off memory if he did that.2 points

We obviously learned nothing from the golden age with JB/Dake/Taylor/Cox/Snyder where they were constantly negatively compared to each other and nitpicked apart rather than appreciated. I don't care who has the best career because we have depth with an emerging new generation. Let's just enjoy having nice things for once.2 points

I think Marcus is absolutely incredible and I cant say with 100% certainty that had Marcus beaten Seth that he would not currently be on the team. What I will say is Bill Zaddick needs to find a way to get at least two of these guys at different weights!2 points

I did not think Vito outside of cardio looked vastly different from his best early. He was still super-fast. I think it is important to remember a less than 100% vito was still clearly the second-best guy in the world last year and Ono is not competing so I think Jax has a very real shot at winning a world title. Suda is very good from Japan but he beat Mongush whos best weight is 57kg 8-7 and has one or two other criteria wins this year. Uguev and Haryutunan are probably the other two big threats and Kyrgyzstan and India will be good.2 points

Rocklin Zinkin has eye test wise looked incredible to me but lower competition so far, the kid he wrestled round 2 was pretty tough. Dallas Russell has been a big talent since he was little, but the Cosby win is probably his breakout for high school. Willie white from Florida lost to Miller but it was 11-5 which honestly is probably going to go down as the best loss of the tournament if I were to guess.2 points

Dudes, can we stop the "I know you are but what am I?" and "I'm rubber, you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you." taunts on this thread. We have enough of that crap in other areas. Can we keep the Climate Hoax thread about important things like cow farts? The history of failed prognostications and extrapolations. Changed river shapes, coastal outlines, and other climactic convulsions which happened before SUVs existed, The climate model which applied from all data through 1950 and its correlation to the actual measurements that occurred in the last 75 years, etc. Can the board moderator create a food fight room where our colleagues can take their "you're a jerk/ no I'm not but you certainly are" fights?2 points

The Iranian wrestling commentators always say that you have to give due respect to whoever represents the USA as they will be good regardless and I think it applies to Hendrickson too. He may be even number 2 or 1 etc internationally but he is untested at that level and hopefully his future results will speak for his abilities and put my questioning things to rest in an emphatic way. I’m sure time will tell.2 points

Because at the end of the day I think we can agree we all want to see two guys at their absolute best compete for a spot and that's clearly not what we got today.2 points

309 wrestlers entered the transfer portal (which represents about 10-11% of all D1 wrestlers) this off-season. 177 wrestlers that entered the transfer portal and changed teams 79 wrestlers that had entered the transfer portal, haven't yet found a new home, and are still on their old roster 40 wrestlers that had entered the transfer portal, and are no longer on an active roster of any team. 11 wrestlers that entered the transfer portal but decided to remain with their previous team 2 wrestlers that entered the transfer portal, but decided to move on from wrestling2 points

I may wanna verify the 26. Being lazy. I think it’s accurate. My body crapped out my junior year of college. Sport is rough on that body1 point

Because you would have to literally kill a world champ before they would just let someone take their spot due to an injury. Big props to Vito and hoping for a full recovery. The cumulative toll on a world champion's body cannot be overstated or understood by anyone on a message board.1 point

Thousands of high school wrestlers in Fargo this week will compete for stop signs and national championships. One already has his hardware from Fargo and is aiming even higher. In between rounds of men’s freestyle competition at the 16U and Junior National Championships was the delayed Final X wrestle-off between world champion Vito Arujau and rising high school senior Jax Forrest. Arujau’s status as a returning world medalist allowed him to delay their Final X series from June 14th to July 14th from Fargo, North Dakota. Forrest swept the two matches 4-3 in the first and 7-2 in the second. Back in 2022, Forrest was a U17 World silver medalist and earlier this year he won the Senior Pan-American Championships. With Forrest on the squad, the 2025 Senior World Team will feature seven first-time world team members. Forrest and PJ Duke will wrestle at the World Championships before ever stepping onto a collegiate mat. Match one saw Arujau strike first with a takedown off of a picture-esque sweep single. With under a minute remaining in the opening stanza, Arujau looked poised to add onto his lead; however, Forrest scrambled out of a Arujau attack and into a takedown of his own. Early in the second period, action took the pair over to the edge of the mat. Arujau nearly had a second takedown but settled for a step-out point to lead, 3-2. Despite some quality action, 3-2 is how the score would remain until the final seconds of the bout. With under :30 seconds remaining, fresh off of a reshot, Arujau got in on a low leg attack. Forrest slipped free of the attack and put pressure on Arujau near the edge. Once Arujau shifted his weight to stay in bounds, Forrest spun around and scored the winning takedown with :05 seconds left in the bout. He would hold on to win, 4-3. Forrest set the tone in the second match with an early takedown and immediately transitioned into a turn for a quick 4-0 lead. Arujau was able to get a late takedown but was never able to seriously threaten Forrest.1 point

Well done Jax! Whoa, Flo. Camera blocked by coaches doing the oh so surprising -- standing up during flurries on the mat to coach, with no backup plan for another camera or moving that camera. And while hands are being raised an ad pops up and drowns out commentators commentating. Bummer - but Flo gotta Flo I guess.1 point

That’s good advice. But advice you should take on yourself. I’m pretty comfortable calling it out as it happens on both sides…even if it is the “big guy”1 point

I have always been a huge fan of Hendrickson's technique as I think he is one of the best in the US at any weight, but the best technique does not equal results especially at the global level. I am cautiously optimistic for a medal but would not be surprised to see a quick exit just as easily. I recognize he was not as physically matured as today and lacked a career-altering victory at the time, but Hendrickson could not get by Parris in freestyle (nearly teched him only to get wiped off the mat, and Parris was dismantled by an uninterested Steveson who was only training part-time while still in WWE) and could not get past Kerkvliet domestically until a torn ACL at the NCAA tournament just a few months ago. He was also taken to the brink by Hillger at USA team trials which essentially showed the blueprint from someone who, respectfully, who has no place on the USA ladder until basically every quality heavyweight didn't compete this year (Gable, Parris, Gwiz, Kerk, Cassioppi, Schultz & Coon greco only would win, Bradley, Zillmer moved down to 97 to possibly nab a default spot if Snyder didn't compete, etc.)1 point

I never said I know. How would you, or anyone else posting here know? If you (they) have actual information, provide it. If not, they're just making things up to stir the pot. That’s not a discussion - it’s just being petty. As for the age comment - sure, I was off by a year. He’s almost 19, not almost 18. Doesn’t change anything. What’s clear is that some folks are taking Bassett’s decisions way too personally. He’s not obligated to meet our expectations. He’s arguably the most followed high school wrestler ever, with a massive NIL upside, and he’s handling things in a way that suits his goals, not yours. And why would he follow any other path than his own, which is going to make him a millionaire within five years? He’s already making a huge impact on the sport, and that’s only going to grow over the next 6–7 years. Tearing him down because you don’t like his path doesn’t say anything about him - but it says plenty about all the haters, and their toxic energy.1 point

I know there is no chance, but a lineup of Bassett-Kannon Webster-Melvin Miller-Braeden Scoles at Illinois would be nails. Poeta would teach the slick stuff and if AOC sticks around he has one of, if not the, best front-head series in the country for short offense/defense wins matches. Those four could seriously push each other to a murderers' row of national champs.1 point
