If prostitution wasn't joined at the hip with human trafficking and women being used against their will, then you'd have some really great points here about the moral differences in paying for it directly or not paying for it directly.9 points

Thoughts: --It's just so stupid that this is even illegal. It happens legally thousands of times a day in the porn world and the OnlyFans world (and in parts of Nevada and Maine), and thousands more a day in the "arrangements"/"sugar daddy" world, and it's barely a rounding error a way from what happens millions of times a day, e.g. men buying dinner and sort of getting something in return, and women seducing wealthier men for access to his wallet. Much of human history is built on men who provide best being the ones who get ass. Where, as here, there's no indicia the person lacked the capacity to consent, it is a simple business transaction, morally indistinguishable from paying someone to mow your lawn. So I'm sorry, but I just can't bring it upon myself to be even remotely troubled by this as I don't see it being in any way wrong. It's a crime, but right up there in seriousness with jaywalking and loitering. The people acting all butthurt about this are ridiculous. --I'd always happy to make an exception for the religious preachy types when they're abject hypocrites, but does it here? Not that I can see. I don't doubt that he's a devout Christian, and trying to live a Christian life, doesn't mean he's criticizing the lifestyles of others who aren't devout Christians and saying we're all going to hell, nor is he out there trying to jack up the penalties for prostitution or preaching against it. I'm only bothered when the religious right tries to shove morals down my throat that they themselves won't adhere to. Maybe he violated his own professed beliefs, but that's between him and himself. I just have no reason to care. --He's probably in hot water with his wife, but truthfully, we don't even know that. For all we know, she signed off on it or agreed to look the other way, as maybe there's things she can't or won't do. Or maybe not -- maybe she's furious and ready to rip his nuts off, but once again, that's solely between them. I'm not willing to make any judgments about his marriage any more than I will about his morality. --I'm sure his PR people will help him write up some big public apology, talking about how he let down his wife and kids and his God, how he'll try to do better and live his life according to God's plan, blah blah blah, but none of that changes the above. That's understandable, as the sponsors will expect it. But it won't change what I said above. Bottom line: For his own mental health and personal happiness, I hope he's able to conform his conduct to his beliefs and his commitments to his wife, but it makes zero difference to me if that entails changing his conduct or changing his beliefs/commitments.9 points

Guys who get hookers are more relatable to the non religious crowd. Lol. That’s laughable. Most humans don’t get hookers. Nothing to do with religion.5 points

Because it is illegal and there is absolutely a chance that if this wasn't a sting, that Kyle Snyder would have been soliciting prostitution from someone that was trafficked into the industry. He is participating in what is currently a very toxic exchange that often involves a party that is only "willing" due to fear of the repercussions if they don't. I get what you're saying. If two consenting adults want to have sex with a monetary exchange, that should be legal. However, soliciting a black market service that relies heavily on human trafficking to provide sex workers? Yes, I absolutely have a problem with that. He shouldn't be excused because there should be a better system in place. He participated in what is currently a very dark and sad industry. And that's only what I think of him and the crime.. the fact that he would do this while having a wife and two kids at home is where it becomes a real scumbag act.4 points

Yep he is so incompetent that he fielded pros to negotiate (called delegation) while he took care of the other affairs of state. Funny how you think a President controls every aspect of everything that goes on in an administration. He usually gives his conditions and delegates the work out. You think you are dissing but actually paying a backhanded compliment to Trump and his leadership qualities. mspart4 points

Can you imagine the ads that Snyder would get if he was on this message board?!?!4 points

Probably his wife. His kids. His family. His friends. USA Wrestling. Nittany Lion Wrestling Club. Penn State. Ohio State. Real American Freestyle. Rudis. Rogue. Jesus. Fans concerned about Final X.4 points

Is it still cheating if you hire a prostitute but they don’t actually provide the service?4 points

There's a lot of data on my "very small percentage" comment. One of the more reputable studies was run by the NIH. For prostitutes who were 18 or older, 4.6% reported being "coerced, threatened, pressured, misled, tricked, or physically forced into trading sex." The number goes up to 21% for prostitutes under 18. Study here: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7305278/. There's also a number of studies that have found that since Congress passed the wildly regressive FOSTA-SESTA laws, these coerced/underage prostitutes are now working the streets, and aren't advertising online (See e.g. NIJ study here: https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/unconventional-wisdom-research-shakes-assumptions-about-sex-trafficking-clues). The "good news", I guess, is that the online ads have cleaned up, but the bad news is that underage sex traffickers are now much harder to catch, and victims harder to save. As for "how it's possible to minimize trafficking," see my other posts. First you need to understand what's included in "trafficking" before you have this conversation. It isn't just "people being taken against their will," which is a real problem, but rare (see above). Rather, "trafficking" is often used to include escorts traveling for work in conjunction with others -- which of course is virtually *all* escorts. It's a term used to demonize, when it's actually just describing virtually the entire sex industry, in which the vast majority are participating voluntarily. Although there's a lot of data on this, there's also a lot of bad data. You need to look at actual reputable peer-reviewed journals, not advocacy groups or people trying to sell stuff. For example, your website above is published by a company that sells software to police departments looking to crack down on prostitution (see https://deliverfund.org/about/). Take a wild guess what financial incentive is? If you really care about the subject, I suggest you do some homework about how best to destigmatize the women who *want* to be in that industry, and how best to identify and help those who are underage or otherwise *not* there voluntarily. Once you do that, you'll understand where my posts are coming from.3 points

Obviously some folks can't handle the tough reality of today's wrestling: ankle picks are out, dragnets are where it's at if you want to take a guy down3 points

I'm pretty certain it's because the whole jesus thing is shoved down everyone's throats nonstop. How was your ankle pick? Thanks to god. How do you defend an underhook? Mine's powered by the lord. 100% jesus. Etc Etc Etc. If you're going to talk that much talk then you better walk the walk. Because not all of us believe what you believe, so don't be a hypocrite in a terribly public way.3 points

I feel compassion for his family, sure. His wife and kids are going to have to deal with this for...maybe forever. But it's not like he's a victim here. At all.3 points

Don't forget also redshirting a 2x NCAA finalist, who doesn't have a redshirt available, just to put a lesser guy in the lineup so he can say add another transfer. That's my favorite bit. Trolling on a topic I don't think anyone cares about it....3 points

there's enough to deal with on this topic, please don't bring your homophobia into it3 points

That's the bigger problem here. If people are truly willing participants, sure, consenting adults and all that. But...I'm guessing few if any people are doing a lot of research into the organization providing the services they seek out. Not a whole lot of "independent contractors" in that realm. Hope he's able to patch things up with his family. Regardless of what happens with wrestling, his kids need him.3 points

It seems some of their fans are already going the “well Snyder wasn’t really a Penn State guy anyway” route3 points

Let's let God and Jesus decide if the guy's a scumbag. We're all sinners. It's a disgusting act for any man to partake in, regardless of religious affiliation. I don't want to speak for the man, but I'm sure he's ashamed.3 points

Since this involves religious people, I'll assume they're male prostitutes.3 points

Wtf are you talking about? He becomes more relatable because he's hiring a hooker to disrespect his wife and kids? Is this Kyle Snyder posting?2 points

Nah. He brought this on himself with all the 100% jesus crap so now he gets to deal with the fallout when he's on the other end. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.2 points

This sucks. He screwed up. Big time. I’m sure he is in a degree of emotional agony. And there should be punishment (I’m not someone that will be calling the use of prostitutes victimless). That said, I sure hope all the asshats around here and off these boards just give the guy some space to deal with this with his family and learn and grow from it. Seems like a guy who is going to really suffer mentally from the pain he has caused and the embarrassment to friend, family and himself. It is a very severe punishment already. I worry for him - mental state and all. Back off folks.2 points

A lot of it depends on what the court interpretations prior to this case (precedent) allow for. The statute uses very simple language, but it doesn't define what "compelling" means and if it requires a simple attempt to get someone to have sex for hire, or if the alleged victim has to be a real person. An Ohio attorney on their page here: https://www.columbuscriminalattorney.com/sex-offenses/internet-sex-sting-operations/ Says you can be charged for Compelling Prostitution out of these types of stings, but does specify that it all depends on the specific facts of the allegations.2 points
-
Well on the PSU board they are implying this wasn’t his first time doing this. Hopefully not while he was living in Cael’s basement.2 points
-
Hmmm, a quick read of some Ohio statutes is a BIT more concerning. Again, not an expert in Ohio law, but there is a "tiered" system for sex offender registration there and a "Tier 2 " sex offender includes someone convicted of "compelling prostitution." Gonna have to see the formal charges (when law enforcement arrests you, the charges on the police report aren't necessarily the charges you will face once the prosecutors look at the case).2 points

Unless the officer was also posing as a child, this seems unlikely to me. At least in Florida.2 points

The Bible says not to judge hypocritically (Mat 7:1) and not to judge over matters of Christian liberty of personal preference (Romans 14 talks about this). But the Bible does tell believers to let your love abound in all knowledge and judgement (Phil 1:9), he who is spiritual judgeth all things (1Co 2:15), judge not according to appearance but judge righteous judgement (John 7:24). Read 1 Corinthians 5 where the man in the assembly was living immorally and the Apostle Paul told them to kick the man out of the assembly until he repents and changes his ways. And by the way, it worked. The man repented and was restored in 2 Corinthians 2. Most evangelicals take Matt 7:1 and make it a blanket statement against any judgement regardless of what it is but that is taking the verse out of context and twisting it to fit an agenda. Christians are to judge other Christians with righteous judgement with the intent of restoration. Christians are not to judge hypocritically.2 points

I surely hope so. It is hypocrisy when you preach to young athletes the importance of living a life that is honoring to God and then you solicit a prostitute. That is actually the definition of hypocrisy.2 points
-
And before someone breaks the work, "hypocrisy" would be if Snyder said he shouldn't be punished for this but other people should be. Erecting a moral standard that you yourself fail at is not hypocrisy.2 points
-
Snyder is a scumbag and ought to be ashamed of himself. He has been a prominent figure in FCA wrestling for a long time and has preached Christ to young athletes. This is a disgusting act for a Christian man to be partaking in and he ought to be ashamed.2 points

Jeez. This is a super depressing way to start the week. Kyle Snyder is only a few years younger than me and long has been a role model. My heart breaks for his family. Whatever happens, I hope they get the necessary help to try and get some semblance of peace2 points

Yes. He and his family and friends are enriching themselves using their positions in the government by previously unseen amounts, far beyond anything that people have tried to accuse Joe Biden of (and refused to actually try to prove in court) thru things like this jet, the meme coin sell offs (having enriched the Trump familyby some $3 billion since taking office), and market manipulation.2 points
